  1. It's easy to say inaccurate things about a game when you first play it so I won't include first time arounds like when I initially played my imported Fates (I considered Takumi top tier). I guess it would be when I was somewhat into min maxing in Awakening and adamantly thought Assassin was the best class for females
  2. Best Story: It's hard to beat SoV. Its presentation was top notch and the rest of the games are just pretty bad in the department overall. Best Gameplay: Conquest shits on everything else. All of them are easy to trivialize, but CQ definitely had the best ideas. Worst Story: Birthrout because it's just so uninspired. CQ story was a shit show but the ideas they tried to pull were admirable. What's that saying? Better to fall for something than to stand for nothing? Yeah, that's how I feel. SoV is routine FE as well but it was just so well polished sans Celica's streak of dumb that it gets a pass. Also dat voice acting gave it a whole new layer. Birthright combined the worst of FE's cliches with the typical problems that we all know Fates for. Worst Gameplay: Birthrout again. At the highest level, Awakening at least still has a very meaty and fulfilling early game in Lunatic and tough difficulty throughout with L+ (Robin cheese aside). Revelation has its problems, but when you appreciate it as a sandbox mode for you to just go crazy with cross route pairings and class changes then it's actually pretty fun. I've done more runs of Rev than I care to admit, but when you do no royals it's a super fun exercise in exp and resource allocation. Taking those shitty early units and feasibly turning them into war champions without endless turtling is really fulfilling (and easier than it may seem). On the other hand, nothing can save Birthrout from being horrible. It's nothing but braindead routs with too many resources and weak enemies. SoV is kind of a shit show as well and is definitely a distance 2nd place in this category but it was at the very least an extremely unique experience compared to the rest of 3DS FE, what with its dungeons and odd weapon systems and promotions. Promoting to class bases and lower stats also made it feel like super throwback Kaga FE to some extent.
  3. Monster Hunter Super Robot Wars (preferable the OG series but the main series is fun too) Long long ago, the Tales of Series (though my love for it has died out significantly since Xillia 1) The Xeno series (XC1 is my favorite) The .Hack series
  4. Kaneshiro in Persona 5 was the last boss I remember making my blood boil.
  5. Anna and Alfonse are shit. Shareena is decent but base level rally atk is enough to keep her around tbh. That lets your brave weapon characters let loose.
  6. Admittedly, Leo is a a better character than him, but Takumi has a few more things that make me like him more: - Prf Bows are my fetish - He's in my favorite class Character wise, there isn't much I can state about him that everyone else hasn't already said. He's relatable and well rounded. It sucks that his totally human reactions to Corrin were used to set him up as the bad guy, with his "redemption" being him finally riding the Corrin train. God forbid there is someone on the ally side that dislikes Cornflakes.
  7. My initial 15 orbs yielded me Cordelia 4*, Olivia 3*, and Barte 4*. I can roll with this for a while.
  8. surprised Effie is so high, even as one of her biggest fans. I love how most characters would kill to have Camilla's base stats even at like 20/10. What the fuck were they thinking.
  9. Simply having the choice to grind doesn't mean you are encouraged to. You are encouraged to Lowman like all hell, given how stingy deployment is sometimes and how strong enemies are (Lunatic), but never to grind. You're certainly encouraged to replay the game given the sheer size of the cast and new supports (some of which I adore). On any route, if you're trying to get everyone hitched off, you're gonna be doing grinding anyway. RV and BR just have a more convenient means to do so.
  10. To actually answer OP's question, No royals is legitimately fun. You'd be surprised what people who join before C14 are capable of.
  11. wat Okay look RV has its issues but this particular sentiment is just a lot of noise. At no point do you have to grind in RV. This is similar to those old complaints about Awakening Lunatic being impossible without grinding.
  12. Shoutouts to Hana!Velouria's bonkers growth spread.
  13. Silence staff is handy for C26 and maybe endgame if you're masochistic enough to play it legit.
  14. Kana is made for postgame PVP, but pretty mediocre in game.
  15. The dodge tanking is dead mentality is funny (edit for clarification: proper dodge tanking is not bad, it's simply less effective than it was in 2RN iterations). It's still a thing. Crank up the speed as high as you can with tonics, promote to swordmaster, throw every goddess icons at her (+4 luck starts to add up fast), even throw on rally luck for +8 extra luck, forge a practice Katana for 8 MT and 5 extra speed (usually works out to about 8-10 extra avoid), eventually her 75% speed growth gets her to a point to where she's effectively immortal on player phase and just plain hard to hit on enemy phase. A lot of late game enemies have poor skill. This is less effective in Revelation, but Kazahana can marry Keaton for Fighter!Hero and get the +5 HP skill and sol so it balances out easily.
  16. tfw when people don't look at your hyperlink and see her being 3HKOd by a C23 Paladin on Lunatic mode at 34% hit rate... on enemy phase (no duelist's blow). It's cool tho. Have you ever tried promoting her to Master of Arms if you have issues with her bulk? Let's her pick up Naginata if you are willing to spare an arm scroll for +1 Def (a net gain of +2 Def over Katana) and she gets +4 HP/Def for raw durability and an overall improvement to her bulk growths (45 HP/30 Def isn't that bad actually). The Revelation complaint is irrelevant when you realize she's got the highest non servant/non paralogue availability and still is considered one of the salvageable units. The Ryoma bit is sorta like really old school complaints when people used "not Seth" as a criticism for a unit's viability. It's sorta silly.
  17. Oh don't get me wrong, I said she's not OHKO'd, but that doesn't mean a high Atk enemy won't beat her within an inch of her life if they whack her. It's why I place a very strong emphasis on the word survive. A 1 HP unit can still be healed, use a healing item, refreshed, sheltered, or just be shielded on EP.Mostly I use the C7 seraph on her then let her growths/promo bonuses do everything else with tonics and food bonuses helping out.
