  1. For favorites, I'm sticking with Ike, with Alm and Celica almost tied. Ike being the naive little kid forced into inheriting the Greil Mercenaries after his dad's death meant he had to grow a lot and he did it pretty effectively (you can see him shift into a more mature leader over the course of the game not only with handling the mercenary company, but also his composure around the Black Knight, going from "You killed my father! DIE!" to "I'll show you what I learned!"). I've seen a complaint about how Alm and Celica don't fit in with the whole "one's more like Mila, the other more like Duma," but I don't see the issue. Alm fits in line with the "Rigel gave us no choice but to fight, so I'll charge into them, full force" mentality and it clearly shows the Duma in Alm. On top of that, he fulfills a similar character growth to Ike, where he knows little about the world but works to become a capable leader who wants to help as many as he can. Celica is very peace-driven and willing to do what benefits many people. While some would argue that mucking around the seaside in Act 2 contradicts her desire to reduce conflict, think about it: she wants to rid the seas of pirates for the merchants and wants to eliminate the draco zombie by the shrine so it doesn't cause potential problems for others if it decides to wreak havoc. Also, she reacts strongly with emotion, moreso than Alm does. While she's clearly foolish for trusting Jedah in Act 4, Jedah semi-holds Alm's life in his hands (or at least sees the pain and torment Alm experiences after he kills Rudolph) and it drives her to react in a way she thinks is best for Alm. In essence, Alm and Celica don't just complement each other: they complete each other. If it was just Alm or just Celica, neither of them would be very interesting nor effective lords. Least favorites would be Corrin and Ephraim. I know Corrin is a victim of Fates' atrocious writing (much like a majority of Fates' cast), he/she still comes across as a know-nothing kid that effectively wants the best for everyone, but doesn't go about it the correct way (Conquest being a VERY prominent example). Also, everyone treats him/her as the "can do no wrong" character (Corrin can do plenty wrong, princes and princesses, he/she is by no means perfect (Takumi was right not to trust Corrin)). I think Corrin would work better as a character if the ones he/she bounces off of the most (primarily Azura) featured better or consistent character traits (Xander). For Ephraim, his only concern seems to be messing up as much as he can and miraculously getting away with every meat-headed decision he can make. His motto also sounds cocky--when I see "I don't pick fights I cannot win," I imagine him picking every single fight and winning anyway given what he does in SS and thinking, "There is no way he's winning every single one of these battles."
  2. Lord: Ike and Alm (Celica not far behind) (FE9/FE15) Villager: Gray (FE15) Cavalier: Silas or Titania (FE14/FE9) Cleric/Troubadour: Lissa/L'Arachel (FE13/FE8) Mage: Mae/Boey/Leo (FE15/FE14) Lancer/Soldier: Oboro (FE14) Mercenary: Gregor/Saber (FE13/FE15) Pegasus Knight: Marcia/Elincia (FE9) Fighter: Boyd (FE9) Archer: Betray-- I mean, Takumi (Rebecca is pretty close) (FE14/FE7) Myrmidon/Swordmaster: Owain (FE13) Ninja/Thief: Kaze/Matthew (FE14/FE7) Knight: Oswin (FE7) Wyvern Rider: Jill (FE9) Dancer: Ninian/Reyson (FE7/FE9) Beast Units: Kaden/Ranulf (FE14/FE9) Dragon Units: Tiki (FE11/FE13)
