  1. I am mostly bothered with what I have seen so far. Glad I imported when I had the chance. -Voice acting is good for the most part, but there are a few who are pretty bad (Felicia and Hinoka for instance). Even some of the good ones also don't really fit the character, or at least change the audiences perception of who the character is supposed to be (Marx voice being to high, taking away a lot of his nobility and severeness, Takumi's voice actor is not really bringing the insecure teenager vibe across). This is why dual audio removal is even worse. - At least Live2D is in in some form, but some very nice lines that add a lot of personality are gone now. Shame really. - The last time I forgave a game for lacking proper lip-synch was Final Fantasy X, 15 years later this is just baffeling. And now for the biggest flaw: Changes to the script. And not in the "let's flesh out the story" way, but by removing certain lines that make characters more sympathetic. I know they only mean well by making the Hoshidans more grey, but the way they are going about it will turn off a lot of people new to the game. And don't get me started on them changing Takumi, an already flawed and grey character. If they aren't more careful they might as well cancel Birthright as a stand-alone version. And some of the other changes (more than a few of the names) seem to have been just for the sake of changing it, which is pretty bad. Unless they fix some of the more glaring issues in the japanese version, I have to say that this localisation is very bad.
  2. First, let's talk about the names I don't like: Personally the Nohrian name changes are mostly just pet peeves to me. Marx -> Xander reminds me of the Zander fish. The name sounds a bit incomplete, and yes, they were trying to match mouth flaps, but Alexander just sounds much more regal. At least they didn't go with Alex. Otherise it is fine. Leon -> Leo, such a small change, but it feels really unnecessary. Leon is a normal name were I come from. Leo sounds like his parents were too cool for school and tried to be edgy. It's still alright however. Lazward -> Laslow, the one name I actually wanted to be changed. My idea was something like Lapis. Instead they went for an even weirder name. Zero -> Niles, one I find really awful. Niles is a name I expect on people aged sixty and up. Harold -> Arthur, I have no idea why they didn't want him to be named Harold. That would have worked much better than yet another Arthur. Benoit -> Benny, the headcanon helps, but it still feels too on the nose. Now with the Hoshidans, some of them actually tick me off a lot. Kazahana, Suzukaze and Mozume -> Hana, Kaze and Mozu, It feels slightly insulting and in Mozu's case it makes her sound like a guy to me (and a very male Boss Number 3 was named like this in Japanese). Tsubaki -> Subaki, again with the insults to our intelligence. Nishiki -> Kaden, just why. This is literally the worst. A japanese fox spirit named like a wasp boy. Shara -> Rhajat, ugh unfitting and unnecessary. I dislike names based on anagrams. Caeldori -> Like above, only worse. But I do like Nina for Eponine. Even with the lost literary referance, I just really love that name. The rest I am either fine with in the end, or I just don't care.
  3. OrochixKagerou They are an item and you won't convince me otherwise. *ahem* Lots of my other favourites involve Takumi though haha. Takumi/Sakura, because it's about precious siblings opening up to each other about their insecurities. Takumi/Hinoka, because it is filled with angry, teenaged sibling bickering. LeonxTakumi, because their chemistry is really, really good. Like insanely good Takumi/Mozume, because an angry prince dealing with physical labor is amusing to me. I also love how Mozume refuses to be cowed by his ranting in the c-support, and then she is the one to confess in the s. Takumi/Kazahana, is just hands down hilarious and utterly adorable. Takumi/Camilla, same as above. Takumi/Aqua, but only until the second half of s-rank, I don't really like them together romantically. Non Takumi supports are: Marx/Sakura, is very very sweet. Hinoka/Leon, though I am probably the only one who likes it. I think it is great. Ryouma/Sakura, really really cute and with some backstory. Matoi/Shinonome, too bad I usually make them cousins, so I don't s-rank them. Oboro/Zero, it's my favourite pairing for her. Setsuna/Harold, is just hilarious Charlotte/Saizou, same Any supports regarding the Nohr sibs that talk about the concubines. And the Ryouma/Crimson support that exists only inside my head.
