  1. I saw some discussion about Alvis and unless prompted I'm not going to get into it deeply right at this time, but Alvis is absolutely nothing like Edelgard. Their stories are also completely different as people. The only similarities are the whole Flame Emperor and evil dark cult things going on. I've written about it before and I'll grab that text if prompted, but their character arcs are completely opposite of each other. Their behavior, attitudes, general characters, stories, arcs and relationships are also nothing alike. As one super big example, Alvis recognized his mistakes and made a last effort to see peace restored through Celice. He accepted his death if Celice was strong enough to kill him, even hiding Tyrfing for years to give to him. As soon as Celice's army was nearby, he gave Palmark the Tyrfing to give to Celice. Alvis was willing to die for the world he envisioned. He entrusted his ideals to someone else. On the other hand, Edelgard would never, ever entrust her ideals to the other lords of her game. Even when it was completely clear that Dimitri's intentions were good and that he wanted change in the world as well in Azure Moon (and Dimitri had similar thoughts as Edelgard with the whole Crest system and yadda yadda), Edelgard refused to yield. She was never willing to die for the sake of her new world and didn't feel she could entrust her vision of a new world to anyone else. Instead, she was trying to crush all opposition (even including neutral territories). Her belief seemed to be that it had to be her, specifically, who brought about this change. In contrast, Alvis sided specifically with the opposition because the opposition felt the same way he did. He gave his supposed enemy the means to defeat him. In all routes of Three Houses, Edelgard never does this - she remains consistently opposed to all other territories across each route (meaning there are no gaps in her character that would make her comparable to Alvis in even one route because she, as a character as well as throughout her arc, remain consistent). Basically, Alvis saw a future in Celice's reign and entrusted the future he hoped for to Celice. Edelgard could have done the same thing but never did, and nor did she ever want to. Both of them wanted one nation, sure - but Alvis wanted to unify the continent and destroy all prejudice of bloodlines so that even people with Lopt blood could live in his new world (he even stated in gen 1 that he had no problem with the Lopt Sect existing, but he wasn't going to allow them to do harm. In other words, he wasn't going to allow the Sect to be destroyed just for simply existing because that would be hypocritical to his ideals for a new world lacking prejudiced). Edelgard wanted to conquer the continent and have the Children of the Goddess fully removed from power, and also is against dragons having power over humanity (which is a very stark contrast to Jugdral, who view the dragons as gods and see the weapons given to them by those dragons as holy and blessed). Edelgard expresses not wanting the Crest system in place and wants to change it, whereas Alvis is content with the holy bloodlines remaining as they are. Simply put, the holy bloodlines aren't viewed as problematic like Crests are - rather, they're respected and the inheritors are royalty/nobility, which is accepted in Jugdral. In Fodlan, the Crest systems becomes more and more questionable throughout the game (and most presently expressed in CF and AM, which are meant to be two sides of the same coin imo through Edelgard and Dimitri). When Edelgard conquered Fodlan, there was opposition and war going on for five straight years and many, many characters hated her rule. Alvis' rule was considered peaceful for over a decade until the Lopt Sect took over and let the blame fall to Alvis instead while running around him and making it seem like he was okay with it. Right from the start, Edelgard allied with TWSITD but planned to destroy them in the end, whereas Alvis never actually allied with the Lopt Sect - he just wasn't going to destroy the Sect initially because they hadn't done anything wrong yet at the time. Granted, they both have the whole Sect thing going on, but even those situations are vastly different. YEAH I SAID I WASN'T GOING TO GET TOO DEEPLY INTO IT but oh well. I mean, this is like a small portion of what I've written before about them, but basically Alvis and Edelgard are on two completely opposite ends of the new world spectrum. Their situations also differ far too much (ex. Crests and holy bloodlines).
