  1. Translations are complete for the two Corrin promo cards. These are technically included in Series 1, despite obviously being series 2 cards, so that's pretty interesting. I had been wondering what was going to take those two empty slots in the Series 1 promo card list.

  2. We get an official look at the Kamui cards included in the booster boxes tonight.

    https://twitter.com/FEcipher/status/614266520793780224

    "Booster packs come 16 to a box alongside a Series 2 Promotion Card as well as a download code to bring Minerva into the Fire Emblem If game. #FEcipher"

    https://twitter.com/FEcipher/status/614266808715997184

    "Preceding the release of Series 2 are these promo cards showing Kamui as he appears in the Hoshido storyline and Kamui as she appears in the Nohr storyline. Look for either one in your booster box. #FEcipher"

  3. I think we should reconsider our translation of "Savior of Archanea, Marth." The Japanese text does not mention Archanea;

    救国の英雄 マルス

    Kyuukyoku no Eiyuu Marusu

    "Hero of National Salvation, Marth"

    救国 is a type of patriot that has a messianic role for the nation, like Jeanne d'Arc. I can see why we would use Savior, but given that the text doesn't refer to Archanea by name, it would be more accurate to render this in a way that identifies Marth as a patriotic hero without specifying Archanea. "Hero to His Country, Marth" maybe?

    Thanks for the feedback! One reason I didn't go with a more direct translation here is due to the redundant nature of putting the two English terms "Hero" and "Patriot/Messiah" right next to each other in any order.

    Another reason is that Patriotism for an American English speaker really contains the identity of the country within it, and also the Japanese term 救国 itself references a "patriot concerned with his countries salvation". While in reality, Marth's home country is Altea, as the story proceeds (at least in Shadow Dragon), he comes to represent Archanea as a whole. So, you can see the difficulty one might have trying to find a perfect match to the direct translation, which is why I took a bit of liberty and directly referenced Archanea in his title.

    A third reason for my choice is space and wordiness. I agree that something like "Hero of National Salvation" is more correct, but it definitely doesn't roll of the tongue well. Also that has a few more characters at 26 than "Savior of Archanea" at 18. While this isn't an official body of work, conservation of character space is still something I strive to observe in my translation work.

    All that being said, I have taken this into consideration and will definitely give it more thought! The great thing about a fan translation is the freedom to be fluid and change things if need be. Again, I appreciate you sharing your time and thoughts on this!

  4. Thanks FutureKnightX!

    I've fixed these as well as a couple other errors I caught sight of while making these fixes.

    You may have already seen my direct reply on the google doc itself, but I'll go ahead and post it here too just in case. In regards to the "Virgin Blade" skill name for that Lissa card: The reason I used 'Virgin' here was to further imply a connotation that the original Japanese card has which is hinting at the fact Lissa had never wielded a weapon before. The blade as well as herself were both virgins to taking people's lives, which is something I don't think Maiden quite covers. I might have taken a bit too much liberty though. The literal Japanese translation of the skill name is "Nun Who Fights", so "Maiden Fighter" is something that could close the gap between the two extremes perhaps. Maiden still carries the connotation of something just starting (a la Maiden Voyage) and Fighter sounds better as it is more technically correct than "Blade". What do you think?

    Her cost is 1, not 2. I'll check the rest later, but from what I saw of the promos and the starter deck cards, that is the only mistake I caught. And I do assume that it's super cool to use these translations for the wiki?

    Thanks much for the catch, I'll update that.

    Most certainly, these translations are free to use for the wiki. In fact, this project was started for the use of yall's wiki! I appreciate you asking, though. ^^

  7. I was finally able to finish translation work on all 120 known Series 1 Cipher cards. I have divided the series into easier to handle chunks below; the complete google doc is still available for referencing as well. Please let me know if you spot any errors, or things that you think might could be worded or handled better. This is a tentative work and I greatly appreciate any feedback or criticisms you might have with it, so please don't hesitate to let me know what you think! This project needs some fresh eyes, so I apologize in advance for how raw it is.

    As always, I will continue to endeavor on making the translations better as well as improving the organization and usability of this compendium!

  8. From the Twitter updates thread, Kawade has detailed that there will be 6 distinct voice-actor signature variant cards in the series 1 set. Hikaru Midorikawa, Sakura Tange, Takehito Koyasu, Yu Kobayashi, Miyuki Sawashiro, and Kana Asumi have all lent their signatures.

  9. Lots of new information from the tweets over the night! Details on how many VA-signature cards there will be and who lent their signatures. Also the official site was updated.

  10. Draw a new support card for each new battle.

    Criticals are done while the attack is being resolved. You perform criticals after flipping the Support card for your attack. Same for God-speed Evasion

    Now, just to clarify, since that wording is somewhat confusing, the support card still goes to the retreat area, correct?

