Congratulations. You are now an.....actually, i don't think there's any specific name for relatives of a cousin's children.

Oh no, the curse of Eva is spreading! Thank you, but actually I have a few cousins once removed already. It's getting a bit hard to keep track of how many there are at this point.

I plan to rewatch K:SI and KotM before I see GvK, but I realize that now GvK will be there on HBO Max, mocking me for not seeing it immediately, as I'm trying to watch its predecessors. I should be able so see it by Saturday at least.

(And though I obviously don't want to know any spoiler details, I would like to know beforehand if GvK has a post-credits scene... not that it really matters, since I can just rewatch it on HBO Max if I miss it in theaters.)

  2. My cousin had a baby today, so the group text with the rest of my cousins was just like the ending of Neon Genesis Evangelion

    Except there was no penguin.

So yeah, the first episode of Godzilla: Singular Point is finally up.

First episode was pretty much just establishing the protagonists, with only brief moments of Jet Jaguar, a (baby?) Rodan and a very quick tease of the big G.

I'll wait for the dub to come out, whenever that is. The anime trilogy didn't take too long to be released in English so it probably won't be too long of a wait. Waiting for the English release of the last Evangelion movie will certainly be longer in any case.

  3. How topical, considering that Big Chungus was added to Death Road to Canada recently as Elmer Fudd’s Stand. Maybe we’re in a Chungus renaissance?

I want to see Godzilla vs. Kong in theaters first, but I’ll be too busy to see it tomorrow. Hopefully I’ll find a theater that isn’t full when I’m free to see it.

Wait, is Evangelion canon to the monsterverse?

Not even remotely (nor are Gamera and Ultraman), I was using it as an example of how cinematic universes can be done poorly by including references without much subtlety to set up something for later.  I was mainly thinking of Batman v Superman and how it had teases for the rest of the Justice League without giving them their own movies, and I used other kaiju things for comparisons sake.

Plus, Eva being part of the MonsterVerse would mean we'd get a live-action Evangelion movie, which would destroy the universe.

  5. Having rewatched Godzilla 2014 the other day, I forgot just how long it takes for Godzilla to show up. The build up to when he actually does show up is great (build up is something G14 does well, since it's inspired by older horror movies like Jaws and Alien), and it's fun when he gets proper screentime. Contrary to popular opinion, I didn't mind the "skip the airport battle" thing too much since we get a proper fight later. Though the fact that Godzilla mostly doesn't factor into the humans' plan to defeat the MUTOs until the end makes G14 feel more like a disaster movie featuring Godzilla than a Godzilla movie (contrast KotM, where Godzilla is important to the plot even when he isn't onscreen). That isn't to say I don't like G14, it's still an enjoyable watch.

Thinking about it more, I appreciate that the MonsterVerse is one of the few times a "cinematic universe" was done properly, though the fact that it only revolves around two popular characters probably makes it easier develop. Can you imagine if KotM had teases for Gamera, Ultraman, and an Evangelion that were completely shoehorned in? Hmm, maybe it could work if it was executed well...

    PAC-MAN?!

Bro you can't just tell me there's Pac-Man in this game without context. I mean, i guess i'm not surprised considering there was a dungeon that was literally Tower of Duraga in the last game.

    They invited Pac-Man?!

    latest?cb=20180101004502

That cherry chasing dot muncher isn't even part of this series!

From what I've heard, the quest to get Pac-Man's card makes Ursula's quest look fast and easy. Good luck!

Relatedly, I don't know if you found it but the first game had a reference to KOS-MOS.

You have a Godzilla icon, so I had to claim Kong to restore balance to the universe. Otherwise their fight won't be fair!

But speaking of which, I had a GvK thought about "that guy" that I forgot to mention in my last prediction post.

    Spoiler

The opening of Godzilla 2014 featured the skeleton of another member of Godzilla's species alternatively known as Dagon or Raijin. I was wondering if this version of Mechagodzilla was constructed from this skeleton or another specimen as a throwback to Kiryu. Michael Dougherty (who wrote the plot and directed KotM) is a known Godzilla fan and Adam Wingard watched every Godzilla movie before directing GvK, so it wouldn't be too implausible as a reference, and it would give an in-story reason as to why Mechagodzilla is a copy of Godzilla. It would also make sense if Mechagodzilla is built to frame Godzilla for attacking cities, though I think the genuine Godzilla will get up to destruction too.

I also think Kong's spine-axe will be made during his trip to Hollow Earth rather than being made from one of Godzilla's spines, so a trove of bones there would provide another source of Mechagodzilla parts.

And they've officially revealed the Funko-Pop of that guy.

    Toys. The bringer of leaks.

They made a toy of the main villain of Guilty Gear? No, wait, he's "That Man", not "that guy".

