I think fury stops you from being otk'd, like my ike with fury 3 has 35 def so he can tank lance units and hit back hard due to his high atk, having a staff user on your team for chain battles mitigates the the long term affect of self damage, life and death is better on ranged units as you can control who initiates on them better but I gave fury 3 to linde because of desperation I think its funny how you bring up the term 'immortal' I gained an appreciation for def stat because my +def hector has been a god send, it has made me realise the importance of having a tank unit. but u guys think legion is a worth while unit when compared to alternate chrom, xander & my custom barst? I thought the atk and spd is close enough to justify them cuz of the big difference in def and I thought def is useful for getting your units to tank/bait the opponent's units, but u guys are saying thats only worthwhile if your unit has ridiculous defense and theres not much difference between ok and very good def?

At the start of the game I think this is very true but with the introduction of chain battles, defense missions and with some of the infernal maps I need units with some bulk, its why I prefer fury over life & death so units don't get one shoted, my Linde is one of my most valued units but anything can killer her sev a red tome/dragon unit

I think Legion is a bit too much of a glass cannon, I think hes good only because he comes with fury but don't want to invest the 5* promotion on him. reason I'm curious is because I've got a 4* Barst with +Atk&-Res, and I've got a killer axe+ lying around to give, but with my xander am do I need 5* Barst or or is 5* Barst better. Barst only has a few points in atk and spd less than Legion but Barst was way more defense (excluding the fury)

kk will remember nxt time, also I thought Soren's watersweep would make her more favorable over nino since their stats are so close
-
I have: 3* nino: -hp : +atk 4* Soren: -res : +spd 4* Merric -res : +atk 4* Boey -spd : +atk I've been saving my feathers but I don't want to spend too much promoting more units to 5* than I need, I've gotten a lot of Ninos but this is the first one I've gotten thats got a positive offense stat and no negative offense stat however Soren has very similar stats to Nino, with plus spd and minus res Soren matches Nino's base speed and res, Nino will have a few points in atk but Soren has more hp and access to watersweep. I've got a 5* Robin so I know how useful it can be to have a physical tanky mage but whether to pick Boey or Merric, my Boey has abysmal speed but it might be worth teaching him weary fighter from my 4* Effie, Merric has less atk but his higher speed may allow him to double slower more tanky enemies. what do you guys think who is worth promoting to 5*

A question about skills
Raybrand replied to Tori Torrible's topic in Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia
Sorry I'm a bit confused I need to phase my question a bit better, if I want a character to use 'swap' they have to have the leather shield equipped and can use it immediately but when they have used the leather shield enough does that character become able to use the skill without leather shield or other equipment? Or is it where the character equips the leather shield then when the character uses it enough the character can then use swap but only if they have the leather shield or other equipment with that skill?- 8 replies

A question about skills
Raybrand replied to Tori Torrible's topic in Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia
How do skills work? do you learn skills when you use the equipped weapon enough times or do skills only work when you have the corresponding weapon equipped- 8 replies

I remember reading that the original version didn't have the weapon triangle and that since the original game didn't have axe wielding classes adding weapon triangle to the new version would have been awkward. I'm worried that if you have 1 or 2 units that are total powerhouses then they essentially have no weakness in battle, nothing would really worry you except for sheer numbers. Thats been my experience with previous FE games that when I just focus on 4~5 units they can clear the whole game without threat so long as they lookout for their weapon weakness or resistance/defense. But I believe it when you say its not noticeable they probably re-balanced the stats and I remember weapon triangles are most of the time to your advantage rather than the enemy's. I'm willing to give the game a try, I think its good that theres a new installment with a slightly new take on the mechanic but i did like having an extra variable to consider when forming a strategy.

Hi, every fire emblem game I've played has included the weapon triangle, as far as I know weapon triangle has been a cornerstone mechanic for the series and a lot of the strategy and decision making involved is based on the weapon triangle, so I'm not sure how I'm supposed to enjoy the game without it.

