  1. I really like the concept that the anniversary sleeves were going for but I wish the background wasn't white; it doesn't look dynamic enough. That being said until they come out with sleeves of a Hector card or one of my other favorite characters I'll probably stick with those. On another note, I remember we got word that FE14 is changing up the way the weapon triangle works. I wonder if Cipher will mirror those changes and that's why we haven't gotten a lot of official details on Cipher's rules. I could see them going either way, sticking with the old rules or mirroring all the new mechanics from FE14. We are getting decks from a range of the games. What do yall think?
  2. Just as a general rule, it would be good form to contact the parties responsible for doing translation work before posting it somewhere else. I just want to go on the record that this sort of thing makes me extremely worried to post anything I do, as most people don't actually treat translation work with the same respect you would give any other work of creativity. I don't mean this to come down as a "don't steal work" kind of thing, but rather more of "I want to know where my work ends up being posted" since that's something I feel anybody who has worked on this translation process, and any other artistic endeavour deserves. Anyway, I do appreciate the enthusiasm. I can understand wanting to spread the word, so thanks for that! I don't mind you using it as you have, post facto, but I would hope you would at least ask in the future.
  3. Thanks a bunch for the spacer idea elipse! I've since added it to the new entries, which speaking of I have five new cards added to the Cipher Compendium. I didn't want to keep spamming up/double posting the thread since news is pretty quiet, so I just decided to wait and build up a few cards for this newest update. It's the five newest cards in the top of the spoiler tag below. I did have some notes on one card of the new batch. Wrys' Support Skill is called "Healer's Emblem" just like Maribelle, so I translated it out to match their respective classes instead of using the uninteresting sounding "Healer's Emblem". The weird thing here is that Wrys' version of this is functionally the same as Maribelle's, but has additional wording to clarify the parameters in which it is able to be used. Wrys' specifies "opponent" whereas Maribelle's simply said "attacker" but it's a defense support skill so it wouldn't be able to activate on your own turn anyway (besides who would want to prevent themselves from using critical hits?). They both function the same though, so I wonder which card has the most up-to-date wording in reference to the official cards. -Compendium Changelog- -Added Caeda, Abel, Athena, Olivia, and Wrys to “Completed” – 2015/5/13 -Added asterisk spacers between cards, thanks to eclipse – 2015/5/13
  4. Apologies for the double post. Alongside the updates to the "Spoils of War" spoiler compendium discussed before, I've also finished translation work on Vaike's card. I took some localization liberties instead of direct translations on the attack names to better effect I feel like. His first skill translates out to "fighter's expertise", but I wanted to follow something closer in flavor to the official localization work done in Awakening. It's interesting to note that his support skill's direct translation is really Attack Emblem, but I didn't really feel that flowed well, so I changed it to be his class though this might need to be reevaluated if another card that's not a fighter has this same skill. Vaike – Cost: 1 / Promotion Cost: N/A Affinities: Shepards / Male / Axe Quote: “The Vaike can handle anything!” Skill 1: “Teach’s Tenure” / ∞ / During your turn, this unit’s attack is increased by 20. Skill 2: N/A Attack Support Skill: “Fighter’s Emblem” / ♥ / Until the end of the attack phase, your attacking unit’s attack is increased by 20. Attack Power: 30 Support Attack Power: 10 Range: 1 Unpromoted Fighter Title: Hero from a Podunk Village Name: Vaike -Compendium Changelog- -Added Vaike to Completed and moved Tentative section to bottom – 2015/5/8 -Added Affinities, Cost, Promotion Cost, Attack and Support Attack values, thanks to DifferentFight and Dan – 2015/5/8 -Reworded “Sisterly Ties” again to maintain wording consistency – 2015/5/8 -Fixed typo on Nabarl’s Skill 2 – 2015/5/8 -Changed “Beginning phase” to Opening Phase in the Legend for α, thanks to Dan – 2015/05/08
  5. Much appreciated, but really this has been a team effort. I greatly appreciate the extremely extensive groundwork laid down by Dan and everyone else before I came on the scene. That first post made things much more easier having established a glossary of terms to work with. Then there are the many of you who have taken the time to read my work entirely and post your thoughts on how to make it sound better, which is more than I could hope for, so really thank you all! This is a great idea and I'll work on updating the "compendium" later on today. I'll also add the cost and promotion cost as per Dan's appended suggestion. Having all that added, the only thing left is the "affinities" on the left just below the costs. Obviously we have Dragon, Mark of Naga, and Falchion affinities which have been pretty well detailed due to the numerous abilities that center around those, and we also have some obvious pegasus/air born unit affinities for the flying unit we have so far, which will no doubt affect the damage those units take from archers. But, there are others that are strange like the obvious guy/girl affinities and the weapon affinities that we don't have much information on yet. I guess I can add them, if only in name, for now if only for informational purposes.
