The rip for the song "Before Battle" actually cuts off around 33 seconds short. I assume this might be like this in some official material somewhere, as I have seen this song cut off at the same spot in multiple sources on the internet. Unfortunately: I cannot find a rip of the full song, but there's an extended version of it here:

As you can see, one full loop of the song ends at around 3:11, while the song on the site ends at 2:38. It's just like, a really odd place to cut it.

  2. Lyre swaps with Haar, huh? How is that gonna work with the sky map? Is she just gonna not show up that chapter and just be in the battle preps for 2-E? I doubt non-Flying units have movement data for the sky.

Also, Elincia is replacing Sigrun. Sigrun’s a level 19 2nd tier unit, while Elincia’s a level 1 third tier unit. That’s such a marginal difference in level that you might as well keep her the same.

I did the same thing, but have it working. Looking forward to playing this game for the first time!

I'm using the old hakchi 2 (not ce) with retroarch to run this game. Try downloading retroarch with a snes9x core. I'm pretty sure you still need to add '--retroarch' at the end of the command line to make retroarch run it on the ce version. If I'm wrong, just look up how to use snes cores with retroarch in hakchi 2ce. Have another go, it's definitely possible. Good luck!

Hey, it’s been awhile, but I did finally get it to work. This also let me play Thracia and Wario’s Woods on my snes classic. Thanks for the help!

B- this is exactly why yeti doesn't want you knowing the growths. you devalue all the work harken puts in in the intermediate time because all you care about is the endgame

No, that’s not it. Harken is a trainee unit. As such, I fed him a lot of experience. I’m not overvaluing endgame. He has low bases and needs to grow to keep up.

That being said, I continued playing and Harken leveled speed like 4 times, so whatever.

It's not that people won't expect the RNG, it's that people won't consider other arguably more important factors, such as base stats and starting level, utility, challenges faced, supports, etc.

Because of stat colouring, growths can also be calculated with a few playthroughs/a little crowd sourcing. Less data's needed if you don't need as exact an idea. However, yeah, character balance is good enough that in general you should be dropping redder units and keeping green ones. So you can find the growths, but not without getting a sense on how base stats and starting level (and other aspects of the unit) affect their performance. You'll also get a sense of some of the challenges these units will face (at least in the first half of the game). Basically, giving growths right away can easily give a false sense of what units will be like in the future, with so many other unknowns.

See but I've played plenty of fire emblem before. Pretty much anyone who's playing this has played plenty of fire emblem before. I know all these things already. I don't see how knowing the growths would change that. I wouldn't really say supports are more important than growths. Supports don't let me double units. Also I'd like to point out that Uther's team has 7 trainees. When it comes to most of them, you could argue that growths are more important, as they are going to be leveling up a lot, so it will account for a lot of their stats. I'm kinda getting sidetracked here though. The point is that revealing the growth rates of the characters would just be a nice convenience for the players, and I just think it's dumb to hide them. People are gonna figure them out eventually, so you might as well cut out the middle man and reveal them yourselves. It doesn't even have to be in the game or anything. They could release a text document for all I care. It wouldn't normally be that big of a deal, but becuse the game has so many trainees, who rely a lot on their growths to be good, I'd have liked to know them in advance. Like, had I known that Harken would be so Incredibly slow, I probably wouldn't feed him as much experience as I did, and maybe promoted Isadora and Cybil quicker.

  6. But what if they gave him the Mecurius? It was his personal weapon in fe1 after all. It could maybe be a legendary firesweep sword, to replicate its attack sealing affect in fe1. If that’s not good enough for a legendary hero, well maybe it can be a firesweep sword that can counterattack. I mean, we just got a brave sword that works in enemy phase, so it’s not like it’s unprecedented.

  7. I’m a little disappointed about the second Reinhardt and Olwen. I would have rather seen some new blood from Thracia, especially since Reinhardt will be pity breaking my quest for Leif (even if Reinhardt’s sword is horrifying). I’m assuming they did this because Reinhardt and Olwen topped the popularity pool, even though the only reason they did was because they were the only Thracia characters in the game. Olwen’s cool, but outside of Heroes, who really gives a shit about Reinhardt? I’m just salty because no Othin, though maybe that’s a good thing, because when they do add Othin, i’m frightened the Pugi will receive a name change. They won me back with that Silas grand hero battle, though. I’m hella stoked for that.