  2. Tried editing that post and it wouldn't edit even though it was under five minutes old so I'll just drop this here: When I was saying Leaf would have to be born the earliest month into the year that was worded oddly - it was meant more as an easy example. He could have been born at any point in the year as could Faval have been, but it would still have to be within the same year (i.e. Faval would have to have his 16th birthday before Leaf turned 17) which is what I find unlikely based on the manga's story and timeline. I just basically take the ages with a grain of salt because I find the timeline a bit... unreliable. But then also, between FE4 and FE5, the timeline is unreliable between the two anyway, so. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
  3. Which I get, but I mean more that the manga ages claim to go by FE5 and don't accurately. Again, as an example, Sety in FE5 states he's older than Leaf when speaking with him (in this case it makes more sense to say Sety is younger in the manga because he was clearly born after Leaf, but that means it's not consistent with FE5 like it claims to be). Leaf is also fifteen in FE5 - not sixteen. He's sixteen in FE4. As far as Faval goes in the manga itself, it states Faval is of an age that would mean he was literally born within the same year as Leaf, and Brigid wasn't pregnant or even in a relationship yet by the time Leaf was born. If he's the same age as Leaf, he would just barely be and it would mean Brigid and Dew moved really fast post war... and that also assumes Leaf was born extremely early on into the year because pregnancy alone takes nine months. That gives Faval three months to be the same age as Leaf (if Leaf was born the earliest possible time of the year) if Brigid was pregnant as soon as Leaf was born... which she wasn't, making that window even smaller. I get what you're saying, but I mean instead that the manga is just inconsistent with ages based both upon what it claims to be based off of (FE5) and even within its own context. If you don't know what I'm referring to, check pages 160-161 of volume nine. Based on the overall ages on that spread, the ages are more consistent toward FE4's gameplay than FE5's story, and then you have some pairs that clearly had children after the war in the manga like Azel and Tiltyu, who already had both kids before the end of the game's gen 1 when paired together. In update news... Lapis has finals this month so CoD will be helping us with chapter 69, but other than a few double spreads that CoD will be doing we're almost done with chapter 69 and I've finished my parts for chapter 70 as well as begun work on chapters 71 and 72 (which are now fully translated as well). For now, here's a page of the coming chapter because why not.
  4. The manga isn't exactly the same as the game in that sense, but I think they're still only about a year apart in the game too. The end of volume nine has the age chart for the manga. In this case Arthur and Tinny weren't born yet before the Battle of Barhara, but in the game they were (in Azel and Tiltyu's lover conversation in chapter five of the game, Azel tells her to take care of the kids). Granted, the ages are a little funky in the manga too. Leaf is older than Sety but FE5's game states it's the other way around. Then somehow Faval is sixteen even though Leaf is stated to be sixteen and Leaf was born before the attack in Yied but Faval wasn't born yet then, and Brigid wasn't even with Dew yet at the time. I could understand Leaf and Sety considering the manga isn't exactly like the games, but then... the manga says "as far as years go, Thracia 776's setting takes precedence. We've contacted Intelligent Systems so the ages in the Oosawa version wouldn't have any inconsistencies". And then... looking at Sety and Leaf's ages that's already not the case. So yeah, I've learned to take ages in the manga with a grain of salt. ^^;
  5. I also liked it delving into Tinny's story in that sense! We weren't shown him being captured. The guard mentions he lost the battle (when he said he had behaved the whole time and laughed that losing the battle shocked him that much), so that could mean either he fought them after Liza died and lost and was captured, or he was too distraught after losing her to fight back and essentially lost the battle when she lost her battle. It ends up being used for things in the coming chapters though, so you'll see that soon!
  6. 😂 I'm glad it gave you such a good day. 2020's been wild so far but at least we started up on the manga again.
  7. Chapter 68 is up! I know some of the pages have noticeable blurs on them - those are different from spine blurs and they happen during scanning for some reason. I’m not sure why, but this particular scanner has been doing that for a while now and I never knew why or how to fix it (I redid a lot of scans because of them when they started happening, but they kept happening even on a lot of rescans). Someday maybe I’ll go back and fix those, but it’ll be a long time from now because that would require redoing entire pages. I needed a new scanner cord at the time I finished the pages (I have it now but I didn't at the time), which is why I didn’t fix them before doing the pages. For now this is what I have so it’s what I’m using to avoid extending the wait.