  6. In accordance with the official site update, I've updated the tentative section of the translation Spoiler Tag with Est and Catria's information. I'm only missing the quotes from their cards for a more complete translation. Thanks for spotting that, consider it updated! You are absolutely right, wording is key in card games. When compiling that list I tried to go back and edit the earlier translations to match the better wording established in other cards later, but I definitely missed some things. Another thing I tried to do is keep the single-Kanji-symbol system in place that the Japanese cards use to denote certain rules without taking up too much space, thus the Legend at the top. Let me know if anyone can think of better one character symbols that represent those ideas to a western audience...the "special" symbol in particular is one I imagine not as many people are familiar with and wouldn't immediately understand the meaning without having to consult a manual. There's definitely a distinct advantage that the Kanji system has in terms of readability, so that has been particularly nagging at me in terms of a complete localization of this TCG. -CHANGELOG- -Rewording on Chrom's Skill 2 thanks to eclipse -Changed the wording of the "Sisterly Ties" Skill to sound more natural/fluid -Added CSS and FS to the Legend -Added "Est" and "Catria" cards to Tentative section
  7. I've finally was able to piece together the last Kanji that were evading me on Tharja's Dark mage card: Tharja Quote: “I’ve always been quite good at choosing who to hate on my own…” Skill 1: “Flux” / α / [Tap this card, Flip 2 Bonds] Your opponent must choose one card from their hand and discard it. Skill 2: N/A Support Skill: N/A Range: 1-2 Unpromoted Dark Mage Title: The Bewitching Shaman from Plegia Name: Tharja Always great to see more people willing to translate! Thank you for offering up your services. This is pretty fortuitous timing, I just got done compiling all the translation work that has been done so far across the thread in one long Spoiler Tag. I'll try and keep updating it with new work as it gets completed.
  8. That definitely sounds better I think. I'm thinking about editing all of the card translations that we've done so far in one post just to recap and for better reference in the future. Things have been a bit busy at work lately, but I'm also wanting to try getting some more cards done, if even in a tentative state like I ended up having to do for Lodestar Marth. The more work done before the game is released means the quicker we can get this information out there for everybody. It's great to see increased sales for this game, I would love for it to see a wider release in other regions. The deck coloring system might not be something that is as strictly adhered later as it will be for the first few sets. I think later sets will just ingratiate into the pre-existing colors, but it will be interesting to see what they do for the first waves of this TCG.
  9. I went ahead and voted that either option was fine for me, because if it comes down to it and both wikis exist I don't mind my translation work being used on either. Essentially, whatever wiki(s) ends up being upkept, I'll contribute translation work to it/them. Speaking of translation work, I've been trying to piece together cards that don't have as good of a picture quality. I got one down pretty good, Great Lord Lucina, but others have been pretty difficult to determine some of the Kanji: Great Lord Lucina Quote: "We can change the future. We must..." Skill 1: "Defiant of Destiny" / Beginning Phase / Once per turn / [Flip 1 Bond, Discard 1 "Lucina" card from your hand] Draw 2 cards, then select one card from your hand and put it on top of your deck. When this card has been class changed then draw 3 cards, select 2 cards from your hand, and put them in any order on top of the deck instead. Skill 2: "Parallel Falchion" / ∞ / When this unit attacks a card with the dragon affinity this unit's attack is increased by 20. Support Skill: N/A Range: 1 Promoted Great Lord Title: Warrior from a Grim Future Name: Lucina Lodestar Marth This card's picture quality is just not quite good enough for me to reliable make out some important Kanji, so I can't reliably give translations of the quote and attack names, but the gist of the Skills are: Quote: "(?)" Skill 1: "Hero's (?)" / Beginning Phase / [Flip 3 Bonds, Discard 1 "Marth" card from your hand] Until the end of your opponent's next turn the attack of all your ally units is increased by 30. Skill 2: "Falchion" / ∞ / When this unit attacks a unit with the dragon affinity, this unit's attack is increased by 20. Range: 1 Promoted Lodestar Title: (?) Name: Marth
  10. My apologies for the late response, I had to undergo a surgery on Monday and have been recuperating ever since so I'm just now starting to catch up on things. By all means, I'm actually quite glad people are scrutinizing my translation work, it definitely needs proofreading and editing to be better just like with any other translation work! I hope no one takes my translations as the complete picture. Rather they are a place to start from in order to better ascertain what the official card might eventually look like. Back and forther discussion will help us all get there in the end. Regarding that suggested change for Nabarl, I think it sounds much more natural. A lot of times it's hard to divorce the sentence structure as it was in Japanese and rearrange it into English while also focusing on retaining the meaning, so a second opinion here really helps it sound better. Thank you! In terms of the wiki situation, I would be leaning towards the wikia if somehow lines of communication could be opened with those others involved in the wikia's constructrion alongside MaerynSen. No offense intended, but I just like communication to be freely available between all parties working on a project, especially one of such magnitude as a TCG.
