  1. Snow finally arrived yesterday, just in time. Though the temperature is still just barely above 0°C.
  2. I played the lottery as a kid once with my grandma (great parenting) and iirc won 20€. I did play the slots somewhat frequently when I was 14 or so, but haven't bothered with any of that since.
  3. Got Transistor and Witcher 2. Wallet suffered way too much damage for my liking in the Black Friday sales, so ~7€ worth will suffice. A reminder for anyone who hasn't yet gotten into Ys; now would be a good and very inexpensive time to do so.
  4. The other thread is just there to post individual songs and such. Dragon Quest 5 (PS2), Tactics Ogre, SMT IV. Devil Survivor (/Overclocked) and Strange Journey also have really interesting soundtracks, though there are only a few standout tracks I really enjoy. Majin Tensei 2 is the one I listen to the most.
  5. Really, Unit 731 and the like, op. Cherry Blossoms at Night, etc. are ultimately frightening enough to seal the deal for me.
  6. On the other hand, if you abstain from ever selling your games, you're very realistically going to end up not replaying most of them again. If you don't happen to be a collector, the money and room you get in return for selling them can easily outweigh the benefits of having insane amounts of physical games just lying around, for many.
  7. The Banner Saga is one with very calculable mechanics and low values throughout.
  8. Actually tried to make permadeath less intimidating for newer players with several design choices (that are subsequently also accommodating for ironmanning) rather than adding a mode where it is scrapped outright, wonderfully localized, implemented the best reclass system thus far (also applies for 12) and has one of the most entertaining difficulties in the series (though FE12 H3/4 does ultimately go about it a lot better).
  9. There are a load of really baffling place names (not all of these are for streets specifically, but worth noting nonetheless) in Finland, including but not limited to... Pallivaha (Ball wax) Hevonperseenmutka (Curve of the horse's ass) Mulkkuvuori (Dick mountain) Paska-Avenue (Shit avenue) Persesilmänlampi (Pond of the ass' eye) The absolute worst is Neekerisaari, the translation of which I'm not going to post here.
  10. Don't recall ever voting before, but a cause such as this is worthy Anacybele
  11. TES: Arena. The lore contributions the game has that weren't retconned by Morrowind are few and far between, there is almost no dimension of height (which makes every location just plain soulless), and the main quest is effectively 17 fetch quests. The only Elder Scrolls I wouldn't recommend to anyone.
  12. A major factor in the outcome of the Winter War was that thanks to the Great Purge, much of the competence sorely needed to orchestrate such an invasion was kind of dead (an issue concerning the whole Red Army, so not quite invincible). But the outcome was indeed a wake-up call of sorts for Stalin, seeing how the Red Army was bolstered shortly thereafter (military leadership reforms, equipment more suitable for winter warfare, improved training and such). 'Undefeatable under Stalin' is still somewhat odd of a claim. The Soviet losses in stopping the German advance were atrocious, and that's with all the missteps on Hitler's part.
  13. Greatest theme for a final dungeon ever. The procedural nature the track has in-game is hard to appreciate in OST form, but there's not much to be done about that.
  14. Easy, it's effectively the standard difficulty for Ys speedrunning (though he does have the Very Easy WR too, haha). I guess there's also a possibility he did the run segmented since he hasn't uploaded a video or anything, though I'm certain he's at least not one to cheat.
  15. There are books to be written and plenty of blood to be spilled over the topic question and it's just about impossible to answer, but the easiest ones to get into are SMT4 (for traditional SMT), Soul Hackers (3DS version has adjustable difficulty, if you want the dungeon-crawler gameplay without the philosophical themes), both Overclocked and Record Breaker (for SRPGs, since both feature easy modes not present in the original titles) and probably Persona 3 & 4 (these are relatively hard to categorize and different from other games in the series (other than DeSu2, to an extent) but very beginner-friendly). The DDS games play the most like traditional JRPGs, but still have that differentiating SMT touch. Stuff like Devil Children or Last Bible is probably better left for later. Majin Tensei 2 is the one most similar to FE you will find from this franchise, but the lack of a translation patch makes me hesitant to recommend it for a starting point.
  16. How the hell does gaiachaos have a time of 1h24m in Oath in Felghana ;_; Not much incentive to learn a speedrun route when you know you'll never get near topping that.
  17. Yeah, I think Chiki's "Is it wrong to eat dead babies?" is the best subject to ever be discussed, an SD topic I sadly didn't have the privilege of witnessing myself.
  18. @Hatt There's not much that I disagree with :P Admittedly I haven't really taken the significance of the Ukrainian culture(s) into account as much as I should have, and to be frank, it's genuinely a mystery to me; the provider of my Russian lessons talked about Ukraine once (from the perspective of a 70+ year old native Russian) and, despite being an avid follower of Ukrainian politics and having visited the country on multiple occasions, he still admitted to being unable to make sense where all the differing attitudes towards Russians stem from. Should make for an interesting subject to study on my own if I happen to get around to it in three decades someday, though. Haha, I suppose that's a fair point. Serious Discussion has often been a repository for much more egregious content than most of what can be found in FftF in general, after all.
  19. Ah, I see. I'd agree with the position being somewhat hypocritical in most cases, but the Donetsk/Luhansk regimes are considered to be illegitimate (i.e. Russian-orchestrated) in the eyes of the west with good reason, I'd argue. Since the ongoing information war regarding the matter has been going strong for a good while now we've no way of knowing for certain, but I'd say they have relatively solid reasons for perceiving the situation as such. Admittedly I'm also inclined to believe so by my nationality, seeing as the Finnish Democratic Republic was a thing and possessed a multitude of similarities with the 'republics' now seceding from Ukraine. I'm of the opinion that Crimea does indeed belong to Russia (and that had Khrushchev had the small amount of foresight necessary to see what future effects his 'gesture' of transferring Crimea to the Ukraine could have, that part of the conflict might have never come to pass), but the way the peninsula was forcefully annexed to Russia as a response to the Euromaidan Revolution and how the the conflict spread to Eastern Ukraine not long thereafter, certainly doesn't paint a good picture of the authenticity of the Donetsk/Luhansk regimes. And why am I effortposting to HHH thread of all places just sparkles will do
  20. I would've actually wanted to hear Hatt's take on the matter :(
  21. I usually postpone all of the purchases I want to make until a sale happens to pop up, and when one does I do tend to go a tad overboard.
