  1. I have not played many JRPGs either, but Bravely Default is even a little bit more tactical than Tales of the Abyss for example. In BD you do not have to control your units during the fights. You just have to give them advises. And it is roundbased. You can attack, defense, use items, change the strategy etc. in your turn. I could not played that much BD yet, but this is one of the main differences.

  2. Gharnef's not in FE2. There is a character called Ganef, strangely enough.

I imagine the developers may have wanted to go a route similar to Breath of Fire, characters (items, in this case) throughout the games have the same name yet are still different.

And Alm's sword being the Falchion... again.

It references not only to the weapon "Falchion", but also to "Garnef", who is the same class sorcerer like in FE1. To my mind this cannot be an accident.

  3. There is absolutely no way to see a sequel of Radiant Dawn. What should be the story? I have no idea!

A prequel of Path of Radiance could be possible theoretical. In the timeline, when Serenes Forest was burned, the murder to the high priestess, Greil teached Zelgius, Elena died at the hand of Greil. Greil and/or Elena could be main characters. Even if it is really really unlikely, because there is spoiled too much in the flashback scenes in Radiant Dawn.

That is really all, I can tell.

  4. what i meant by pairing was marriage, is it diffrent?

It influences the skills of the child. You can get so many A-supports as possbile, if the units can support.

I would pair up Chrom with Nowi and Vaike with Olivia. So that Olivia get boosts in strength and defense, Vaike in speed, Chrom in strength and defense and Nowi in speed.

  5. It is almost impossible to say, which is the best pairing.

In generel I tend to pair up tanky and powerful units like Nowi or Kellam with faster units to get boosts in speed. It makes both units more balanced.

And I like to pair up non mounted units with mounted units, so that non mounted units are more mobile. But this is just my preference.

I like most of the supports except for Vaike + Nah, because they got similar boosts. They got very high strength and defense, but they are kind of slow and got a bad resistance.

  6. ...Sorry?

here's the script, when Celica first meets Catria and Palla

Catria: "Our little sister was abducted by pirates.

We pursued their ship, but we lost sight of it somewhere around here.

Ahh, I want to rescue her as soon as possible, so we can return to our country together."

    Very thanks for the script!

I´m very sorry, if my answer sounded ironical to you. This was NOT my intention! I was not kidding about your reply. I know that Est is famous for getting captured.

  7. It has very little relevance apart from Zeke, Catria, Palla and Est being there. And Alm's sword being the Falchion... again.

Thanks Kelsper. The Falchion will never getting old...

BTW, It was your LP, I watched!

Gharnef's not in FE2. There is a character called Ganef, strangely enough.

The story of FE2 takes place between the events of FE1 and FE3 Book 2. The continent of Valentia where it takes place lies to the west of Archanea. Palla and Catria are there because Est is there. Why is Est on Valentia? Who knows? Camus, after being defeated in battle with Marth's army washed up on the shores of Rigel, the country that makes up the northern half of Valentia. He was found by a woman named Teeta. Camus had no memories of his past life. He eventually rose through the ranks of the Rigel military after being given the name 'Zeke' by King Rudolf. The two of them are close and Rudolf trusted Zeke with critical information.

The story itself doesn't directly relate to the events of FE1 or FE3.

Est was kidnapped by pirates, who fled to Valentia/Valm.

Thanks! This would explain, how the FE1 characters came to Valentia.

Ganef as sorcerer sounds more than familiar, but ok.

  8. RD was my first ever FE game so I nub'd hard at it first time round. For example, once I had Volug I only used him and Sothe and let the rest of the DB practically sit on their thumbs. I also ended up losing Laura as soon as I got her and I let Micaiah have all the BEXP. What's the difference between Micaiah and the rest of the DB? On my playthroughs, the rest of the DB get HP/SPD/DEF when they level! That ended in Micaiah still being double by Knights though. I also abused the DK (bc Alondite and the whole invincible thing) and made general noob mistakes that lead to units getting killed (3-13. I charged Ike with Edward and Nolan and I swear you could see Eddie's spleen fly 60 metres).

RD is one of the hardest of the series on the easiest difficulty. The mainproblem is the DB. Micaiah is fragile and sort of slow. She is only useful with Thani. Laura is a walking target. She will be killed instantly even on easy mode. So you really have to baby your characters, which will be more annoying on harder difficulties.

I would spend bexp. on Micaiah, if she her magic and resistance are maxed. So she can get points in speed. And I would give Micaiah the seraph robe, you get in 1-4.

    Omg lol.

My first playthorough of RD 3-13 was literally same. I tried to fight off Ike but after tons of Battle Saves and restarts I knew my Dawn Brigade team just couldn't match Ike's strength and when Ike's team started appearing I remember saying a whole lot of "Nope. Excuse me? No, no, nooo. Everybody RETREAT. Get your booties out. We out."