  18. tbh Hans in general is dangerous for basically everyone at 1 range. He's very strong for that stage of the game. With regards to the bold, Strong and Fast are basically the only things she's good at naturally. Her personal Str/Spd growths are higher than some characters with their class growths added, lol. Anyone you have in the party after Ryoma joins are either basically optional or around to speed things along since he can't be everywhere. I'd never argue her in the party over Ryoma. As for my input on her stats, I'll assume LM just because. In order for Kazahana to do 13 damage to Han's 10 Def she'd need 23 Atk. With tonic and WTA (assuming she's C swords) she'd need 4 procs total. This means she's at her level 11 average in C13. If she's level 11, that's a tad below average for anyone you're seriously using long term at that point (lowmanning is a thing in Hoshido). But the difference between a C7 fighter (which she can ORKO at base) and a C13 fighter is 4 HP and 2 speed. It's not hard to keep her up, and post C13 brings the reverse katana which doubles weapon triangle penalties/bonuses (she's taking less damage and has more avoid than normal against lances) giving her much better WTC. Promo is either 10 more avoid and 2 Def or a raw +4 HP/Def to durability. Been playing Fates since release and the only things that have ever achieved OHKO on her are the like 50-something atk Fighters in C19 who have lol 15 HP and the final boss of Hoshido so I've never been sure what everyone has been doing with her lol.
  19. I'd like to give a shoutout to Loki and Lumi for applying context to her character and instead of lighting one part of one support on fire and calling it a day. It still surprises me that to this day no one seems to have read past the goddamn C support. There are 4 supports for a reason. Confirmation bias is one helluva drug. I've used Hana to "dodge tank" very reliably, but I still make sure she can survive what she is dodging beforehand in the event it fails. Dodge tanking is a means to extend survivability,as opposed to being something to rely on (e.g. being 3HKO'd at 25% hit rates by 4 enemies, on average only 1 enemy will hit which makes me comfortable with my survival odds). Throwing her at something that will OHKO her and gambling on it missing is simply not good strategy. That being said, I'm probably one of the few people that has used her in every run of Fates I've done ever simply because I like her that much (including my no royals Revelation Lunatic no grind run.) I love her Pink/Brown design and Pink Swordmaster coat, I love how she's blunt and isn't afraid to tell the truth, but at the same time is also willing to apologize when she knows she's legitimately offended someone/hurt their feelings, I love how she can be genuinely thoughtful when you aren't an ass to her (Hayato support), I love glass cannons, I like how she's brash all the time but still is human enough to get hurt (the mycastle conversation where she talks about boys picking on her made me sadface). I know she gets a lot of flack for being all about dat Sakura, but it's pretty easy to see why once you dig into her character. Sakura is more than just her best friend she wants to protect; Sakura represent a two fold reason for living that's rooted in Kazahana's desire to be like her father. Sakura is both her best friend (as her father was to Sumeragi or something IIRC) and someone of the royal family she can protect like her father did. It's not a deep or compelling character trait, but it is one that is well reinforced and easy to understand. It's the reason Silas's support made me so angry when he said that his resolve was greater than Hana's to protect Kamui (his supposed best friend that hardly remembers him? Please.) Back to gameplay, I always like a high availabiliy growth unit (and her offensive bases are freaking ridiculous). Considering that in 3DS FE there are a million ways to boost stats for everyone (someone over on reddit calcuclated Benny doubling CQ Endgame boss from base) it's not hard to get her to a point of decent survivability. Pair ups, Master of Arms +4 HP/Def, tonics, reclasses, etc. I even wrote about how she can snowball from base in her join chapter alone. I've been accused of liking her for FeMyrm bias which annoys me to no end. I can acknowledge when FeMyrms are bad. Only other FeMyrms I like would be Mareeta and Mia (in FE10, of course).
  20. Hinoka is best off in Falco for Birthright but she would probably prefer Spear since she kinda bad in Revelation.
  21. Same. The map is near perfect on HM but just way too much in LM. Still a thing. Add Dark mage and +Str Wyvern Lord and +Mag Malig to the list.
  22. Congrats! This thread technically can't necro so I think you're good. I legit will never do no rescue of CQ endgame. It's too dumb.
  23. I wanna take on the secret boss on Lunatic but tbh I don't have it in me to start alllll over again. That has to be at a later date. Congrats though!
  24. It's funny since Ryoma's bulk actually isn't bad. Heck, part of what makes Ryoma (in Birthright, at least) so dumb is that he has above average bulk in addition to being near untouchable. So like, even if the RNG goes south, he can still take a few hits and that is discounting his innate +25 crit at base in conjunction with astra and 1-2 range. In addition, he has astra in his base class while Xander has to go through an even slower class to get luna. Thought experiment: In Birthright, let's say you give Ryoma the 3 seraph robes you get in the story (no one bats an eyelash with Xander hogging every speedwings, so don't call this favoritism), with tonics and a base Rinka support, he has 56 HP/19 Def. His personal reduces damage by 2 so that's an effective 21 def.. This is discounting any growths and that's already hard to take down. For a serious EP, you could even throw rally def on him and +def food. Best case scenario, that's bumped up to 27 def. So even if an enemy got lucky and whacked him, he's still not going down anytime soon. Even if we take it to Rev where's there's less resources, Ryoma's staggering 10 base speed lead says everything that needs to be said. There's only 1 speedwings in Rev and Xander joins one chapter before enemies promote en masse (no time for that Charlotte support to kick in). So it's on a spectrum that the faster you play, the better Ryoma is and vice versa for Xander.
