  1. The Fire Emblem is actually a plot point for 1 chapter in Blazing Blade. It still isn't much and doesn't really matter to the overall story, but it's more than SoV gets. I'm pretty sure the Fire Emblem is not held by Rausten, but by Grado (Lyon's country).
  2. A few maps come to mind; - FE7 that chapter in early Hector mode where you defend against the assassins. Mostly fun because it's a change of pace. - FE9 that chapter where you defend the Greil merc base. I just love that feeling of defending your home, then slowly breaking through the ranks to have Ike take out the boss. - FE10 chapter 3-13, yeah I actually like this one. You get a bunch of balistea, Micaiah gets a seige tome and a physic staff for strategic support, you get to (sort of) control a larger army. It may be slow and the AI is stupid, but I really like trying new strategies here. (Plus Fiona's only use; strategically dropping yellow soldiers into the fight.)
  3. So glad I'm keeping up with this thread. As I said before I really dislike how Alear looks, but with multiple people pointing out how it does fit the world, I'm seeing it as less of a bad thing. Also being reminded that previous games had avatar customization, we might be able to change that hair. After all, the cutscenes are now 3d and any model could be inserted. And we already know we can change outfits. I'm getting more and more optimistic about this game. As for the amnesia story, wouldn't it be cool if the evil fell dragon was actually Alear, and the rings were used against him to put him to sleep. Obviously not going to happen, but I can see now that there's really cool stuff they can do with it. Here's to hoping they will.
  4. When Robin first dropped, I hated getting a self-insert that was more than a background character. The design didn't bother me much, but I wasn't the biggest fan. After playing the game I didn't mind Robin as much, his personality was pretty fitting for a player self-insert into a stratgey game. His design I got used to very easily. Only thing I still disliked was him being a "chosen one", which I don't really like for a main character in a game. Then there came Corrin, Yet another chosen one self insert, this time with an even more ridiculous outfit. Getting this design made me appreciate Robin so much more. Playing the game I found out both the characters and the story were terrible, but the gameplay I liked and I decided to solely focus on that. It was fine after shifting my focus. After a great SoV we went back to chosen one self insert hell with the first trailers for Three Houses. Again I hated the self insert design with Byleth, but I really liked the rest of the character designs so I gave it a chance. It is now one of my favorite games. Byleth being a silent protagonist really helps pushing the rest of the cast forward, and I got used to the design fairly easily. And now, first trailer for Engage, I'm not certain Alear is a self insert (did we get that confirmed? Or is he just our lord?) but he certainly is a chosen one. And I find the design even more ridiculous than the previous 3 combined. We haven't seen anything on his personality yet so I can't speak for that, but the design is so cringe. I've heard someone say it looks like a 12 year old's fanfic OC on Deviantart, and that's exactly how it feels for me. (Not that there's anything wrong with fanfic OCs from 12 year olds on dA, but it is wrong when they appear as main character in a mainline FE game.) But it seems like some people actually do like him, so I guess I'll let it slide. It seems like there actually are other characters I might like, which is more than I can say for Fates, and the gameplay looks good. No use dwelling on the main character's design when there's seemingly better stuff to focus on.
  5. On the "Pegasus Knights using different weapons", I'm secretly hoping they're doing the same thing as I'm doing in my system; having mounts as equipables. Equiped during combat preparations, you could equip your soldier class unit with a Pegasus to have them be a Pegasus Knight wielding a lance, or your Myrmidon for a Pegasus Knight wielding a sword. Etc. Riders might even be able to build a support level with their mounts to improve their teamwork. The amount of wyvern knights would be limited by the amount of wyverns you have (and then through DLC give more wyverns for people who want to go oops all wyverns).
  6. Exactly this, this is why my list included all weapons from their respective original games. Awakening plays out in Archanea, giving her Magvel's Nidhog, or some Heroes only weapon just doesn't quite cut it for me. Awakening itself gave her the ability to wield bows too you know, reclassing is a thing there. But yeah, granted, taking her design from heroes already, other heroes-only stuff can happen too.
  7. I'd say there's a reasonable chance. I just hope they'll be more integrated into the world like Laguz were, and not "Oh I guess this species also exists, but we only mention them in this one chapter so you can recruit one" like fatewakening.