  4. No it's TAH-koo-mee. The stress is on the first syllable and I am certain that they pronounced it like that in the japanese version since I have been playing it..
  5. Even if you want Hoshido to be more grey, there are plenty of ther characters to go for. Going for Takumi just devalues his very much justified misgivings with Kamui. Even if you take in account, he already feels a lot more aggressive in chapter 5. I thought we wanted more depth and not less.
  6. Sorry, but making Takumi seem more bad isn't going to improve shit on Conquest. Takumi was already a deeply flawed character and arguably the most realistic Hoshidan. Making him more of an unreasonably racist scumbag isn't the solution. You aren't greying a white character, you are painting a grey one black. Takumi didn't need that treatment.
  7. So.. there are already some pretty big dialogue changes. Just look at Takumi right here: "Nohrians aren't like normal, decent people. They live for the thrill of battle. I shall delight putting those cowards in their place.[..] Agreed, It's never a good idea to underestimate ones enemies. I refuse to lose the Nohrians, especially with that traitor among their ranks. We must prevail for the sake of Hoshido and all that is good in the world!" Meanwhile in the japanese version he says: "An ambush, is it? Well, I expected no less of them. We won’t run away with our tails between our legs. It’s what they want.[..] That’s right. But be on your guard. I don’t want to lose to that traitor… We will win. This is Hoshido’s justice." I mean, the sessence of what he is saying is the same, but they are really making him sound much more openly racist towards Nohr. Now I won't deny that he has racist views towards Nohr, especialy when he is ranting at Kamui and Aqua in the beginning. But it feels really overdone and gratuitous in the English version.
  8. I am very indifferent towards Setsuna and Tsubaki. Their personalities don't do anything for me and there are better options out there. As for kids, I am not very fond of Hisame, he is too mellow.
  9. It says gay conversion, so there is currently no reason to assume they will censor anything concerning the gay options as well.
  10. Uh, I am pretty sure Hisame is male.. Anyway, for the men I voted Takumi, because he is my overall favourite anyway. For the girls I voted Orochi, and I thought I'd be the only one, but I am glad to have been wrong.
  11. He would definitly harm them. The 'Making of book' specifically says in Leon's profile that he believes Garon would kill his kids off in a heartbeat if they got in his way. Remember we are talking Slime!Garon here, who the royals think is a Garon that has changed a lot during the passing years. Real!Garon likely would have never harmed his kids, but that doesn't go for Slime!Garon and the royals are smart enough to know this (even if they don't know he is a slime). In fact both Leon and Camilla state at different points in the other routes that Garon would have them executed in a heartbeat if they returned to Nohr after being defeated by Kamui. As for the Ganz thing, yes they are certainly culpable of inaction, but the royals are also very careful in subverting Garon's orders in such a way as to not be noticed. Ganz and Macbeth are acting under direct orders from Garon, and openly defying them, while there is big a chance for Garon to find out about it, would get them into major trouble very quickly. Remember how Marx tries to make them stand down while entering the Hoshidan capital? He immediately stops when they bring up that they are just doing what Garon wants them to do, and that word of his defiance could reach him very quickly (since he is also present). Subverting Garon's orders is a very dangerous game, one that the Nohrian royals only reliably play when it comes to Kamui (and probably each other, but we only really see the Kamui side of things sadly). Is that morally reprehensible of them? Certainly, but it does make sense for them to act the way they do. I don't think the game lacks logical explanations as to why the royals act the way they do, it is just really bad at implemementing them into the actual story. Now Kamui is where the game truly fails, because they are never allowed to break out of the cliched JRPG!Hero persona, in a setting where such behaviour should have gotten them killed twenty times over, while having everyone's (even those who should know better) praise and unquiestioning devotion.
  12. During skinship the movement does manage to convey emotions and personalities decently for the most part. (at least from what I have seen) Still too much motion going on all the time though. The confessions however really are too short and mostly feature them bobbing around like crazy. So yeah, the stills were definitly better.
