Louise looks much younger than her bride alt, which is a shame because I like her Bridal Alt art better. Her A skill though, combine with firesweep-effect weapons like Eleonora or Shamir can hit pretty devastating +9 almost all the time.

Yeah I noticed that as well. I think I prefer her art here though since her lips aren't showing as much and she looks cuter / cooler.

I am kinda salty that Erk is the demote though. I have nothing against the guy, but we've gotten a ridiculous number of red mage demotes lately. At least he has a solo skill.

  2. Add some level of interactivity to some of the activities like planting, cooking & learning. As it is now, they are just really boring since you just watch stats and numbers go up or a cutscene play out without much else happening. I would like these activities to be simple minigames like fishing is. For example, sword training could have you play a minigame where you chop wood.

The only problem with that assessment is that every modern tome cavalry with an exclusive weapon also gets 13-27 points of stats from their weapon on top of their base stat advantage.

True. What makes it even worse is that the inheritable Pact Blooms gives an innate plus 17 to 19 points of stats after a refine and also has a self healing effect (though its slightly weaker) so new units that don't have a prf can replicate its effect (though imo the condition is a bit more restrictive).

I feel like you're not looking at the right weapons... at all.

Ivaldi retains its original Def +3 effect, but it does not provide an additional +3 boost to any other stats. It does boost L'arachel's combat stats when the enemy is above 75% HP, but this isn't a physical boost, ergo it does not affect her BST.
Ayra's Blade does not have any effect on damage-reduction, nor does Regnal Astra. The refine lets her disable enemy skills like Heavy Blade, Guard, or refined Blazing Durandal.
Grimoire is... uh, if I'm honest you are really overhyping it. Yes the mobility it offers herself and others is great, and the AoE debuff is good for teams that rely largely on Magical damage, but... I mean, it's really not like it makes her one of the best units. It's good, but she still has meh defenses and can't really do anything about it.

In optimal conditions, L'Arachel will get +3 to all stats. This doesn't boost her bst, yeah, but it makes up for the 12 point stat deficit she'll have when compared to modern Mage Calvary.

My bad about Ayra. I just glossed over the refine effect haha. Still, disabling Guard and Special Fighter is really good for a character who is relying on Regnal Astra procs for damage.

Perhaps you're right that I'm overestimating Nowi, espicially since her BST is quite low by todays standards. Still, having that much mobility lets her do a ton of things other heroes can't. She might not be the best unit necessarily, but the refine does turn her into a must-have unit imo.

  5. I'm disappointed with Lyon's Refine because it forces him into an enemy-phase role only. This is fine, but it would have been nice to be able to use him in a different way.

L'Arachel's refine is kinda of disappointing too. The +3 too all stats puts L'Arachel's BST slightly above modern Tome Calvary after DF, and the refine effect is nice, but it isn't really any different than other weapons like Pact Blooms+. Considering the cost, I think I'll stick to just using Valentine Veronica.

Ayra's refine is really good. The innate +3 Atk / Spd put her attacking stats on par with Larcei, ignoring damage reduction skills on specials is good, and the additional +4 to all stats + innate damage reduction makes her the top sword infantry once again.

Nowi's refine is insane for both support and usability. I think this refine might make her one of the best heroes in the game. She'll open up a lot of movement options to other heroes, especially with Guidence. It also helps that her weapon has top tier supportive effect as well.

This is a bit preemptive, but I saw a post on twitter where they had Gatekeeper as a Hero. Assuming the results stay the way they are, how would these characters be implemented?

Byleth could either be a staff unit or Sothis 2.0 wearing the Sothis Regalia. Gatekeeper could be a Great Knight Axe Cavalier pls. I don't know enough about Eirika, Marth, or their games to theorycraft anything.

If I had to guess, I think they'd do the following

    • Marth: Green Mage Flier
    • Gatekeeper: Lance Infatry
    • Byleth: Colorless Mageor Staff Infantry
    • Erika: Sword Armor

Gatekeeper being a Lance Infantry is a no-brainer since he's based off the soldier class in 3 Houses. Byleth being a colorless mage or staff user also makes sense since the enlightened one class was proficient in Faith which makes it a shoe-in for colorless magic / staffs imo. Erika and Marth are honestly toss-ups since neither anything buf swords so the devs will have to take creative liberties with them. Erika could have her alt be based off her father, who is an armor unit in the creature campaign and uses a sword. Marth could have his alt based on his study buddies, Caeda and Merric, who could have taught him to fly and use Magic in his spare time.

An avatar would be cool but only if they get murdered in Belhalla. I don't want the avatar to survive that ruins the entire massacre. I don't give a crap about new players being disthrought. MURDER THE AVATAR IN BELHALLA.

