Rank Fire Emblem Villains From Least To Most Moral
dragonlordsd replied to Jotari's topic in General Fire Emblem
The impression I got about Ashera is that if it hadn't been for Sephiran, literally nothing would have happened. Like, she didn't want to destroy everyone, she just laid down rules that basically amounted to "don't be evil". And while I wouldn't say she was "good" exactly, for the most part, people were able to follow those rules with no problems for like, 1,000 years. But yeah, Loptyr is pure evil. Unlike Medeus, Duma, or even Ashnard, there's no... excuse? for what he does. He's just pure, cold evil. And unlike Grima, there's a more... personal touch to Loptyr. Like, he's not just pure destruction, he's also about cruelty and torment. -
Nintendo Direct 9/4 Wishes and Speculation

Well, here's some bad news on persona for the switch: https://jackofallcontrollers.com/2019/08/31/sony-interactive-entertainment-says-persona-exclusivity-is-very-important-to-them/ This article was from 3 days ago. I mean, this isn't a definite no, but it seems Sony will fight to keep persona off of nintendo. That said, given that nintendo has claimed ownership over mainline smt (they've gotten exclusivity on all of the mainline titles since nocturne, including remakes) we'll see what Atlus decides. -
Plus it's super easy to reclass to warmaster for dudes and grab quick riposte, which not only guarantees counter attacks for you, but negates enemy follow up attacks. They can also grab wrath off of warrior and stack it with defiant crit from wyvern lord, though that's actually not very practical. @Flere210 Right, I can see that. And it would make sense... except they can dismount. So they can just fly over to a forest, dismount, and keep the avoid +10. Also, most of the late game maps have no positive terrain, so there's no disadvantage there.

Nintendo Direct 9/4 Wishes and Speculation

Nah, we'd know if it was cancelled. It was mentioned in an interview in, like May, that it was still in development, but that the team was struggling to work with the switch. As far as I can tell, I think it's just having a lot of technical issues. I'd be VERY surprised at Persona 5 Switch after the P5S disaster. Not because I think Persona 5 would be difficult to port, but mostly because there's been no indication Atlus is actually looking at the possibility. I am very interested in whatever Monolith's up to, though. Probably mostly Breath of the Wild 2, they were instrumental in helping nintendo make 1, so I'll bet they'll bring them back for 2. -
For me, the biggest issue with wyvern lord's balance is the amount of skills they have access to. First, they have flying, which, in terms of raw balance, is an ability unto itself. If it just gave them special movement, that would be fine, but it also completely negates terrain damage and other negative effects as well. This is huge, because nearly all of the late game levels rely heavily on negative terrain effects, whether it's fire, spikes, or what-have-you. Fliers completely negate this difficulty. Second, they have canto, which... whatever. Most things have canto, so I'll let that go. Then they have axefaire, which is where things start getting a little busted. Now that the weapon triangle has been removed, there really isn't any penalty for being locked to a single weapon type, as long as that weapon type is axes or lances. While axes don't give you an advantage over lances anymore, from a balance perspective, that's not nearly as important as axes being at a DISADVANTAGE to swords. Due to how fire emblem math works, the difference between 80% hit and 100% hit is negligible. The difference between 80% and 60% is enormous. So while, say, great knight gets axe and lance faire, who cares? They're just wasting a skill slot. You don't really need to use both. Finally, because IS has no idea how to balance classes apparently, they also get avoid +10. Great.

@Life I think you hit a few things on the head. First off, I don't know how new to the series you are, but the removal of weapon weight was probably the single biggest balance mistake IS ever made. As you said, it turned speed into a stat that was far more important than it really had any right to be. Awakening was incredibly plagued with this, where a lot of classes were absolutely worthless based purely on speed. Weapon weight allows you not just to use raw speed, or raw strength, but also the stats of the weapons themselves to manipulate the system. The result is more options for the player, more tactical decisions, and better trade offs for classes. The bad news on the move front is the lack of stat caps. Previous games counterbalanced movement by using stat caps to heavily restrict how good a unit could become. Three houses has... functionally no stat caps (Yes, I know they do exist, but they're mostly in the 70s-80s), so there's no real difference between a unit that started as a pegasus knight and reclassed to a general and a unit that started as a general and reclassed to a pegasus knight.

What are your thoughts on Edelgard? *SPOILERS*
dragonlordsd replied to semolinaro's topic in Fire Emblem: Three Houses
This is another aspect that I feel gets overlooked. A lot of people use Rhea's destruction of the western church as "evidence" of her imposing an oppressive religious system, but the evidence in the game shows that Rhea really doesn't care whether you believe in her religion or not. Shamir, Jeralt, and others within the freakin' knights of serios openly question the goddess, and Rhea's totally cool with that. What Rhea objects to (at least, she says) is people actually killing her own followers. A lot of people respond with "well, you can't believe what she says" but... the evidence in the game looks otherwise. -

