  1. Apparently Kawade's worried about the weather going into the next Cipher Experience and wanted to update us on that. https://twitter.com/FEcipher/status/612015006654185472 "[Kawade] For those interested in participating in the next Cipher Experience, we're heading from Kyoto to Tokyo. I'm not so sure how today's weather will turn out though. #FEcipher"
  2. The two Owain cards shown off on Twitter earlier are now translated. These cards are some of the most well written in Cipher in my opinion, lots of references that capture the essence of Owain's character. Swordmaster Owain is particularly terrifying with his devastating attack and the skills that increase his destructive power even further. Also complete is the request for the Cost 2 Lucina that can be found in the Awakening Starter Deck. Haven't found a good picture for her yet. As always, please don't hesitate to let me know if anything needs to be edited/changed. I really do appreciate it! [spoiler=Chosen Warrior of Hope, Owain] Rarity: Super Rare / Series 1 Booster Card #091 Cost: 4 / Promotion Cost: 3 Insignia: Awakening Affinities: Male / Sword Quote: “Damn, this isn’t Mystletainn…I can’t land the killing blow without it!” Skill 1: “Blessed Demon Sword” / α / [Discard one “Owain” card from your hand] Until the end of this turn, this unit’s attack is doubled. Skill 2: CCS “Apocryphal Brand Mystletainn” / ∞ / This unit cannot use critical attacks, but the orbs it destroys as a result of battle is 2. (CCS: If this unit was placed without the promotion unit cost, this skill is inactive) Support Skill: N/A Attack Power: 70 Support Attack Power: 10 Range: 1 Promoted Class: Swordmaster Title: Chosen Warrior of Hope Card ID: B01-093HN Illustrator: Rika Suzuki [spoiler=Judicious Swordsman, Owain] Rarity: Uncommon / Series 1 Booster Card #093 Cost: 1 / Promotion Cost: N/A Insignia: Awakening Affinities: Male / Sword Quote: “Ah, Mystletainn! I could feel it beckoning me!” Skill 1: “Apocryphal Brand? Missiletainn” / α / [Flip 1 Bond] Until the end of this turn this unit’s attack is decreased by 10 and the orbs it destroys as a result of battle is now 2. Skill 2: N/A Support Skill: “Fighter’s Emblem” / Attack ♥ / Until the end of the attack phase, your attacking unit’s attack is increased by 20. Attack Power: 40 Support Attack Power: 10 Range: 1 Unpromoted Class: Myrmidon Title: Judicious Swordsman Card ID: B01-093HN Illustrator: Rika Suzuki [spoiler=Sacred Descendent, Lucina] Rarity: Common / Series 1 Booster Card #055 Cost: 2 / Promotion Cost: N/A Insignia: Awakening Affinities: Female / Sword Quote: “No longer am I alone. Surely darkness cannot overcome us this time…” Skill 1: “Royal Bloodline” / α / [Once per turn] [Flip 1 Bond] Until the end of this turn, this unit and all ally Chrom unit’s attack is increased by 10. This skill cannot be used if there are no ally Chrom units on the battlefield. Skill 2: N/A Support Skill: N/A Attack Power: 50 Support Attack Power: 20 Range: 1 Unpromoted Class: Lord Title: Sacred Descendent Card ID: B01-055N Illustrator: Maiponpon / Intelligent Systems I completely agree about emphasizing user-friendliness. You've given me a lot to think about in terms of how to best handle the translation for Cipher. I definitely need to go back through and overhaul the system at some point. I think each of the correlative words you have for those Kanji work well, except "起 = activate" (that and I'm pretty sure you meant 支 instead of 攻 for "support"). Indeed, 起 has been the most difficult Kanji to find a succinct idea-translation for. I don't think 'activate' conveys quite enough context, since these skills must be declared and paid for only during the "movement phase". It's close and perhaps is the best fit coming from other TCG nomenclature; I just wish there was also a way to convey that these skills must be done before the attack phase. I feel like "起 = Action" would work better, since it would give these skills a separate distinction from movement and attacking, and would retain the ACT abbreviation. If I were to go with this term, I'd have to revise many of the skills that refer to tapping as "taking an action" in order to avoid confusion. It might work better on the whole and benefit the translation project in the long run though! Ah, many thanks for that spot. I definitely goofed up on the translation for that card. I'll have to fix that! I also noticed the "Reverse" terminology. It's definitely something that is agreed upon among the already installed Cipher fanbase in Japan. I'm not sure how a true localization team would handle it, but it seemed like most people here were more familiar with the 'Flip' terminology and it conveys the idea well enough. As audiotronica noted, Gaius should be able to use Assassinate on a Lord card due to the "destroyed as a result of battle" terminology.