  8. Chapter 67 is up! It's in the usual spot in the OP. Chapter 68 is very close to finished and will hopefully be up very soon. Chapters 69 and 70 are also already in progress. Once we catch up to the translations @LeifOfLeonsterTranslations has finished for us, I'm not sure what our speed will look like, but I'll continue cleaning pages with my cleaners in the meantime. This is the last chapter TheEnd translated before LOLT's work, so we'll be crediting future chapters as such. I mean, I can, but they'll be released with the volume anyway when it's done. If you guys want a separate version of those by themselves in the meantime I can zip them together and upload them, but I don't know if I'll end up putting them on the OP because they're not technically a chapter.
  9. Just as an example from an uncleaned scan of mine: Idk, I felt like a fool not using names that were already written down lol. I did originally want to use Levn because of it but I had talked to the team at the time about it because I know basically nobody really knew that version of the name, so in the end it's the only one we didn't use. As for Holyn, that's a personal preference for a few reasons (not like it matters in this manga though haha... ha... Holyn my good man...). Just something I have a leaning toward is all. 😊
  10. All chapters we've done so far are in the first post of the thread, as well as any details pertaining to what's there (or not there such as in the current case). That post is updated every chapter or when I need to put certain information updates there. As a bit of a mild update: Lapis is almost done with chapter 67's cleaning, though most of the work she has left are double spreads and she's new to cleaning manga so I hope you can all be patient with her. For being new to this her work has been fantastic, and imo the quality we're working toward is worth the small extra wait. As much as I could get these out a bit faster, the quality would take a nosedive on some pages. Chapter 68 is almost completely finished - it really shouldn't be long at all after chapter 67 that we get it out. I need Lapis for a very tiny portion of that chapter and the rest is already completed. While waiting on these chapters I've begun work on chapter 69 and have a chunk of it also completed. It probably won't be long before I get working on chapter 70. Other good news is I'm probably getting a tablet soon, which means I don't need to leave my other cleaners with all the heavy lifting. Hopefully we'll get at least up to chapter 70 out relatively quickly as a... sorry for the horrendously long wait + most of us are still in quarantine special.
  11. Thank you! 😊 You actually dropped that message just as me and Lapis were working on it. :P I actually did locate the unfinished page in my files, so if I can track down the translation we had for it (I should be able to) I can finish the page. It's not really a big plot point so much as the introduction to Aira's feelings about the battle and that Langbart wants to face her alone/one-on-one. I do remember finishing the whole page before, so I have no idea what ended up happening to the completed version. I'm not sure if you've seen the OP's changed details since then, but basically because I was unable to access the Mega account where the chapters were for a period of time, accounts on Mega eventually become deemed inactive and after so many days the account's data is wiped (re-activating accounts doesn't restore the data). That was why you couldn't access any of the files, and I was originally going to edit the chapters before putting them back up, but since we can move forward now instead, I'm putting edits on the back burner, no FE4 pun intended. I'll fix chapter 44 before I go back and do those edits though since I was able to find an incomplete version of the page backed up.