Agreed. @Hardric62 I find your points interesting as well, as your view points are not ones I've seen other people arguing, so I appreciate the clarification. -
Seteth and Ingrid (and Crests) *minor spoilers*
dragonlordsd replied to Dalquist's topic in Fire Emblem: Three Houses
A few factual points of contention: First off, the reasons behind and timing of the founding of Garreg Mach I do not believe are correct in your account. I think it was more recent than you're making out. And further, if she's trying to "shape the elite with her ultimate school"... uh... she's failing horribly. Second, you, like a lot of people making this line of arguement, are guilty of circular reasoning. And, I don't mean any offense by this, I just want to show you that this is a bit of a logical contradiction. Your argument seems to be that: A) Rhea enforces order through influencing the continent -> B) this is bad because she maintains a system that is oppressive -> C) She maintains this system by not enforcing enough order through influencing the continent Which... does not work. Either A) Rhea has too much influence which is bad, but the whole nobility system based on crests is fine or B) The nobility system based on crests is evil, and Rhea does not have enough influence, because she should be changing that. To break it down more clearly, are you arguing that: Rhea should hold absolute power over human governments and forcefully stop the crest-based nobility system or that she should not hold absolute power, and should allow the crest-based nobility system to exist -
What are your thoughts on Edelgard? *SPOILERS*
dragonlordsd replied to semolinaro's topic in Fire Emblem: Three Houses
Well, also keep in mind that there are things Blue Lions players have seen that Black Eagles players have not. Like, a number of people still don't believe that Edelgard would actually But that absolutely happens in Blue Lions route. -
What are your thoughts on Edelgard? *SPOILERS*
dragonlordsd replied to semolinaro's topic in Fire Emblem: Three Houses
I appreciate that. I'd like to start a push for sourcing information, even though I know it's a serious hassle for people, but I have two good reasons for this: 1. A ton of scenes are tough to actually see. Some depend on you recruiting characters, others depend on you not recruiting characters, to the extent that I don't think you can safely assume the other person has seen the same things you have. There are four routes in this game, with a ton of permutations, so two people may have seen completely different versions of scenes. A lot of Blue Lions players, for example, absolutely hate Edelgard, but they haven't played her path. 2. Some quotes are just getting misquoted or misrepresented. -
Seteth and Ingrid (and Crests) *minor spoilers*
dragonlordsd replied to Dalquist's topic in Fire Emblem: Three Houses
Ok, now here's the thing that I think we're going to be debating until dlc comes out or something. On the one hand, I CAN'T find any explicit source in game that says Rhea "supports" the nobility. Edelgard claims that's true, but unless someone can point something out that I missed, we just have her word. The library claims the opposite is true. Now, I don't believe Rhea herself wrote the books in the library, that's a little silly. But it is likely that followers of hers wrote them. So who do we believe? Edit: a further piece of evidence I've been debating over is her confiscating the lance of Ruin, which should belong to house Gautier. That seems to fall in line with what the books say, though I feel that's a bit off topic. -

dragonlordsd replied to Dalquist's topic in Fire Emblem: Three Houses
Yup yup, here's the full quote: "The descendants of the heroes sought to use their ancestors power. In time they amassed land, titles, crests, and wealth, and used it all to set the land aflame. The goddess' power, intended to stem the flow of evil, became a tool of destruction, and all because of the greed of humanity. And the goddess, heartbroken, hid herself from the world." Edit: there is a further more explicit quote, but it's not in the video I found. I can link to a video where a dude reads most of the books in the library if you want further proof. -
What are your thoughts on Edelgard? *SPOILERS*
dragonlordsd replied to semolinaro's topic in Fire Emblem: Three Houses
You are not wrong, certainly. I mean, to be clear, I think she absolutely intends to destroy them at some point. I don't think there's any question of that. I think her problem is that A) she's not really unifying Fodlan, she's actually doing exactly what they want, and B) She would not survive to see her goals through. Like, here's the thing, everyone's saying, "she's using them" which, yes, but who's getting more use out of who? That's the real question. -
What are your thoughts on Edelgard? *SPOILERS*
dragonlordsd replied to semolinaro's topic in Fire Emblem: Three Houses
These are not contradictions. Simply because she does not simper or cringe at them does not make her any less of a tool in their hands. If you want to make this point, could you provide evidence of times when she manages to force them to do something for her? Or a time when they order her to do something and she refuses, and gets away with it? I don't think their are any good examples, but if I'm wrong correct me. Because if not, well, that's a puppet by any definition. @Tenzen12 Whoops, you're right. Misread your comment. That said, Hubert never said she was working against them, as far as I can remember. He said he hated them and wanted to destroy them, but (again) as far as I can remember, he didn't say that. Which conversation is this, and can you link to a write up/video? -
What are your thoughts on Edelgard? *SPOILERS*
dragonlordsd replied to semolinaro's topic in Fire Emblem: Three Houses
I don't think this is true, and I don't think there's any evidence for that. Unless you can provide some in game source that says that, I have to object. According to the actual facts in the game, Edelgard was working with TWSitD before she came to the monastery, not after. -
Seteth and Ingrid (and Crests) *minor spoilers*
dragonlordsd replied to Dalquist's topic in Fire Emblem: Three Houses
Ok, this is a point that keeps getting brought up, but there are sources in the game that contradict it. According to the books in the library, Rhea objected to the practice of having noble houses based around crests, but the nobility forced her to accept it in the past. This seems to make more sense, considering what crests are. I know Edelgard says that she endorses it, but are there any other sources that claim/demonstrate that? -
What Timlugia said. There's this scene where she's like "we must hunt down all the dragons and eradicate their kind from the world, starting with those two." One thing I'm really quickly realizing is that there are a TON of scenes that you only get under very specific conditions, so a lot of people are disagreeing over things that happened.
