  1. No. I specifically made this thread so we could brainstorm and think of Mario characters that would be good candidates/choices for the Mario Kart/Mario spinoff games, not so people can suggest any and every guest characters they personally want in. With all the complaints of generic Mario enemies and baby/metal/fire/tanooki/cat/etc. versions of Mario characters being used as playable characters, I made this thread so we as a group could think of and list good candidates that could replace Mario characters that people complain about, from a character roster perspective (eg: many people complain about how there's 4 baby characters stealing roster slots in Mario Kart Wii). I was interested in seeing SF members dig deep into Mario lore and list Mario characters that they think should have the spotlight in Mario Kart/Mario spinoff games, and perhaps have new life breathed into them (like what Super Mario Odyssey did for Pauline or what Mario Tennis 64 did for Daisy). Luigi's Mansion/Yoshi/Donkey Kong/Wario universe characters are fine, since they have heavy ties to the Mario universe.
  2. What Mario characters do you think should show up more in Mario spinoff games? Or what Mario characters that haven't been playable yet in Mario spinoffs should be playable? Feel free to comment on the character picks of other SF members, so long as you're respectful about it. I'm particularly interested in hearing what characters I pick that you guys agree/disagree with, and why. For the former, I think Kamek, Nabbit, Toadsworth, Boom Boom, Pom Pom, King Bob-omb, and Pauline should show up more. None of them have even appeared in a mainline Mario Kart yet (though some of them showing up in Mario Kart Tour is a good start). Also, fun fact: in the beta stages of Mario Kart 64, Kamek was supposed to be playable, but was replaced by Donkey Kong (that wasn't a bad of a choice in my eyes, though Kamek still not being playable in a mainline Mario Kart title 6 games later is a bit ridiculous). For the latter, Wart, Mouser, and E. Gadd are definitely on the top of my list. I really think they'd have the potential to be fan favourite characters in Mario spinoff games, especially Wart. I suppose Triclyde, Fry Guy, and Clawgrip would also be cool additions to Mario spinoffs, but with their weird body structures, I can understand them being hard to animate and implement in Mario spinoffs (well, animating Fry Guy would likely be easy if they go with the "no hands" route). I'll admit, I've spent a bit too much time trying to figure out how Triclyde would ride a bike/motorcycle in Mario Kart games. At least Triclyde in a kart could work: with two heads steering and his tail on the pedal. I've also felt that Poochy and Polterpup could potentially make for good playable characters in Mario spinoffs, though with their body structure being really weird for Mario spinoff games, I don't blame people who disagree. I still think their body structure would work for Mario Kart games, for both karts and bikes. And if we really want to dig deep into Mario lore and find characters to use instead of generic enemies or baby/metal/fire/tanooki/cat/etc. versions of characters, there's: Tatanga (the Super Mario Land 1 final boss, and a boss in Super Mario Land 2) Foreman Spike (a rival/enemy in Wrecking Crew, who's confirmed to appear in the 2022 Mario Movie) Stanley (from Donkey Kong 3) Lakithunder (a boss from Super Mario Bros. DS. He's the only newcomer boss in that game with a body shape suited for Mario spinoffs.) Boss Sumo Bro (a boss from New Super Mario Bros. U and Paper Mario: The Origami King) Motley Bossblob (a boss from Super Mario 3D World. He's the only newcomer boss in that game with a body shape suited for Mario spinoffs, unless you're okay with Prince Bully and him having no hands) Burt the Bashful (he's technically a Yoshi boss, but he's a heavily prevalent one. Also, the Yoshi series is far more tied to/connected to the Mario universe than the Donkey Kong or Wario universe, with Bowser, Shy Guys, and Koopas playing a prevalent role in Yoshi games)
  3. Really epic stuff. The combination of violin, rock , and choir-like voices work beautifully. 9.5/10 13. Within the Giant Arrangement - DISSIDIA FINAL FANTASY NT OST - YouTube
  4. Sorry, but it was way too dark for my tastes. For the below video, stop at the 3:48 mark.
  5. A really upbeat, epic battle song. I feel like it's kind of missing something, though (like another set of instruments in the background). It's still a great song overall. 8.3/10
  6. The heavy metal-medieval mix seems weird on paper, but the final result is really epic and it works greatly. For the below video (as per the 4 minute rule), stick to 0:00-2:56 and 3:59-5:03. Also, to give the video context (I highly recommend turning the captions on): Ratafak was a character from a children's show in Czechoslovakia that aired from 1979 to 1994. Of note was that his TV show aired during the time of communism in Czechoslovakia.
  7. How would you describe yourself, personality-wise? Yep, I do.
  8. I love mystical/ethereal songs like these. 9.3/10 Note that the below song IS actually a video game song, since the rendition and lyrics originated/were created specifically for an official video game.
  9. It's pretty neat seeing the origin of horror films, and what they were like when the genre was first created. I'll admit, I don't think it aged well, but I can appreciate the effects they were trying to go for, and what they had available at the time.
