  1. The spin offs unfortunately fill in many of the unanswered plotholes of the series and some are part of the timeline. So if you do want to get into the lore further you may need to play them to understand them further. The mainline's story as itself isn't too confusing as it's mostly focused on you saving disney worlds with the usual original backstories but 2 definitely kicks off the really random background lore stuff. And it's unfortunately the one that started the expansive lore behind the many kingdom hearts plot timeline. However!! If you don't care about the story and go right ahead and play the mainline games perfectly fine. However definitely get the bundle or the mega collection that is currently rumored to come out. If you like Action RPG style gameplay this is the definitely the genre of game for you. 1 can be a bit slow but it has the most exploration in terms of level design. 2 is all combat oriented and much faster paced then 1. But both do their jobs well. Currently the definitive versions are on the PS4 Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 + 2.5 Remix (which contains every single enhancements, updates, fixes and changes and in high definitions) It contains: KINGDOM HEARTS Final Mix (First Game) KINGDOM HEARTS Re: Chain of Memories (GBA Remake) KINGDOM HEARTS 358/2 Days (DS Remake) KINGDOM HEARTS II Final Mix (Second Game) KINGDOM HEARTS Birth by Sleep Final Mix (PSP Remake) KINGDOM HEARTS Re: coded. (Mobile remake but it's cutscene movie only) Kingdom Hearts HD II.8 Final Chapter Prologue (Which are remakes and enhancements of some of the spin off titles) It contains: Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance HD Kingdom Hearts 0.2: Birth by Sleep – A Fragmentary Passage Kingdom Hearts χ Back Cover Personally as someone who played a couple of them to completion. The mainlines are definitely worth your time if you want awesome gameplay, action rpg combats. Otherwise the spinoffs are only worth your time if you want some of the unfilled answers and their gameplays are a mixedbag. Other than that there are rumors of them bringing both the above two as one package again because square loves repackaging these games. Don't get me wrong though they did an awesome job remaking these games from the ground up from the handheld side to a full console experience. I would definitely say play at least. Kingdom Hearts 1, Re:Chain of Memories, Kingdom Hearts 2 if you just want to experience the series as a whole. Birth by Sleep is essentially your origins story so that has some merits of play if you want to learn more the background. But otherwise the rest if you jsut want to learn more of the random plot and may or may not be worth your time.
  2. Actually the lip sync is also an issue in the Japanese version. It's a systematic engine design to try and replicate the lips by the sound file. Not by manual animation. This has also been the case in Xenoblade X since it uses the same engine.
  3. Few things I will say is that, handheld mode is the one I played this game a lot on and I don't recommend it if you want to take screenshots in it. You're best to play the game in dock mode if you want good screenshots. The game uses a heavy amount of dynamic resolution worst than Zelda BOTW and most of the time goes below 720p in many cases to the point where your screens will look very pixelated. It's very much much playable but it's obvious the game is optimized for dock mode and not for handheld. Another thing I noticed they removed from X and did the same thing in the original is that if your main playable character dies you're immediately brought back to the last landmark spawn. Which I have no idea why they got rid of this since Xenoblade X, they implemented a timer to respawn where if you die your NPC friends can beat the enemy within timeframe and you don't have to respawn and you won't lose the battle immediately. Which was really helpful for those moments where you die but the enemy's low hp and your party members should be enough to kill them. It was one of the bigger improvements in combat and I have no idea why they removed this.
  4. Personal opinion for me is X >>>> 2 >>>>>>>>> 1 in terms of combat. The biggest advantage that X has is the freedom to build a playstyle towards your specific needs and you can change classes for your main avatar to however you feel like and it works out really well because eventually you have tons of combinations of Arts, Weaponry, Gears and options for you to build your characters and art sets freely however you feel like. The issue is that party members aren't very useful postgame and you're better off building one character over the others but this only an issue if you want to take on the super bosses. The rest of the game they are fine for what they do. 2's biggest advantages are definitely the combo system and it's a lot more NPC team oriented. The limitations has its benefits where you have more resource management that you have to figure out what's best for your specific needs and makes the party members a lot more unique feel to it. I think my biggest issue is that like in 1, it still feels a bit automated at times. There are definitely more button presses but the new autoattack system I feel works and at the same time still a bit of a sleeper at times. One feature I didn't like that they removed is there doesn't seem to be an indicator that tells you what kind of aggro the enemies are anymore. And this makes it hard for me to determine if I want to initiate or can sneak around the enemy. We had it in 1 and X and I have absolutely no idea why they removed it completely here.