  3. Gray: There's no contest: mercenary. It patches up his rough speed stat and allows him to fulfill his role as a swift, front-and-center fighter (even if his defense is lacking). His lack of defense means he'll be squishy for soldier and he's only marginally better as Clive as a cavalier (imo). His spell list isn't great for a mage and, despite fixing the problem of his low defense, archer doesn't give him the speed to match his power (but it is a nice path after the Dread Fighter loop). Tobin: I've always preferred archer Tobin since he can poke units down with his decent power (not to mention he gets the skill for it). He doesn't have enough attack nor speed to function well in the mercenary line and, much with Gray, he gets outclassed as a cavalier or a soldier. While Physic is nice on a healer, it doesn't help Tobin's only two offensive spells (even if Excalibur is really good). Kliff: I ended up making him a cavalier my first time, but he didn't perform too well in my main campaign. Still, he has the potential to outperform Mathilda as a cavalier due to good bulk and speed (and good speed means a lighter penalty with stronger weapons). Mage is pretty obvious since he gets to learn a lot of spells (all but two) and having extra healers is always nice. With mercenary, Kliff's only selling point is very high speed; he lacks the attack growth to make good use, even with stronger weapons. Because of his speed, archer has potential, but with less attack than Python (if memory serves), he gets a little outclassed. Even having high speed won't save Kliff if he becomes a soldier (low attack on top of knights being the worst units in the game). Faye: Went with mage my first time through and...it sucked. She gets very few spells and lacks the speed to make use of her high attack. Cleric is obvious because she gets the highly coveted Physic and is the only healer to gain access to Rescue and Anew, the dancer-esque spell. Mathilda' existence makes Faye a useless cavalier and as a pegasus knight, her only real advantage over Clair is more damage. Atlas: I prefer to make him a mercenary to patch up his speed and let him run rampant with his high attack (he ended up surprisingly fast AND bulky on my first run). Archer can work considering he can do a lot of poke damage to enemies but it isn't my cup of tea thinking about it (especially since he becomes very similar to Leon). I don't think mage suits him because the buff guy would rather swing steel, not to mention the whole "do you want an overabundance of mercenaries or an overabundance of mages" issue (especially since most of the mages you get can outperform Mage!Atlas). Cavalier sucks because of the desert and the tang of slowing you down (not to mention the lack of speed) and soldier...don't. Valbar's bad enough as it is; there are too many witches running havoc on Celica's path to justify another slow, magically frail knight.
  4. I'd love to see another adventure mode appear in Smash. Subspace Emissary was flawed (story was expectedly sub-par, The Great Maze can go die in a fire, the boss fights were kinda fun if not slow at times, etc.) but I think they can easily improve on the idea with more intriguing levels, faster-paced boss fights with a "desperation" point (similar to Kirby bosses, because Sakurai), and cutting out the Dedede ex machina.
  5. Okay, the media tags aren't working in the previous post (I'm assuming I can only put two media tags for videos into one post) so I have to tri-post for this update. *hears crickets in the distance* ...I'm betraying the law for a good-- *ahem* Now it's possible to challenge me in the comments! EDIT:: July 15, 2016 Doga will choke points! ...once he's stronger.
  6. **This is mainly to keep the thread updated to avoid the risk of it going inactive** Finally recorded and uploaded episode 3. And, wow, do I sound whiny during the fight with the Team Aqua grunt... EDIT:: July 12, 2016 Last minute prep before tackling the gym. Next episode's going to be a bit interesting.
  7. Such dank. Much Ganon. Very disrespect. Wow ...yes, that was necessary. :P
  8. It is now time!!! Time to butcher even more words and names and fail to balance the audio volume with the video volume! Episode 1 of the Nuzlocke is a go! EDIT:: July 5, 2016 Second episode and the dog dies... That happened a lot sooner than I expected.
