  1. I think the reason Boyd (my fav) and Mist end up together is because you could see their chemistry from the start of Path of radiance. Yeah, I thought it was odd, since Rolf and Mist make a much better pair, even support wise, they give each other better bonuses to combat. But Boyd is a big muscle head, just like Ikeypoo. Is it coincidence that mist sees something in him that rolf can't fufil? I THINK NOT! Fan fics and Head cannons are cool and all, (Edward X Lyre is my headcannon, even after that horrible 2 page fanfic I wrote) but I think that Boyd and Mist fit eachother. Boyd protects mist, and Mist makes sure Boyd doesn't cause a huge panic. (Plus she can make him clothes.)
  2. I personally never enjoyed Azura or Lucina, but I see why people like her. Trying to recreate any character based on their popularity that isn't a sequel or a direct reason to be there (like the Lazy Fan service of fate's awakening trio) is just poor, and they put too much hope and time into recreating appeal rather than trying to appeal in different ways with new characters. Azura is completely forgettably in my eyes, aside from the good voice work in the localization. As for female characters that don't piggyback off of a male character's spotlight, I'd say that it is very difficult to do. When you think about it, there are VERY few FE games that have the main lords doing things on their own, without the "piggyback effect" either with duel lords, or plot important characters. (The Jagens and advisers such as merlinus and Jagen don't count in my opinion. Let me use a few examples: FE 1 and 11 had Princess Nyna, Path of Radiance had Queen/Princess Elincia. The games with duel/multiple protagonists are obvious, FE 8 and 7 and 13. Binding Blade Had Guinivere, and To an extent, FE 4 had Julia. FE 3 and 5 are really the only ones that come to mind that give the protagonist time to shine and develop as a whole. Trying to build a single character with little interaction or second or third "Crutch" is something that the series has little experience with. The reason Sacred stones worked with the crutch, is because it didn't feel like it was just the duel lords handeling things. There were side characters like Innes and Duessel who's roles in the game were impactful, and had a part in the story, so the main lords weren't reduced to each other as a crutch. And furthermore, Eirika and Ephraim worked well in the crutch department because their routes were split, and the minor characters would put in their effort. More specifically, duessel in Ephraim's route, and Inness in Eirika's. When they joined together, they had become more of a single entity, rather than two contrasting characters piggybacking off of each other. This was made possible, in my opinion, because they were siblings who realized the same goal in the end, and had time to develop before the end of the game. Does this mean that we should have characters and protagonists that try to hold their own in a story without any kind of crutch and we should do so instantly? No, I'm simply stating that it would be difficult for FE to do so, especially with a main Female lead, because it's been done with males in the past, and few FE protagonists rely on a crutch. I may be saying something completely stupid, but I think that FE should make it so that like in sacred stones, that the female lead is brought into the light first, and given more time to develop, or at least play the bigger role. Maybe kill off the male crutch? I've had a plot in my head for a while now, but I can't think of it in any way that a female lead could take the reigns of protagonist on her own.
  3. Ok, so, upon replaying Gaiden, I noticed something with the magic hit rates, and I want to get something cleared up, in-case I'm wrong. As far as I know, all the Magic in FE 2 have their own special hit rate system, where only the luck stat factors into avoiding a magic attack, not terrain, or anything else. (Other than the Magic shield, obviously.) Meaning, if an enemy has 0 luck, the hit rate for magic is fixed. Like Angel has 80% hit and Nosferatu has 50% hit. And skill does not effect magic, I'm told. However, I noticed that the further I get in the game, the Nosferatu spell, most notable against high level enemies, seems to reduce its hit rate from a 50% to 40%, then 30% and so on. I may be seeing things, but against Zombies, the hit rate for Nosferatu and other magic spells like Thunder and Aura seems to be as accurate as is stated, with the hit rates like 80 and 70 and so on. Inversely, on other enemies like Later Draco zombies, Heroes, and even shamans, the hit rate seems to go down, despite there being no increase in luck. I find that Nosferatu is even more effected by this phenomenon. Where something like fire seems fine against Dread fighters on a fort, Nosferatu, when it is supposed to be a set 50, seems to be around 25 or 30. I can tell because the bar goes down below half, where it is obviously not me mis-reading the bar. Even with the high knights in the lost woods give me this problem, and investing in skill on healers or giving them normal weapons (because the star lance is hard to get) does nothing at all. If I have been reading or hearing things wrong, please tell me. However, if this is some sort of glitch that I'm not aware of, it'd be nice to know. Maybe Nosferatu just works differently than other magic? I don't know what to believe anymore. I'm not an expert on Gaiden, so any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
  4. I really liked "Get the pants". It was so charming and refreshing to see an FE 1 hack, especially one with such fun references.