  5. Not sure about the progress halt since I haven't encountered it. But Xenoblade X did this too with some party member's required a certain affinity to continue a main story mission. Luckily most of them were low enough that it shouldn't take long to do so. But yeah it seems like they didn't learn their lesson with this for story progression either. Yeah I understand how you feel. On one hand though, I think you can go through the entire game without rolling any of the blades tbh but it really sucks that if you want certain arts or certain weapon skills it's all randomized and you just have to hope the game will give you the blade style you want. And it's not always the optimal one you want either. I really don't like this kind of randomized skill system. Sure in Xenoblade 1 you needed to find a drop to level your arts to level 10 but you can at least still use those arts up to level 7ish which by that time it's all you really needed for the final bosses. X's system just requires a lot of grinding which imo is the better way to do it then some randomized system.
  6. Just did a full gacha summoning blade session with 14 common, 2 rare ones. I got 2 rare blades from the summon. so yeah very RNG luck based. You could essentially roll for nothing at this point. Common blades aren't worth your investment imo especially when you get a rare one you'll want all your resources to be put into that one. Note 1 one them was from a common crystal while the other one was from a rare one. The best way to tackle this is to use a luck accessory since that's the biggest influencer so far.
  7. unfortunately it seems pretty low for a lot of people. Some people have went almost 15 and they got nothing. You can increase your rate by using your characters stat luck but that is still RNG based in the end. It's gacha roll at this point.
  8. It wasn't. It was handled by the exact same team that worked on Xenoblade 1 and Xenoblade 2. Xenoblade 1 took 4 years in development. Xenoblade X took 5 years in development. Xenoblade 2 only took 2 years. The biggest reasoning why Xenoblade X took so long was because they were building a HD engine for the Wii U and they were having many technical problems developing for it. Not to mention it was their first time developing a system that they could use for HD development. This meant half of the development was creating a game engine. Because they were able to build a fully processed game engine for Xenoblade X, they reused the same engine to develop and build Xenoblade 2. Which is why the development went by really fast for this game. They said Xenoblade 2 started development right after Xenoblade X was finished.
  9. It was. Most people ignored what he said about Xenoblade X in general and honeslty I was kind of upset when people just resurfaced this quote and "now" peopel care about it? Just ugh I'm kind of frustrated with this in general. He said he would love to look into it but that's about it. Not much to say about it. http://nintendoenthusiast.com/blog/2017/07/08/nintendos-tetsuya-takahashi-talks-possible-xenoblade-chronicles-x-switch-port/
  10. He said this last e3 so it wasn't really new news. At this point unless there is an actual release I'm not considering this news worthy. But yes Xenoblade X deserves to be respected more than what majority of the community says. It's a beautiful video game that deserves to be played and yes I will buy another copy because I love this game so much more than the original in every way possible.
  11. Here are my general thoughts of the series. I would say gameplay wise Xenoblade X wins immensely whereas Xenoblade 1 is where the plot and story wins. This is the general consensus from the community. But personally I prefer the plot, the world and the story behind Xenoblade X a lot more than Xenoblade 1. Mostly for personal reasons. Not to mention I am more of a gameplay guy over story or plot anyday. Xenoblade 2 is more akin to Xenoblade 1 but I do find it seems like they're going for a more Tales of route in terms of character designs now. Takahashi the director has stated that they want to go with two different directions for this series. Xenoblade will be more your standard traditional adventure JRPG with a more teenageresque story plot and heavy cutscene style game. Xenoblade X is more your open world rpg where you're given a world to explore, find things on your own and doesn't handhold you after giving you the basics. It also have a more adult theme where it does many famous callbacks to popular Sci Fi themes like Blade Runner and human space colonization. Takahashi has stated X will be more focused on gameplay over the story and plot. So keep this in mind as they are going for two different design philosophies for this series. The things I do like about Xenoblade 1: It's a good introduction for letting you get used to the combat system Decent enough adventure style story plot Each party member is unique enough that everyone is different The world can be overwhelmingly big and are eyecandies The things I didn't like about Xenoblade 1: battles can feel very automated if you're up to level there is an artificial punishment system where if you're a few levels under, they penalize your hit rate regardless of your current stats (this was removed in Xenoblade X). This was an issue because after one level up you could be completely demolishing the enemy. So this game is very level based. the 2nd half of the game, the level design really dips and become more giant linear hallways the pacing can be pretty weak and I know many were turned off by the first 10 hours of the game a lot of sidequests