  8. So obviously we’ re gonna see the Thracia banner, but what I’m excited about is who the 4th unit will be. Like, for almost every 3 person banner, we almost always get a 4th, through grand hero battle, tempest trail, shady Arya stuff, or, most recently, as a legendary hero(though this could be seen as shady Ayra stuff). I want to know who else they could add. I predict:

-If it’s a grand hero battle, then probably Redrick, since Reinhardt’s already in the game, and I don’t think anyone wants Veld. I could also see a Galzus ghb, but you don’t see ghb for recruitable characters very often.

    - If it’s a tempest trial reward, then I expect someone like Othin or Linoan. I guess they could also due Mareeta, but there’s so many quick sword users in the game that I sure hope not. They could also go the Arden rout and add someone memey, like Marty, which would be awesome.

    - I don’t want them to add a legendary hero, as I rarely Summon from those banners, but I think if they did, Ced would work extremely well. He certainly fits the legendary part well, plus he has a strong affinity for wind, and the next legendary hero is going to be wind or Ice based. I would be both excited and upset if they did this. I love Ced, but really don’t like legendary hero banners.

No way. It was annoying in FE7, and it'd do nothing but slow things to a crawl here.

This sounds like naive idealism, and I vehemently disagree - far as I'm concerned, IS only got lucky with Shadows of Valentia, and screwed up royally with Shadow Dragon (which I STILL haven't forgiven, btw). I think that a FE4 remake has a lot of potential to be either a disaster or really amazing - and I think the minimalist approach you're advocating practically ensures it's the former, in addition to pissing off the camp that would want nothing to do with it if it didn't change enough (Hint: This post happens to be by someone who's firmly in that camp!). Of course, there are those that wouldn't have anything to do with it if it changed too much. Which makes me think IS is in a lose-lose situation here.

Anyway, on to changes that would improve the game:

    • Get rid of the pawn shop. Why is it a thing when it's a huge step backwards from normal trading, which literally every other game had??? It only serves as a massive inconvenience when a unit winds up getting something they can't use.
    • Tweak the money system. The individual money system is a massive PITA to work around, and too restricting.
    • Rebalance the weapon types. It's obvious something's wrong when fire magic can't even measure up to wind magic in practice...
    • Add healing items.
    • Get rid of Pursuit. All it does is make those without it automatically worse than those with it.
    • Make infantry units more viable.
    • Nerf holy weapons.

I agree with most these changes, but I feel like there could be a way to balance out the game while pursuit is still a skill. Characters with Holy weapons could not have pursuit or something. I wouldn’t mind if they just gave everyone pursuit, but I feel like they could do something interesting with it if they kept it in.

In the character pages for both conquest and Birthright, Gunter is listed as a shared character when he is in fact Conquest exclusive. This is true for the introductions, base stats, growth rates, recruitment, and personal skill pages for both games. While I understand he’s playable before the rout split, so are Rinka and Sakura, so there’s really no reason to count him as a shared character.

So this complaint seems to have been ignored, and it’s really triggering me. Gunter isn’t in birthright. Please fix this.

  11. Veronica shot all the way up to 2nd place? I mean I’lol take it. Veronica has a pretty great design, so I’m glad she won over Camilla. I would have rather have had Lute or something, but that’s pie in the sky. I’m pleasantly surprised, and glad my predictions were wrong. This is much more interesting.

    Dudes:

1-Hector: sword knight. Weapon: Unsure. Appearance: Maybe older Hector from Binding Blade

2-Ephraim: mounted axe. Weapon: Garm. Appearance: using Duessel's armor . OR armored sword. Weapon: Whatever is Fado's personal blade. Appearance: Fado's armor

    Ladies

1-Celica: red sword. Weapon: her personal blade. Appearance (?)

2-Camilla..... not so sure. She could be a possible reclass or something, with a weapon she normally wouldn't wield with the excuse someone else taught her to use, like Erika recently

They could just give Hector blazing Durandal and call it a day. He is Lycian too, after all.