    And as for the order of when one can perform criticals/evasion, it goes support, then critical chance, then evasion chance, correct? Since if evasion and critical are at the same time, it would be kinda maddening, wouldn't it?

    Ah, sorry for the weird wording.

    Support Cards are always discarded after resolving an attack.

    Criticals are done before evasions, yes.

    Would it be helpful if I recorded this and reuploaded it to YouTube? I can timeshift the broadcast and record it, it'll just take a couple hours to record, export and upload.

    Yeah, that'd be a good resource to have access to if possible!

  11. Honestly the big reason I haven't started putting things on the wiki is that I don't know how it works. I could easily start copying and pasting from my translation documents if I knew precisely how the wiki system on this site works. How exactly does one create a new page (like for each card)? Create a new sub-section (for ease of searching among skills, classes, etc)?

    I've been afraid I'll mess things up, but I definitely want to help get this wiki running as soon as possible. I'm aiming to have completed tentative translations for all fields of all cards by the release tomorrow (25th Japan time), so all the information will be there. I just need to know how best to transfer the information over to the wiki.

    A couple suggestions I would have is to mimic some of the organizational design decisions that this Japanese Cipher wiki site has:

    -Accessible sidebar with links to Promo, Starter Deck, and Booster sections

    -A master Series 1 list
    -List pages compiled for each shared skill, class, character name, etc.

  12. Watched the whole thing. Was mostly them goofing around and opening card packs. Apparently there were 4 SR cards in the box, and they must have opened at least 60 packs in order to get 4 "Signed" SR cards with the artist's signature in gold foil. I took some screencaps of these super rare cards:

    Screenshot%2022_zpsepphbqab.png

    Screenshot%2028_zpsk4b1wml9.png

    Screenshot%2030_zpsebs1nzsu.png

    Screenshot%2039_zpsjqy6zv4k.png

    Screenshot%2042_zpsrvuwfnrj.png

    And the text from the Kamui card:

    常 このユニットは(青)としてもあつかう、(常はこのカードがユニットとして戦場にいる間だけ有効になる)
    常 自分のターン中、自分の(赤)の絆カードが2枚以上の場合、このユニットの戦闘力は+10される。
    自 自分の攻撃ユニットが(黄)の場合、戦闘終了まで、そのユニットが攻撃で破壊するオーブは2つになる。
    Quick trans;
    Permanent. This unit can also be treated as a BLUE card (only when it is on the field)
    Permanent. During your turn, if you have more than 2 RED bond cards, this card receives +10 ATK.
    Automatic. If your attacking unit is YELLOW, that unit will destroy two orbs when defeating a lord until the end of the turn.

    So who knows if this card is out of the ordinary for the next set or many will be similar, but it is definitely encouraging mixed color decks.
    Otherwise not much news, they provided a link for viewers in Japan to enter a raffle where they can receive those 4 signed SR cards that came out of the boosters during the filming.

    Thanks for the images and the text for the Kamui card!

    I'm thinking the Kamui card was made to operate like that so that he could be usable immediately alongside all the Series 1 cards. I don't think the future Series 2 cards will play quite as nice with the Red and Blue cards. In fact, I can't quite read the Card ID of the card from what they showed on stream, but he might be technically considered a Series 1 Promo card. It would be cool though if multi-color decks were more viable.

  13. So far they've started by generally going over what all comes in the Starter Deck package (playsheet, Main Character marker card, etc) and showing off the actual product packages for the starter decks. The cards look very thick, good quality. Now they've started the "Cipher Experience Report" which has people talking about their thoughts about Cipher at the demo events.

  14. There is a special livestream to celebrate the release of Cipher on niconico starting tomorrow morning at 7am EST.

    Link: http://live.nicovideo.jp/watch/lv224380510

    According to Kawade on Twitter, they will be having Lynn and Yusuke Kozaki as guests and discussing the remaining information surrounding Cipher that they were wanting to save until release. I imagine a good deal of this is stuff Japanese blogs have already covered and that we have since learned as well, but I'm hoping for some greater official clarification on rules and maybe a new card or two. I also hope they show a bit more of Series 2, though I imagine they'll want to focus on Series 1. It is the one being released after all!

    Updates: Lynn and Yusuke Kozaki did a trial match on stage while each play was explained in depth. A lot of this is repeat information, but I've bolded the parts that might now have been known before.

    First you place your Main Character with the marker card.
    Then draw 6 cards for you hand (you can mulligan)
    Then draw the top 5 cards for the Orb Area.
    The game then starts and both opponents flip their Main Character.
    Play starts after deciding order (flip coin, Rock paper scissors)
    Start by going through the 5 phases of a turn
    First is the Bond Phase, place one card from your hand as a bond card
    Next is the Deployment Phase, you may deploy units in accordance with how many bonds you have.
    Next is the Action Phase, decide whether your units will use actions skills or move, etc.
    Next is the Battle Phase, for each attack declared, you resolve by placing the top card of the deck into the Support Area. Draw a new support card for each new battle.
    Criticals are done while the attack is being resolved. You perform criticals after flipping the Support card for your attack. Same for God-speed Evasion
    Once done, declare your turn over.

