  1. Smash Bros. did it for me, but it took me awhile before Fire Emblem became my favorite game series. However, it was my brother that suggested we buy it. He started playing it, and I got intrigued. Being only 11 years old, we struggled with how the game worked. Permadeath struck me hard. I began chapter 7 and was looking for Florina so I could fly over the mountains, but she fell in the previous chapter. Not seeing her in roster made me so angry, that I did not touch it for at least a year. I would try again one year later and make it all the way to Ch. 24 when Lloyd appeared. I got stuck on that chapter and couldn't progress. I left it again for another 6 months. I came back to Fire Emblem the 3rd time, and I finally started to get it. I made it all the way through endgame whilst losing at least 3 or 4 units along the way, and I came to love the story and the strategy. I became hooked on getting through with my whole unit surviving. It was very good timing, cause that was about when Path of Radiance was coming out, and the rest is history. Ironically, my brother, who first got the game, hasn't touched it since.
  2. I'm sure Boyd says a hearty thank you. Those shaky bases make him vulnerable to RNG screwage. My Boyd's are almost always speed troubled and the halberdiers in 3-5 like to double him. Poor Oscar. So inferior statwise. Dat Earth affinity though. I've paired him with Ike on hard mode, and the pair are currently ripping through the dragons of Endgame 3 as I type. Fortunately for the sake of balance, Oscar still can't kill most things in 2 hits, so the added speed means he does better chip damage as others catch up and his shaky defense can get a much needed BEXP boost, although not that it's needed with the Earth affinity.
  3. Agreed. Her bases are shaky, but those offensive growths are high and BEXP basically makes her a god. I, for one, do not put Resolve on mage units. I can't bring myself to put them in danger for fear of overestimating their capabilities. I usually give them the defensive skills, like Cancel or Vantage. Is Resolve replacing adept? I suppose it would make a more reliable means of doubling than adept, but at the same time forcing you to put him in danger. I guess I can come to terms with it. I think Mist has a ton of potential, but is short-handed by the way Elincia is stacked. She doesn't have flight or the almighty Amiti, preventing her from being as effective in healing or offense. I feel like Florete should be a counter part to Amiti and also have the brave effect. She should still be too fragile to make her overly offensive, but it should make her a more viable unit against Elincia and her Amiti, who if given an energy drop and reaching the appropriate speed landmark, can do 50+ damage Ashera's auras. I can't find data on Ashera's auras. So, I'm not sure if I can 4x with Amiti in hard mode like I can in normal, nor do I remember if Elincia had capped Spd and whether Mist's lower cap would make the difference. I may have had Elincia positioned next to Nasir as well. Point is, Elincia is way too stacked for Mist to be viable, so I guess I don't care what changes are made. :P
  4. True, but most of the units Marca handles in part 2 will be tier 1. She quickly grows SPD, but I like the proposal because it'll help smooth out her other stats with BEXP. Looking at her expected stat averages, assuming no BEXP abuse, she's only hitting 29 STR. Although, actually her spread doesn't look too horrendous. Taking her to level 1 might work, but may make her capable of hitting all her stat caps. It just struck me how humorous the concept of base discipline is on Makalov. Now that's irony.
  5. I had recently discovered your last list as I was starting hard mode in Radiant Dawn. Love the idea. It's always fun to speculate what could be. I love Radiant Dawn, but it's a hot balancing mess, and there are so many units that one wishes could be in the spotlight, but doing so is just one big domino. Writing on my phone, so it's a bit harder to find quotes and what not, so sorry if these go back a bit. Agreed on Leonardo being surprisingly useful in Part 3. Maybe give his special bow a beast slaying property, but that might be over the top. It'd get him past his slump and make him a better killing engine. Not digging the changes to Jill. I've had some awful Jills. She has problems with HP and STR, but I think Dawn Brigade chapters have 2 seraph robes and 1 energy drop. It may be best to take out that energy drop to make it so that if your Jill gets strength screwed, there's no fixing it until late game. Love the changes to Zihark. I feel it'd help a lot, without changing the role he fulfills in the Dawn Brigade. As for Kieran, he's hard to balance. Boosts from PoR can make him a pretty decent unit and cover any balancing, but his caps will do him in. I really like him though. Agree with Marcia as well. Her SPD is terrible, and it'll help smooth things with BEXP. I feel +5 SPD is generous to Makalov. If PoR bonuses are accounted for, he would have capped speed off the bat making his speed growth kind of a moot point till he promotes. Calill is a tough one. She can easily catch up with Paragon. Rexflame gives the oh so desirable +3 speed, so I don't see much need for balancing her. She's already pretty well in the middle.