  11. The name I registered on the wiki is the same as here as well: aubergine That layout is nice and quite readable. I'm also in the camp that doesn't mind which wiki ends up getting used, but it definitely would make more sense to dedicate all work to just one instead of having two both having to be updated. So, if either wiki's usage ends up leaving people out, we should stick with the wiki that allows the most people to work in unison with one another I feel. Anyway, I did end up finishing full translations of the 9 high quality pics from the gallery. Since there are four of them, I'm just going to put them in spoiler tags so that this post doesn't end up being a book. Maribelle Marth Tiki Nabarl
  12. Do we know what community of people have started in on that wikia? I definitely don't mind collaborating, but as was mentioned this community seems to have more information and people dedicated to the cause...but then again I don't know where these other folks doing the wikia are coming from to have proper reference. Also, I just finished Linde's card. There's been a request for the Lucina Great Lord card if I'm not mistaken? I'm hoping to get through the remainder of the nine in the Serenes gallery this weekend, but I can try to hop on that Great Lord card too. Linde Quote: "Father...your murderer will be brought to justice. I-I must vanquish Gharnef!" Skill 1: "Thunder" / Beginning Phase / Once per turn / [Flip one Bond] Until the end of this turn this unit's attack increases by 10. Skill 2: N/A Support Skill: "Mage's Emblem" / Support / Draw one card. Then, choose one card from your hand and place it in the discard pile. Range: 1-2 Unpromoted Mage Title: Daughter of Pontifex Miloah Name: Linde EDIT: Thanks and props to Ayra for the earlier work on this card's skills.
  13. This is pretty spot on. Chrom Quote: "Anything can change!" Skill 1: "Mark of Naga" / Always Active / For every other class changed unit on your battlefield this unit gains plus 10 to attack. Skill 2: N/A Support Skill: "Hero's Emblem" / Support / If the attacking unit has the Brand (affinity), then until the end of this attack phase that ally now destroys 2 orbs. Range: 1 Unpromoted Lord Title: Crown-prince of Ylisse Name: Chrom
  14. Well done on the translation of Palla's second skill. I've been so busy with work that I only got done doing work on her card today, but to add on to make the translation complete I do have the quote and description to offer as well as the names of the attacks and such. Apologies for repeat information. Palla Quote: Come, let's settle this! Triangle Attack!! Skill 1: FS / "Triangle Attack" / Supplementary / [This can only be performed while Catria and Est are in play and have not taken an action.] During this unit's attack, if you pay the cost for all 3 units then until the end of your attack phase this unit's attack power increases by 50 and cannot be avoided. Skill 2: "Sisterly Ties" / Always Active / If this unit has any level support with either Catria or Est, then add 10 points to this unit's attack. Support Skill: N/A Range: 1 Promoted Falcon Knight Title: Eldest of the Pegasus Sisters Name: Palla
  15. I am all in for helping out with translation work for a wiki. I actually don't have much experience building wikis or using HTML in general, so I'd have to leave that sort of thing to those better suited. My feelings on tentative translation work is that as long as it's on a wiki (where things are constantly being updated with new info) and people are aware that this is tentative work, then it shouldn't be received negatively. I feel like that's what wiki's are created for, they are almost always catalogs of unofficial information that goes ahead of and later includes official information and translation work. The other great thing about a wiki is that it is based in a community where people can proofread and double-check each other's work. We all come from a background of being fans of a certain series and each lend an unique viewpoint. For instance, I wasn't 100% confident in my translation of Gaius' assassinate skill, but once posted it was able to be scrutinized by you, Arya and a better understanding was reached. Since we are all pretty passionate about this, my thoughts are that eventually others will be to, and so a resource for those interested in Cipher will inevitably be necessary. Thanks Kirie and sofutoppai, it's great to see so many people willing to help scan those that they ordered, that should be a great help! I plan on scanning all of mine from the two starter kits and the one booster box I bought as well. Hopefully with everyone's help we can manage to put together a whole set of scanned cards eventually.