  13. Could someone tell me which secondary class is best when marrying Orochi? I was thinking it would be great for her to have Defensive Formation, but getting her through three levels of General sounds like a real pain.
  14. If you are going for optimal, I suggest swichting Hana and Oboro. Shino and Kisaragi already inherit Samurai and Lancefighter from their dads, so they wouldn't gain anything new. Oboro!Shino is the best Shinonome you can get, and Kazahana makes for a pretty great Kisaragi.
  15. Since I am in my twenties, my imaginiation of each characters age tends to be on the higher side. Ryouma and Marx look and act to me like they are at least in their mid to late twenties. Hinoka seems around twenty, while Camilla seems like in her early twenties (I headcanon her as 23) The younger brothers feel like they are between 17 and 18. Elise acts like she is 11, but is most likely meant to be 13/14, while Sakura is around 14 or 15. Given how Japan tends to make everyone ridiculously young, I am pretty sure those are quite off the mark. Regardless it hardly matters, since the ages weren't even stated in the Making of book so it's unlikely we will ever know for sure. But yeah, Camilla being 17 is quite a hilarious thought. That would mean the younger brothers are around 14 or 15 and the little sister would be even younger. Didn't the interview about Camilla's design state that she is actually meant to be younger than her design makes her seem? I doubt they meant her to that young though.
  16. Dear gods, what were they thinking? They shorten Mozume to Mozu, probably because it is "hard to pronounce" or something silly like that. Which is already stupid but THEN they just use Beruka? What is the logic behind that? Someone tell me please. And Selena for Severa is like the least useful code name. Just imagine her in My Room going "I can't tell anyone else, but my real name isn't Selena.. it's SEVERA!! Now you know my most well-hidden secret." Niles is simply ridiculous. That's a name for an accountant or other door to door salesman. What was wrong with Zero anyway?
  17. Don't know what prompted this, but whatever floats your boat I guess. I forgot to add my opinion about Rinka and Kaze. Rinka sounds quite good to me, just a bit unfamiliar. Kaze's voice clips are too few to judge for certain, but it does sound a bit off.
  18. Sakura and Ryouma are pretty good. Camilla, Leon and Mikoto were alright, although I have to get used to them more before I can truly judge. Hinoka is eh, Azura is a bit too high-pitched (that one giggle of hers sounded fake as hell) Garon was a bit too stereotypical. Elise and Marx sounded way better than in the E3 trailer. Marx still needs a deeper voice but whatever. Corrin doesn't sound very good. Way too artificial. Now with Takumi, I don't think the voice is crap or anything, but his whole characterization comes off as a bit.. wrong. His mistrust of Kamui is definitly justified, but the reason behind him also shouting at Azura and being so aggressive about it, is that deep down he is also a very insecure young man who feels threatened by the 'outsiders' presence in his family. This is one of the main reasons I love his character so much. I feel the translation makes him come across as way too confident and more grown up, which in turn destroys a lot of his character motivation and depth. Hope this isn't going to go into Henry territory.
  19. Ryouma and Sakura sounded fine to me, if a bit strange since I got so used to the japanese voices for them. Marx and Elise though.. Marx needs to sound much deeper and put a bit more emotion into it, at least for that scene. Konishi managed to perfectly convey Marx's repressed uncertainty with the "Return to us" line. Whoever the English voice actor is sounded really disinterested to me. Elise made my ears bleed. Yes, her japanese voice was high pitched too, but in a way that didn't make me want to turn down the sound. It also made her come across as really bratty, and not in the way she sometimes was in the original version. More like someone took her toy from the sandbox and now she is demanding it back. Hope it sounds different in the actual game, or I'll hope for dual audio.
  20. I find so much of myself in Takumi it sometimes scares me. Well okay, I have trouble openly showing negative feelings towards people I don't know very well (or start a conversation with them in the first place), so you would probably mistake me for Sakura a lot. In terms of actual habits I am probably more like Mitama though.
  21. Depends on how much of it and what kind you inherit. With the one Alexei Romanov had you were certainly not going to get very old back in the days before modern medicine.