  6. I haven't met anyone, at least not knowingly. Then again, I'm a lurker online and a recluse offline, so I'd have to make the effort. I see some people play Fire Emblem around campus and through StreetPass, but have never worked up the gumption to meet them.
  7. Haha, that's fantastic. Suicide criticals happen far too often. Pretty much anyone with Wrath in Radiant Dawn is also susceptible (looking at you Edward). I've positioned units to take on a few opponents they couldn't ORKO, but then get a level up with STR or SPEED and start doubling or getting ORKOs. On defensive maps in can be devastating.
  8. Recently, I've been playing Radiant Dawn's hard mode for the first time. For the most part, things have been going well, but on 3-13, I had what would normally be considered convenient turn very sour. Tauroneo was set up with a steel lance as part of my 3 man wall against the incoming laguz with the idea that they can dish out some damage and then a long range unit behind them finishes them off and the front line heals. This was working great until about turn 9, when on the enemy phase Tauroneo lands a critical. Awesome, that's one less and he's still got plenty of HP. A cat comes up, and I'm thinking great, he can't double those and he won't take much damage, he is safe. Well, he procs another crit. Well now, I'm getting worried. If a Tiger comes up, then he is dead. Another cat comes up, and I breath a sigh of relief, only for him to land a 3rd critical hit! At this point, anything would kill him, and of course the Tiger comes up to deliver the death blow. This unfortunate strings of RNG would normally be considered great, minus the death part. This got me wondering, what are some of your most hilarious moments where a good draw from the RNG turned out to be your greatest nightmare?
  9. Well, it is finished. I probably play radiant dawn very inefficiently. I find most of the Laguz units pointless in the face of royalty, so I end up selling their stones and pointless skills so I can get the special items in Aimee's shop throughout the game :P. I usually have a well established team, and then units that I try out so I'm not playing the game without changing anything up. So I often make some questionable unit/support choices in the name of changing things up rather than going for an optimal set up.
  10. I'll get through it. In all 3 cases, it's been pretty much my fault for misplacing a unit. I just needed a moment to vent when I was 2 turns away from victory the second time around.
  11. Yeah, I didn't plan this all too well. I'm just not accustomed to having a Jill who can only do 9 damage at a time to enemies. Kieran sticks left to deal with stragglers. Marcia and Naesala rip through the southern army. Jill and Sigrun are usually left with rescue duty since they aren't properly trained. Nolan and Aran go right, micaiah and Laura run back and forth with restore and physic staffs. Everyone else is basically just there for taking and dropping rescued units from Jill/Sigrun. Kieran is only here cause I paired him with Marcia for supports.
  12. I know I'm not one to frequently enter the forums, but I need a moment for the understanding to rant about Chapter 4-3. I've cleared this chapter many times, but this one chapter (and the Endgame part 3 of course) are the ones that consistently result in a unit death. Nearly 10 years later, I still can't fathom why the team at Intelligent System decided to make the Dawn Brigade as frail as humanly possible. The RNG has worked especially hard to make sure this playthrough is more atypical than the average playthrough. Jill has sworn off strength and defense, only gaining each 3 times in 21 level ups aside from promotional gains. Edward has refused to gain defense or HP, having a defense of 11 after 30 level ups, and then Nolan who also seems to hate the concept of strength with less than 30 as a level 6 Reaver. Sothe is as useless as always, leaving only a passable Nolan and an unusually speedy Aran. I've carried over Kieran and Marcia, but Kieran is moving nowhere, and Marcia is susceptible to crossbow users. Death one has occurred by a potshot critical to Micaiah from the sniper with a killer bow with a grand total of a 3% chance. I got unusually lucky when I misplaced Leanne and she dodged two eminent death attacks from a dracoknight with a 70% chance of landing the two hits, but Edward and his feeble defense lost it when I forgot about the dracoknights that appear near the start and the RNG decided he was unfit for dodging two hits ~30%. This chapter is truly what dreams are made of. -End Rant.
  13. So not coming back on for awhile almost turned out to be a whole year...

  14. I may not really be on that often until October or so

  15. French Silk Pie. Mmmmmmm I prefer hot tea over coffee. I never get coffee when people want to go to Starbucks, so I get hot chocolate.