  12. Thank you! Yes - that's the first page of the coming chapter. As of now 67 and 68 are almost done (and 69 has been started). We've been a little held back because Lapis is dealing with a lot of school related circumstances due to the current world situation, but she's almost finished with that and in the meantime I've been working on both chapters and 69. We'll release one first, but it shouldn't be too long before the next one follows. In a month Lapis will be free from school business entirely though! That should free us up a lot. LOL yes, I'm very committed. This project will get done. I've been intending to finish it from the moment I started it. If life hadn't thrown such massive curve balls at me and CoD, we wouldn't have needed to put it off for so long. As far the names, that's a no - for two reasons. One, it would take a lot of time and work to go back and edit every single solitary instance of a name being mentioned. Two, I'm specifically using Oosawa's names which are romanized at the end of volume thirteen - hence why I chose to go with Teeny and Phee over Tinny and Fee, for example. The names I'm using are, again, in this instance, specifically related to Oosawa's usage of the names, which are in fact the correct romanization of the names. The names we're using for this manga aren't mistranslated but are actually the official names in JP. There were other names I'd wanted to use - some such as Aideen, Brigid and Midir for example - but I decided against it for this manga specifically (also in part for a bit more consistency with Holsety Scans, since they'd been using Adean, Briggid and Midayle in those cases). In future releases outside Oosawa, some names will likely be a little different, but not all of them (anthologies and 4komas and such). Some fan translations weren't correct but saw a lot of use, for example, such as Levin being used instead of Levn. That's actually the one name I kept for this manga over the official one only because I know Levin was basically the known version among the fandom rather than Levn. Tinny was also a mistranslation that was more commonly used over Teeny (which I also prefer Tinny to Teeny), so in some instances the mistranslations are more widely known and liked. As far as using localized names in future projects, there will be some, but not all. I'm sorry but nothing under the sun or moon will get me to use Chulainn over Holyn. I guess it'll be kind of a mix? But yeah, some fan translated names didn't match the JP versions in the end and I don't use many of those names for this project. Actually, Midir was incorrectly fan translated too because Midayle was the romanization, but we also started this project before Heroes came out. Unfortunately Heroes has also previously changed names before (FE6's Thea for example was originally something else before her release, and they changed Hawk to Hawke and then, this past CYL, back to Hawk), so in the event it happens again I'm not going to want to edit everything to match the current version. TL;DR we won't be changing names for this manga at this point because it's a lot of tedious work to edit pages in that way (I edit pages, but it's usually related to cleaning and typesetting). There are some names I would've preferred too but chose not to use them for this when we began, but you'll see some changes in future projects if you ever happen to follow those. Not everything will match localizations, but you'll see some of them. For Oosawa, it's just too much to go back and edit things now (such as if say, I chose to go with Midir - editing every mention of him is honestly a lot of work and some spots will probably be missed. At this point imo it's better to leave it than to have instances of Midir and Midayle pop up in the same chapter, you know? That for every single name change is... whew). Thank you for reading though - it's much appreciated!
  13. Tbh yeah, I can see why it's a space issue but the original game also had space issues that got content cut, so I like seeing other takes from different media. With SNES limitations I feel like we lost a good few possibilities that are handled pretty well in other media. It's like seeing all the things you don't get in one media form put into another, and collectively, you get everything. Imo all the things you see in modern FE games are within the Jugdral universe even if it's all a little separated. Will do if anything comes up that I think of along the way!
  14. Thank you! I also hope it will be completed and that's been my intention from the start, despite the massive length of time in hiatuses we've had to take. I'm really hoping it will work out similar to how it used to with our updates. I've been training new cleaners while working on my own share, so hopefully the next couple of chapters will be up soon. Why do I say next couple? Because I'm insane enough to work on two chapters at once. Have some Fin goodness from the chapter after next while you wait!
  15. I was admittedly a little unsure about how I'd feel about the novels, but they've been so good up to what I've read. I'm definitely gonna catch up on them because they're so interesting, and I also love all the translator notes you leave!
  16. Hi guys! Here's the deal for this manga: We've gotten a translator in the team who has been doing work for FE for a long time (and has been working on the novels). We're currently at chapter 70 in translation (in other words, the next volume is almost fully translated), but it's the cleaning and redrawing of pages that's kept us held down. We do have cleaners, but if you have interest in helping clean you can message me, but otherwise we're set to go! I'll be updating the SF forum page as well as we go (we're working on it as I type this). Edit: (image below) I'm trying lol. Also, uh, the font might be... bigger than before? I'm honestly not sure and doing this on a laptop is a lot different than doing this on a desktop tbh so I'm sorry if the font is like, huge or something compared to before. I keep feeling like I'm using a much larger size in the font than I did before but on my end on a laptop it doesn't look that way, so I? have no? idea?
