  1. Happy birthday!

  2. Don't like the connotations of "beating into," but whatever. I don't think I'll be the one saying weird stuff, but you've got to remember who your primary audience is. Serenes members will destroy you over tiny errors that honestly don't matter (sorry, but it's true), but your main audience won't bat an eye. Just emphasizing that because depending how you handle corrections, you can hurt the atmosphere and call attention to the error. Unless it's grievous (the class thing from earlier would definitely qualify), I'd recommend changing subjects quickly instead. Your call, of course. Hopefully we get another session in today to iron out some more. If nothing else, I think we can highly simplify some explanations. But yeah, this will be great no matter what. I look forward to throwing out random stuff to throw off your rhythm. :P
  3. I saw a couple Nintendo Power cartridges in Super Potato a couple months ago, and now I kind of wish I had bought them. They were $30 each, so if you happen to know someone near Akihabara... Just throwing it out there to be cruel, I guess. :P Proxy buying probably would be the way to go here, because even Japan Game Stock doesn't seem to have loose Nintendo Power cartridges anymore. Those were about $75 years ago. Now they just have a loose ROM version for about $120 and a boxed copy for $170. Maybe something to consider if you don't have any luck with Amazon or proxy buyers.
  4. Happy Birthday, sorry for being late.

  5. Thanks everyone. I'm a bit late, but getting back home in time for a three hour nap before work didn't leave much time for a proper response. :P I won't pretend to know all the details, but when I spoke to Mike right after Sacred Stones ended, I got the impression that he just meant no Fire Emblem runs from Bertin (for a while?). I think that's a reasonable decision to make considering the circumstances. Axing the guy's suggestions completely from now on would be total overkill, so I think he'll just be more cautious when Bertin makes suggestions. If you want a more specific quote, Mike told me something along the lines of, "If there's another choice between Fire Emblem games, I'll just give it to you." Worth noting because I think this bodes well for Mike's opinion of Fire Emblem's future in marathons. I'd obviously vouch for Vykan and dondon's abilities if either of them suggest a game for a future marathon, so if (for some odd reason) that obstacle ever comes up, it can easily be dealt with. :)
  6. Oh, I should've mentioned that. It's Eastern Standard Time.
  7. It's confirmed that I have an early slot in bonus stream to show off the Rekka run, if anybody still cares. The first thing I plan to do is correct some of the statements made in the commentary for Sacred Stones, because I know everybody is up in arms about that. For the record, I tried to correct some of that during the stream, but I wasn't on the couch and didn't have a microphone. Nobody cared about what I had to say. :( But yeah, hopefully I can get a clean run so that the series has a chance in future marathons. My run is completely memorized and all that, so I can practically guarantee something in the 1:3x range. My personal best game time is 1:27:xx now, so if I can beat that in this run, I'll be really pleased. My route has changed a bit since I uploaded the test run to YouTube, so some of it should be new to people. I can't give an exact time estimate on when the run will happen, but it's safe to assume it'll be on or before 1:30 PM. My best guess would be around noon. Regardless, I hope everybody here will show their support so we can get some more Fire Emblem games in future marathons. (I disagree that 10 is a good choice, by the way. 6 or 9 would be much wiser to suggest, in my opinion.)
  8. Heh, I just signed in specifically to post this topic. Good to see that there's interest already and I didn't have to do anything. Actually, my route for Rekka doesn't involve that much RN burning. I try to do things in a certain order to minimize direct manipulation. It's sometimes faster that way and it's more entertaining to watch. I didn't know Vykan ran Rekka though. What's his time? My record right now is something like 1:29:30 or so. But yeah, donate for 7. I'm totally not biased though. :P
  9. Are you sure about that? I know Ultima Garden has a segmented 4:28:57, and if that's the same run I've seen videos from, it looks pretty good. (Slightly more on-topic: Why don't you be my Rekka marathon route helper instead, Toothache? You know you want to!) [Edit]: Didn't see the 3:58 listed on the RTA wiki. That one is recent too (7/11/2013).
  10. Yeah, the difficulty isn't bad for Langrisser IV. The worst thing I remember was facing any enemy with a bunch of Nixies, which seemed grossly overpowered. Sea terrain bonus, decent speed, and a strong ranged attack just wasn't fun at all. It could just be that I was terrible at the game back then, since it's been a while. From what I've heard about the Playstation version of IV though, I pity anybody playing it instead of the Saturn original. I read that the soundtrack took a hit and apparently forcing V's battle system into IV without any changes broke more things than it should have. Haven't tried the Playstation version to confirm it, but it sounds nasty. Would be worth picking up the Playstation version of V one day though, since that one has a (much needed?) Hard mode. Maybe on Hard mode there will be an actual reason to use a character not named Sigma. :P Anyway, about IV, I've always been a big fan of Listell. She's an added bonus since by default Chaos routes are my favorite and the C route isn't that bad either. It's a little disappointing how short the B route is, but I love the option to say "screw you" to all your goody-goody friends. Actually, I think that's one of the things I really like about Der Langrisser and IV. Being able to turn on your Light path friends is good, because when you really think about what they are doing, they don't seem like the good guys anymore. (This is why the Independent path for Der Langrisser is great. Rejecting both sides' claims about "the other side is pure evil" is a good thing. I'm biased though, because I'm a sucker for "how could you" responses.) Also, no Langrisser topic would be complete without mentioning how bad III is. Don't play it unless you're masochistic. :(
  11. Happy Birthday!!! (again)

  12. Happy birthday =o

  13. If you have a flip-top or slide card, just get Free McBoot. Go to uLaunchELF, put in a retail Playstation disc for your region, have uLaunchELF stop the disc for you (enable disc control), remove the disc without using the open button, put in Tear Ring Saga, and go back to the browser or launch directly from there. The game will run fine that way because it thinks you're playing one of your normal games. I don't know if the boot disc matters, but Chrono Cross disc 1 has always worked for me. It's a fairly cheap method, since the only cost involved is the swap method if you have a Playstation game handy.
