  1. 3 leaned in hard on the combat, which was the weakest part of the Banner Saga, and focused in on one caravan full of bad or gimmicky units, where all your solid and reliable units were stranded on a route where ideally they wouldn't actually be needed.
  2. yeah 2 > 1 >> 3 for mine anyway here to report that the hacked accounts have been duly put to death, thank you for your citizen's arrests
  3. I'll be honest... over the past decade, I've literally only ever used the Athos Luna cheese strat lol
  4. I think you found your answer. While a relative neologism that obviously doesn't reflect how they thought of themselves, it's there for clarity, not precision. Besides, as the Roman Empire's core was Rome, the Byzantine Empire's core was once called Byzantion. The Eastern Roman Empire had a... rocky history with the city, before Constantine made it his personal project, after all. Still, you've obviously entirely at liberty to dislike the title regardless; just, it doesn't come from nowhere, and a distinction does help. I wouldn't call it a hot take so much as an obscure truth, but the people of the thread could do a lot worse than trying to dig up a copy of The Tyrannicide Brief by Geoffrey Robertson, the story of the guy who got landed the job of proving the deposed English King should be sentenced to death. Unsurprisingly he's mostly been buried / demonised by conventional English history, so.
  5. I like Lowen. Lowen doesn't like me back. The one time he got Strength for me... he actually got it pretty much every level, bizarrely, but never got Speed. He's usually still good enough to do a job towards the end, in a Pacifist run kind of way.
  6. Heroes is one of those games where, really, the meat of the content is geared around everyone being max-level. As a little nod to the main series, a few Jagen-style 'Veteran' units have slightly stronger stats at level 1 and weaker at max level, and 'Recruits' vice-versa. And level 1 content is a complete irrelevance. It's been a long time since they've actually used the Veteran modifier, but I think they still use Recruits from time to time to give some units a little boost.
  7. Appreciated. Yeah, I'm just using 'myrmidon' as shorthand for Infantry Sword (TM); Seliph and Ogma count, legendary Eirika and Hana's ninja alt don't. Thanks. The last one introduced was the Eph / Eir Twins; the last grail was Nemesis, the last true non-seasonal drop was... ... ... . . . jesus christ, it was silvia I would, but we aren't gonna have nearly enough grails, sadly; I'm not even sure how long it's gonna take for the 3700 we're gonna need for the +10 Astram.
  8. Act I - The Accumulation of Wealth There's an accounting coming, Alfonse, and you know I'm right. Emblan hordes descending. Now what are you doing to insulate yourself and your Order? You think you're rich. You've no idea what "rich" means. "Rich" is merging a +2 Mareeta because you don't need the NFU. It's an Armoursmasher on Sabre and another on Kris. So that's action item one, the accumulation of wealth, and I mean wealth, not orbs. Scene 1: The Pitfalls of Austerity
  9. RATIONALE Fire Emblem Heroes is a gacha game in which you recruit from an All-Star cast of Fire Emblem characters, and Florina, and take them into battle to acquire more rewards to get more heroes. I installed at launch, though it took me a few months down the line to really get into daily play - the Black Knight Tempest Trial was my first real landmark memory. It is a very good mobile game, and extremely Free to Play friendly. That’s useful, because I don’t plan to spend a Goddamn cent while doing this LP. I figured it would be good for my experience of the game to play from the top, seee what the experience was like for a new player (in terms of resources), even go through the story Except that would be boring. So fuck it. What’s FE all about? Myrmidons. Edgy ones, friendly ones, level 5 ones with Killing Edges who are your introduction to enemy recruitment. I performatively disliked the class as a tiny baby; this is my redemption arc. We’re going to beat FEH - all Story Maps, and the Heroic Path achievements-for-beginners system - using nobody but infantry swords. THE IMMUTABLE RULES 1. Only infantry may move or use support skills. 2. Only swordsmen may fight or use support skills. 3. Where possible, deploy only infantry swordsmen. Non-myrmidons can be deployed for quests, but not fight for them; e. g. Sharena can stand around as three people clear a GHB, but can’t fulfil the quest for killing the boss. They can also stand around as bonuses for the purposes of Arena, but not take part in the Defence. 