  3. Here are the remainder of the tweets that came out over the night. Kawade talks about a Cipher event going on today in Japan and there are two card intros for Owain cards that make many references to Owain's colorful character. https://twitter.com/FEcipher/status/611763915798622208 "[Kawade] Just one more week til Cipher releases! We are holding another Cipher Experience event in the 5th floor event space room of the Osaka Nipponbashi branch animate store. The event will run until 7pm tonight, so come on out when you get the time! #FEcipher" https://twitter.com/FEcipher/status/611775853479923712 "[Card Introduction] This is Owain who is, as a matter of fact, a royal descendent. Because of this, he also has the ability to destroy 2 orbs like all other royal heros, though it's in a more limited capacity. You might also take notice of his quote as well. (Illustrator: Rika Suzuki) #FEcipher" https://twitter.com/FEcipher/status/611835469207187456 "[Card Introduction] This is the promoted version of the previous Owain card we showed. Despite still having a restriction on his 2x orb destruction skill, pairing it with his other skill that lets him double his attack power makes the skills this card has quite powerful indeed. He probably has the right Mystletainn this time. (Illustrator: Rika Suzuki) #FEcipher"
  4. The newest tweet is about the official site being updated with a list of shops carrying the Cipher TCG in Japan. https://twitter.com/FEcipher/status/611728669145350144 "The Cipher Homepage has been drastically updated with a list of shops carrying Fire Emblem Cipher. #FEcipher http://fecipher.jp/event/shoplist/"
  5. Boo-yah Touya, welcome! Glad to have you here. Here's the translation for the Sumia card from today's tweet. Her CCS skill is pretty interesting in that it directly affects the support character's attack power, this might change strategies up a bit. It's becoming more and more viable to build a deck completely made out of Pegasus Knights and class-changed units thereafter. Sumia (Gentle Flower of the Shepherds) – Rarity: Rare / Series 1 Booster Card #068 Cost: 3 / Promotion Cost: 2 Insignia: Awakening Affinities: Female / Lance / Flying / Mount Quote: “I will be your shield whenever you need protection!” Skill 1: CCS “Cry of the Pegasus” / ∞ / Whenever another ally has a flying affinity unit as their support unit, that support unit’s support power is increased by 10. Skill 2: “Angelic Flight” / α / Once per Turn / Move this unit to another spot on your Battlefield. This skill can only be used if this unit has not yet taken an action this turn. Support Skill: N/A Attack Power: 50 Support Attack Power: 30 Range: 1 Promoted Class: Falcoknight Title: Gentle Flower of the Shepherds Card ID: B01-068R Illustrator: Dokkoi Yep, this is how I understand it as well. The other caveat the skill has is that it can only be used once per turn, which makes sense. In the case of Olivia, yes you could use her to "un-tap" Caeda and then you could use the Angelic Flight skill, provided you hadn't already used it already earlier that turn. EDIT: Oh wow, thanks so much DifferentFight! That's a treasure trove of new material!
  6. The newest Cipher tweet is about a promoted Falcoknight Sumia card. https://twitter.com/FEcipher/status/611488076309762048 "[Card Introduction] This is Sumia, one of the members of Chrom's Shepherds. Building a deck centered around making use of her skill that increases support attack power is quite viable. Her card also has the unique ability to freely move about the battlefield. (Illustrator: Dokkoi) #FEcipher"
  7. We already saw a decent image of this Falcoknight Caeda card all the way back at the livestream event, and now we've got it on the official twitter. https://twitter.com/FEcipher/status/611095717688446976 "[Card Introduction] This is Caeda as a promoted Falcoknight. Her amazing talent for recruiting characters in the game returns in Cipher as the skill "Persuasion" which lets you add a unit you want from your deck into your hand. (Illustrator: mayo) #FEcipher"
  8. In case anyone missed it from earlier on in, here's the translation for the Falcoknight Caeda card. Caeda (Angelic Advocate of Affection) – Rarity: Super Rare / Series 1 Booster Card #004 Cost: 4 / Promotion Cost: 3 Insignia: Shadow Dragon Affinities: Female / Lance / Flying / Mounted Quote: “Can you truly fathom love? Is there someone that you care deeply about?” Skill 1: “Persuasion” / & / Flip one Bond / If an enemy is destroyed by this unit’s attack and you pay the cost, then you may select any Shadow Dragon Insignia card except “Caeda” from your deck and place it in your hand. You must show it to your opponent and shuffle your deck afterwards. Skill 2: “Angelic Flight” / α / Once per Turn / Move this unit to another spot on your Battlefield. This skill can only be used if this unit has not yet taken an action this turn. Support Skill: N/A Attack Power: 60 Support Attack Power: 30 Range: 1 Promoted Class: Falcoknight Title: Angelic Advocate of Affection Card ID: B01-004SR Illustrator: Mayo I am also pretty sure that Nono aka Nowi's bond return skill is mandatory, just for the reason Nanaka has here. My translation of the card will continue to reflect that until it is confirmed otherwise.
