  7. I've been playing more of 天地の剣, completed Chapter 4x and finishing Chapter 5 now. It's a very well done hack! http://serenesforest.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=14799&page=18#entry3991079 So far the level design is pretty good--a little cluttered in the first few chapters. The hack also throws a TON of units at you immediately, so you have a lot of selection, and the opening cast is based on the classic FE archetypes with Sacaen and Illian twists (you get Rostof and Grape as the Green/Red duo, a Nomad as the archer, Seeks as the armor, etc.). The difficulty is pretty well made with a touch on the more difficult side compared to the vanilla games. A couple of the maps are also really well designed too--Chapter 4x involves your group planning an attack on a Bern supply caravan, and any of the wagons you can take you, you get their goods as they attempt to flee. Chapter 5 involves holding off the Bern invasion of Bulgar long enough for its citizens to retreat--and they actually leave the house and try and run away, more and more as the chapter progress and as Bern forces rapidly grow on the city walls. It's a neat aesthetic effect that feels just right. The plot also seems pretty interesting, from what little I'm gathering. I think Lyn has been abducted by Bern forces, and Ilia's interested in helping prevent or mediate the invasion of Sacae by Bern. You play as members of the Lorca tribe, whereas Djute seems to be siding with Bern. Definitely worth a try for anyone who wants a solid hack. It's also pretty conservative in what it does--the Green and FE_Girls patch add new features and become neat little spectacles of newness, whereas this hack is more interested in just making a very polished and recognizable tone that fits in right alongside FE7.
  8. Dark and Thunder being 1 range seems very dangerous for the class types that will be using them. How it will be balanced (or not balanced) would be very interesting... I like the concept so far. I like the three range wind. Tweak it so that the wind if very weak or circumstantial, and it then has a good tradeoff, one which the player can attempt to work with via supports or forging or other means. I could see myself playing with character skills and three range wind to take advantage of the new playstyle. Perhaps adding a few status effects to dark or thunder would help incentivize a risk of being a 1-range combat, which in turn makes the game more interesting and provides the player with more choices on how to proceed. I like this idea very much--please explore it!
  9. Thankfully we don't have to use a patch we do not like; moreover, one can always change the content they dislike if they really want to. The interesting part is a belligerence to chose one option over all others, instead of making alternative naming options for a community to choose from. oh well
  10. You can make four new game saves on each difficulty with the same exact character choices and saved at the same exact moment. Then you can compare the four saves, and you should be able to narrow down any shared file differences very easily. Game time will probably be different across the four saves, but so should the difficulty. You can narrow down the addresses this way.

I think this might be an alternate universe sort of hack, where the premise is what happened when Bern invaded Ilia but in a different version of the same world? I dunno. I only played the first chapter to get an idea, but it definitely is one I'll be looking forward to trying later on.   15. And how will character and enemy skills factor in to modeling the stats after older FE games? Will you be redistributing or editing skills to fit in more with previous FE games without skills, or are those not part of "aging" the game?

  18. Bronze weapons were pretty useful for negating some risky situations in my Nohr Hard playthrough, I can admit.

Having beat Hoshido Normal, Nohr Hard, and Invisible Kingdom halfway through on Hard, I can't say I actually noticed a big difference in how criticals and luck worked in this game, compared to previous games. The biggest difference is that the Killer weapons do 4x more damage instead of 3x. Critical damage itself, when not caused by a Killer weapon, is still 3x. Towards the end of Nohr Hard, enemies with high crit were creeping up, but I always broke it back by either using Elfie or other high defense characters, or by placing adjacent or paired support units. This has been my experience so far.

  22. I wonder if the special V and J maps will appear :o Using a custom firmware, you can boot arbitrary GBA games on the 3DS. I think their VC emulator doesn't support all games. The Ambassador games do not use the emulator but instead boot off the hardware, or something. I don't follow this too much because I use a Gateway instead of custom firmware :/ GBAtemp and other sites will have more info if you are curious :)
  23. Thanks for the info Vincent! If I knew how to take a look as well as you guys do, I'd check it out myself. I completed Hoshido and Nohr so far and am half way through Invisible Kingdom, so something might stick out to me. I wonder if it will be possible to give every character a unique recolor in the future.
