  1. I hope there are some SRW games with Evangelion Mark.06 in them. It got shafted almost as much as Final Wars Hedorah. It goes deeper than we thought: those games are made by Falcom, Square, and Namco, and Tetsuya Takahashi worked at all three of those companies at some point (allegedly for Falcom at least). Perhaps the T-series is a companion to the Xeno games? We'll have to see if Nintendo will make a T-JRPG next. Though I think the Trails games were originally localized by Xseed, so Takahashi must have an agent working there too. Technically speaking, there was pachinko and some previous short films with suitmation, but they were never made widely available like the GvH short film will be, so this will be a good change of pace. "Mods within mods await you, Riku." -Ansem, Seeker of Darkness
  2. I wonder, whose idea was it to make different JRPGs named Trails, Trials (of Mana), and Tales? There must be some kind of developer conspiracy... In kaiju related news, a Godzilla vs. Hedorah short film will release next week. After 17 years, Final Wars Hedorah will finally get screentime. It's a miracle! It's nice to see that Godzilla and Hedorah's suits from Final Wars were kept in good enough condition to be used again. Shin Godzilla didn't use suitmation but hopefully it will live on through things like this.
  3. Pikmin is 20 years old today! Now I feel old, even though I never actually played the first Pikmin. I miss the days when video game commercials were works of art.
  4. Perhaps she should be playing Fire Emblem instead, evidently it fits her taste in video games. More towels in hot springs, more characters left unable to dry themselves. But you can't buy Million Arthur anymore, so no longer can she grace the games of new Neptunia players.
  5. I've heard that some hot springs allow swimsuits, or at least swimsuits specialized for such circumstances, but that might just be for modern mixed bathing (Trails has cars so it's modern enough for that). Then again, characters in video games tend to sleep fully clothed, so clothing etiquette generally isn't that important. It's a shame Xemnas didn't get a spirit in Ultimate, then he and Malos could've been indeed brothers. Somehow, I feel I should've expected that Yakuza has something like this.
  6. Indeed, then they can be fully clothed while they bathe just as the universe intended. Until science invents a way for people to wear steam, they could be wearing swimsuits instead.
  7. On today's episode of Lightchao finds random Trails pictures... Here we go again, why are they wearing towels in the hot spring? Now they'll all need another towel to dry themselves. That undermines the whole point of wearing a towel in the first place. Why would you do this Falcom? Grrrrr...
  8. 20 years ago, Kingdom Hearts was made because Shinji Hashimoto happened to meet a Disney executive in an elevator. This year, Sora got into Super Smash Bros. because Sakurai happened to meet a Disney representative at an awards show. "It's like poetry, they rhyme" -George Lucas He's in boys, he did it! He said it! Honestly I wasn't sure if this was real or an edit when I first saw it, but apparently Rixia having creepy fanboys is canon, thank you fan translation.
  9. Sakurai's second-to-last Famitsu column has been released, and it talks about Sora's inclusion. You can read the summaries here and here. Basically, the team always wanted to include Sora, but there were never plans to include him until Sakurai happened to meet a Disney representative at a game awards show. Where have I heard that before? Sakurai doesn't say what show it was, but the Japan Game Awards 2019 is a possible candidate since Ultimate and KHIII both won awards there (which happened September 12-15). Further negotiations with Disney and Square before and during development were predictably complicated, but they managed to add Sora anyhow. Fighters Pass 2 was originally supposed to have only five characters, but Sora was added at the last minute. This suggests that FP2 was largely finalized by the time Sora was put on the table. Additionally, since there's evidence that Sephiroth and Kazuya's positions were switched during development*, it seems Sephiroth was originally going to be the final character. Lastly, Sakurai reiterates that Sora was the most requested character on the ballot. Banjo & Kazooie also placed very high in the ballot, which surprised Sakurai, so we can contribute that to their inclusion. *In the data, Kazuya comes before Pyra and Mythra while Sephiroth comes after.
  10. As someone who grew up watching dubbed Godzilla movies, I'm surprised they made an effort to match the mouth movements. Live action dubs have come so far...
  11. Oh please, that joke wrote itself. If I were a real Trails fan I would've said Sora replaced Estelle, because Sora means "sky" and I'm pretty sure Estelle is from Trails in the Sky. And anyway, if I wanted to get into the series, the only games I'm capable of playing are Cold Steel III and IV (the only ones on the Switch), which I'm pretty sure I'm not supposed to start with. I'll just settle for talking about Rixia for now. I'm pretty sure it actually comes from "invader", like how Darth Sidious comes from "insidious". So it's like Yu-Gi-Oh Abridged, but unironic? Technically the actual Yu-Gi-Oh too, but the abridged series places a bigger emphasis on the "children's card game" thing. Just like how Persona 5 invented relationships, schools, and JRPGs... but I wonder, why did they call the first Persona game "Persona 5"?
  12. Hmm, it seems like Sora's codename is "trail". Clearly this means Rean was meant to be the final character, but was replaced by Sora at the last minute. Well I didn't mean it like that but... you're not wrong. I'm not quite sure how that works, but wide you say?