  9. I apologize in advance if this finds a better in home in "Other Game Drafts." I thought this would be a better spot since it's Pokemon-related. Anyway... When I first saw what a Nuzlocke was, I decided that I would never burden myself with it. However, Having played Pokemon Emerald for about ten years at this point, I wanted to go beyond "Mono-type" challenges. So, grinding my words to dust, it's time for... Pokemon Emerald "Merciless or Merciful" Nuzlocke!! I have never done a Nuzlocke before now, so this'll be interesting. So, what am I doing for this? Well, it's mostly a standard Nuzlocke, but with a "Roulette" twist to it. Here's the full rule list from my Notepad: Pokemon Emerald "Merciless or Merciful" Nuzlocke Rules: -Starter will be decided by the last digit of the Trainer ID [1-3=Treecko, 4-6=Torchic, 7-9=Mudkip, 0=Roll a Dice (1-2=Treecko, 3-4=Torchic, 5-6=Mudkip)] -Fainted Pokemon must be released or put in a "Graveyard" forever. -Only the first Pokemon found in each area can be caught. If the Pokemon faints or flees, no Pokemon can be caught in that area. This rule will not take effect until Poke Balls are obtained. -Give each Pokemon a nickname (treat this like Fire Emblem). -Whiting out equals a game over. Restarting from the last save is required at that point. The effects of the dice roll will still linger until the episode is over. -If a Pokemon encountered first in an area was caught in a previous area, another chance is granted to finding and catching a different Pokemon (pretending the encounter with the previously encountered 'mon never happened). -Shiny Pokemon can be revived or healed regardless of the rolled rule, but they have to be the VERY first encounter on a route and they must be ignored if the Pokemon was previously caught. They must still follow the "No Pokemon Center" restirction if that rule was rolled. -Evolved Pokemon found on future routes can be ignored if a previously caught Pokemon evolved into said evolution (evolving a Pokemon qualifies as having caught them). -The battle style must be "Set." -Each Gym Leader battle or May battle must be fought in equal numbers. The Elite Four is the ONLY exception to this rule, as the champion will have a full team of six Pokemon. -Special Rolled Rules: A six-sided die will be rolled before the start of each episode to decide the "special rule." The effect can be either positive or negative (this is where the "Merciless or Merciful" subtitle comes into play). The rules for each number are: 1: "Be Your Own Doctor" - No Pokemon Centers can be visited for the entire episode. 2: "Bifrost Staff" - Revives can be used (only one per Pokemon). 3: "I'm Afraid We're Out of Stock" - No items can be bought from Poke Marts. 4: "Return of the Einherjar" - Any Pokemon can be caught regardless of what's encoutered first on each route (even Shiny Pokemon). 5: "MEDIC!!" - No healing items may be used, but trips to the Pokemon Center are still allowed. 6: "I Am A Move Tutor" - TMs can be taught to Pokemon during the episode (they cannot be taught otherwise). HMs can still be taught regardless, especially if one is needed for game progression. -In addition to the special rules listed above, a second die will be rolled every 5th episode. These extra rules can either be extremely rewarding or unforgiving. The second die must be rolled for the Pokemon League regardless of the episode number. 1*: "Separated From Everyone..." - Only one Pokemon can be used during the episode. The chosen Pokemon will be my decision. 2*: "Let's See Some Squats, Ladies!" - All Pokemon levels will be raised by a randomly rolled number before the episode starts (1-6). They are immune to "death" during off-screen grinding and will be fully healed prior to the episode's beginning. 3*: "THIEF!!" - All items currently in the bag must be TOSSED, NOT SOLD!! Any items picked up along routes or bought from Poke Marts can be kept and used (restrictions from the first die still apply). 4*: "Aum Staff" - Revives can be used [only three per Pokemon (can stack with "Bifrost Staff")]. 5*: "Stealth Operation" - Optional trainers must be avoided for the enitre episode. Only boss trainers or trainer fights that absolutely CANNOT be avoided are allowed. If an optional trainer spots me, the save file must be reloaded ("killed" Pokemon will be usable again, but any Pokemon caught before resetting cannot be caught again). 6*: "Seize Them!" - All trainers found on a route, in a dungeon, or in a gym must be fought. No wild encounters can be escaped. Pokemon Center visits are restricted until all accessible trainers have been defeated. If the episode ends, this effect carries into the next episode. Trainers that can't be accessed will become exceptions until the means to reach them is acquired. They will be ignored if the episode ends before they can be reached. Here's the video detailing everything: Well...wish me luck!! I'm hoping to start this by the first of July. 10. The link to the bracket isn't working. Will it only be view-able when the tournament officially starts?
