  1. Sad but true. May 20th of this year, we will lose the ability to play some quite amazing games online. This also includes the only 2 Fire Emblems with competitive multiplayer(FE11 and FE12). This is not Nintendo's fault. Nintendo outsourced server management to GameSpy for the Wii and NDS. GameSpy was recently purchased by a company and they don't seem to care about anything other than mobile gaming, so all of the old GameSpy servers are being shut down. But this doesn't have to be the end. Nintendo consoles have all been emulated, with the exception of the current gen(and we'll get there). If you look for NES games, or SNES games, you'll find that fans have painstakingly preserved these experiences so that they can be enjoyed far into the future. So, why don't we do the same thing with Nintendo WFC But how do you propose we do this? It's not going to be easy. I don't even know if we'll be able to write servers for every game in time. What we need to do is make sure that as much data is collected about each of the multiplayer games that are going offline as possible. There is an effort being lead by an emulator developer named ToadKing to reverse engineer each game and collect as much data as possible to do this. But how can I help? 1. Use the guides on ToadKing's website to capture packets of as many use-cases of online in any game that is going offline and send it to ToadKing. 2. Anyone with network protocol experience would be invaluable in extracting data and figuring out the encodings of data 3. Any information you can find relevant to the multiplayer. Most multiplayer games use Nintendo WFC's servers to find a match, and then from there everything is Peer2Peer. Please spread the word! May 20th is a few months away, but it'll be here before we know it
  2. Nothing wrong with using a different game as a base >_> FE4 certainly has it's charm. snes9x is a good choice of SNES emulator
  3. Will this work on Mono, aka could I run this on OS X or Linux?
  4. Actually, you can download/rip the Double Dash Bonus Disk, load it in dolphin and link dolphin to a copy of VBA-M with Fire Emblem. Works with existing saves on all major operating systems, I did this myself on my digital save because I own the Double Dash Bonus Disc and used to use the items on my actual GBA. In terms of turns, I am quite sure you can shave off a few with statboosters and boots(which are given if I recall correctly) but I think the biggest impact would be on Funds. I wasn't able to find much use of the wind sword until about chapter 22, by which time you only really gain range.
  5. Yes, when we have the RAM... we have everything ! :D It's just a matter of playing the whole game through and taking snapshots frequently and you can have every resource, figure(number-wise), and formula down. It's almost as good as an ASM dump. Almost. Can the Gateway modify working RAM? As in, could we modify RAM while Awakening is running? That could be really useful to prod at the game code :P Maybe we could find some unused weapons/items/animations?
  6. :D This is shaping up to become my favorite hack! A limited reclassing system is going to be brilliant in SS, it's like a dream come true
  7. Agreed, I was just answering the question :P I don't see implementing a full reclassing system in the GBA engines as "practical". The amount of ARM ASM you'd have to write and patch in... >_>
  8. I'd like to see something close to Awakening's reclass system, but with much more limited second seals and reclassing ability(For instance, no melee -> magic transformations)
  9. Here is the tool to run on Gateway, if anyone is interested. I have the knowledge and I'm willing, the issue is that my 3DS is fully updated so none of the exploits will work on it. Someone with a 3DS of Firmware 4.5-5.0 needs to perform the RAM dump. I can walk someone through if they have the tools but not the knowledge. I'd be very interested in getting exact growth rate values, etc.
  10. This ROM hack is amazing :) Thank you for the hard work you put into this. Got a bug report, when Amelia has her C support conversation with Ilanice it gets... messed up. I had them support on Chapter 3 and I saw 2 entirely different characters that I'd never seen before talking.. One called himself "Canas" which is even stranger :P
  11. This :D Girl of the Spirit Forest has such a catchy song
  12. I'll walk you through it. 1. Download this 2. Put it in a folder called xdelta 3. Grab an unmodified ROM of Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones, same region as the one that you are using that is patched(probably USA version) 4. Open notepad up and copy and paste the following into it: xdelta3.exe -e -9 -s fe8.gba fe8hack.gba fe8patch.xdelta 5. Now click 'save as' and go to the folder you made in Step 2, click the bottom box and change it to say "All files" and name the file 'patch.bat' 6. Rename unmodified FE8 to fe8.gba and the hack to fe8hack.gba, put them both in the folder you made in step 2 7. Double-click patch.bat 8. You should now have a patch named fe8patch.xdelta to upload legally! Please let me know if you have any questions or run into any problems :) EDIT: Derp! I forgot to mention something rather important. Rename the file you downloaded in step 1 to xdelta3.exe or patch.bat won't work! Sorry!
  13. Emulation of the 3DS is years away, unfortunately. It's not that today's computers aren't strong enough to run said theoretical emulator, it's the fact that very little is know about the internal architecture of the 3DS because of all of the various encryptions in place on the firmware. There are several exploits but none released, some of the authors are saying they are waiting for someone to make a homebrew ecosystem, but how can that happen without having the exploit? Having a homebrew ecosystem for the 3DS is also a precursor to having any sort of decent emulator. It's very difficult to write an emulator without being able to write out unit tests to figure out edge case behaviors, and such.

    Hi!