Didn't FE5 imply some of the characters from FE4 generation 1 got turned into stone and survived? I think an FE4 remake should address that for some of the gen 1 characters and maybe the avatar as well if they include one.

  8. Been a while since I played this game, but IIRC, I thought mounted units were fairly well balanced outside of dismounting since their movement advantages were lost over stairs / other Cav hindering terrain and their stats weren't anything to write home about (my Cavs got easily doubled on some of my earlier playthroughs compared to other units). Most of the best Horse Classes were also Master Class, meaning they took a while to get.

Fliers lack a lot of the weaknesses that Cavs have. They don't have any terrain penalties, and I recall their stats being noticeably better too. Their only shortcoming to balance this is a weakness to bows, but Canto makes this a non-issue 99% of the time.

I think the best way to balance Fliers is to just nerf their movement and give them innate Pass instead of Canto.

I'm not sure many people actually think that (at least out of people who have played enough games in the series to judge), but it also depends on how you're judging it. Do you mean easiest of anything, or easiest of the hardest available options? If the former, 3H is probably only harder than Fates in Phoenix mode, because normal/casual has almost no fail state whatsoever and you have more options than other games to make your life easier. But if the latter, 3H maddening is definitely more difficult than some of the oft-cited easier FEs, like PoR and SS.

I'm basing it on a hard mode playthrough, not maddening and comparing it to other hard modes in the series on classic mode. I also define difficulty as the number of times a unit of mine dies due to poor planning (not just chapter restarts, since Divine Pulse throws a wrench into that).

I'm not going to say much more about POR or SS since its been a long time since I've played through them. However, I think 3 Houses on hard is at the very least more difficult that SoV on Hard.

  10. I'm surprised people consider 3H to be the easiest game in the series. Even on hard mode, I thought the game was reasonably challenging, especially post-timeskip. The game gives you less deployment slots than other games in the series like Fates and post-timeskip, most characters can't withstand more than 2-3 combats without getting KO'd since promoted enemies have Faire skills, so enemy phasing is more difficult than earlier entries.

What makes this game easier than other entries that are considered easy like Shadows of Valentia or Path of Radiance?

  11. Miranda looks pretty good. Fox Tome + Sturdy Impact seems better on her than Knoll due to her better speed tier. Don't like how similar the two are in though.

Veld's Weapon is actually really cool and seems like a great way to incorporate his OG weapon using Heroes mechanics. Unfortunately, his stat allocation is utter garbage, especially when put next to Miranda.

  12. Hinoka's refine seems like the best. Not only does she herself get big stat buffs, but she can pass it on to her allies too. The 3 space radius of the debuffs make it easier to work with than Gordin or Tharja's weapons.

Arden's refine is a disappointment. The base weapon is fantastic, but the refine effect seems iffy to me since it doesn't buff his main problem stat (his Res). If it was Atk -6 / Def -4 on the foe, than it would have been so much better imo.

The issue is, she takes a heart seal to be feasible to train, which is a steep opportunity cost when someone like Camilla could have used that to become better.

Seven (which I counted is the number of characters with wyvern in their class set) is not "very few", last I checked (admittedly, this does include Camilla, Beruka, and Percy, who start in the wyvern line) - and this is ignoring partner/friendship seal shenanigans. Of course, whether there's a reason to do so is another matter entirely. Also, I don't find Demoiselle so useful, as frankly, most men not named Corrin or Xander aren't worth fielding.

Issue is, unless you level her up as a troubadour and reclass her after promotion, you're stuck having to go through the sucktastic wyvern rider phase. Also, her getting Heartseeker is dependent on her marrying Odin, which, needless to say, won't always happen. Speaking of, you said this makes her the best pair up for Odin, to which I ask, why would I be using Odin in the first place, aside from using him long enough for him to marry so I could use his daughter instead? Especially since if Elise is in back as his pair up partner, she's not supporting my other units with Lily's Poise.

Doesn't change the fact that it's a shitty economic decision, as vulneraries, use for use, are far, far more expensive than a heal staff (100 gold per use vs 25). Also, the Jakob mention assumes I'm playing as a female Corrin, which ain't happenin'. That said, I'm okay with having vulneraries as backups, but not with relying mainly on them - this isn't Radiant Dawn, where you could feasibly do that.

Speaking as someone who was initially hesitant on using Wyvern Elise, you are underselling her. Granted, I am basing this on my current hard, casual mode playthrough of the game, so I may not be 100% accurate on how this stuff works on Lunatic.