  17. I don't think it makes them obsolete per se so much as... people generally seem to ignore the older versions if they weren't already a fan. Rarely do I see people actually care to go back and try out the older versions the games. It's a big reason why I'm very against more remakes, and on top of it all, FE1 and 3's remakes weren't very well received in sales or popularity by the fandom, and SoV hasn't done great either compared to the other 3DS titles and then the follow up title i.e. Three Houses. No remake from this franchise has really done all that great and yet it still kind of "replaces" the older versions in a sense, which makes them feel pretty... left in the dust, I guess. Imo it just kind of leaves the shine of the originals far off in a corner where most FE players won't even look at them nowadays. Some people are willing to try the games out if they don't have a remake, but if they do, people tend to lean toward the remakes and not the originals. While I wouldn't mind remastered versions of the games with some minor tweaks here and there, full on remakes are something I could never get behind for this franchise. They've done virtual releases over and over so I don't see why they can't just continue doing that. I can understand that the first two games can be a little difficult to manage because of for example the lack of visibility in a character's movement spaces and it's harder to determine battle outcomes, but that's where I'd prefer just a remaster that updates those things and doesn't really remake the game. TL;DR the remakes definitely at the very least overshadow the originals and in a lot of ways replace them. Most times if not every time, the remakes become the new canon to the respective saga instead of the canons for each being separated by game.
  18. Thank you! It's definitely been a very rough past year for me and getting things straightened out took time and wasn't easy. I wanted to do things for the manga and I guess with everything going on my motivation kind of fizzled out for a while once I was actually able to. I was going to try to continue cleaning while we had no translator and then things happened... I did get some of it done, but like I said, that was on my desktop which doesn't help at all at the moment. I ultimately decided not to show previews of the cleaned pages because of the lack of overall activity and I didn't want to get anyone's hopes up that we were more active than we actually were. I might in the future, but I don't want to say that right now as a guarantee because of what happened last time. I do feel bad for mentioning I was planning to do certain things that I ultimately couldn't get done so I wouldn't be surprised if some of these more recent updates fall on deaf ears/people don't actually expect anything. All I can really say is we're trying and I hope something comes of it. Thanks for sticking around and enjoying what we've done so far! I hope we can continue soon now that things are slowly moving back in a positive direction. --- Edit: For everyone, please read the OP. I'm working to fix this so hopefully the chapters will be back up soon. Thank you.
  19. It wasn't a chapter update. The update was what I posted. It was just an information update about what's going on since we've had some progress even if it's been slow going. I'm just trying to avoid going radio silent so nobody thinks I've just disappeared and that the project is dead or something.
  20. Hm? An update? Ye. An update. I've passed the next section of chapters off to a translator not too long ago. We currently only have the last chapter of volume eleven translated, but the pages aren't cleaned yet. As far as cleaning goes, it's a little bit of a mess on my end because long story short, my desktop started crapping out around August and I haven't been able to get into it for a few months (and I'm not talking easy-solution-virus-removal-somehow, I'm talking something in the hardware is hella crapping out and it is an old computer). Unfortunately it seems my last backup of the chapters goes back to the first chapter of volume eleven as far as finished chapters/cleaned pages. This also means the pages I had cleaned and ready for typesetting are still on my desktop, which means I have no access to them. Either I'm gong to have to reclean them or I'm going to have wait until I can get into my hard drive and get those pages, because chances are I'm going to want to start cleaning before I get a new desktop (because tbh at this point in time I have no idea when that will be). We were also going to work on chapters 36 and 37 to have a full version of volume six, and I had all my pages of those chapters cleaned and ready as well, but I'd have to recheck if those got backed up. I'm pretty sure my fonts are backed up though. Part of why I haven't cleaned any pages since losing accessibility to the desktop is the fact that I've never liked working on cleaning (or even typesetting tbh) on the laptop. I do have a mouse connected to it now though which helps a lot, so worst case scenario with no other options, I'll try to clean on the laptop. The other problem is that I'm hoping my color levels won't make things look too different on another monitor. Unfortunately that's something that bothers me. A lot. You'd think life was specifically getting in my way so that I couldn't work on this thing. All I can say is that yes, there's been minor progress. Well, maybe a lot? Having a translator is kind of a big step forward to working on this again, but also, losing access to my desktop is a big step backward. Thankfully I'm currently in a bit of a Fire Emblem mindset so that might help, and I have spilled my guts over Alvis again recently so that also helps. Alvis always helps. Does this mean the manga is currently back on? Well, not quite yet. We've been taking some serious baby steps these past few months. Will it be? Boy do I hope so. The past year has been terrible in terms of wanting to and/or trying to and falling short. Hopefully that won't be the case this year.