are boring and don't influence anything at all. There are maybe 1 or 2 that are plot or world building relevant but majority of them are pointless. At the same time, there are many pickup items from the ground sidequest that you may not know where it is unless you look up a guide. Newgame+ is pointless and doesn't do much other than make you a powerhouse with little differences in gameplay ----------------------------- The things I do love about Xenoblade X: Battles require more thought, timing and learning the enemies regardless of your level. It's more geared towards your gears, stats and your proper arts Avatar customization is great and gives you some nice options to your looks and battle customization Sidequests are the best parts of the game as they give you a significant amount of world building, conflicts and issues that the casts face in land of mira Your choices in dialogue in the sidequests actually matter and influence the outcome of it. You can have a moment where you think a good choice would help but it may lead to the demise of many NPCs. Keep in mind 80% of Xenoblade X is all about sidequests. 20% of the game is the main story Post game content is huge and there are a lot of things you can do after you beat the main story. There are so much to explore. This is the main thing I love. Exploration is the key aspect of this game and they nailed it really well in here. The things I didn't like about Xenoblade X: There are some QoL issues like sound mixing regardless of the language version you play. Even the Japanese version suffers from it during cutscenes. You're best to have subtitles on the first time you play the game. Like the original Xenoblade, some sidequests suffer from collecting pickup items where you don't know where it is unless you look up a guide The amount of things you can do may overwhelm new players significantly and I know I was the first time but you'll get used to the system by time. Overall though I think Xenoblade X is still the superior game. It improves everything I had an issue with the original and fixes it up significantly and actually makes the worlds fun to explore and discover and gives you tons of freedom to play how you like. However I can see why many who came from Xenoblade didn't like Xenoblade X's story because the story direction has been changed significantly. But I think X's world works for what it is. Because of this I have a very hard time to go back to the original game because of the gameplay mechanics are so much better and I have already put in over 1000 hours and I am still playing it to this day. Whereas the original there isn't much replay value after you beat the main game. But this is generally my thoughts of the series as a whole and personally I'm more waiting for Xenoblade X2 over Xenoblade 2.
  12. the thing is, if it affect every single moment in the game then yeah I can see how people can have issues with but majority of the time it's like maybe 0.1 fps difference and it's not like the entire game is completely unplayable. Hardly much of a thing to get angry over. It still runs way better than the original game in every way shape or form.
  13. This is a big example of people grossly overexaggerating the issues with the performance of the game. Yes 11.3 for the 3DS update did indeed affect the performance but most of it only affected the shiekah stone hint system and maybe one or two areas which majority of people won't ever notice or experience much to begin with.
  14. If anything the story isn't really the big issue majority have with the game. The plot's premise is basically like how a Sonic Satam story would have been told. After playing the game for a while really the issue is the level design and the controls. For some reason they made the physics even worse in this version, it's way more stiff, jumps aren't consistent when you press the buttons, double jumps is near worthless. I am perfectly fine with the story honestly as I don't expect much from the story these days but levels designs should always be a priority for any platforming games and unfortunately something happened in the development where they made the controls feel even worse and the level designs don't work with these physics. Not to mention the level designs I feel are way worse than Colors in general as a lot of them feel very automated in many cases. While yes older titles had automated sequences, it's way more profound in this one.
  15. God Xenoblade X's armor system is soooo goood I loved it so much. The fashion armor is one of the best things they've implemented in X as you can equip the most ugliest armor ever but with really good status but you can offset it with another armor as a cosmetic that way you don't look butt ugly and weird looking in the cutscenes. So I am sadly a bit upset that you can't really change the driver's looks because I would give anything to change Rex's default costume at this point. I am not a fan of it. Honestly I am really happy we got fashion armor for free though in the international release because in the original Japanese verison, you either had to pay for fashion armor as DLC or you had to beat the game to do so. So we got really lucky for the international version of Xenoblade X.
  16. I like screwing around with the gears in Xenoblade X. Even better when you make them full naked. A+ if you can keep them with fashion armor. Where you can have the ugliest armor ever but keep the original costumes on them. Which was what made me love Xenoblade X's armor system. I personally doubt it because Xenoblade 2's gears and stats are for BLADEs now. Not for the actual characters itself.