  8. Alright, sounds like a fun excercise, 2 weapons and a movement type for each FE I've played: Marth: Mercurius, Falchion | Infantry Celica: Beloved Zofia, Ragnarok | Infantry Roy: Sword of Seals, Armads (because it's his father in law's weapon and why not go for the gut punch) | Cavalry (because his dad could why not him) Lyn: Sol Katti, Rienfleche | cavalry (it's in the family) Eirika: Sieglinde, Siegmund | Cavalry Ike: Urvan, Ragnell | Infantry Micaiah: Thani, Physic | Infantry Lucina: Parthia, Gradivus | Flier (because her most canon mom had a pegasus) Corrin: Dragon Stone, Yato | Infantry Byleth: Sword of the Creator, Dragon Claws | Infantry
  9. After seeing Alear and Vander's designs I had given up on liking any designs in this game, but the more I'm seeing the dark skinned girl and the archer girl, the more I feel that it might not be all bad.
  10. What if, we do only get 12 rings, but equiping a ring alows you to choose a character from that world... Get the Tellius Ring to have Ike, or Soren, or Ashnard, or Ashera. That way if your Eirika ring gets into enemy hands in the story, suddenly the big bad evil is cooperating with Formortiis. Wouldn't that be cool? (Never going to happen, but it would've been cool.) Or, to get into the whole evil counterpart thing, a ring could have 1 good and 1 evil inside, depending on who wears it which one comes out. Just for fun let's think of who they'd be.
  11. Does Marianne really use her crest to talk with animals? It was my understanding that it was her personality just being more attuned to feel what animals are feeling, nothing to do with her crest. Throughout the game everyone says people with crests are stronger and they can wield the heroes' relics. But the only in-story show of strength is Dimitri, whom they went really overboard with. The part of being able to wield heroes' relics was added in both story and gameplay though.
  12. What I'm hoping for: - FE6-10 ports - FE4/5 remake - FEW:3H DLC - New FE (whatever disaster it may be, I'm looking forward to it.) - Zelda TP port - Megaman Battle Network 3-7 ports - Advanced Wars finally releases If at least one of these is in there I'll be a happy man.
  13. Preferrably none, except focus on branched promotions. I'll take Sacred Stones as example. Each character starts stuck in a base class, but on promotion there's a choice on what new class you want. Sacred Stones gave 2 options, but I'm thinking more on the line of 4 or 5 choices. That with multiple promotions sounds like a great system to me. Knowing the class paths could maybe still get you to the oops-all-wyverns path eventually if you want, allowing for plenty of stuff to try. But if I must choose, why not get some inspiration from Dungeons and Dragons. Reclass sometimes based on stats (example, need 20 speed to become a swordmaster) but otherwise mostly free. The game counts your total level seperate from your class levels (total level counts for experience gains, class level dictates what your skills are). I guess Fates comes closest to this.
  14. I do believe the fact that 3H gives unmounted lancers a stat boost means they wanted unmounted lance units to be a thing though. But I do hope it showed them this is not the way.
  15. I think for Three Houses the game designers thought simply making the unmount functionality would be exactly the same as having unmounted lance users. And honestly, since mounted lance fighters do gain a stat boost while unmounted, I think they almost have a point. Though since nobody seems to think a few points of stats is better than a few movement more, I guess unmounted lance units became irrelevant.
  16. Megaman Battle Network as an MMORPG You'd get to customize your own net-navi, and get to jack them into the game. Walk around on large webs busting virusses, pvp against other players, collecting chips you can send to your navi to use in battle. Large battles with many other navi's against giant bosses on screens much bigger than 2x3x3. If you lose your navi gets deleted (but you can make backups on your homepage). And of course actually open your Navi on your phone or smart watch as a personal assistent.
  17. While I would agree on the wyverns are better than horses point, I'm spotting a lack of availability as a talking point. A lot of games have cavaliers joining in chapter 1, while wyverns join fairly late. While I would say Milady is certainly better than Lance, Lance would've seen a lot more us by the time Milady joins. It feels a bit like comparing apples and oranges to me. I'd also like to throw mage/sage up, they usually have a high damage output without sacrificing too much hit chance, and they often get staff utility. (Throwing a pear into an apples and oranges discussion, guess I just prefer pears.) Dancer seems to be the most unambiguous answer here though. Giving another turn to whatever that game's most broken class is, is good in every game.