  21. Yes, the story goes beyond that. We just haven't gotten farther in the translation process than what you see here. I've been in contact recently with a potential translator but the person in question has some irl stuff to take care of first. If they can accept this project with us, hopefully we can get back on track.
  22. I'm speaking to my cleaners today about going forward with cleaning. This will be the case for both the FE4 and FE5 manga, but for each, we only have a single chapter left that's translated. That means we can do one release for both until we have a translator again. Unfortunately I haven't really known where to start looking for one, so if anyone has any suggestions, I'll look around accordingly. In the future I'll probably continue editing older chapters for better quality, but that's a bridge to cross when I come back to it. Once the translated chapters are released, I'll make do in the time being with cleaned page/panel previews if we don't have a translator by then. Pages have been cleaned since last summer, but they're a little out of order because different people have been working on different chapters. All in all, it's slow, but it's progress.
  23. Update!: Okay so normally I wouldn't make a double post BUT I want to update y'all because it's been so long. The projects we were doing aren't exactly canceled. I know we've had to go on a lot of hiatuses and I suppose we'd have to consider this length to be one too. Due to life circumstances I couldn't work on the manga, but even once that was cleared away I had to consider that we don't presently have a translator. Nothing bad happened; TE just had other interests and that's fine. Overall most of my team members have seemed to need a break from FE in general, myself mostly included. If the chance arises and we get the team members necessary to continue the project, I would be more than happy to continue with releases. Technically we still do have a chapter we could work on, and I'll speak to my cleaners about that and future cleaning. While I did initially plan to continue cleaning the portions I could and posting some previews, not only was I unable to for a period of time, but by the time I could I no longer had the drive to do so. I've thought about the manga a lot recently though and it's definitely something I'd like to revive, I guess you could say. There's still plenty about it left that I enjoy and would like to get out. This will still require a translator, so I'll look around a bit again and see what I can do about cleaners/the cleaners in the team currently. Reminder if anyone does want to help out with cleaning, I'm willing to train people. If you're a translator or know one who might be interested, feel free to let me know. I know translators for the newer games are easier to come by. But basically, I haven't forgotten about these projects for this team or this manga. It's been in the back of my mind often. I can't be sure I'll get back to it right away, but I have no problem discussing it with people interested in helping out with it and working to get it going again. <3
  24. They weren't included at all. Alvis' battle is the last we get. I agree that Hilda could have been beneficial to the plot. Having an actually irredeemable villain would actually help get the gray morality across with other villains/antagonists. It's unfortunate we actually lost a potentially great arc dealing with all that. I'll message you with details as soon as I find the time and try to cover everything we need. Foremost we need redrawing capability though, and/or dealing with texture covering, replacement and filling, to cover the super basics of what we're in the biggest need of. Even if you can do one and not the other, let me know and I'll see what we can do! Thanks for the offer, too! EDIT 12/17/18: Available again for cleaning. Situation mostly straightened out. Will be semi active again for now while things are figured out with this series!
  25. The final chapter of the game is mixed in with chapter ten of the game in the manga. Events from both are basically squashed together in one volume, with the exception of the final battle or a battle against Manfloy. Ishtar's motivations at that point are based more on Yurius in the manga since Hilda isn't there for that. Oosawa did probably more than one could expect mashing two chapters' worth of game story into one volume, but yeah, there's a lot missing from the Miletos arc because of the lack of the Hilda arc. You're welcome! Cleaning is the only thing we're otherwise in need of besides translators, so if you ever want to learn to do cleaning, we can assist with that. I've taught a few people who were interested, so if you ever are, just drop me a message and we can work something out.