4. The account may not buy orbs or subscribe to FEH Pass. If a new starter pack drops and it’s got like Christmas Altina for $6, sure. Most likely, this will be a pure F2P account, but exceptional circumstances may remain. 5. In Voting Gauntlets, I may only support my fellow myrmidons. 6. Using allied units in relevant units is permitted, so long as they are also infantry swordsmen. Falcata's Friend Code is 4490187395; be mindful it's going to be a good long while before her fronted unit is interesting. That said, if your in-game name isn't clearly mapped to your SF name, let me know; I'll accept anyone following the thread, and reject randoms, so if I snub you it's a mistake. 7. Above rules may be broken only where impossible to avoid, or made flexible if the alternative is more interesting. Tactics Trials, most obviously. But also at some point Sharena and Anna will have to clear their Heroic Ordeals. 8. For the thread: no backseating. Please do comment, but don't tell me what to do, and certainly don't assume I don't know what to do. I have been playing for years, I clear Abyssal LHBs and get thrones in AR, I don’t need your help unless I explicitly ask for it. Let’s do this. 10. Haven't played it, but my vibe is that it's in thrall to nostalgia. Ideally, it isn't going in blind and actually does have plans to iterate - like Fell Seal to FFTA/2, or Wargroove to AW, both of which were improvements because the devs were clearly fans who still took note of bad things that could use improvement - but seeing so much focus on, like, GBA-style combat graphics? Maybe the least important thing in a TRPG, copied off a weak formula? Most likely I'll grab it after a few patches when it's on sale.
  11. There's been a fair few recent staff drops regardless. Doing wizardry is one of the two things she did, even if it's not what she's better-known for; it's hardly unjustifiable to focus her on that in FEH when you can only pick one.
  12. If the topic doesn't course-correct quickly, there will cease to be a topic.
  13. If you must make low-effort threads, they belong in Far from the Forest.
  14. Literally just to showcase that the Str/Mag split was back. I don't think they ever had any delusions of it being a good call for the units' utility.
  15. I don't get the time as much as I'd like to. Even so, I should do more than I manage. Still, I probably get through one a month, though in fits and starts.
  16. Friend of mine had FE9, we were maybe 11 or 12. I prodded him into playing it whenever I was over. Being 11 or 12, we were terrible at it; actually had to do two runs, the finale felt like a failstate. Anyway, then I got my father to emulate FE8, then 7 for me. I joined the forums about when I started into 4.
  17. At least a chapter? All but Awakening. Or technically Birthright / Revelations, if you're counting those separate. I never got significantly far in 1 or 3, though - just like a chapter or two at most. 2 and 5 I got a fair way through, 14 I nearly finished, 4/6/7/8/9/10/11/12/15/16 I did finish.
  18. Mostly as a short victory lap. Something like the charged gravity gun in HL2.
  19. You are not exempt from the mod directive to cool off. Choose reporting or engaging, not both.
  20. Gents, please, no fighting. This is the wargame forum. While I'd caution Vicious Sal to take a less bad-faith reading of the OP - there's significantly more detail than you're giving credit for - their overall point is valid. If there's more to this story, I'd welcome you to post it, and in general you are not going to find other people to write your story for you for free, only to critique what you've done.
  21. As a mod: Cool the tempers a bit. Thank you. As a user: I feel we're very oversaturated on Dimitri and Edelgard specifically, and very samey executions of them at that, not so much 3H generally. Even then, this version of both units deserves to exist; it's the CYL forms that are the weakest of each, and in full benefit of hindsight I'd rather their CYL version was just their legendary version, freeing up the legs to be... someone else. But there's plenty of room for 3H love. We're still waiting on any vanilla War Phase students (not counting CYL Lysithea), by far the demographic I'm most interested in. I have zero thoughts on the Grimae, but Orson will be my fourth FE8 +10 and I'm incredibly hype for it.