  5. I hope that the Whitewings reference marth as well, but a callback to Jugdral would be really nice. Referencing the future would be a bit tricky to pull off, so no expectations there. Maybe some of the villagers talk about how marth just killed the great earth dragon. I'm not really too good at this, but It'd be cool to see them squeeze in some lore from the surrounding continents. Maybe they consider themselves lucky being with the gods in real time, while others look upon the continent of Valentia as a curse, or the other way around? Just a general feel for the current world would be nice, rather than just fitting in tons of non-sensical references to out of place FE titles like Sacred stones or Radiant Dawn. Like JD stated, Athena would be nice to have back. I always liked her atitude in Shadow Dragon, and it was never specified where she came from. In the original dialogue she says that she would have "been svallowed by the vaves anyvay". This hints that she was either coming from a different continent or spends lots of her work at sea.
  6. I hope that they don't change his character too much. I want him to be agressive. Other than that, the trailer looks pretty good. Especially Alm. He looks very powerful, being able to stand up to a Paladin (I'm assuming) on a horse. I guess you could say he's... Almighty. His voice is a little squeaky to me, but I'm sure it'll grow on me. All in all, I just became 3x more hyped than I was initially, because Catria is confirmed in the game. I'm hearing Phoenix mode is returning too. Any thoughts as to why that may be?
  7. Anything resembling the Magic animations from FE 4 in stunning HD would make me have a heart attack. A good one, mind you.
  8. I hope you are right. I really REALLY want FE Gaiden 2 & Knuckles to do well, but I get this feeling in my gut that tells me that we won't be seeing much of classic FE style for a long time after this. I want to be happy and upbeat for this game, but it's just so difficult for me.... ya know?
  9. I at least hope, that beyond everything that this game gets advertisement and maybe at least a 10 second commercial or something. Having a lack of advertising and poor release scheduling was what almost killed the sales of the Tellius games and the franchise as a whole. The minute they start advertising, sales are boosted like FE 4 Masterknight promotion gains. If they put some sort of emphesis on the dungeon crawling in the adds, then it might get even more recognition from "non-FE" gamers. I'm crossing my fingers, but..... IS is going to screw something up, I Just know it.
  10. I love me some Samoas. Thanks! Didn't have to be from popular cooking/baking websites, but I'll take what I can get I guess
  11. Ignore the thing. Children are a hassle, and having the responsibility of an extra is just too much.
  12. So, I've got about half of my spring break left, give a day or two. I really enjoy cooking and testing out different recipes, especially if it's baking a cake or something. Since scones aren't my forte, I thought that maybe with a few days on my hands, I could bake some cookies. I'm not talking about grabbing some basic dough or pre-made stuff to bake from the local supermarket. I'm talking from scratch - with flour, eggs, brown sugar and all that. I know I can find some simple or outlandish stuff online, but maybe there's something special that the members here would like to share? You don't need to divulge family secrets or any classy, restaurant-worthy recipes if you don't want to - some stuff needs to be kept for important reasons. But rather, anything that may be margarine-ally different, a classic twist on an age old recipe, or something simple or fun to make. It doesn't need to be the grandest of flavors, but I'm hoping at least above tasting like pure vanilla extract and butterfly wings. I like chocolate chip cookies, but what about something more? Thanks guys/gals!
  13. Is there a team laguz? I don't really like either, mostly because neither tribe is well developed, and both seem to be quite small. If I HAD to choose, It would be wolfskin. I always had a thing for Lycans.
  14. These look beyond amazing! Sigurd sadly must wait his turn. I hear there's a barbecue around. Maybe that'll keep him occupied while he waits. Not sorry for overused joke
  15. Realistic is nice in some cases, but flashy just fits FE so much better. Leave the story to realism. The animations of the GBA era were flashy, but... it just didn't have the kick that RD's animations had. I really liked how some characters (I think this was exclusive to myrmidon class sets) would roll backwards to dodge. It was just so... life-like. The magic animations in any game that isn't the SNES games or Radiant dawn is just appalling to me. Imagine the Valflame and Holsety in stunning, RD like animations. Maybe in in HD? The animation of the magic was a little long or winded at times (like the Light and fire animations) but the holy weapons and the critical animations of the princess, Swordmaster, Warrior, and even the sword Pegasi were either quick or flashy. Now that I think about it, the Pegasi would swoop down, crit-to-kill as they pass by and fly back to the air to scout some more. Kinda like the Radiant dawn flier animations. I think I know where the inspiration came from. All in all, Radiant Dawn's animations are my Favorite, but I have to give honorable mentions to the SNES animations. Who doesn't like Seliph's crazy dance moves or the Swordmaster's illusion techniques?
  16. Why does it matter which is most prominent? When you look at it from the original post's perspective, I'd say Maria, Wrys, Elice, then Lena, because Elice is such a grand burden for marth. But in my eyes, Gameplay and story relevence is the important part, because IS recognizing characters is not worth my time to contemplate. (They pretend like Tellius doesn't exist half the time) So personally, I'd say: Lena (First Arc and Hammerne and being the best Res tank), Maria, Elice, then Wrys.
