  1. Although that would usually be true(although crit elwind might be better then thoron in non ambush contexts), Mage fighters can not equip hero swords, and i try to even out the awesome weapons a little bit. (in a normal pairing, the hero sword would be useless on arthur, so this would not apply)
  2. Rings of the same type do not stack in this game, so you can not give both to one person. I heard that arthur becomes hilarious with a hero sword(mage knight has B rank) and strength ring, although i have not tried this myself. (Lex!arthur will cap strength on average, and his strength will be higher then his magic after promotion even without rings.) This also fixes the "two sibblings, only one A rank tome" problem that plagues all tiltu pairings other then azel and levin.
  3. I find the golden sun series to be quite fun. Sure, they have their weaknesses (far too much dialog and almost no difficulty being the biggest.) But slow, easy games are nice when you want to unwind, and i liked the fact that you could use magic to solve non-battle puzzles.
  4. I got around that problem by waiting until they wandered to the right side of the room(where they will not be agro'd by your opening the door, although the armors are. once the armors are have all moved to the left door, i opened the other door with my b team, who had to deal with only the javelin solders, who are weak enough that capturing is really easy.(you can also bait them by placing a decoy on the other side of the right wall, ans none of the armors have ranged weapons and they are not in xavier's range. I did not need the sleep sword either to recruit xavier, because of a dodgy decoy. This strategy is easy enough that i got through the map with one reset, and only a little bit of luck(the reset was due to missing the nova scroll, which is not related and entirely luck based unless you use an unlock staff) Also, you can avoid hammer counter attacks by rescue dropping the civilians that correspond to the killer lance armors in front, so that the knights that get killed by hammers tend to be those who are already recruited and thus do not matter.
  5. You can actually get him more easily than you might expect. Simply use the fire emblem WOD guide here: http://www.fireemblemwod.com/fe5/guia/ENG_cap18.htm This allows you to figure out which civilian corresponds to which soldier based on portrates(with two unfortunate exceptions with the same picture,) Then rescue drop them into the right order in front of the door before unlocking it. Xavier is controlled by the ai and thus loves to attack or tanky or dodgy units with no two range attack. The other enemies should be dealt with using long range magic. I actually used no sleep staff uses on my run through.
  6. I will admit that i have no snes hacking experience, so i was using as my source the following forum thread: http://www.smwcentral.net/?p=viewthread&t=22349 It sounds like that thread was hilariously inaccurate. Sorry if i confused anyone. Also, could you give me more information? i would love to learn about this. Thanks (Also, i already use snes9x for features, plus higan when that does not work.)
  7. more detail can be found here: http://legendsoflocalization.com/mother-3/ that particular part of the site has not updated recently, but rest of the site has (click on "other games") There is even some fire emblem information in the q&a section. WRT "space is cheap", it is until you hit the max rom size, at which point you run out of memory addresses, which are allocated on a hardware level. Past that point, the console is simply not equipped to handle a larger rom. For the relatively new gba, this is 32mb(which is large enough for most fire emblem related purposes). For the snes, this is 4mb, which is essentially all used for the Japanese versions of FE4 and 5 already. (you can exploit an emulator bug to go up to 8mb, but this is not recommended as newer emulators do not do this, and many tools have issues.) EDIT: My source was bad, so i am wrong about space limitations. See below.
  8. There exists another game called "Mother 3" that is also 32 MB, mainly due to the absurd level of detail(graphical and otherwise) in that game, as well as an absolute ton of unused content due to a long development cycle(including my avatar as of this posting). It is actually known to that game's community that you need to be careful about what flashcart you are using (Ironicaly, the M3 brand does not work). This is also why exactly one romhack exists(and that one reactivates unused content): there is almost no free space to use. The translation patch actually had to recode an existing part of the game specifically to free up space.
  9. I see the following similarities: 1. vaguely generic medieval fantasy setting with a "dark" edge(most similarities except the following two are due to the appearance of medieval fantasy tropes). 2. byzantine politics. 3. the "kill off/incapacitate most of the main characters" plot twist.(although game of thrones does it differently) Note that #3 counts as a massive similarity simply because of how rarely that twist is used. If by realism you mean teen marriages and cousin incest, then yes, FE4 has that.
  10. You are correct of course, but i wanted an excuse to do some math and practice excel. Then i figured that i would share my findings. (also, it is implied that extra holy blood wears off and disapeares after 1-2 generations)
  11. It recently occurred to me that if we take the formulas to calculate the growths of the children in FE4 and run them in reverse, we can calculate the growths of the parents of the generation 1 player characters and substitutes. To recap, we know the father's growth in a stat plus half the mother's growth equals the brother's growth and that the mother's growth in a stat plus half the father's growth equals the sister's growth. However, if we plug in the brother and sister's growths, we have a system of linear equations in 2 equations and 2 variables, which we can solve for the mother and father's growths. Repeating this once for each stat allows us to calculate the growths of vylon, ring, their wives, and all parents of the substitutes. Note that this rests on the assumption that the formulas given above are followed when the parents are not player characters. Ring's stats also follow the assumption that the formulas mentioned above work for identical twins. Other wise, we would need andre's growths in order to calculate them, which is obviously impossible as he is not a player character. Note that all growths in the following table(note: table is in ziped excel document becaues i could not get it to display properly). holy blood bonuses are not included. Major holy blood is in capitals. I could calculate more, but this suffices to show that intsys did not think about this when implementing this mechanic. Note especially roddlevan's father's negative RES growth. This actually happens whenever one kid's growth is less then half of the other's(for example laylea's and sharlow's MAG growths). In summery, the growth system in FE4 is like the continents at the edge of the awakening map. Intriguing, but nonsensical if you look closely. Parrentgrowths.zip
