  2. So I've been juggling a few ideas for the affinities in my hack, Book of Eden, and I was wondering what you guys think about the affinities? In the few games that had affinities in them, there were generally two versions of them: GBA era: Fire, Thunder, Wind, Ice, Light, Dark, Anima Tellius era: Fire, Thunder, Wind, Ice, Light, Dark, Earth, Water, Heaven In my hack, much of the lore is inspired from things like Golden Sun, Avatar (element bending one), The Forbidden Kingdom, Chinese Zodiac, and Sun sign horoscopes. I wanted to come up with a 'horoscope' system of sorts for my universe and so far, thinking of sticking with just Earth, Wind, Water, Fire, Light, and Darkness. As for the affinities stats, I'm going to change them for each affinity so they better match the element in my opinion. Currently for the GBA era, stat wise, I noticed each affinity always have two sections that are always empty. For example, Fire has 0's in both Def and Critical Evasion bonuses, where as, Light has 0's in Evasion and Critical Evasion. Should I stick with this or go with something else? In your experience of the games, do you think the affinities accurately reflect the characters, their personalities, and their stats? Though, I know most people don't give much thought to the affinity system, much less their impact on the character's personality and related. It's just something that's always been interesting to me, kind of like the Myers Briggs personality charts, nothing to live by but fun to think about. What do you guys think? I'm eager to hear what everyone else's thoughts on this are.

  5. Thanks for the in-depth review! I have to say though, that most if not all the grammar errors should be fixed but I will go back and see if they are, thanks for that. When a unit levels up, it usually says their class in the level up screen in the GBA games, unless you meant her name and not her class appears? And death quotes...good old death quotes....when I recently moved the ROM from lyn mode to eliwood mode, it...kind of broke some of the death quotes, which is what I'm currently fixing, just fyi for everyone out there. And yes there will be support conversations, its something I'm actually looking foward to working on but they will be the second to last if not very last thing I get to in the process of ROM hacking. It makes more sense to have all the characters planned out and made first before I get to their personalities in the support convos. So rest assured, if the game seems hard now, I'm sure the support bonuses will make it much easier in the future.

  7. That's an interesting thought. I've been told that chapter 9 is potentially too easy. Maybe the bug with Kormac getting the Shikita instead of Richard is why. That weapon is suppose to help a ton as well be there due to lore reasons. Hmm...making Fiona a tad higher level would help...at least from a story standpoint. Richard and Lee are the lazier ones while Fiona actually focuses on her training. Think the Harry Potter trio. So you think making her level 8 would be good? Or should I go a little lower or higher. Kind of like Leo from FE10? He's a little bit higher level than the rest of the Dawn Brigade and is considered to be in the more experienced half of the group, lore wise. But about the inherit weaknesses of being an archer, could you explain why you think this in a little more detail? I feel that most people are spoiled with how units and classes are from the newest entries in the series. Oh, I'm not sure how that happened but the patch is suppose to end after chapter 8. So for those who have managed to download the version that goes past chapter 8, I'm actually curious to hear what you think of the chapters after 8. Keep in mind that anything after chapter 8 isn't polished and can be extremely buggy and is still a work in progress. Chapters 9 to 20 are the next batch of chapters when they are ready to be released. So LogRhythm, I would very much like to hear your thoughts, should you choose to keep playing. I fixed the bug of giving the weapon to the wrong character, so feel free to re download, but keep in mind the new patch won't have access to the chapters after 8 as they weren't meant to be released, let me know if anything else comes up! And if you're interested, LogRhythm, I could use more beta testers.

  9. Oh chapter 7 not loading was my fault, I forgot to re-insert something, but it's working properly now. Thanks for letting me know! You're the first person to mention the lack of Jeigan as a negative as most people I talked, seem to hate jeigan characters in general. Do you have any suggestions on what I could do? I have gotten word of the player being shit out of luck in the earlier chapters if they were RNG screwed but I haven't come up with or decided on what to do about that yet. Chapter 6 is meant to be challenging, as you're suppose to choose between completing the chapter or risk losing a unit for extra experience when you approach him. I do believe I have a little convo between the characters warning of that. Let me know your other thoughts on this. Theres a lore reason that works in my favor when Richard is RNG screwed but also okay if hes not. But Fiona I haven't figured out how to make her more powerful/okay without breaking the lore. She's suppose to be an archer that excels in speed and skill but everything could simply be because you were RNG screwed. What do you think? And Kormac is meant to be a good unit also because of lore. I have nerfed the healers a bit since the last patch but good to hear they aren't weak as shit. So let me know what you think for the rest of the patch from chapter 7 onward, I think chapter 7 is the highlight as thats the part I worked on the most in terms of from start to finish in this alliteration of the patch.
  10. this patch just has some minor changes, namely a "save" system i'm testing so players will be able to use their characters in future patches. some new aesthetic changes and upgrades and all the old bugs and errors should be gone now, but if they're not, let me know and i'll see to it that they're gone! see the patch notes for more info.
  11. I usually just use other portraits as a guide on what colors I might want and how those colors might look. I usually leave about 3-6 colors for the skin tones and the rest I usually follow a 2-3 colors per item of clothing and making sure the total colors doesn't go over 16. So most of my characters would have a primary and secondary article of clothing which equals 4-6 colors right there. The reason for this is one color for the light, one for mid tones and one for the shading often creates enough of an illusion of depth with 16 colors. As for photoshop, I stick with my rules and just cherry pick colors off other portraits, making sure the different shades and hues match after doing samples. Holding ALT when you have a brush, pencil, or gradient tool allows you to take/copy colors, allowing easy coloring. There is also a "match color" function where you can take replace all the reds with blue, or whatever colors you want in a given portrait. Image > Adjustment > Match Color. That might be what you're looking for. OreoStyx is right though as Paint.net might be easier. Photoshop has a lot of layers to it that you have to learn; the program is very in depth and you can do quite a lot with it. My workflow is doing all the mock up work in photoshop and then checking with usenti on whether or not I have my 16 color limit. If you need any more help, feel free to message me.