  9. Here's the translation for the Caeda card that just got posted on Twitter. Her skill seems pretty high cost for only a 10pt attack increase, but maybe it'll will come in handy in a pinch. Caeda (Princess of Talys) – Rarity: Uncommon / Series 1 Booster Card #006 Cost: 1 Insignia: Shadow Dragon Affinities: Female / Lance / Flying / Mount Quote: “Marth! I’m glad I found you." Skill 1: “Royal Charisma” / α / [Tap this unit, Tap 1 ally unit] Choose one ally unit. Until the end of this turn, that unit’s attack is increased by 10. Skill 2: N/A Support Skill: “Flyer’s Emblem” / Attack ♥ / You may choose one ally that is not an attacking unit and move it. Attack Power: 30 Support Attack Power: 30 Range: 1 Unpromoted Class: Pegasus Knight Title: Princess of Talys Card ID: B01-006HN Illustrator: Douji Shiki
  10. Here's the latest tweet translation. As Hardin mentioned it's a Caeda peg knight card. It's kind of funny that they acknowledge the fact that all the pegasus knight units are essentially the same. https://twitter.com/FEcipher/status/611005118662643712 "[Card Introduction] This is Caeda, the princess of Talys, who was with Marth since the beginning of his journey. As with the other many Pegasus Knight cards, she has a high support attack power and skills focusing on movement. (Illustrator: Douji Shiki) #FEcipher"
  11. No way that Nowi wasn't going to get a card, that'd be a big no-no. Here's the freshly announced Nowi card's full translation. Nowi (Wellspring of Youth) – Rarity: Rare / Series 1 Booster Card #078 Cost: 3 Insignia: Awakening Affinities: Female / Stone / Dragon Quote: “I trust everyone to do their jobs, and me? I do my best in battle!” Skill 1: “Young Manakete” / & / At the end of your turn, add one card from your Bond Area to your hand. Skill 2: “Ancient Dragon Tribe” / ∞ / When there are 6 or more cards in your bond area, this unit’s attack is increased by 30. Support Skill: N/A Attack Power: 50 Support Attack Power: 20 Range: 1-2 Non-promotable Class: Manakete Title: Wellspring of Youth Card ID: B01-078R Illustrator: Pisuke I think you aren't required to move the bond at the end of the turn. The verb uses the potential tense indicating it's up to the player if they want to or not. Never mind, it isn't the potential form of the verb, so it is a forced thing. However, this isn't as bad as we might think. This skill might let you return flipped bonds to your hand which would help get rid of used bonds and refresh your bond area. It hasn't been clarified, but if you take the Japanese on these skills literally then I would take it to mean all cards in the Bond Area, whether face up or face down. Not entirely sure about the official rule on that though.
  12. The new tweet details both of Nowi's skills alongside her new card design. https://twitter.com/FEcipher/status/610642288973250560 "[Card Intro] This is the Manakete Nowi of the ancient dragon tribe. Her attack increases once there are 6 or more bonds in your Bond Area. She also has a skill that lets you move cards from your Bond Area to your hand. To use Nowi to her fullest potential, you'll need to use these skills at just the right times."
