Ryoma: I like it, overall, though like others said I wish his reds weren't so saturated. I also think his spiky mullet hair would have looked better in a ponytail a la Takumi. But yeah, the armor design is really neat and his headpiece is cool. Very regal looking. Xander: As with Ryoma, I like it mostly, although one thing that bothers me is his cape being so short in the back, especially compared to that...strip of fabric in the front.

Corrins: Mostly like. The color scheme is a nice way to hint at his origins in both worlds, the overall design of the armor is cool (especially the dragon-like spine on the back), the skin-tight clothing flows well into dragon form, and speaking of which, the dragon form is very neat and unique. The bare feet is a bit weird but adds character. M!Corrin's hair doesn't bother me, weirdly--it's dorky, but that kind of fits him. I find Fem!Corrin worse because of the unnecessary thigh holes, plus the sexualization of her Nohr Noble and Hoshido Noble classes ruins two perfectly good designs. Azura: The one gripe I have is that weird patch of skin on her midrift--it looks so odd, like someone just cut out a huge piece of fabric. Other than that, I think her design is very fitting for her--pretty, elegant, and mysterious. Her "Dark Song" dress is even better, the darker colors just contrast her pale hair wonderfully and the veil adds to the mystique.

I have to disagree with this. Camilla's smothering has so many incestuous undertones it makes more sense (albeit creepily) for Corrin to be male, and Elise is the living epitome of "Hero's Little Sister". Whereas I find Camilla's smothering harder to explain when Corrin's a girl, and Elise's big-sibling worship to make less sense since she has Camilla, who is very doting, whereas with male Corrin, Leo's more aloof. Plus, male Corrin nets you this neat dynamic with his brothers, where Xander's the Brawn, Leo's the Brains, and Corrin's the Heart.

Takumi and Azura because they're both great, well-rounded characters who are very relatable. Male because I hate the female's design and voice acting. Also because I find Corrin's gentle personality interesting on a male character since it plays with gender roles, while generic on a female. Revelation because while Conquest is more fun, I prefer happy endings.

I'm gonna argue with that last point.

Worst Moms: Camilla, Peri, and Rhajat, basically the ones with twisted mindsets and issues. Camilla's too smothering and obsessive, Peri's got no grasp of morals, and Rhajat's too stalker-ish and obsessive. I can't see any of them raising Kana in a good way. Worst Dads: Jakob and Ryoma. Jakob is still competitive to Kana, has parental favoritism issues, and doesn't do a good job at being a good father. Ryoma, in his defense, understands he messed up, but he still seems to have a poor idea of what to do despite his good intentions. Best Moms: Mozu, Azura, and Oboro. Mozu, as everyone else has said, is a well-adjusted individual with no obvious flaws; Azura, despite her aloofness to most people, is pretty invested in spending time with her family and even worries about whether she's raising Kana right (Child Scramble), a sign she truly loves them and wants to do right; Oboro also has some problems, but she manages them quite well, has a healthy range of interests, and is a kind and moral individual. Best Dads: Kaze and Benny are, like Mozu, well-adjusted and normal guys with sterling morals. Both are big sweethearts, protective, and basically top father material.

It's not too hard to find the return warp tiles because all of them have thickets nearby. And yeah, you only have 3 units, but even with that in account it's not particularly challenging if you use the chokepoints well. I enjoyed it, at least a lot more than I enjoyed that freaking snow map. Even swooping around to clear out both paths (for that treasure), I still beat it by turn 30. It's not particularly hard unless you play on Lunatic with a -DEF Corrin.

I'll disagree with the "spouts exposition" part, at least outside of CQ. BR has an entire subplot revolving around her powers and REV has the thing with her mom. It's only on CQ that she's kind of oddly placed (not to mention that crystal ball thing, which is pretty bad as you said). And she does get interaction with people other than Corrin--Takumi, mostly, but the other royals too. Except Hinoka. Hinoka's kind of just there. But in any case--my problem wasn't that he hated her for the plot involvement, but for the Ship Tease. It reminds me of Awakening days where Chrobin fangirls would flip out on Sumia for no reason other than the game pushing her with Chrom, which is shallow and bitter. And, since I forgot to include this in my last post, and so this one isn't completely off-topic--as a whole, I would still put Fates in the top 5 Fire Emblem games, since other than its story and a few questionable decisions (cough kids cough) I thought it delivered excellently.

Not at all. A character or person with social anxiety can be perfectly fine as long as they're working in the field of their hobby, but be a wreck outside it. Look at Olivia from Awakening--completely fine on-stage, cripplingly shy off it.

Thanks for putting these together! It's convenient to have all these in one place, even if nearly all the paired endings are crap. Not necessarily. Given her social anxiety, it's pretty believable that she wouldn't want to show up at public events/meetings/etc, and decided to help Corrin "behind the scenes". So that's how she could end up queen and still be a historical mystery--if people never see her, they never have anything to write about her beyond "she married Corrin, had two kids with him, and um that's it."

Gameplay-wise, Fates is one of the best in the series, especially Conquest. Great maps, great mechanics, great new classes and skills, it's an absolute blast to play. The soundtrack and visuals are equally amazing, and little touches like the battlefield changing depending on where a unit is on the map is neat. It's a beautiful thing to watch and I love it. Character-wise, this is more divisive, but I think Fates' characters improved a lot from Awakening's. GBA era still had the best cast, but most of Fates' cast relies a lot less on gimmicks and are generally more fleshed-out. Designs are also mixed--on the one hand,there's a lot of appreciation for the improvements on Knights, Cavaliers, etc, from Awakening. On the other hand, there's a lot of hate for the steps back on Knights, Cavaliers, etc, from Awakening. Story-wise...yeah, this is pretty much universally agreed to be Fates' weakest thing. I still think the Internet exaggerates how terrible it is, to an extent--Birthright and Revelation were fine to me, for the most part; not great, but not terrible, and while Conquest is mediocre, it's still not as awful as I'd heard about before playing. I'm not saying the story is good, mind you; it suffers from too many plot contrivances, thin worldbuilding, black-and-white morality, and having too big a main character cast (there is no way you can give ten characters equal screentime, as the royal sisters unfortunately found out). But the parts I liked outnumbered the parts I didn't, so I could find it acceptable and even enjoyable at places. The pre-release hype definitely played a part in the negative reception--it's not the entire reason behind it, but after all the talk about how great it was, disappointment would hit a lot harder and make people more prone to critique. ...really? Hating a character because she got Ship Teased with the main character? No one's saying you have to like Azura and Sumia, but that's an incredibly shallow reason to hate them. I'll actually argue that she had a reason not to tell Corrin about Anankos while they were in Valla--the way through the Bottomless Canyon was either closed or closing soon (it closes at 16 in REV, they're at 15 in CQ), so they wouldn't be able to get there in time to do anything to stop Anankos. What's the point in telling him, then, when he's never going to be able to tell anyone else and will be stressed by the knowledge he's playing into Anankos's claws? She considers it a personal agony to know and not be able to tell anyone, so why would she want to inflict that on him? And even if she did tell him, how would it have averted the invasion of Hoshido? That was well under way at that point. Their participation or not wouldn't have done a thing to stop it (And no, I'm not advocating the invasion--I just don't see how telling Corrin about Anankos would have stopped it). oh look, the thread's already derailed into people fighting about Conquest's plot, myself included