  14. Good morning/afternoon/evening everyone, I'm not sure how to ask so I'll just be blunt. I've been working on my hack for the past year or so and I'm looking for some additional help in my hack. You can find out more about my hack in the Fan Projects section, it's called FE: Book of Eden. Below are the categories that I'm looking for help in. Beta Testers: I'm looking for about 1-2 more testers. Tasks would include feedback on the story, things like consistency, plotholes, and your general thoughts. Extra people to bounce ideas off of. I already have grammar checkers but one more wouldn't hurt. Sprites: Spriters would be nice, though you do not have to be an expert. Mostly just touch ups and chibi portraits (90% of my portraits don't have a proper chibi portrait and the other 10 are missing one.) I'll admit chibi are not one of my favorite areas to work on. I'm willing to exchange favors/help. My hack has a sort of cross-over theme so we can also exchange portraits too. Script writers: Anyone experienced in writing animation scripts and converting FE8 monster animations to call the proper sound effects and run properly on FE7? That's pretty much what I need help in. I have no background in writing code or programming. I'm willing to provide compensation, either through exchanging favors/help or payment. Music: I'm currently using the default FE7 soundtrack but it would be nice to have help in this area. Inserting some songs from FE6 and FE8 and some other midi I found. I have even less knowledge in music than I do in programming. I hope I'm not being too confusing in my explanation. If you have any questions, you can either PM me or ask them here.   15. Thanks for the very much in depth review! Most of the things that you have mentioned have already been fixed. The simplicity of the early chapters were done like they are for the purpose of making it easier. I know that majority of people playing hacks are experienced players but when I designed them, it was originally for my friends, who aren't experienced players, that were beta testing it. The team of testers is growing, albeit very slowly, and I would love to have you on the team if you want. Send me a PM if you're interested.

I think everything should make more sense now, the prologue world map event is suppose to give the audience background information on Eldrahgo.

  20. it helps if you mention what these small things are, then people would know what advice to give. Ex: To me, small things could be getting the right palette for characters or changing the world map, but for others those could be a difficult thing learn. There's a lot that goes on in hacking and simply saying all the small things doesn't really help anyone trying to help you. So try to be very specific when asking for help. as for your first post, replacing a character is fairly simple, just replace the character's portrait and edit the stats to your desired stats via nightmare character module, but also keep in mind that stats for a character are a combination of class bases and the character bases themselves. both the portrait and names, descriptions, and related can be edited via feditor. the pointers and offsets can for things like names, descriptions of the characters, and support texts can be found in the corresponding nightmare modules. hope this helps!

  22. So I have been bouncing ideas for my book that i've been working on and off for the last several years and I decided last year to make a hack based off my story. Problem is, I'm not a good writer, at least I dont think i am, and was hoping the fine lads and lasses here would give me some feedback and help me sort through my ideas into coherent writings and sentences. As for the story, I've always had trouble summarizing the story in a few sentences. But the basics are, hero ends up in new realm/dimension/universe, has to solve political problems as well as personal problems in order to be able to go back to his own realm/dimension/universe. He ends up on the continent of Eldrahgo where the five kingdoms are currently on the verge of war. The reason our hero, Richard, is important to the plot is because his arrival to the continent triggers the impending war that will wipe out life on that continent. I do have various names, backstories of characters, and historical information about various locaitons in this worl dof mine. I can also tell you what the main character does when and where and what happens. I can also list big name historical events and upcoming battles, events, names and information on various factions and groups. I just can't seem to summarize everything into a few sentences. I already made a topic on my hack over at concepts in the fan project selection. It will be updated shortly as I'm finalizing the next patch update. Are there questions I can answer that would enable others to better understand my story? If there are more details that I can/should list, please let me know. I'm pretty sure what I written above is rather confusing but I hope that those who read it are able to help me sort out my story. Thanks for taking the time to read and if anything doesn't make sense, just post here or PM me.
  23. Is the Ishtar animation under magic users suppose to be incomplete? I don't have any knowledge in scripting animations yet and I was wondering whether or not it is missing a 'processed' version? Because I can't seem to insert it into my FE7 ROM.   24. if you can find the offset of the chapter you overwritten, you could copy over data from a vanilla ROM and fix it that way.