  13. I think those arguments would hold more water if SNK didn't have a character, and I think most would say Koei Tecmo is a bigger company than SNK. Not that Terry shouldn't have been added, mind you, but he is notably lesser known than the rest of the third party characters. Franchises being kinda dead hasn't stopped plenty of characters before, though those cases had noteworthy fan demand. And besides, would EA work with any Japanese company? Of course, it's not just that KT doesn't have a character, it doesn't have anything that isn't shared with another company. This is mostly in regard to how Ultimate has expanded Smash's scope, as Ubisoft has content, Bethesda has content, Arc System Works has content, Tetris has content, and plenty of indies have content. I'm mostly wondering why KT didn't even get any Mii costumes or Spirits of its own.
  14. The legend herself... though I'm not sure what's legendary about her, but a treasure chest talking about her must mean something, right? In my experience (as I played it a few weeks ago) Fusion has only one area that's easy to get lost in, you even have a computer telling you where to go most of the time. Did you at least fight Nightmare to understand true pain before you quit? She looks huggable, but she's only in one Cold Steel game? 0/10, no wonder Shrimpy doesn't like them. Speaking of, how many characters does Shrimpy's Bane get to romance? It doesn't seem like Rixia is an option, which makes sense because I'm sure everyone else would pale in comparison. There is no fourth arc, The Trials of Apollo is the last Greek series. Emphasis on "series" as Nico might get a standalone book to himself at some point. I have mixed feelings because while The Sea of Monsters tried to salvage the overarching plot that the first movie didn't establish, it also... didn't. At least the series will hopefully be good, and the The Kane Chronicles is getting a trilogy of movies as well (which Riordan is also involved with, so hopefully they'll also be good).
  15. The Echo Fighters are just roster filler so people won't complain about there being only six newcomers, which is the same reason Melee had clones. My main issue with Echoes is why Alph isn't one. They wouldn't even need to give him Rock Pikmin, just give him unique taunts and victory poses, then give him and Olimar four more colors, and you're done. Give him and Olimar their voices too, you can just reuse them from their games. As for why Richter got in, Sakurai pulled a lot from Richter when designing Simon's moveset and probably figured that he might as well add Richter too, since he's popular among Castlevania fans. We don't know if this came after the "Echo Fighter" designation was conceptualized, or if Richter inspired the idea like Lucina did in Smash 4. And if Snake were to get another costume in a future game, I would personally prefer his MGS1 outfit or Iroquois Pliskin.
  16. One Noctis is enough. Maybe Jack Garland can appear instead after mistaking Sora for Chaos. Nomura created him so he's fair game. Maybe, but getting Pixar content was apparently hard enough so who knows when it'll happen. Nomura won't make KHIV until they let him use Star Wars and Marvel characters, so it will take another 10 years to release.
  17. I can't wait to see who will appear as a secret boss in Kingdom Hearts IV. Think about it, Sora is in the Keyblade Graveyard when a blue portal appears, and out from it comes a large purple man with a golden gauntlet... But I think Julius is the only Disney secret boss, aside from the Ice Titan I suppose, so we'll probably just get another Final Fantasy Versus XIII character instead.
  18. They used a fan translation and it's still taking years to release? The localization really is cursed. Although, Persona actually sells well and it still has half a year between the Japanese and international releases, so I can forgive a small indie company like Falcom. When you're a Xenoblade fan and you get simultaneous international releases: So that's the, erm, "context" behind the chest who talks about Rixia's bobs. I'm not sure why anyone would care about Rixia showing pictures of people named Bob, least of all a treasure chest. These games truly have deep lore, no wonder there are so many of them.
  19. The official localization should keep this and the bobs comment when it releases in 20 years. ...But why is the treasure chest talking? Here we have both a Skyrim reference, and a mention of keyholes which are in Kingdom Hearts. We later get a Dragonborn costume in Super Smash Bros., then the final character is Sora. Coincidence?
  20. As another question, what power up did the first E.M.M.I. have? Each of the E.M.M.I. have a serial number based on the order you defeat them and what ability they give; the white one is E.M.M.I.-02SM because it's the second you fight and it gives the Spider Magnet, the next is E.M.M.I.-03MB, and so on. The damaged one is E.M.M.I.-01P, which doesn't give any indication about what abilities it had, if any. We learn from the Chozo Archives why it was damaged though:
  21. People act like Square does nothing with Xenogears even though they still make merchandise, include it in their mobile games, and still sell it. These uses aren't Nintendo-adjacent so Xenoblade fans tend not to notice. Meanwhile, Namco does nothing with Xenosaga outside of letting Monolith use KOS-MOS whenever they want. My look into the franchise this thread loves so much has led me to this: I'm not sure if I want to know the context. Still, we must show bobs:
  22. For some reason, I first read this as Sora being banned from tournaments before he was even released. I know he can cut through buildings but that would be silly. Toph is the game's Little Mac, of course she isn't broken.
  23. Hmm, I'm sure the Trails series doesn't have too many games to make sense of-- How many games is that again? How many games are part of the main plot? Why do they have different names? Which game has the cutest girls? So many questions... No I'm not playing any of them, this was a joke.
  24. Metroid Dread is finished with a time of 6:47:44 and 37% of items. I can't wait for the next mission to release in 19 years! But I'm wondering, what's up with the Chozo Archives? Are they tied to completion percentage like the Chozo Memories were? I got two of the ending images but none of the archives.
  25. Wearing towels inside a hot spring seems counterproductive. Aren't people supposed to use them to dry themselves afterwards? They might as well just go in fully clothed. (While I know it's to preserve the characters' modesty, they should be wearing swimsuits if anything.) I misread this as "No hemophilia" and wondered what they had against people whose blood can't clot properly.