Indeed, though you aren't really "beating" the game in the conventional sense if you want to beat it that fast :P Fastest nonglitched run I've done is probably 4:46 Here is the outline of my route Perform Item Loss Sequence Skip trick to avoid losing Missiles, Boost Ball, Bombs, Space Jump, and Spider Ball Go to Temple Grounds and jump out of bounds to get the nearby Power Bomb Expansion Go to Agon Wastes entrance and "warp" yourself back into the game from outside Go to Agon Use a sand digger enemy to throw you into some metal bars, this will cause you to fall through the wall into the floor. Wallcrawl to Dark Samus' room in the Space Pirate Base Warp back into DS room and fight DS. 1 well placed powerbomb will kill it instantly Get Dark Beam Use Dark Beam to open portal in pirate base Get Light Beam(few tricks to save time, mostly the normal route) Go back to Light World using the portal that takes you to DS room Go up the Spiderball Track in DS room and go to Sanctuary Fortress using your Power Bombs and Light Beam From here, make your way to Watchtower Station Access Now you need to learn a tricky jump: You must go into morph ball, push forward to run off the edge of the cliff, and then when the morph ball is approximately 50% covered you must press X to unmorph and B to jump IMMEDIATELY after. Like, to do it you press them at the same time pretty much. Hold forward the whole time, press R right when you unmorph and L approximately a second after you unmorph(you'll see a cross hair if you did it right) If you did this correctly you won't make it, but when you fall into the Terminal pit you will respawn on the other side. Now you must navigate Vault without the grapple beam. This involves either a careful scandash on to a platform on the right or the easier but slower way, which involves using the rezbit directly in front of you when you enter the room as a platform to jump on top of the structure in the center. From here, a simple double jump off the back to the portal will suffice. Activate 4 spinners Dash Jump back towards bridge(don't worry if you miss or suck at dash jumps, this one is reallllllly easy and if you miss you usually appear where you want to be) Bomb slot Get Screw Attack! Going forward, we must ensure we have at *least* 3 energy tanks, otherwise you will not be able to survive the next part Go to upper Ing Hive, to the entrance of the temple that requires the echo visor. In that room will be an Ing. You must manipulate the Ing into immediately unmorphing after he enters the room, so that he unmorphs in the center. From here you can jump on top of the ing and then double jump into the ceiling. Carefully and quickly navigate outside of the game's boundaries while Dark Aether constantly damages you. I recommend using the safe zones available in every other room(you need to crawl 5 rooms total) even if they are out of the way. Aether Jump up above Quadraxis' room, walk above room until you get to the opposite end and then morph ball to drop. Quickly unmorph when you think you are inside of where the room would be, and you should land inside of the temple access with the room loaded around you Grab Dark Temple Energy! :D Use Screw Attack to lodge yourself into the left wall to secret world out, this time going through the left door in Quadraxis' room(or above it, rather) and door warping into the room beyond. Use the light portal. Return temple energy From here, go get the seeker missiles and light suit from U-mos Go to Agon again Secret world in Save room to bypass a one way entrance to Torvus Bog. Once in Torvus Bog, get Super Missiles, and grab the Emerald Translator Go into Lower Torvus, use either Screw Attack underwater glitch or underwater scan dash to beat puzzle quickly Grab Gravity Boost Skip Alpha Blogg using Bomb jump space jump into Gravity Boost Kill Power Bomb Guardian(needed for Torvus key 2 to appear) Get 3 Torvus Keys Fight Chyyka With Dark Visor in tow, get all the Sky Temple Keys! Beat final bosses with Screw Attack(no really, they can both be beaten pretty easily by it >_>) In my opinion, if you want to learn any one Metroid trick, learn that one. It allows for tons of flexibility in Prime 2 runs and really adds to the game's replay value :)Oh and if you'd like to see this run at work, by someone who is a god at this game, look no further than I'll stop with the information overload now :D

    Hi!

Only up to Chapter 3 so far :P Talking to Eldigan without anyone Raquesis dying from his cross knights is proving to be a pain(you'd think they wouldn't attack their princess!) Huge fan! I have played the game more times than I can count :) my fastest run so far is 3 hours on hard mode, no world record, but something :D

    Hi!

Online name: MP2E Favourite FE Game: Blazing Sword, but I'm beginning to think it might be Genealogy of the Holy War once I beat it :P Favourite Game (other than FE): Doom Favourite FE Character: Jaffar Country: USA Hobbies: coder and maintainer of a few open source projects Good Point: https://github.com/MP2E/
  17. :> Good to hear there's interest. FE5 would be pretty amazing too :P Loki looks fully featured, with that and a decent 65816 dissassembler I am confident that I can figure how to get some text in FE4 and FE5 (without breaking them) I did find a small typo in Chapter 23's dialogue between Brunya and a Soldier. She refers to them as "Soliders" once time :P The fact that this is all I could find after hours of playing shows how far this has come though! Can't wait to play through it again on hard mode(considering using the FE7 rebalancing patch.. not sure yet :P)
  18. Hello! Just wanted to post to say how fantastic this patch is, thank you for all of the time and effort you have put into this game. It's really breathed new life into the story. I feel as though, even though Zefiel has descended into madness, one can't help but see why and pity him. Not to mention, many of the characters seem distinct now in their personalities. They were all kinda.. bland before. Only bug I've noticed so far is the spacing on the weapons breaking, but that's about it :) I'll post if I find anything else. (now if only FE4 had a translation as great as this ;) when higan comes out with the new release with the loki debugger, I plan on trying to hack bookofholsety's script into a ROM)
