  1. I think that's a byproduct of all three routes together making up the FE14 story. If the same type of stuff happened on Nohr and Hoshido or they focused on the same type of story, they'd be interchangeable instead of two arcs in a three arc tale. I think Hoshido's supposed to be base plot, Nohr emotional journey, and IK answers the questions posed by the two. I don't think Nohr and Hoshido are meant to be comparable.Instead it's more like if they took Gangrel, Walhart, and Validar from Awakening, fleshed em out, and made them three games, meant to played together.
  2. I'm reading through a translation right now, and I haven't come across too many things that stand out to me either. Beyond Garon lacking much motivation (or it not being elaborated on. you can kinda infer a few probable reasons) for taking Kamui in the first place, I haven't come across too much. It might just depend on what you look for in a story. The characters are better than usual in my opinion, and I tend to glaze over when lore/nitty-gritty war stuff comes up, so maybe that's where the issues lie? Story issues are pretty opinionated, and how much they affect the story is a similar matter. It's all about where you look. I actually hadn't even realized people had issues with the plot til I hopped on this forum. Tumblr and AO3 are generally chill about it. Game's not even localized, and there are already some hella detailed character analyses out there. I saw a whole thread for issues a lil further down. Maybe they can help? Edit: It could also just be recency + hype/directional backlash. Some of the older plots haven't exactly been winners, but since it's not really relevant atm, no one's bringing up FE4's miserable pacing and narration or FE7's decision to lock the Nergal mess behind a gaiden only accessible on your second playthrough. Certain issues, like plot contrivances and crummy villains, are just series wide problems.
  3. I find her the most interesting of the Hoshidan royals. 'Strong' characters who were screwed up by something in their childhood are totally my weakness, and I like the way it's presented in her supports. Her costume design is also super cute, peg knights are one of my fav classes, and I've heard she's supposed to be a pretty good unit, too. Atm, she's my favorite Hoshidan character.
  4. I understand this is a joke reply (and I definitely snickered), but actually since Ryouma's his foil and Kamui comments on how similar they all are, I think this might actually be a point for suicidal? Not that Ryouma's suicidal, but for the two men to take the same action for different reasons would be a parallel that makes sense to write...
  5. Tbh, I usually just kinda expect plotholes in video game stories and tend not to notice them anyways. Since they've gotta juggle the visual presentation, writing, and gameplay (and the gameplay is almost always designed first), I guess I always see a few weird moments where one element has to work in an awkward way for the others as a given. There's been... one moment in the story so far that's stood out to me as needing a lil more character motivation explanation, but I guess the other plotholes are in the lore and nitty-gritty of the war or something? Alternatively, IK and the last few chapters of each route introduces a lot, seeing as the translation I'm reading hasn't gotten to those yet. Long as the characters are interesting, I'm usually pretty happy. And since they and their motivations are featured so prominently this time around, it bumps the story above the other games in the series I've played.
  6. Since I can't read Japanese, I'm reading through an in-progress translation right now. I'm at... So far I like everything. More character drama-y than usual, so that's fun. Those are usually the kind of stories I read/write anyways.
  7. Still very excited! I'm a big fan of Kozaki's art, Nohr/Hoshido routes have my favorite FE plots so far, and I've only heard good things about the gameplay. Can't wait to see the game here in the US!
  8. First, if there's somewhere else I should put this, please tell me. I didn't quite see an applicable topic to ask this in, but if there is, I'd be happy to move it. It's my first time in the forum so I dunno what conventions you guys have. Anyways... Question: Is Marx suicidal? I'm writing an AU fanfic, and this would fit well in the story. Unfortunately, I can't read Japanese, and the plot translation I'm reading hasn't gotten far enough for me to confirm if this is actually canon or not. My thought was that his Nyx support implied some suicidal tendencies, but it wasn't brought up anywhere else or truly confirmed so I'm a little hesitant to write it in his character based solely on my analysis of the support. I'm suspicious it could come up or at least be implied again during the chapter you fight him on the Hoshido route, but the story translation I'm reading hasn't gotten that far yet. If it's an actual part of his character, I want to write it into my fanfic sooner rather than later so I can be subtle about it and get all that buildup, but if it's not, then I kinda need to rewrite parts of my plot skeleton. Since I can't really confirm on my own but also can't really wait around for confirmation, I was wondering what everyone else's thoughts on it were. General consensus seems the best substitute given the circumstances. Suicidal, or nah?
