    All links are down

Hi, I removed the files from my Mega account a while ago, since they are outdated and I'm not part of the team anymore.
See the other thread I've linked below for updated contents.

Does this work with luma + layeredfs ? And if I only have the physical copy of Birthright but the rest digitally, would this still work for all 3 routes?

Please continue all conversation in this thread:

First of all, you guys are great for doing this. I loved Fates, but the horrible localization left a bad taste in my mouth. I'm not sure if this has been answered, but I was wondering: why are you only doing the first 20 chapters in each route?

? We finished all three paths. You might be mistaken, because of the 27 chapters in each path, chapters 0-6 are the same regardless of what path you choose.

Sorry if my questions are a little dumb.. but I just had a couple. I wanted to play the translated, unlocalized version but I've never done anything along these lines. So here is my questions... hopefully someone will be nice enough to answer them..

    1. Can I use my English special edition cart for this? (say dumping the rom) Will the revelations part be able to be used with this patch if so?

    2. If I go an alternate route.. can I use digital download of the english or japanese collectors? Which route would essentially be easier?

    Thank you in advance.

    1. Yes, but there should be a separate version of the patch files designed specifically for Fates to account for some minor and some major internal file structure changes. I'd ask on GBATemp since the team is probably busy with university right now. Since you have the special version of Fates, Revelations is already on-cart, so I'd definitely refer to GBATemp for some more advice. (Sorry, I don't remember the patching details anymore tbh..).

    2. Not sure what you're asking since you said you had the special edition of Fates, so you should already have all 3 paths locally on your cart. Assuming you don't, yes, you can technically patch the digital downloads, but it's quite a bit more complicated.

I looked around this thread, didn't see if this was discussed.

The main story is all done and revamped with the latest 4.2 release.  A weight off your shoulders, I'm sure.

Thinking for a while, I wonder if there were any plans to use Treehouse's translation as 'filler' for the other parts not quite finished, such as the 2nd gen supports, and My Castle.  I realize with the Hoshidan and Nohrian Festivals, that is understandably not an option.  However, with the DLC that did make it over, it's at least a placeholder, until you can get time to rework it.

Has that been discussed as an option, or would that cause you more work in the long run?

At least like, a year ago (lol) we didn't plan on using Treehouse's translation to "fill" in untranslated files. It's definitely an option that isn't technically too complicated to implement, lol.

Hey Guys, first of all I'd like to thank for all the hard work given in this amazing project, seen as Treehouse pooped on our game with lame jokes an useless censorship. Seriously, I love you Team If.

But I wanted to know if there's a way to use your translation with the "Fire Emblem Fates Expanded Same-Sex Marriage Patch [WIP]" by  "UnassumingVenusaur" of Gbatemp, and if there's any incompatibilities.

In advance, thank you very much <3

I'm not sure of the technical details of his patch, but from a high-level view I don't think it would be incompatible. His patch shouldn't have to alter any story-related files, moreso the internal game engine/system itself. We also were able to use the patch when one of our own turned Chrom/Lissa/Frederick into playable characters, so it definitely shouldn't be impossible, but may require a little more nuancing to patch.

--Take all of this with a grain of salt, I don't work for the team anymore lol

Do have any updates on the project? it's been over a month since the last one.

I do not speak for the team (as I am no longer with them), but I know many of the members should have recently or are just about starting university again. Last year this happened too, and we became incredibly busy with our own personal lives, so if the releases are delayed, likely it happened again. Just give them a bit of time! :)

  5. Hi guys do you have a Discord channel?

It's disappointing how this project isn't having much attention anymore, probably most of people already finished the game multiple times and don't care about it anymore..

Heya. We do, but it's only for current and former members of Team If. We do not take guests, but if you would like to work, send me a PM here.

Any way how to contact the group? I would like to help correct the wrong grammar and fix the sentences so it does not go beyond the text box or maybe re-structure the sentences yet. I've tried PM-ing the OP but no reply yet...maybe he's busy but I dunno. Any help would be appreciated!

OP has been busy recently, but we're always recruiting! Send me a pm.

  6. Hi guys. Just joined to ask this question: If I just install the undub patch, that won't require me to start a new game or anything will it? It's just changing sound files I'd have thought so I don't think it would but I'm just making sure. Also, is this a cia I put on the 3DS' SD card and apply to an already installed game? Do I have to use HANS even just for the undub and will the undub work on digital versions of the game? I know you talk about this in the OP and linked documents but I don't know if that's for the restoration as a whole and wouldn't affect me just installing the undub.

It's possible to make HANS work on digital versions; that was discussed somewhere back (but it's pretty hard).

A .cia is basically a rom that's as if you downloaded it from the eshop - you'll need to install it using something like fbi or bbm in your emunand (and then restore your game saves). (A .cia is NOT like an update file to an existing game).

You can choose between using HANS (which is homebrew and doesn't require an emunand) and an emunand, but if you have a digital copy, installing a emunand and then the cia is basically the easier path to go. (You'll need to pick one if you want to use the undub).

Make sure you backup your saves anyways.

  7. Hey guys, I hope everyone is doing well and having fun with their games. I think I'm just about ready but I haven't played yet. I just completed downgrading to 9.2 and installing ReiNand as my cfw.

Now am I supposed to unlink the sysnand and emunand? And/or unlink my nintendo ID?

I have created the .cia file for my game, do I have to run the game from ReiNand/Emunand everytime I play the game?

Thanks for taking time to help me guys, I really appreciate it!

You don't have to unlink it, but it can be useful depending on what you'd need it for.

Yes, you have to run from your emunand (Reinand) everytime to run the modified .cia of Fire Emblem: Fates.

  8. Hello everyone. This might be a dumb question(sorry if it is), but I was wondering how to check out the progress of the content restoration? As I am interested in picking up Fates during my stay in Poland. Thank you very much, keep up the good work, fixing the crap that Nintendo decided to screw up royally(Thanks Treehouse!)

Team If doesn't publicly make available progress of the restoration beyond what's written in the OP / forums, but the new administration might be willing to make a public record. Ask ShandySheikah if you'd like a record.

  9. (hey uh this isn't directly related to the fanslation but how are you all actually editing the text files? I don't have anything that can open them in a readable state but I figure with the volume of stuff you've been doing (kudos) you must have some fairly easy way?)

I'm not affiliated with the team anymore (nor do I want to be) and I'm not around here anymore but..

They have a whole dump of the game's files that were converted into .txt files, which are then edited (I used sublime text 3, as did a bunch of others) in a text editor, then repacked as a patch and inserted into the game.

Editing checks, which we used to have to do in-game a year ago, are now checked in SciresM's FEITS (SciresM is also a part of the team) before being packed.

  10. Hey guys, the work that's been done in this thread looks great! But... it was impossible to get my hands on a special edition. I'm stuck with the whole digital versions problem. Can we get a digital copies guide please? It would be great to enjoy this game the way so many already have.

Digital versions are much more complicated, and your average hacker wouldn't be able to come close. Sorry, but we can't even make a guide :/

  11. in the tutorial it said that hans may not be able to recognize dlc does that include the story routes because that's the only dlc I care about particularly as long as I can buy the physical copy and download the other routes and have the patch work with them then im good with that don't want to use anything other than hans since im not comfortable using anything other than homebrew thanks in advance and also this project is amazing try not to work yourselves to hard over the face touching stuff its a nice addition but not worth stressing over :)

    Commas, man.

Yes, the other routes are counted as DLC. If you have a special edition, everything is already on-cart, but if you only have a cart for one route, that route will be the only thing you can patch.