    - Elise's Wyvern phase is actually where she performs best from my experience. Since its the early-game, her Strength and Speed are easily patched up via Tonics and forges and her decent speed lets her survive some encounters on enemy phase. Vulneraries are also OP in Conquest early-game cuz they heal a bigger portion of your health. Forged Bronze Axe also mostly fixes her hit-rate. Lily's Poise is also better in the early game since the damage and bulk boost is more notable. Currently, my Malig Elise's performance has dropped off drastically despite having access to Bolt Axe and Tomes since her speed isn't good enough to double and her bulk is trash, but this may be a byproduct of me early-promoting her. Camilla is definitely much better as a Malig Knight imo.

    - I don't think Heart Seal Camilla is really necessary. Even as a Malig Knight, she's still one of the best units in the game and Magic is still pretty great on her since its reliable 1-2 range that can double and can let her use some cool spells like Horse Spirit. Malig Knight's additional Res is also nice.

It is true that NYSH!Velouria is more for combat, but her positioning requirement is what turns me off a bit. As a super tank, the positioning requirement is not a big issue, but she lacks the double Spurn that BH!Ike has access to. For player phase though, that positioning requirement kind of shoehorns her into a Wings of Mercy Galeforcer role. I mean, I could give her a regular player phase build, but when her Weapon is screaming for Wings of Mercy Galeforce, having her use a regular player phase build feels rather unsatisfying.

Atk+7 and Spd+10 is not bad, but a lot of units can already hit harder and faster. He needs something more than that to be relevant in my opinion.

    Its technically Atk + 11 / Spd +13 / Def +4 / Res +4 + Study Impact effect. It seems like he'll do fine as a Galeforcer.

  15. I'm planning on eventually doing my first Lunatic runthrough of Fates Conquest once I'm finished with my current hard-mode playthrough. I'm not going to use any of the paid DLC (aside from Anna's mission). I will however make use of some of the DLC path bonuses (Boots, Dread Scroll, etc) and My Castle Bonuses. I've got a few questions before I do this playthrough though.

    • Are DLC classes even worth using? I made Nyx a witch and Niles a Balistician during my hard mode run and both have fallen off pretty fast. Nyx is too frail and inaccurate (though she is strong and fast) and Niles just sucks all around (low move, too frail, too weak, too inaccurate, chip damage actually drastically reduces my EXP gain). Also, do DLC classes get less experience than unpromoted classes?
    • How many units should I make use of? I'm thinking about using 18 units (15 gen 1 units + 3 child units).
    • Is Anna a better unit than Mozu?

Lilina is a great choice! If BB gets an Echoes remake, I'm sure she'll get the full lord treatment she deserves.

Really? I think she'll just be treated like Caeda and get a special prf that'll nuke the knights in her join chapter.

    Hoping I'm wrong though!

  17. She looks really good. An AOE special that is only 2 charge on a horse unit & built in anti-vantage seems pretty powerful to me. At least the multiplier on her AOE is only 0.8, so she'll have trouble breaking through Res-Stacked units. Her art is pretty great too.

Crossing my fingers that base Lilina gets Studios Forblaze as a weapon upgrade even though its extremely unlikely.

  18. Hilda is a pretty good demote. Even outside of my fondness of her, her fodder is actually unique and interesting!. Candy Cane+ is a fantastic lance since its packing both atk / def bond + Guard with a restriction that isn't that hard to satisfy. Atk Def Form 3 and Even Follow-Up aren't anything anything to write home about, but they are at least new skills that won't cost an arm & a leg to access. Definetly going to pick up at least one copy of her.

Felix is pretty cool too. He's the first Armored Bow unit we'll have access to and he'll be passible if he has the same weapon as Hilda. That being said, I'm generally not a fan of armored range units; they tend to feel a bit lacking w/o CC.

Other units on the banner look cool, but I don't have many orbs to spare for them.

  19. The game has some decent themes and all, but ultimately the context needed for a fair amount of them is either skimmed over or given a unsatisfying justification in game. Why is Takumi filled with so much more hate in Conquest than in either Birthright or Revelation? I'm guessing Anaknos but otherwise idk. Why does the throne room expose Garon's true form and what kind of symbolism is present here? IDK.

Personally, my biggest issue with Fates was never theming, but details like suspension of disbelief and dropped plot points. I think its awesome children were able to make a return for this game from Awakening, but the justification in-game for their existence via alternate dimension is pretty flimsy and creates WAY more questions than answers. Ultimately, I have to treat much of the events that unfold in the game regarding the children as non-canon because the logic behind the deep realm greatly confuses me. Corrin being a dragon is also awesome, but almost never brought up throughout the game.

All that being said, I do think Fates' narrative gets a bit too much hate and from a moment-to-moment basis its symbolism can shine through.

  20. What are the main new features this version of the game will add besides the turn rewind mechanic? I'll probably get this game either way just because it'll be interesting to experience FE1 without the additions Shadow Dragon added, but it would be nice to see them add a few more minor additions just to give the game more bang for my buck. Stuff like UI & Trading upgrades would be really nice to see.
