  1. Hmm, Cold Steel IV is on sale for $36 instead of $42. I'm not going to get it now, obviously, but it's good to know. Hopefully it's not a one time thing; another year means a drop in sale price, maybe. That means the sale price will be even lower when I can finally play it. I also found that it and Cold Steel III were released physically on the Switch, though getting it digitally might be less of a hassle. I planned on making progress in Sky SC today, but instead the gang played poker followed by Estelle Bright: Ace Attorney (with Kloe as her assistant, Schera as her mentor, and Olivier as the detective who doesn't contribute anything). I wonder what happens if you make a mistake during the gambling sidequest. Do you have to start the whole thing over again?
  2. I'd rather wait for the Switch version to release, and it's not like I won't have anything to play beforehand. Heck, even Breath of the Wild 2 and Chris Pratt Mario will probably be released by then. I was considering that, if the mood struck me, but that's still a ways off. I happened to watch a getting into Trails video before getting FC, so I know CSI and II are largely self contained. I still cannot finish Cold Steel until after Azure however. I was smart enough to get into the series after it was announced that every game will get an English release, truly my wisdom knows no bounds. Or maybe I should've waited until after Reverie released... "Cause at the end of the day, long as there's two people left on the planet, someone is gonna want someone dead." -the Sniper
  3. But I can't finish Cold Steel until after Azure releases, so will people still be arguing about it a year from now? ... Nevermind, that's probably a stupid question. I'll probably find enjoyment in Cold Steel if the plot and characters are interesting, and it'll be nice to see the Sky characters again (eventually, when I play IV). Trails in the Sky has one character who's geared towards healing, but Trails's magic system is like Final Fantasy VII's in that you give characters items, called quartz, that let them use spells. Every character can use every quartz, but most characters have slots reserved for a specific element (of which there are seven), like the aforementioned healer who favors Water quartz.
  4. I volunteer to be Eddie Brock, because by the time I figure out what everyone's arguing about, the conflict is already over.
  5. Maybe, but it has HD Rixia and that makes it good. True, but just because you're supposed to play Crossbell first doesn't mean Cosmo did. I didn't know if Cosmo used the fan translation. My apologies, I acknowledge you as a true Trails fan. Though I can barely remember what happened in this thread last week, much less last year. I have faith that you can finish it in a week, assuming you ever get a PS5.
  6. I agree, but I can't remember the last time you said something positive about Trails. Anelace is slightly Estelle's senior (in age and bracerhood), so I don't fully count her as a "same age" friend. I wonder if she got a bigger role than the other Grancel bracers in the prologue because she had positive fan reception. I heard Reverie might be released by mid-2023, so hopefully we don't have to wait until the end of 2023, but don't quote me on that. I have eight games to play by then... Has Lightcosmo played the Crossbell games yet?
  7. Trails in the Sky SC chapter 1 in a nutshell I hope the scene of Estelle and Kloe's girl talk wasn't optional, it would be a shame to miss out on developing Kloe's character. Maybe Estelle and Kloe should ditch Joshua and date each other instead. Jokes aside it's nice that Estelle has a non-Joshua friend her age, since the rest of the party members are either notably older or younger than she is.
  8. Geez, SC really is more difficult to start out with than the first game. It's funny how the plot acknowledges that enemies are stronger than in the previous game, but it feels like any random encounter can ruin my day. It's probably a combination of me having only two party members and not having many advanced arts/equipment yet. Not to mention that the first monster extermination is basically the bosses of FC's second chapter, except there are three of them. But it sounds like a certain Insensitive Jerk is at the nearby town. Kevin, save me! Or since I'm near Jenis Royal Academy, Kloe, save me! But that doesn't explain why the lab members have numbers either. How were they decided?
  9. Since you also like Lloyd and Elie as a couple, I think you have a thing for "canon" pairings. Estelle can breathe a sigh of relief, knowing that you would pair her with Joshua even if they weren't a fixed pairing. See, that's why you go south for winter vacations. Or at least that's what I do.
  10. Studying is very important for achieving academic success. Rean won't have a fulfilling educational experience if he just looks up the answers. Yes but they have a fast forward button. OT's combat being more tedious is another reason why leveling up characters is a hassle, and Sky's experience scaling for lower-leveled characters is fairly generous from my experience (Estelle can carry everyone if she needs to). How do the later Trails games handle things? DQXI was my first Dragon Quest game, but it was still very good and one of the best JRPGs I've played. From what I've heard from DQ fans, XI is generally considered one of the best. Xenoblade 2 is my favorite game ever, but I think DQXI is less flawed from a technical standpoint.