My poor Edward. The buffoonery that he endured was tremendous.

Use Laura´s sleep staff to Ike. His resistance is very low, so you have a high chance to get him. For beating Ike you have at least one third tier unit, who gets a mastery skill. It is almost impossible to beat him only with second tier units, because of Ike´s very high defense. Only Micaiah´s purge can seriously hurt him.

  9. Weren't you also being a smartass when you talked about the people who don't know what indigo is?

    :P

It has absolutely nothing to do with being a smartass! This is general knowledge!

My comment referred to a LP of FE8 I watched. The LPer did not know what indigo hair is, when Myrrh was described.

And I really apologize for my bad English :B):

  10. I own Bravely Default and Etrian Odyssey IV. Both are fantastic. I like BD a bit more, because you can identify better with the characters.

Etrian Odyssey Untold: Millenium girl will be released next month in the EU, so I could not play, yet.

I have not played a game of the SMT-series, yet, so I cannot say anything.

Another great RPG game is Tales of the Abyss, if you have not played it, yet.

  11. I remember the biggest danger in the Ahsera battle was the counter effect on the auras. You had to plan how to destroy the auras without dealing massive damage to your own units with their own attacks. Ashera herself was certainly powerful but I don't remember it as so powerful you will definitely lose units. She was threatening but she never seemed cheap or ludicrously strong.

Preparation does play a huge part in it. I wasn't prepared for Ahsnard's charge so when he came towards me so soon I couldn't lock down his movement with four units even though I had most of my army in that fountain area. And since he usually had two squares beside him that we're fountain, blocking him off from my weaker units became a complex situation that involved baiting his AI and positioning my units that could take a blow in very precise places. But that it purely because of the way I entered the fight. If Ike was he only one there it easily could have been a one on one battle. Or if I had Jill and two other units that can take a blow I could have easily boxed him in much sooner before he had a chance to use the fountain as cover.

Ashera is extremly powerful. Jugde is the most powerful weapon in Fire Emblem history with a might of 50. She has a physical attack of 58 and a magical of 65. Her most dangerous attack is the physical range map attack after turn 1. You have to place the mages and especially the herone far enough away from her.

Another point is her high speed of 32. You really have to worry about units, who get <29 speed, because Ashera will kill everyone with two magical attacks except maybe the dragons.

Ashera has 5 autority stars, which gives her a hitrate and avoid of +25%. So her hitrate always is 100% except against units, who get an earth support.

To avoid damage of the auras, you have to give nihil or parity to your units (especially units, who can attack the auras twice).

If you make good use of the red dragons and Nasir, you can beat Ashera in turn 2.

Ashnard will move after turn 10, or if you put Ike into his range. So you have to retract all the units, who cannot damage him.

Like a said in a previous comment: If you give Ike the skills wrath and resolve, he could take down bezerk Ashnard in one turn. So you do not even have to call a laguz royal.

    A good FE boss absolutely

    Positively

Has to have a large attack range. Read: movement or siege. That said, sometimes the chapter is so terrifying that a "sit there and look ugly" boss can actually be scary as hell; see FE12. I don't even know how you're theoretically supposed to clear that shit on Lunatic or L'. DRAGON SPAWNS, MAN. CHRIST.

Ashnard could've been the best boss fight in the series, honestly, if his defenses were a bit better and he didn't have the whole magic armor thing going.

As far as being a fun story experience goes: I adored the atmosphere of the Dheginsea battle, and the Yurius battle did quite well in that regard, too.

I have not played FE12 on lunatic or higher yet, but Medeus in FE11 on merciless is a pain, because you have to sacrifice units to beat him. He has speed of 30, which means, that he doubles almost everyone!

Ashnard has terrible luck; no luck in normal mode. His defense is okay, because Ike can only do max. 9 damage to him. Ashnard is ridicolous easy, if Ike gets wrath and resolve. But without skills and royal laguz, he is a great challenge!

The fight against Dheginsea is probably the best dragon fight in the entire FE series. The atmosphere and the theme are fantastic.

  12. Emmeryn sucks. A lot. Shes easy to like, but shes just plain awful in general. This is a bad example on how to write characters like her. Simply because shes just not very intelligent. Post-Splat Emmeryn is even worse.

I would not say, that Emmeryn is not intelligent. Her main weakness might be, that she is pacifist.

She's only respected by them as she is a girl. If it were a guy like her attitude, then it would be as you said. She could have had backup from her men, though she didn't need it. Shows on how strong a ruler that she really is by taking matters into her own hands. Sure she's not very smart at some of the decisions that she made, like allowing Cordelia's henchmen die doing nothing about that, but she tries her best to be a good ruler like Elincia.