  17. it's not all about collect the power moons. The main charm is really the journey and experience to get those rewards and you do get heavily rewarded for collecting them in the end. The Level design is the biggest factor of why people enjoy collectathon games. There are many games where there is a lot to collect but the levels themselves aren't fun and thus not many will 100% it. The reason why Mario is praised despite being a collectathon is because the levels themselves are so much fun to traverse go around and the freedom of movement control you have with a character. Movement being the one of the reasons why people love Mario games. Many Mario games do heavily reward you for collecting them all. Mario 64 gave you 100 lives, a new unique third jump and fly up to the castle top. Mario Sunshine gave you a new unique ending picture. Mario Galaxy gave you Luigi Mode and a extra new playthrough using him. Mario Galaxy 2 gave you green star challenge and eventually one of the hardest challenging levels in the game. Mario 3D Land and 3D World did the same thing when you collect all the star coins as galaxy did. Mario Odyssey gave you new kingdoms and new challenging levels to go to when you get them. You can easily argue a lot of games have those collect things that don't matter in the end kind of deal like even RPGs do this with excessive grinding and are heavily fetch quest too. Mario at least rewards you for doing these things. Many games out there don't. For example, Sonic the hedgehog games does this frequently where the collectathon is Red Rings where in some games they don't do anything but give you an achievement.
  18. if you have a SD card inside the switch it automatically downloads it there for you immediately by default. If you don't have it then it installs into the system memory. If the game is installed into system memory but you want to transfer you can do so by just deleting it and redownload it. https://www.imore.com/how-transfer-nintendo-switch-games-microsd-card
  19. I've beaten the game. Overall, it's not bad but it's not amazing. It's a middleground of some great stuff but at the same some unneeded things. The few issues I do have with the game are, the camera and the graphical assets sometimes blend in with Sonic and the Avatar characters to the point I can't tell where they are and it screws up my track with where they are when I want to do some platforming or boosting. This wasn't an issue in generations and colors for me but for some reason it was a bit harder to identify in this game. Classic Sonic levels were.....unneeded. The game should have just stuck with Modern Sonic and Avatar levels and refined them through that. They feel very shoehorned in and it's probably because they didn't want to get rid of it from the generations engine which is probably the basis they were using for this game. Level designs are mostly a mix of Colors and Generations but very much focused on Colors design. But not to the point of every level being only 1 min. It's a good mixture between the two really. The avatar levels are decent fun enough and since depending on how you customized your avatar, your level playthrough could be different depending on the weapon your carry and the different paths you can take. While yes there maybe stuff like oh it's Chemical Plant again, their aesthetics and level designs are different enough that it's not 1 to 1. It's more like a name branding if anything than the actual levels themselves The character interactions are one of the better ones in the series as I enjoyed a lot of ramblings from Sonic's Friends compared to the "final boss in generations." The controls are pretty much generations and colors style play. Unfortunately they still haven't fixed the stiffness of jumping and the sonic colors double jumping is still screwing me over constantly but it's not unplayable. Personally, I actually liked this game. But I can understand some of the people won't like it. It's not terrible, it's not bad but it's not amazing. So I would say give it a decent try if you can.
  20. I have the game and have about 2 hours into the game. Overall, I'm enjoying the game. The gameplay feels more Sonic Colors than Generations tbh. Mostly in its level design, the length of them and how you progress. I am playing it on the switch and I do suspect the game looks and performs better on a non switch verison since it plays at 720p at 30fps whereas PS4 and XboxOne plays it at 60fps and higher resolution. The controls....work. Not the best but not the worst like everyone claims to be. It feels like the generation engine tbh and not much to say from it. Out of the missions though I definitely do enjoy the avatar stages the best. The Classic Stages are fine and work for what they are going for. Modern Stages get much better in later levels. But a bit too early for me to judge. Below is a video of me playing the game blind on first try. Overall, I actually really enjoy the character interactions. It's the best one in the series yet and has a lot of great cheesy dialogues. The plot is essentially what I've been looking for in a Sonic game for a long time. Freedom fighters against Dr. Eggman style story. Is it the best? Not really but in actuality, I am enjoying the game despite all the mixed reception people are going around.
  21. Overall the Direct was what you would pretty much expect. A Story trailer, Combat Review from the previous sessions and demonstrations from showcases, Japanese Voices are Free DLC and Season Pass up until around August 2018. The DLC is kind of expected considering Xenoblade X did get DLCs in Japan. The difference was that the international Release got them all for free.
  22. Super Mario Odyssey is essentially Mario 64 and Sunshine on crack really. So yes you'll love this game.
  23. HOLY MOLY!!! Man I can't wait to see a full speedrun as it develops because this is insane.
  24. There are I'm starting some post game moons and I've encountered one that was mandatory. But it was a braindead easy one. Yeah I do agree the Dive should have been a separate button instead of a combination because it really screws up my extra jumps that I want to make. I really hope enough feedback will be given to Nintendo update it because NSMB U has had a controller update once because of the feedbacks given by the fans.
  25. And then you have the japanese boxes which are really small and fragile. Funny enough the JPN GCN cases are smaller than switch's cases. At the end of the day it's just cutting manufacturer cost and using cheaper recycled materials.