  16. Glad to be here, thanks for the kind regards! Now that I am looking at this again, you are correct that the Gaius player gets to choose if the top card is destroyed, but only if the Gaius player flips two bond cards. I misread that completely, thanks for that catch! Yeah, that would be extremely over powered for a 3/5 cost card. Yeah, I'll work on translating the Palla card next, that FS tag caught my eye as well. At some point after getting through the gallery cards I might ask and see if it would be alright to see some of the other translatable card images. EDIT: Well, I finished translating the FS skill. The katakana above it turned out to be フォーメーションスキル, so Palla's first skill reads: FS (Formation Skill) / Triangle Attack / Supplementary (I'm looking for a better word to use here, the general idea shared between this and Gaius' that has the same Kanji symbol is that is requires something else in order to activate) / [This skill can only be performed while Catria and Est are in play and have not taken an action.] If you pay the cost during your attack phase (I'm guessing it means you have to pay the attack cost for all 3 units), then until the end of the attack phase this unit's attack increases by 50 and cannot be avoided even by a Heavenly Dodge.
  17. I am definitely up for translating more of these cards, and a better catalogged system would be fantastic. I'll try and compile all the information from the previous pages of the thread and see what is already done to avoid doing translations that have already been done. Perhaps until a better system specifically for the cards is in place we could make a sole thread dedicated to that? My only hesitation there is that then for new information it would be split across a third thread on top of this one and the "Livestream...Sneak Peek" thread. I too pre-ordered one each of the two starter decks and a booster box, but I definitely won't be able to buy more for a while due to money. I'd definitely love to get another booster box though...I do feel like there will be a decent amount of cards in this set that will probably necessitate multiple booster box purchases in order to secure them all. That and there's not much known about the rarity system this TCG might have as well.
  18. Oops, that's a mistake on my part. It should read "3 or more" instead of "more than 3". So that would actually include 3 cost cards as well, which makes it a bit more viable. Glad to find this community and finally be a part of it. I'll do what I can to help translate stuff!
  19. Greetings all. I honestly never knew about the lively forums surround the Fire Emblem community until just recently, glad to finally be here. I caught Fire Emblem fever back with FE7 on the GBA and instantly found my favorite franchise and have since played through all of the US releases as well as a few pre-7. I work as a professional translator these days, but I dabble in game localization in my spare time. Fire Emblem if and Cipher have really rekindled my interest in the series' presence over in Japan as well as across the globe. Anyway, I hope I can come to contribute something useful here. Hope to see everyone around.
  20. Sorry to barge in since I just joined relatively recently, but I've been working on translating the few cards that have high enough res pics that were available on the gallery. So far I've completely translated Lucina's and I'm currently working on Gaius with only the quote untranslated. I hope some of this might help figure out the rules more, especially Gaius' card because it seems pretty complex compared to Lucina's. I'm going from top to bottom on the card in terms of the sections. These are pretty direct translations, though I have tried to retain some of the stylization of the names of attacks and the Character Descriptions. My apologies for any repeat information. Lucina Quote: Marth...my name is Marth. Skill 1: "Name of the Hero King" / Special / Treat this card as if the name is Marth. Skill 2: "Parallel Falchion" / Always Active / When this unit attacks a dragon affinity card, this unit's attack increases by 20 points. Support Skill: "Hero's Emblem" / Support / If the attacking unit has the Brand affinity, then until the end of this attack phase the orbs it will destroy is now 2. Range: 1 Unpromoted Lord Title: The swordsman known as Marth. Name: Lucina Gaius Quote: Hmm, I'll take the job but the reward better be sweet. Skill 1: "Assassinate" / Beginning Phase / Reveal the top card of the opponent's deck. If that card's cost is 3 or more, then you can choose to flip two Bonds in order to destroy that card. Skill 2: CCS / "Just Desserts" / Supplementary / If this unit successfully assassinates an opponent's card, draw one card. (CCS: If this unit was placed without the promotion unit cost, this skill is inactive). Support Skill: N/A Range: 1 Promoted Assassin Title: The Sweetest Assassin. Name: Gaius EDIT: Some further notes. The Assassinate skill requires you to "tap" or switch the card to the side, which means it wouldn't be able to do a normal attack in the same turn. CCS stands for Class Change Skill (Katakana above it reads クラスチャンジスキル).