As for Celica’s appearance, I think her overclass could work. She had a neat design. Having two red units on one banner would be bad though, so she could be just a different color mage.

    so

i guess basically everyone stopped voting for eirika, since "she got her new version" a thing nobody could've known about anyway, so there's no reason to stop voting for eirika

you know, i voted for levin the first three days, and voted for celica yesterday

now eirika's going to get my next 3 votes, because i don't want THE FOURTH VERSION OF CAMILLA in the game

i have my very personal theory about what happened:

i think IntSys prepares a bunch of artworks and characters (4 or 5) for every game-themed banner, like this SS banner

now, what i think happened is that IntSys noticed that there was no Awakening/Fates character in neither of the Top 2, and since eirika is just under camilla, as we now know, she should've been 2nd before the banner released

i think they put this second version of eirika, instead of a potential different character with the intention of making people stop voting for her in the CYL event, and let camilla be 2nd, because we know how importat awakening and fates are to IntSys *typical italian gesture meaning "money"*

i know it's complete bullshit and that i'm probably going to be banned for this but i like to believe it

    please don't insult me <3

I can’t really wrap my head around the idea that putting another version of a character in the game would somehow result in them getting less votes. If anything, it would have the opposite effect, as it puts the character more in the spotlight. Look how much support Camilla’s gotten. Am I upset they added another version of Erika in the game? Yes, but that’s because I don’t like Erika and there were a bunch of really great sacred stones characters they could have added instead. But here’s the thing: I was never going to vote for Erika in the first place. If they added another version of Hector(the character I’ve been voting for this whole time) I wouldn’t be like “ew, more of a thing I like” I’d be like “sweet, more Hector! I love that guy.”

I realize it was just a dumb theory you had, but I found it dumb in that it just makes literally no sense.

  14. Holy shit Tharja completely dropped. Unfortunately Camilla didn’t. I would have much rather seen Tharja in top 2 than Camilla, or even Erika, but it can’t be helped. And I did not expect Celica to be number one! I thought I heard that Faye was more popular in Japan? Well I’m glad we seem to be getting 2 characters I like! I hope that (but don’t expect) Marth surpasses Ephraim.

I think most Ike voters will go for Hector and Ephraim. I could see some Ike voters going for Micaiah as well because she becomes the de facto face of Tellius with Ike's removal. Most Lyn voters will go the way of Hector, Eliwood, Nino and possibly Eirika. Most Roy voters will probably go for Eliwood, Marth and possibly Micaiah. Lucina voters will most likely go for Chrom, Robin, Marth and maybe Tharja.

Overall, I think Hector benefits the most and since he was in third place among the males, he's almost guaranteed to be the top male character in popularity. Marth is an interesting case because his votes are split so if they combine him, I think he can win second place. Otherwise, Chrom will most likely win second place. Ephraim could do very well but since he performed worse than the others, I don't think he'll win.

All in all I think the male poll will go like this:

    1. Hector

    2. Chrom

    3. Marth

    4. Ephraim

    5. Robin

Tharja and Camilla had a massive lead over the other females but they probably won't gain many votes from the previous CYL winners so I see the fight will be a lot closer. Celica is a wildcard but since SoV didn't do anywhere near as well as Awakening and Fates, she'll have a hard time besting those two. Eirika has the most potential due to being the most liked non Awakening and Fates character but she's receiving a banner which will shift votes away from her. Micaiah would get a lot more recognition due to being a recent release but that might also work against her because people are most likely not looking for another version of Micaiah so soon.

All in all I think the female poll will go like this:

    1. Tharja

    2. Camilla

    3. Eirika

    4. Micaiah

    5. Celica

I think people are overestimating the power of memes. Dorcas was the highest rank meme character and he didn't get into top 10 males. Also, there are a bunch of meme units to thin out the poll including Brigand Boss, Dorcas, Wrys, Nino, Reinhardt, Arden and Oliver. I don't think any of them barring maybe Nino will make it to the top 5.

Marth could potentially surpass Chrom. I bet a lot of Roy voters voted for him because smash bros, as I honestly cannot think of any other reason to vote for Roy. Plus, I bet a lot of Fe12 Marth voters will vote for fe11 Marth instead, as fe11 Marth did way better, so they might switch just so a version of Marth wins. I’m not counting Chrom out, Awakening is still a stupidly popular game, but Marth’s got a shot.

I’d like to think Celica will do better, as she’s the best female lord in the series, but unfortunately not a lot of people see that. At the very least, I think she’ll beat Micaiah.

  16. 3 hours ago, Lushen said:

I mean there's no arguing that Marth mains voted for Marth because of smash.  So those voters are perfectly movable and I think the smash community's impact is much smaller.  Either way, Ephraim has definitely gained in popularity due to FEH and all this new SS content is probably putting people in the mood to vote for the Renais twins.