Child units are "better" than their parents?
Raybrand replied to Just call me AL's topic in Fire Emblem Fates
so child units are only better when it comes to their max potential which because of a limited amount of missions you can only train them so far and train just as few to that extent, also the child units have limited starting classes, and corin, ryoma and xander are the exception due to their unique weapon, is that right? -
Child units are "better" than their parents?
Raybrand replied to Just call me AL's topic in Fire Emblem Fates
So in fates how are the children's max stats calculated? because in fates its pretty definitive they outclass their parents but I herd the mechanic was mostly the same, so how how are the children stats calculated? doesn't this snippet of an example parent/child formula from this site prove that the children units will always have better stats than their parents Character Str Mag Skl Spd Lck Def Res Jakob 2 -2 2 0 -1 0 -1 Azura 0 0 1 3 0 -3 0 Shigure/Dwyer 3 -1 4 4 0 -2 0 so how can most child units be worse than their parents? -
Replaying Fates: How to rebalance parent and child units
Raybrand replied to Raybrand's topic in Fire Emblem Fates
This is my response, I added some calculations to show that I believe the +2 skill is a fair skill to use to re-balance the units, but I haven't used child units in fates so I don't know if the problem is fixed but I've herd the mechanic hasn't changed from awakening. -
Child units are "better" than their parents?
Raybrand replied to Just call me AL's topic in Fire Emblem Fates
A thread I started on how should I re-balance parent and child units. I avoided child units in fates because it didn't seem to fit in with the story and I thought that it would make me bench the main characters for being weaker than their children. In Awakening I gave the parent units the "All Stats +2" skill when units started reaching max stats, and I had a good experience. Here are some calculations: Chrom Great Lord (M): 80 54+00+51+52+56+51+49 = 313 (total ignoring hp & mag) Chrom Great Lord (M): 80 56+00+53+54+58+53+51 = 325 (+2) Lucina Great Lord (F): 80 50+00+56+59+57+48+51 = 321 Lon’qu Swordmaster: 80 48+00+57+59+55+41+46 = 306 Lon’qu Swordmaster: 80 50+00+59+61+57+43+48 = 318 (+2) Severa Swordmaster: 80 50+00+60+62+55+42+46 = 315 Vaike Dread Firghter: 80 55+46+51+52+54+49+51 = 358 Vaike Dread Firghter: 80 57+48+53+54+56+51+53 = 372 (+2) Yarne Dread Firghter: 80 58+46+54+56+54+51+51 = 370 The child units also gain skill inheritance so I think the "All Stats +2" skill evens things out nicely, but not sure how to apply this re-balancing in fates since the +2 skill doesn't exist. -
How Would You Tweak Awakening?
Raybrand replied to Interdimensional Observer's topic in Fire Emblem: Awakening
pair up system needed some tweeking. child units shouldn't outclass parent units in every way i.e. make it so that the parent also gains the modifications to their max stats and growth rates based on their wife/husband so that you not only customising your child unit but there is also some customising to the parent units as well. story needs better presentation - good overall concept but should have been more surprising or more of a twist that when lucina came to the past future robin followed her and changed certain events that conflicts with lucina's recollection, should have built up more that future robin is the main villain as opposed to what it by leaving no alternative theory. Also should add a bit more sophistication to to Grima and how to beat him, i.e. future robin succumbed to its power and embraced and when he traveled to the past with lucina Grima's power was divided between the two Robins as it saw them both as equal vessals, thus causing Robin's amnesia from the shock of the transference of power. From poast Robin's experience he should have deduced that he could be capable of turning Grima's power against its self rather than being told (Robin suggest a quest to obtain a Grima tome that only he would be able to use). evil robin may have deduced this possibility and try to merge or erase original robin in previous battles which would have been a mystery until later in the game. etc -
"80% of it's Initial Shipment" what does that mean when compared to awakening and fates sales? my personal feelings - overall I liked awakening and fates but there where big story problems and some issues that separated these games from the older fire emblem games so I don't want there to be a bad message saying the new fire emblem game changed its formula from fates and awakening and was less successful

Hi, I plan on replaying the 3 fates campaigns and on this play though I'm wondering how should I go about making child and parent units more even. In awakening when units started approaching max level I only allowed parent units to equip the "All Stats +2" to make them more even. In both Fates and Awakening it felt really silly that these characters who have direct relationships to the main characters/royal family and directly involved in the current events are less suited to combat than their kids who have much less personal stake (at least not until the third half of the game). In Fates I all together avoided child units, it felt wrong that I should be at a disadvantage for not replacing my parent unit with child units even despite the that it is much more the parent's fight than the later generation's fight. However there is plenty of space for both parent and child units and I would like to try and design my own child units without feeling the need to abuse the mechanic or rely on them more than any other unit. But going through the list of skills I'm not sure how to rebalance the units without the "All Stats +2" I don't think there is one single skill that can make their stats and ability more even. Wish they made a dlc with parent exclusive skills or equipment.

Hi Been enjoying testing out the Skill inheriting mechanic but for my lv40 units i don't have enough sp to buy the skills I inherited, Killing a unit only grants you only 3 sp is there a better way to earn sp?