    When an orb is destroyed as a result of battle, the loser draws one of their orbs into their hand.
    In a tied attack power situation, the defender loses.
    The person going first seems to have a great advantage.

    They debuted new images that they are considering using for new sleeves and announced they will have sleeves for Lodestar Marth and Great Lord Chrom card designs. They let the niconico stream audience decide which one they liked best from the five available for Awakening and Shadow Dragon. Gaius won from Awakening and Tiki won from Shadow Dragon.

    There will be a promotional Kamui card in Booster Boxes

    Signed Grandmaster Robin; Crimson God of Death, Navarre; Warrior from a Grim Future, Lucina images

    Images of Series 2 card art. Arther in the style of Codename Steam is also a thing.

  17. ^I would still need to disagree on the 'dekizu' part, because to me that means you cannot use critical hits as long as thus CCS skill is active, not because you chose not to use a critical hit. For now, you should keep your version of the translation until something else shows up which can clarify this point.

    If you have any friends who are fluent with japanese, you could try asking them? I'll ask around too.

    I did some more research and thinking about it and found you are absolutely correct. My brain has been thinking of できず as せず for whatever reason and I've been missing that all along. It should literally read "without being able to use a critical attack". I'll update it to say "This unit cannot use critical attacks, but the orbs it destroys as a result of battle is 2." Thanks for the catch and for standing your ground, made me rethink it enough to catch on to where I went wrong!

  18. Since that site with amazingly hi-res pictures of all the Series 1 cards was linked I've been working on trying to translate all of the remaining cards that need to be done. I'm working on updating the image companion guide google spreadsheet, but in the meantime I changed the link in my sig to the photobucket album I created to house them all for now.
    I was able to complete work on the Starter Deck exclusive cards, some of which I had already done before. I'll repost those alongside the new ones just for posterity and convenience. For reference, I believe all of the new ones are: Jagen, Ogma, Navarre, Kellam, and Ricken.
    Also appearing alongside these is the Promo Marth card image that was found on that site.

    Regarding the Owain 2nd effect, i think it should be "This unit cannot use Critical Attacks, and the orbs it destroys as a result of battle is 2". The use of "できず" simply means "Unable to", and not "As long as", which would have been "さえ"

    (Not gameplay related: The title for the promoted Owain should be "Chosen Warrior of Hope" ? Unless the english localization is different then i'll leave it in your good hands. Same goes for the title of the other Owain, the title reads as Sealed Power .Also Lucina's title would be Sacred Descendent as you put as the spoiler title. )

    Also, I think the phase where your movement units and activating of skills can be called Action Phase instead of Movement phase, since you're not only moving units? but yeah 起=Action seems fine to me too.

    Localization criticisms are very welcome, I appreciate your thoughts! Since I am trying to localize this, I have had to make some translation decisions that should rightly be questioned. ^^

    -I chose "as long as this unit does not use a critical attack" instead of "cannot use a critical attack" in order to help conserve flow in the entire sentence for that skill's description. To me "できず” means something like "without using a critical attack" which would mean the skill could be literally translated as "Without using a critical hit, orbs destroyed by this unit's attacks is 2." It isn't that this card cannot perform critical attacks, it's just that if you want to be able to destroy 2 orbs you have to give up using a critical attack for that specific attack.

    -I quite like "Chosen Warrior of Hope" over "Chosen Warrior", when doing that card I couldn't quite think how to work in the 希望 part of his Japanese title.

    -For the unpromoted "Sealed Power" Owain, I wanted something that took the 者 into consideration as well as something that sounded more proper for an English reader. Judicious carries the connotation of consciously deciding to hold back power and Swordsman took the place of 者.

    -As for Lucina, Sacred Descendent was the final name I decided on for her. I forgot to change that in the raw text section, so thanks for the spot!

  19. Thanks for the translations as always! That Lucina image is definitively not the right one though :)

    Thanks for the catch! My browsers cache was showing the Lucina card in the place of that Maria card that must have been showing up for everyone else. Should be fixed now. I think from now on I'll just stick to linking my own uploads, hahah.

    I'm not all too familiar with TCGs, what exactly is the key to the SR, R, HN, and N? Is it just rarity levels? So many of those SRs look so good.

    Yes, they are rarity levels. The rarities essentially can be read as:

    SR = Super Rare

    R = Rare

    HN = Uncommon

    N = Common

    ST = Starter Deck

    PR = Promotional

  20. Here are the rest of the tweets from last night. I'm kind of surprised we didn't get any new card images, especially so close to release.