  13. In between the E3 conferences today I was able to get the Gregor card translated. His skill makes this quite a useful card, and I wonder if there will be a Hero Gregor card. Gregor (Fearless Mercenary) – Rarity: Common / Series 1 Booster Card #077 Cost: 2 Insignia: Awakening Affinities: Male / Sword Quote: “Oy, you break Gregor's heart! Why you treat like villain?” Skill 1: “Gregor and the Young Manakete” / ∞ / When this unit is destroyed as a result of an opponent’s attack, instead of the discard pile place him in your Bond Area. Skill 2: N/A Support Skill: N/A Attack Power: 40 Support Attack Power: 10 Range: 1 Unpromoted Class: Mercenary Title: Fearless Mercenary Card ID: B01-77N Illustrator: Mikihiro Taguchi
  14. We got a new Gregor card introduction and an announcement for Cipher tournaments in July. https://twitter.com/FEcipher/status/610356451589013505 "[Card Intro] This is the mercenary Gregor who shows up in Awakening. His skill is enough to make an opponent think twice about attacking him since when he is defeated in battle he becomes a Bond Area card instead of being discarded. (Illustrator: Mikihiro Taguchi) #FEcipher" https://twitter.com/FEcipher/status/610430953106726912 "[Event] In July we will be holding tournaments for Cipher at participating shops. #FEcipher"
  15. The tweet today is more of Kawade hyping up the Cipher Experience events going on in Japan. https://twitter.com/FEcipher/status/609902612779929601 "[Kawade] Today's Cipher Experience is at the Sannomiya Joshin super store. This is our first in the Kansai area! #FEcipher"
  16. Whoops, I misread it back when I translated that card, hahah. I'm on the same page as you in terms of both terms being read as "destroy" in my mind when I see it, so I must of switched those around. Apologies for the confusion, but yeah it seems the distinction is still a fair one to make despite my erroneous Gaius example. I think this the best guess. I think they are just covering themselves in the future in case they want to make "original scenario" cards in later series for units like Minerva where they came into the game already pre-promoted.
  17. Only one tweet today since it's the weekend. Kawade talks about fans playing Cipher as their first TCG. https://twitter.com/FEcipher/status/609539693777039361 "[Kawade] While reading stories of people's experiences at the Cipher demo events, I expected there would be many Fire Emblem fans. What I didn't expect was how many people gladly particpated in a TCG for the first time just because they are fans. ^^ #FEcipher" I really do like the full art cards like this and Gaius, and I imagine the holo-foil will make them nice and shiny as well. This might be the single greatest thing that has happened to those that would want to collect Fire Emblem merch, what with almost all characters being represented and portrayed quite well by top-notch artists.
  18. Yep, this is one of the main reasons that I worded it that way. A discussion earlier in the thread came to the conclusions that we should err on the side of caution, especially with an unofficial translation, and make the wording as fool-proof as possible to avoid arguments in battle such as "should this ability instantly destroy the 1 cost Main Character or not". The other main reason has to do from a translation standpoint. The cards already use a word for simply "destroy" which is 破壊. This is used in reference to orbs most of the time. However, when an ability talks about destroying units, most of the time it uses 撃破, which also means "destroy" literally, but it also holds the extra connotation of an attack or battle related incident that 破壊 does not. What solidifies my stance on this is the fact that Gaius' "Lethality" skill actually uses 破壊 instead of 撃破 when it talks about destroying a unit card that has not yet been placed on the battlefield. This means that there definitely is a distinction between these two terms, and so I make sure to make that known in my translations. I do recognize that in an effort to cover all bases my translations are a bit too wordy at times. I appreciate all feedback, so if you have another way you think it would be worded while still preserving the difference between both "destroy" terms, then let me know!