  17. I'd like around 50. It's a wide range for a multitude of replayability, but not so overwhelming that there's too many. I think that FE 12 had too many, but it was nice all the same. I just hope that if it goes to the higher end of the spectrum, the supports are limited. I'm not going to play a game 200 times over to get every pairing or support down. It's too much.
  18. If I had to choose one, I'd go with Brunja from FE 6 (I misspelled har name). She just wants her senpai King Zephiel to notice her. And how she behaves in chapter 23 gives her respect points in my book. Sure, you have your Valters, your Callachs (Don't get why some fancy him anyway), Jared (RD) your Camus Archetype, the one off bosses for comedic effect, and even those that become memes. However; Brunja is the last commander (that we know of) of a dead country, with no reason to fight, and true compassion and feelings for her soldiers. They don't have to fight, and she makes it so that people with vulnerable families are forbidden to fight in that last battle. What other boss (aside from mustafa) puts that kind of care in for the soldiers, who are willing to lay down their lives for a dead cause? It makes me question what kind of loyalty exists in a soldier that drives him/her to do the unreasonable. It is always a theme present in FE that one would fight even though it is foolish. But when there is nothing left to risk, and you'd just be throwing your lives away, is it pride that pushes these people onward, or something more? These kind of thoughts makes me love bosses and minor characters like these. It's not just some attempt to make the player feel bad for some camus archtype; (selena) there's some prideful, unyielding driving force behind each battle, and finding out what each one is will always be one of my favorite things about fire emblem bosses and characters. There's just something there that I'm not getting, and that mystery and sorrow makes me appreciate Brunja and her cause for fighting so appealing.
  19. If the protagonist is a lord of noble linage, just make him/her interesting. All the Female protagonists (Not counting female Corrin) have taken side/duel roles, and the male counter part has always been sort of hot headed or quick to action. Personally, I'd like an experimental protagonist that throws moral grey right back into the series, because quite a bit of morality as of late is mostly black and white. If you haven't seen my posts about my preference for a future lord character, I'd like either a bow lord (bows from the get go) or a lord who is a dangerous criminal, with no royal linage. (Can't be any worse than Conquest Corrin, amirite?)
  20. Now, I don't know if anyone gave this specific Idea before, but I'm going to throw it out there anyway. I would like it if skills worked like this: there are only slots for 3 skills at a time. 1: Personal skills. These skills will always stay with the unit, and cannot be unassigned. Each character can only have one personal skill. 2: Class skills. These skills can be assigned and unassigned, being learned at level 7 for each class, promoted or unpromoted. When a unit has been reclassed or promoted, and they reach level seven, the unit will have the option to either un-assign the current class skill in exchange for learning the new one, or to keep the current class skill they have. (For example, say the class skill you keep is vantage, the myrmidon class skill, and the class skill you refuse is Smite, the Brigand Class skill. This makes a particular unit a brigand/bandit class with vantage, but is not able to have smite) 3: Special skills. These skills are either mastery skills learned through items (like in Path of Radiance/Thracia) or skills acquired through special events (Mareeta's Astra in FE 5) or through inheritance if there are parent/child generations. For the sake of keeping things balanced, I'd like only 3 skills on a unit at maximum. I also feel that, similar to what Awakening did, each unit should have an "unassigned" reserve slot for one skill. And the skills can be swapped between battles or at a base, and each character gets only one slot. In short, this "Unassigned skill" slot should be there to hold any skill that was stored and not dropped. You can swap out a current skill for the one in reserve, which goes to its respective skill slot (class or special). Is this a feasible way for skills to be implemented? Or is there a specific way that an existing game handled skills that you'd like to return?
  21. I like personal skills. FE 4 had them, so why not?
  22. I think that you had some valid points with that(I read the whole thing), but as others said, it wasn't really meant as a critical scene. It was one of comedy. In most games where there's tension in a scene, and the atmosphere is the driving point of the scene, sometimes comedic relief can ruin it. However, I think that it does this game justice, as we see later that this game has quite a bit of comedic relief written into its recruitment conversations and character interactions. It's the little scenes like this that make me appreciate the writers and translators; they have a sense of humor. Doing this means they are having fun, and they're putting effort into the game. Something that I really like to see. As for the save points, I think I do understand why they're not returning. They were excellent mechanics, but the main problem is save scumming. The way that shadow dragon's RNG worked was on a time based system. So you could always get different outcomes if you had an iffy chance of survival, or tried too hard in the arena. I love the save points, but I could also abuse them. I would like to see them come back, but I feel like IS won't take that chance, now that there's casual mode.
  23. I've never used fiona. There was one time I tried to, but.... she got killed by everything. Granted, This was years ago, but still. I really want to use tormod and make him usable.