  10. Action-packed, emotional, and epic. An awesome song, overall. 9.3/10
  11. Because most skill/character building activities are work, sadly. What would you personally think of a superhero with mosquito themed gear/weapons, but doesn't actually use real mosquitoes to fight?
  12. Since you mentioned never experiencing snow, what snow related activities are on the top of your list, if you ever got to go somewhere that had snow? (snow related activities being things such as sledding, snowball fights, tasting snow, making taffy with snow and maple syrup, etc.) It'd have to be Kirby Star Allies, due to it being multiplayer co-op, having so many abilities and characters to choose from (I especially liked the Dream Friends added in the updates. Most of them anyways), having so many different team up abilities and combos, and for being an amazing tribute to the Kirby series as a whole.
  13. With gigantic game worlds come gigantic download times. Thankfully downloading a game is a one-time deal. What percentage of alternate timelines out there didn't have coronavirus?
  14. A really beautiful, otherworldly tune. Considering it's from 1996, the tune was definitely ahead of its time and holds up really well today. Organ Donor Commercial (1985) Youtube
  15. What countries have you lived in/visited/vacationed in? With me mostly playing Super Mario Maker 2 and/or Kirby games these days, and neither of them having female characters that are that prominent within said games, there aren't really any characters that I can outright list as my favourite fictional female character. ...though if I absolutely had to list one, I guess I'd go with Fluttershy. It's been around 6 months since I last watched the show she's from, but she was my most favourite female fictional character for the longest time, due to her cuteness and how nice, sweet, and mild-mannered a character she was.
  16. What TV shows did you grow up with, as a kid? I do. As for how I deal with it, I put on extra layers, whether it's clothing for outside/inside or blankets when I sleep. In particular, I double up on socks since I get frostbite on my feet rather easily. Even being in my basement for too long in the winter gets me feet frostbite, despite having two pairs of socks on.
  17. Cute. I thought dog hiccups would be louder, though... Mõmmi ja Aabits - YouTube
  18. @twilitfalchion - Who are some of your favourite Marvel or DC superheroes that haven't shown up in the Marvel Cinematic Universe or the DC Extended Universe yet? I feel like RNG/luck is an inevitable in any kind of RPG/SRPG. And I'm okay with that, so long as percents and hit rates are high enough for basic things like weak/regular attacks and spells. FE6 levels of evasion/missing and healing staff accuracy from FE5 are cases where I draw the line. Wrong thread? I think you meant to post this in the "Something the above poster would never say" thread.
  19. Since you're into writing, what are some of the biggest fears you have in regards to what would happen after your work gets released to the public? For example, I'd be afraid of all the NSFW art people would make of my characters and people easily seeing through/correctly guessing upcoming plot twists and reveals despite my best attempts to be subtle about them. Morshu and his "Mmm" from the CD-I Zelda games. I don't find either of those two anywhere nearly as funny as everything else from the CD-I Zelda games, and I feel like there are other NPC that are far funnier and deserve more attention, like Ushrom, the Magic Cloak Lady, the Baker, Mayor Kravendish, and many others.
  20. What is your least favourite meme or online joke/reference? I guess I'll answer multiplayer, even though I haven't been able to play games multiplayer with friends/family for quite a while. The multiplayer experiences I did have in the past and the feeling of cooperatively defeating a level/boss together were way more epic and enjoyable than most of the single player experiences I've had.
  21. If you could be immune to any one of the 7 capital/deadly sins (eg: pride, anger, lust), which one would you pick and why? Honestly, it's not worth it unless you're unemployed and not in school and need something to do to pass the time while waiting for job application responses (that was the case for me around a year or so back). Even then, it's really frustrating in terms of the amount of spare time it eats up, the peace of mind it ruins, and having to deal with "leaderboard predators" who specifically/repeatedly attack you to lower your score/position and raise theirs. If I wasn't so high on the leaderboards already (#19 on the First Clears leaderboard and #25 on the World Record/speedrunning leaderboards) and if it wasn't for coronavirus making the majority of hobbies unavailable and the leaderboard upkeep giving me a lot of mileage out of one game with me not having to frequently buy games to keep myself not bored I likely would've quit a while ago.
  22. You get your wish and your sleeping habits are much more controlled and healthy, but you lose 2-3 hours per day more than usual due to you using that time to sleep. I wish that the Red Green Show and its jokes/inventions were more popular and more referenced online as memes.
  23. Pretty epic stuff. I really like the ambience and the warchant-like voices of the song. Jackie Chan Chinese Zodiac Fight Scene Clip - YouTube
  24. Piano tunes in general have an easier time hitting "that emotional chord" compared to other musical instruments. If one of your close friends wanted to undergo an operation because it'd kill off their capability to fall in love or have crushes and they'd never have to suffer romantic rejection/heartbreak, would you let them do it or would you try to talk them out of it? Explain the reasoning behind your choice.