I didn't know about the "King Kong" thing, but I suppose they can keep the spirit of my idea even if they don't actually call him King Kong. I assumed the unidentified city battle was also in Hong Kong, but we'll see what happens.

I don't think this has been shared here yet so here's a more detailed explanation on why Rex isn't playable in Smash. It seems Sakurai's original idea didn't include Mythra, so something good came out of the final result even if Rex was left out (and he's happy for them anyway).

Although, is it possible the absence of Kossy in Smash is because Monolith has declared the firelight duo the new future "crossover-into-everything" characters.

They're just following in their big half-sister's footsteps of being more promoted than the main character of their game.

Since I promised it earlier, here are my updated Godzilla vs. Kong predictions. It shouldn't include any details that weren't in the the trailer (though it does mention "that guy" who technically does appear in the trailer).

    Spoiler

During my previous predictions we barely knew anything about the plot, but now we know the premise: Godzilla is attacking humans for some reason and we'll also explore Hollow Earth. Also, we know pretty definitively that Mechagodzilla is in. This image suggests that Godzilla is attacking APEX facilities in particular, so it's reasonable to assume that APEX created Mechagodzilla (whether or not Godzilla is attacking APEX because of Mechagodzilla is unclear). Was Mechagodzilla made to kill Titans, or to serve as an artificial alpha to control them? At the very least it seems Mechagodzilla is attacking cities for some reason. At this point I don't think Rodan or Mothra will be included because it's not worth getting the license to them just to give them minor roles (presumably Mothra will still be in her egg and Rodan will be chilling in a volcano somewhere), though the other Titans should be fair game to show up.

Adam Wingard said in an interview that there will be a definitive winner this time because the original King Kong vs. Godzilla didn't have one. While Kong has underdog-bias on his side, it might be more unexpected for Godzilla to win if Kong is unable to overcome him (also, Kong technically won last time). Regardless of whoever the overall winner is, I think Godzilla will win the aircraft carrier battle. I don't expect either of them to die because it wouldn't be a good idea to lock yourself out of using famous and marketable characters (also I'd be pretty bummed if either of them died).

Despite that, my prediction for the ending stays largely the same. Once the final battle is over, Mechagodzilla intervenes in an attempt to kill them both (thinking about it, MG would have to be pretty powerful to be a threat to them both). G and K team up to take him down, but Godzilla is severely wounded (regardless of whether or not he won against Kong). Godzilla leaves to go into hibernation to recover and passes the torch of "King of the Monsters" to Kong in the meantime, giving the later the title "King Kong". The post-credits scene can have Alan Jonah collecting Mechagodzilla's remains to tease Mecha-King Ghidorah or something like that.

At least she actually starred in a game, which is more than we can say about Waluigi.

I think saying that Daisy “starred” in Super Mario Land is a bit generous, don’t you think? Unless you’re talking about Super Mario Run...

And Godzilla vs. Kong is officially only two weeks away, hooray! Maybe I’ll share revised predictions later.

  11. If Armagon is Godzilla, do I get to be Mothra? Or Rodan, whatever fits.

Fuck, i know who i should've used for my "why forces of nature villains are good" part

    latest.png?width=611&height=432

I used King Ghidorah as the example out of Kaiju bias but Grima also fits that bill and he actually talks.

King Ghidorah never dressed as a waifu werewolf for Halloween, so you can’t quite compare him to Grima yet.

I know the Switch is getting older and Sakurai is eternally brought the verge of metaphoric organ failure by the toil imposed on him by Smash, but is there any realistic chance of a Fighter Pass 3? Perhaps on a smaller scale? -Not saying I want it, I don't as a non-owner of Smash U, just pondering.

Sakurai said during the Pyra/Mythra presentation (and the subsequent Famitsu column) that there are only two characters left, so probably not since he would know by now if there's going to be more.

  13. 10 hours ago, Armagon said:

It's for this same reason that i don't think we'll get King Ghidorah but King Ghidorah is also too iconic so we'll see.

    • Then again, Ghidorah was the hero once. They could go the GMK route again.

Since Godzilla is being promoted as the big bad monster corrupting everything, either there's a twist where "King Ghidorah is really behind everything" or (more likely) he'll get a tease at the end of the last episode and he'll be saved for a future season. King Ghidorah was only a good guy in GMK because Anguirus and Varan weren't marketable enough, and since he's best known as Godzilla's nemesis I don't think we'll get a heroic Ghidorah again. Speaking of, I'm glad that Singular Point is giving lesser known monsters some attention.

If/when Ghidorah does show up in SP, I wouldn't mind if they went really out-there with his concept. The MonsterVerse has the peak "traditional" Ghidorah so it'd be interesting for something new next time.

On the topic of Smash, one thing I realized is that Pyra and Mythra dodged a bullet by not being the last character. The last character will inevitably get flak for not being *insert popular request here* no matter who they are, so I'm glad they avoided that baggage. I considered beforehand that XC2 might be saved for the last character if it got one (like Byleth), but Pyra and Mythra were announced now so that wasn't an issue.