  11. One of the teachers in my high school dressed up as a FNAF character for Halloween once. It was a neat costume, though I was the only person in my class who recognized it. Octopath Traveler didn't really hook me like Xenoblade, Dragon Quest XI, and Trails did for a few reasons, but one of them is that you have to go to inns to switch out your party members and inactive party members don't gain experience, which is something I don't like in RPGs. Meanwhile, the chad Dragon Quest XI pays tribute to older RPGs while still having modern conveniences. Even Trails in the Sky felt less archaic despite being 14 years older. But FC doesn't let you customize your party until the final dungeon, so you don't have to worry about characters falling behind.
  12. Yesterday I got for myself what will be my greatest purchase of the year... Bloons Tower Defense 6, but also Trails in the Sky SC. It's nice that Estelle got to keep her level and crafts from the first game, and there's even an explanation as to why the party can't use their quartz from the first game. The prologue would probably be less difficult if Estelle had those fancy new arts from the beginning. In other news, it seems Cold Steel II's save transfer works even if Cold Steel I has been uninstalled, which is good. I also realized that downloading a new Bootcamp partisan with enough space to play Cold Steel I and II would result in deleting my Sky save data, which isn't good. Fortunately I found a solution: I can copy the save data onto the SD card I use for my Switch, then return it to my computer when it's done. I got the SD card and adapter as a bundle with my Switch, which was the only way I could get a Switch at the time, and it continues to be a good investment. I might screw something up along the way, but we'll get there when we get there.
  13. Now I have officially finished Trails in the Sky. Is this how you end a game? Is this where we go from here? The sequel better make up for this, I'm telling you right now, cause I'm stuck in nowhere land! They ran out of development time too, didn't they? Those dastards... (Paraphrased from Spike Spencer/Shinji Ikari's Evangelion ending rant) Although, I wasn't expecting the game to have a trailer for its sequel at the end. I hope the English speakers who got FC when it came out didn't mind the four year wait too much. At least SC apparently has a conclusive ending... hopefully. I'm having trouble deciding whether this or The Great Ace Attorney sequel-baited more. The least obtained achievement (besides the "get every achievement" achievement) was seeing every chest quote. There are a few other achievements I thought would be less common, like beating the final boss without using S-crafts or going into the final dungeon with a specific party.
  14. I just noticed that a Digimon retrospective video has been playing on my computer for an hour now. Maybe I'll watch it later. Oh no... I'll have to beat Lorence for max BP in the next game too, won't I? It was good. I brought Schera and Olivier for the first floor (I didn't know there was only one checkpoint at the time), then I went back and switched them for Tita and Agate for the second floor. I used Kloe and Zin for the latter half and the final boss. You can't fool me. I know Estelle will confess her feelings to Joshua, only for him to reveal that he's in love with Kloe instead. The next game will be about Cassius searching for a husband for Estelle to continue the Bright bloodline. Eventually Cassius will set his sights on Lloyd and Rean, and he'll be the final boss of Azure and Cold Steel IV. That aside, how many playable characters does Sky SC have? I don't want to know who joins, but I'd like to know what to look forward to. They're sixteen, go to jail. Was the worst line when Spider-Man said that math was better than magic?
  15. Today I beat the final boss of Estelle and Joshua's Bogus Journey. One can say the game really was a series of Trails into Reverie. I can't wait to appreciate my max Bracer rank- Oh... but at least I got the achievement for completing every sidequest. I think I spoke to every unique character during the ending sequence already, but I might look around more to make sure. That said, I'll take a break before seeing the actual ending. It's not like there can be anything game changing after the final boss, right?
  16. If I knew that I would've brought Agate and Tita with me for the first half, but maybe I could go back for them... SIEG! TAKE 'EM DOWN! If I were more persistent I might be able to win eventually, but I was getting annoyed and wanted to finish the game in a reasonable timeframe. Confuse does not work on giant robots, how am I supposed to defeat them without taking ten minutes? It's like the inexplicable battle with the giant penguin, except there are three of them at once. Well Cristina Vee is in Trails, and her character has purple hair even if she isn't half-genie. I think she would've done a good job as Edelgard but Tara Platt probably fits Edelgard's character better.
  17. I am on Trails in the Sky's final dungeon. People believe chests are blessings from the goddess, that they're necessary to maintain order in Liberl. But the people are wrong. Chests are to blame for this brutal, irrational world we live in. I'm talking about treasure chests, mind you, specifically ones filled with robots that take forever to defeat. I wonder when the next checkpoint is, since I want to use every party member at some point. Then again, the game also gates getting maximum BP behind beating Lorence, who does not deserve to share his name with Lorenz Hellman Gloucester, so Falcom is probably filled with sadists.