  19. Today's Camus card has been translated. This card seems extremely overpowered but I imagine it will be really tough to come by enough bonds to play him, let alone to then make use of his skill that often. That being said, this is just one more example of a card that makes the Shadow Dragon deck that much more interesting to me than the Awakening deck. Camus (Sable Order) – Rarity: Super Rare / Series 1 Booster Card #050 Cost: 5 / Promotion Cost: 4 Insignia: Shadow Dragon Affinities: Male / Lance / Mount Quote: “I have lived as a knight, and I intend to die as one. There are no other roads left for me to walk.” Skill 1: “Blessed Lance Gradivus” / α / [Flip 4 Bonds] All opposing units of cost 2 or less are destroyed as a result of battle. Until the end of this turn this unit has a range of 1-2, and for each unit that was destroyed by this skill this unit’s attack is increased by 10. Skill 2: N/A Support Skill: N/A Attack Power: 70 Support Attack Power: 10 Range: 1 Promoted Class: Paladin Title: Sable Order Card ID: B01-050SR Illustrator: Rika Suzuki
  20. More Kawade tweets about the Cipher Experience events and a previously unseen Camus card introduction https://twitter.com/FEcipher/status/609274877577576448 "[Kawade] The very first Cipher Experience event has begun! ^^" https://twitter.com/FEcipher/status/609339673547149312 "[Kawade] The first Cipher Experience is now over. I am extremely glad so many people came out, thank you so much to all the fans! Since there are even more Cipher Experience events lined up, there are many more chances from tomorrow onward for those that might have missed coming out today. Come by if you can! #FECipher" https://twitter.com/FEcipher/status/609340677369892866 "[Card Introduction] This is Camus, Captain of the Sable Order and most able-bodied soldier in all of Archanea. As is fitting, he has one of the strongest skills in the game "Blessed Lance Gradivus" which not only destroys all enemy units with cost 2 or less, but also powers him up for each one destroyed! 21. Thanks to the new Japanese Cipher source I was able to complete translations on the promo cards. Thankfully it wasn't too much work since many of the skills and names are the same, but there are a few differences between the promo and normal variants. I'm including my Chrom, Marth, and Lucina translations from a page or two back with the rest just to have all the promo cards in one place. 22. Oh man, that japanese wiki is an amazing resource! I'll need to update a few things in the Cipher Compendium, particularly adding in artist names and Card IDs I couldn't read before. Thanks for the share. I've been using multiple resources for names/terms in my translation work on the cards: http://fireemblem.wikia.com/wiki/Fire_Emblem:_Awakening/Translations http://fireemblem.wikia.com/wiki/List_of_characters_in_Fire_Emblem:_Shadow_Dragon http://old.serenesforest.net/fe13/namechart_legacy.html http://old.serenesforest.net/fe13/namechart.html http://serenesforest.net/general/localisation-changes/ Hope that helps! Any help translating cards is very much appreciated. I've been keeping the Cipher Compendium up to date as best as I can while not at work, but I'm missing a few cards that I couldn't read from images that were available. That Japanese wiki should help remedy that too!
  23. Apologies for the double post, but I finished another card translation. I meant to have this done earlier today, but work got pretty busy. This is the Swordmaster Lon'qu card that debuted on the Twitter this morning. He's quite good actually and is a force to be reckoned with if you set him up right. With as many sword-wielding units as there are in this game, it shouldn't be hard to beef up his attack quite considerably, and then you just go to town with his unavoidable attacks, provided you had enough bonds. Lon’qu (Stoic Swordsman) – Rarity: Starter Deck / Series 1 Booster Card #070 Cost: 3 / Promotion Cost: 2 Insignia: Awakening Affinities: Male / Sword Quote: “Were you unworthy, I would have left long ago.” Skill 1: CCS “Master of the Blade” / ∞ / This unit’s attack is increased by 10 for every allied sword-affinity unit. 24. The twitter updated last night with card intros for both the Lon'qu that was leaked in the Famitsu scans and his promoted counterpart. There's also some talk about an upcoming livestream event. https://twitter.com/FEcipher/status/608883440339943426 "[Card Introduction] Lon'qu is infamous for his hate of women, but is it really hate? 25. Thanks a bunch for the information audiotronica! Also thanks to CloudLink for getting the Starter Deck lists compiled! It's interesting, the Wrys card is a copy text-wise of the "Healing Priest, Wrys" card. Same skill "Vulnerary" and same Unit Name, Healing Priest. The exclusive parts are that he is a promoted Hero card instead of an unpromoted Priest and that can actually attack as an axe affinity unit with 60/10 attack instead of 30/20. The quote is also different, but I'm haven't quite gotten around to translating the Promo cards as of yet. The Cordelia Pegasus Knight card might also be a copy of a yet to be shown normal Cordelia Pegasus Knight card that should exist alongside her Dark Flier card if my understanding of the card release patterns is correct. This Walhart card is still something I'm extremely curious about. I don't remember where I found that picture unfortunately, and I can't make out too much of the Japanese on the card due to the poor image quality. It's obviously a defunct beta card of some sort, but why would they have made a Walhart card where that character isn't even on the card? Also the first skill looks like it reads something like "王女のカリスマ” which would be "Princess's Charisma" which just makes things even more confusing. There hasn't been any other indications that they plan to make another Walhart card, so we may not ever know.