I just don’t see Ephraim gaining all that much popularity from heroes. Sure, he’s really good in heroes, to the extent that I use him even though I don’t really like him, but it’s not like sacred stones was a particularly obscure fe game before, it being a lot of people’s first fe (not as much as fe7, but still). I just don’t see him actually gaining too many new fans from feh.

If we assume it’s like last time (too 2 boys and top 2 girls)

chrom has a chance. He’s 4th place and the 5th place boy is gone so 6th place would have to jump to 4th...

but most Ike voters won’t vote for Chrom. They’ll pick Marth and there were lots of Ike voters

not to mention Chrom got 2 extra Axe variations already which will lower his votes...

so sadly Chrom has no chance really.

So idk if I should be hopeful and vote him or vote someone else I like and can see winning. Or characters who won’t win but I want IS to know I care.

I don’t see why Chrom having 2 seasonal variants hurts his chances that much. Like, it may make a few people salty that he’s in the game so much, but not really the people who would be voting for him in the first place. Like, it could hurt him a little, but not to the extent where he’d have no chance. He had a pretty large lead over Marth, and I’m thinking most Ike voters will actually go to Hector, as they’re more similar. Chrom could be threatened if they combine the Marth votes, but they probably won’t.

edit: Roy fans will probably vote Marth though, considering smash bros is like, the only reason to vote Roy.

  17. 10 minutes ago, Lushen said:

Remember Marth only beat Ephraim by 900.  And I think Ephraim has moved up and Marth down.

As for females, I would not trust the reddit poll at all with females.  The reason I trust the males is because I expect most of the casuals (80+%) to vote for females.  This makes the females really unpredictable but if I'm right they'll end up leaving the male vote to reddit and the JP folks.

Doubt Marth’s gone down at all. I feel like he’s sorta immovable in his popularity. He’s kinda a big deal.

    EDIT: As for their weapons/classes

Hector - Sword Armour. Something about it being his brother's sword.
    Chrom - Bow infantry.
Tharja - Blue tome pegasus knight.
    Camilla - Green tome horse.

Hector could just have blazing Durandal. He is Lycian too, after all.

I would not use a reddit poll to extrapolate what will happen in CYL2 at all.

Reddit has a far, far, far higher concentration of old school FE fans than FE:H at whole. While is certainly nice data to have, in terms of guessing how CYL2 will go its effectively meaningless.

Likewise, don't assume things like say, people will learn from the last CYL and rally around one particular version of a character (Marth). Quite frankly, the general play base fall under one of the following: 1) not smart enough to pick up on that idea 2) has that idea but thinks version B instead of version A should be the rallying point 3) wasn't around for the original CYL and has no idea about the vote splits. Marth is doomed because of this. Don't think he will ever be able to secure a top 2.

Considering Garnefe was high up there, we should talk the Reddit poll with a tiny grain of salt. Really don’t think Heroes brought in a ton more Ephraim fans, so he’ll probably still get beaten by Marth.

  19. 2 hours ago, Clogon said:

Rein will definitely be top ten. Heck, I would even say top 5 and it won't be just because of memes (he was popular in FEH before them). This CYL event is open to all FEH users. Rein is one of the strongest and most available heroes being a 4*. Many users rely on him to clear the FEH content and therefore will get attached to him.

Previous CYL only had FE fans vote, now it will mainly be FEH players. It will be interesting to see how unit balance in FEH affects this poll.

Sure, Reinhardt’s really good, but no one really cares about his character. Memes will get him so far, but Leif will likely still have more votes.

I think there will be a stir up of the lower ranks but the top spots will be similar to what we saw before with Hector and Chrom/Ephraim for guys and Tharja and Camilla for girls. The only other girl I can see threatening the top spot is Azura because of utility in Heroes.

The color balance might be pretty horrid if they go with their alt weapons. Sword Hector, Lance Chrom, Dark Knight (Sword or Dark Magic) Tharja and Mage Flier Camilla looks like 3 reds and a blue to me. They are conceptually interesting, however. I wonder if they have have a theme like the last CYL or just all do their own thing.

They don’t have to be red mages. Although looking back, one of them would probably be colorless. Maybe Chrom could wield a bow?