  18. It's a bit strange that the main conflict of Estelle and Joshua's Excellent Adventure doesn't become apparent until the end of the second to last chapter, but at least it ties together most of the game's seemingly unrelated conflicts. I assume I don't have much of the game left. I somehow got every Carnelia book, despite the fact that only a crazy person could do so without a guide (I used a guide). Will I get a Mew or unlock Luigi in Super Mario 64 for finding all of them? I'm glad the X parasites come back because it makes Dread feel like a proper sequel to Fusion, instead of being just another Metroid game with an unrelated conflict. The upgrade progression is also largely based on Fusion's (Missile upgrades stack rather than being separate, Plasma Beam before the Wave Beam), and it follows Fusion's trend of having more elaborate bosses than the rest of the series.
  19. K. Rool's support base was a lizard people conspiracy all along, I should have known. But anyway, Fei Fong Wong has joined the party, meaning I've met all of Sky's party members. Basically everything in this game presents Calvard as being fantasy-Asia, and I know Rixia is also from Calvard, but does this Asian theming carry over to Kuro? Besides Zin and Rixia also being in that game, at any rate. I also wonder if Mrs. Mao is related to Rixia in some way. Normally I would assume them having the same last name was a coincidence, but I can't be certain with this series. Not only do Trails games have spoilers for their predecessors, they also spoil games that won't be released for another three years.
  20. The overarching narrative is cool too, but can it compete with this smile? You know I could have mentioned Rixia instead, but I understand that mentioning her all the time is your thing now. Though you appear to prefer pairing Lloyd with Elie despite that. Falcom: We can't finish the game in time, let's release the rest of it later. Takahashi: We can't finish the game in time, let's have the characters describe the rest of the plot to the player while sitting in a dark room. Of course, Xenogears never got a second game, so this approach turned out to have been a good idea. If I recall correctly, it was the real murder that was almost Christmas. The Merry Christmas image was during the fake murder, when it actually was Christmas.
  21. I showed this image of Fighters Pass 2 to someone from from 2019, and this is what they said: "Of course this is fake. ARMS and Xenoblade 2 are DEAD and IRRELEVANT. Why would Nintendo give them characters?" Just wait until this theoretical 2019 person finds out who the last character of Fighters Pass 1 is! It's not sarcasm, the ellipsis are there to indicate that the spoiler tag contains the continuation of my thoughts. Chapter 2 also contained a play that lasted 20 minutes, which I don't know if it was necessary for the plot but it was still great. I'm not sure if it'll be better than Xenoblade 2 but... So is SC really twice as long as the first game? I know it has more text than The Lord of the Rings, but this is just silly. Falcom is really something, having me play a dozen hundred hour long games just so I can eventually see Kloe in an HD game.
  22. I got a Steam gift card as a present so I might get Trails in the Sky SC before the sale ends, even if I haven't finished the first game yet. But I finished Chapter 2, which hopefully means I'm more than halfway through. The ending of Chapter 2 was probably the best part of the game so far... Though Kloe will likely leave the party at the start of Chapter 3, making it the worst part of the game. While each chapter so far has had its own climax, if there is an overarching plot it probably has something to do with those guys in black. Red Cloud, also known as Agate, is on their tail already, but I wonder when Estelle and co. will focus on them. There was also a quest with Phantom Thief B who I assume is the Blueblanc fellow I've heard about. There's going to be a scavenger hunt quest in every game, isn't there?
  23. Sounds romantic enough. So is your partner selected randomly, or did you pick Rixia yourself? To be fair, that's because II and III were initially released on different consoles. I don't think my Bootcamp has enough storage to download all three Sky games, but maybe I can transfer between the first two and then uninstall the first to give me enough space for 3rd. I would need to reinstall Bootcamp with more storage if I want to play Cold Steel I and II, assuming my laptop could run those, but my laptop can run Minecraft so I might be fine. I would need an unreasonable amount of storage to get the transfer bonuses, unless Steam remembers what you did even with the games uninstalled. Every other Trails game will be available on the Switch so I don't have to worry about those.
  24. Were Lloyd and Rixia on a romantic theme park ride or something? If you spent an hour on it, you could've given her a break and have Lloyd go with someone else (or at least, I assume you can choose who he goes with). So basically, you did the same thing there that you do in this thread?