Elincia also isn't a harsh ruler (showing what happened having a humble ruler. FE10 Part II.) and look where it got her after a little help from the royal knights. ^^

In my opinion the difference between Emmeryn and Elincia is, that Emmeryn is pacifist (only related to mainstory) and Elincia tries to be it. But it failed, because Elincia is swamped about the abuses, so she has to fight and send the CKs. Emmeryn´s decissions might not be smart, but she tries with all one´s might to prevent a war.

  13. I know, that many people will kill me, but I hated the entire Pokémon series, when I was younger. I disliked the creatures. In 1999, when Pokémon was popular, I was the only one of my friendship, who neither played the games for the gameboy nor collect the cards. I was not carried of the hype.

I never have played a single game of the Sonic-series it, because I never really liked him. And I do not play games of the "Mario-series" anymore, because the story and gameplay are pretty much the same like about 25 years ago. It would bore me.

  14. If I read the description, I would say FE4 has the best use of miracle. The activation is guaranteed for one turn, while in FE13 the activation is based on luck. The activation will be much better later, if you got a high support level and the limit breaker. But especially in the beginning it is not much better than miracle in the Tellius games, which is probably the worst.

  15. She does have among the best atmosphere among any FE final boss, in addition to having one of the best backstories. I do agree that she could have been harder, but to say that she shouldn't be fighting is asinine, considering her role.

Only if it crits at least once in a 2-hit round. Canas is not guaranteed to be able to double the Fire Dragon, so at any rate, you're definitely gonna need more than just Athos to take down the Fire Dragon. (And speaking of whom, there is the chance that Athos might not be able to survive the first blow from the Fire Dragon at base.)

Ephraim and Seth are pretty much all you need. Heck, even Duessel at base with Garm could be able to help with Fomortiis.

Not necessarily. He can be defeated by Ares, Seliph, and Shanan. But chances are that you're gonna need to heal every turn you attack, and it's gonna take longer than with Julia toting the Book of Naga. But defeating Julius without the Book of Naga isn't really impossible.

Most of the dragons fights are in general pretty lame except for Medeus. But I agree, that the atmosphere in FE6 is great.

I know, that it is possible to beat Julius without Julia. But it will be a very long and exausting battle (like Ike against Ashnard without skills and laguz support).

  16. Here are my suggestions:

    - devil bow

    - crossbow (but it has to work like other weapons)

    - brave tomes like Celica´s gale or waste in FE13 for all magic types (the might should not be that high, maybe like "el-magic" and the hit rate should be at least 90% for light and 75% for thunder)

    - wind magic should be effective against flying units, thunder against dragons and dracoknights (like FE10), fire against beasts (like FE9 + 10), light against monsters and dark against ballistacians

    - bring back ballistacians and add shipcanons

I'd like to see cannons, with different shot types (cannonballs, grapeshot, explosive cannonballs, Bullet Bills).

They canons would be good on ships. Explosive cannonsballs could do effective damage like fire magic.

I would love having a bow that used magic instead of strength. Maybe with flaming arrows, or arrows imbued with Wind magic?

Magic bows would be a great add.

  17. Reguarding this topic's question...I would say that for Iduon. Easiest last boss finish in the series.

FE4 Julius-If the AI would get him to Meteo your units while attacking him, he would be harder as you would have to start over anyway. But...if you don't mind a death or two, then he's otherwise going to be easier. He saws damage in half possessing Charge, Nihil and Wrath to make him even more dangerous that it is impossible to battle him with any other character other than Seliph and Julia.

FE9-Ashnard is impossible to kill without the Ragnell, or Wrath+Resolve drgn. Having him move made it harder than you think.

FE10-Ashera may arguably be the hardest final challenge in the series. It is almost impossible to clear this challenge without at least losing a few characters as she can defeat UU, or under tiers without breaking a sweat. You just have to hope that she decides to target Nasir(Who is one of the few that can survive her onslaught), or any Laguz Royal to have everyone see a happy future.

FE11-Medeus is easier this time. He can be beaten by strong enough units with divine weapons.

FE12-Same as before in FE3 except that he doesn't saw your power in half.

FE13-Grima all you need is Luna, Ignis, Vengence to stand a chance.

If you do not got Naga´s tome, you are really screwed against Juius.

You also get a laguz royal and Nasir/Ena, who can damage Ashnard. Giffca does more damage than Ike. But the easiest way to beat him is with Ike´s wrath and resolve.

You can beat Ashera without losing any units without that much trouble! On the first turn you just have to place the units with worst defense far enough away of her or on a cover place, that the physical range attack cannot kill them. If you use the strongest units and make good use of the red dragons and Nasir, you can beat her in turn 2.

In FE11 on the hardest difficulty you have to sacrifice some your of units to beat Medeus in one turn.

Grima can be killed easily in one turn in general.