  18. A lot of people seem to forget, "Pick your path" has been a Fire Emblem mainstay for a long time, they just seem to have gotten worse at it. The earliest FE I played is also one of the games that did path splits the best imo, Binding Blade/Sword of Seals. Slight variances in maps and story depending on choices is what I like to see most. Sacred Stones also did the split story with a different main character fairly well, nothing too great but it works. And to be honest, as someone who replays every FE game at least a handful of times, I had zero problems with replaying White Clouds on 3H. While I personally really like the route splits, I will say that Path of Radiance is my favorite. Even though it is (I think) the only FE I played with zero route splits (Though I'm not sure about FE11/12 on that anymore). I'll say keep the route splits coming, just don't pull another Fates on us.
  19. Leonie, because I'm very stingy and reuse everything, and if I'm a fan of something or someone I just can't shut up about it and relate everything I do to it. Ingrid, because of my holier-than-thou attitude and overall serious-ness.
  20. I really disliked the turn it took for a fire emblem game. I wasn't quite in the "if this is what saves the series it had better died"-camp, but I was close to it. Then FE Fates came out... I hated Fates so badly that I started to like Awakening more and more. And after Echoes' release, I found that FE still had some gems in its future. And then came 3 Houses, one of my favorite FE games. Looking back on Awakening, it's a pretty good game. its characters and story not as bad as Fates. Its gameplay not as bad as Echoes. (Don't get me wrong, I still love SoV despite its bad gameplay, and still dislike Fates for its bad story and characters.) The game is fine, and I look forward to replaying it again some day. (Though I will probably replay every FE I played again at some point, even Fates.)
  21. Personally not a fan of ballisticians as a class. The ballista-on-a-cart looks silly to me, and map designs really needs to become focussed around them. I would however like it if more maps included one or more ballista, they can make certain maps more interesting. I second bard.
  22. Just here to defend the Laguz - Branded stuff. IIRC, it was said Lehran and Altina were the first Laguz-Beorc couple to conceive a child, not the first to share the bed. This would've been after Ashera went to sleep. Beorc and Laguz are seen as 2 different species, which means they shouldn't be able to conceive a child together. If you ask me, though I admit this is purely speculation, the ability for a Laguz to transform is one that stems from magic. Perhaps Laguz evolved enough that they became able to, unknowingly, impart part of their magic onto otherwise inconceivable spawn? Doesn't seem too farfetched to me. I personally like that Fire Emblem doesn't go too far with religion. Being an atheist myself I find religion a bit too "floaty" most of the time. Having it be actual earthly beings that are being worshipped, to me that's the best depiction of religion I can follow.
  23. Honestly, I'm all for less classes, making it more streamlined. I'd love to see them keeping it to the following 8 classes: Swordfighter, Lancefighter, Axefighter, Archer, Mage, Cleric, Sorcerer, Thief. But then let them equip an affinity giving them added bonusses and penalties: Heavy Armor, Horse, Pegasus, Wyvern (and maybe Shield and Dual Wield). That said, I'd love them to bring back Laguz, though they do need their role within the story and really fit in. (The Taguel in Awakening were great but it felt disconnected. Fates didn't do too much better on this regard.) I love this idea, Triangle Strategy did something similar and I'd love to see Fire Emblem have a crack at this beyong just some mentions by Manuella.
  24. Do we know this for a fact? Or is that speculation? After all couldn't Arval have saved Shez as well in in 3H? Shez could have just been lost in another part of those mountains, it's not like this first fight was important enough for Byleth to bring up in 3H. Could be I'm missing something though, please let me know if that's the case.
  25. I think you may have missed some points in the beginning of the story. (Though it might be your slightly confusing grammar that's making me misunderstand you, if so I apologise.) In Three Hopes (W3H) the lords find Shez on their way to Remire Village and then take out Kostas. In Three Houses (3H) the lords don't walk into Shez (for whatever reason) and get to Remire Village, where they find Byleth, and fight Kostas after that. In W3H Byleth never gets brought to the monastery, and neither does Jeralt. As Jeralts Mercenaries were never found by the church in this universe, they simply kept doing mercenary work. The fact that in Shez's path TWSitD were unmasked a lot faster makes me think this was the better path. Events like the Calamity in Remire Village seemingly never happened in this timeline. The amount of suffering during the war is too unclear to really comment on. Taking things into account things like the stalemates in 3H, or the fact that most commanders never seem to die in W3H but retreat, it's just impossible to figure out which war is worse.
