  1. Seconding Azura!Nina. The primary reason to make Setsuna!Nina is to make her a Sniper, not necessarily to make her a good mom. The other mods from the magic mothers really put a damper on Kana's viability.
  2. Yep. And on Hans' chapter, its unfun map design only makes it difficult if you actually try to strategize instead of just low-manning and tossing Ryoma at whatever problem you're having.
  3. I can totally see where you're coming from. I was really disappointed with the supports, too, though I agree with you that they were generally not as bad as Awakening's worst ones. But the best Awakening supports completely outshine the best Fates supports. I did find the humor in Fates to be a lot funnier than in Awakening, though--especially the humor in Keaton's supports. This might be a bit of an unpopular opinion, but I actually love that Severa, Inigo, and Owain came back. I just wish they were better units, haha. I definitely don't dig the Hoshidan kids of 1st gen Awakening, though. It's a little different than the thing with Inigo, Severa, and Owain, because those three are LITERALLY the same characters, while the Hoshidan units are pretty much unnecessary tributes. I haven't played Heirs of Fate yet, but I am one of the people who loved Future Past. I can't comment on that. And yeah, I do wish that Fates tried to distance itself a little bit more from Awakening. I don't mind the 3 Awakening kids coming back, but I don't think that everything Awakening did should exactly become a new staple of the franchise.
  4. From dictionary.com: Wow, look at me, I can cherrypick a definition that best supports my stance, too!
  5. I'm inclined to argue that they really didn't put their all into Awakening. The map design was lazy, the balance was nonexistent, and the music was lackluster. Fates (especially Conquest) has a lot more thought into it in all three of those regards, in my opinion. I think the only part where they were really "lazy" in Fates was with the children. "Yeah, uh...well, see, you somehow managed to have a baby immediately after you got married, and then you jammed it into an alternate dimension where they aged faster. It makes sense, trust us." But yeah, it probably is a subjective thing. Your experience with the game is still totally valid, because it's your own. Pretty cool how two people can look at the same thing and have a totally different opinion about it, tbh.
  6. I don't really care about it at all as long as it's between two consenting, canon adults. It's just a video game. Incest doesn't really "have a place" in Fire Emblem, though, because it's such a minor part of it that it can be pretty easily overlooked. No one would miss it or care if it left, and not many would notice or care if it was still there. Also, for all the shit that Fates gets about its "incest," I think it's pretty dumb since Corrin is supposed to represent the PLAYER. If I want to marry a royal, I'm not literally marrying my adoptive brother IRL. I'm "marrying" a fictional character of my choosing. Like yeah, I get that they call you brother/sister and shit, but regardless, it is still ME "marrying" someone. And even if you argue that Corrin is his/her own character, the point still remains that they aren't related. Azura is the exception, but oddly no one seems to complain about her.
  7. Don't worry. Anyone who dies in the first 5 chapters, casual or classic, will come back immediately after you choose your path. On top of that, the game itself gets significantly easier after chapter 6. This being said, follow avengerfive's advice if you still want to "keep everyone alive," ESPECIALLY the Kaze/Rinkah pairup. It's also a great map to sing grind with Azura if you have patience.
  8. It's great that you like Awakening so much, because I like it a lot, too. But, you're taking your feelings towards the game and acting like the developers feel that way, too.
  9. Are you legitimately blaming a video game for causing your accident? Like, it's the video game's fault for "making you" want it so badly that you were in a rush? I think your body's recovery must be going very well, because HOLY SHIT you can reach far.
  10. I think the OP had the best ideas so far in this thread, but I'm loving everyone's creativity.
  11. Let the homeless thief steal that spot on your ring finger.
  12. They don't call Birthright "Ryoma Emblem" for nothing, you know.
  13. Made a pro/con list. Awakening PROS - Great introduction to the series, which is what ultimately saved it. - Callbacks were nice. - The character interaction of the army as a whole. Maybe the fanart is clouding my perception, but the army really felt like a quirky, if slightly dysfunctional, family. I can't say the same thing about Fates. - Future Past is great. - Outrealms making EVERYTHING canon makes me laugh a lot. CONS - The biggest challenge of the game is making it a challenge. - Story is barely passable. Boring/average at best, riddled with holes at worst. - Forgettable music. I personally don't get the love for Id (Purpose)--it sounds completely flat to me. - Localization changes are worse than the ones in Fates, IMO. - Many supports focus on gimmicks. Poor Kellam. - Massive portion of the game is pure, boring filler. Filler isn't always bad, but on every playthrough of Awakening I found myself not playing as much once I got to Valm. - SHIPPING. WARS. Fates PROS - Gameplay. - The music literally gives me chills. I love how much work was put into every track. Each route has so much personality imbued into the music. It's one of my favorite video game OSTs of all time. - Gameplay. - While Awakening had the "family" dynamic, I like the individual characters in Fates more than in Awakening. In Awakening, I liked Owain, Frederick, Inigo, Henry, Gregor, Virion, and Cherche the most as standalone characters. In Fates, I can't name every character I like on their own without naming almost the entire cast. - Did I talk about how much I love the gameplay? - My Castle is very addictive and fun, though I wish I could use it in Conquest without upsetting the balance. I play the Japanese version and LOVE the petting. - Nohr and Hoshido are far more interesting than Ylisse, Valm, Ferox, and Plegia. CONS - Story is ridiculous. I enjoyed Conquest's story because it just felt campy and I had a lot of fun with it, but Birthright was pretty boring (plus people who I felt no attachment towards died for literally no fucking reason and I felt very little attachment to 2 of the characters who died) and Revelations was insultingly bad. I actually got mad at Birthright after Xander did the thing in his chapter and wanted to keep fighting, so mad that I just mashed Start and immediately 1-rounded him. His reasoning after the battle was just even more stupid and unnecessarily cryptic. - The way they reworked weapons is...interesting, but I think there are just too many punishments for using a "good" weapon. No reason not to forge. - Only 1 of the 3 games is actually challenging for reasons that aren't RNG bullshit. - Oh yeah, and the fact that you have to buy 3 games to get the entire picture is pretty bad. The Special Edition existing proves that they could have just put it all on one cartridge. But they didn't, and people bought all 3 versions anyway. I really, REALLY hope this doesn't start a trend. - So many localization mistakes. At times, the grammar errors make it feel like a fanlation as opposed to something Nintendo paid for. - Shoehorned children. So, all in all, I liked Awakening when I played it. I still do like it, but I don't think I can play it and enjoy it as much as I did my first few playthroughs now that I've played Fates. As a game, despite its many flaws, I prefer Fates to Awakening. I'm sure that the same will be true for the next installment of Fire Emblem. This means the series is improving, which makes me really happy.
  14. Yeah, pretty true. All I did was make a +Def -Lck F!Corrin. Paired Rinkah up with her and tanked every hit until I got Ryoma. Then I just solo'd most maps with Ryoma/Corrin. Felt disgusting.