Looking real good. And I'm seeing even more obscure Kaiju that haven't really been featured outside of their debut films.

The OP bangs based on the sample in the trailer.

But I will say that Godzilla Ultima (the official name they've given this incarnation) is probably the weirdest Godzilla design we've had, which is saying a lot considering we live in a post-Shin Godzilla world.

    @Lightchao42 thoughts?

It's nice to see more returning monsters, and I like the more "out-there" monster designs since they aren't constrained by live action.

Besides Manda and Hedorah being confirmed, there seems to be various Kamacuras/Kumonga/Gigan/Megalon looking insects. Could there be some fusion/mutation going on? It's also worth noting that all the kaiju so far appear to be from the Showa era.

I definitely don't see the Arthur nor Sophia Spirits are in the game as of right now yet.

You need to have data for Persona 5 Strikers and Ghosts 'n Goblins Resurrection to get those spirits at the moment, but they'll be available for everyone else later.

Since Challenger Pack 10 and 11 are the only two remaining spots left as of right now. Does anyone think we could might see Challenger Pack 10 somewhere shows announced at late April or maybe May and Challenger Pack 11 be at the announcement for E3 2021 or we pretty might see Challenger Pack 10 at E3 2021 announcement and Challenger Pack 11 be somewhere at after E3 2021 is over in a couple more months later?

I'd guess that CP10 would be released in June around E3 time, but I don't think E3 is happening this year so they could be announced earlier. Generally there's only been a gap of two to three months between DLC characters, so I expect the last character to be released in September at latest. There are only two characters left so I don't think we'll get both of them announced at once.

Yeah, that's something I didn't fully get: Why's she not an echo? There's a fair bit of move overlap, though definitely less so than some of the echos we do have in fairness.

The official reason is that her proportions are too different from Villager's, but I think the actual reason is that she's too marketable to "just" be an echo. I doubt many people would've complained if she was an echo in any case.

    17 minutes ago, Armagon said:

    Even though it's dubbed.

Since I assume you watched the Japanese versions... did you ever see the scenes where Godzilla and Anguirus talk?

  17. It's a shame that Steve can't mine Core Crystals out of Azurda (that's not a sentence I thought I would ever say) and use one to summon KOS-MOS, and here I thought Sakurai had an attention to detail.

Incineroar is a wrestler, which is something that makes it unique at least. Isabelle is just half Villager and half leftover ideas that Villager didn't use, so her moveset doesn't feel like it belongs to her. She would be more interesting if they leaned more into her attacking opponents accidentally by being clumsy or careless.

Yeah, I should have combined run speed and air speed, since both are essential.

I can say that she isnt as fast as Roy, air speed included.

    44 minutes ago, Armagon said:

Mythra's air speed is still good tho.

    She's probably close tho.

Mythra has the fifth fastest dash speed (behind Sonic, Captain Falcon, Little Mac, and Sheik) and the eleventh fastest air speed. Conversely, Pyra has the sixth slowest dash speed (ahead of Mii Gunner, Ganondorf, Jigglypuff, Robin, and Incineroar), while her air speed is tied with Joker's for 37th place.

Both of them are middleweights, though Mythra is slightly lighter. The jury's still out on if Pyra is heavier than Tora though.

Tfw you watch a trailer new XB2 expansion with new Story and gameplay, with a focus on Brighid and someone else as MC and it all taking place before TtGC...

Tfw you react online, XB fanbase in huge cheer, get ready to download it and then...

You wake up from your nap

If it makes you feel better, Pyra and Mythra being in Smash is basically a Xenoblade 2 expansion.

    Wot?

Poppi's menu has a section for using ether crystals to create parts for her. You can also sell parts you don't need to get more crystals. The item needed for making Tank Mod III (Artificial Blade Report) can be found at a location visited at the end of Chapter 4.

On the bright side, you might have done enough grinding to make Poppi ridiculously powerful.

  20. 24 minutes ago, Benice said:

You know, I wish you got a currency from playing Tiger! Tiger! (Poppi Points?) and used those to buy the parts rather than replay it with the chance to get it.

Heck, or have both to remove frustration for people with bad luck.

Actually you can do that, though you might not be able to make a Tank Mod III yet at the point in the game you're at.

  21. Spoiler

    71pgkn6s14l61.png

Extensive scientific research shows that this is the last image the human brain creates at the point of death. Could this be God herself?

(I was expecting this to just be a polished version of the concept art, but this is brand new! What a pleasant surprise.)

The update also sneakily added two non-Xenoblade spirits: Sophia from Persona 5 Strikers and Arthur from Ghosts 'n Goblins. They're available early if you get their games but will be released for everyone else later (like Partner Pikachu and Eevee way back during launch, and the Tockles for Dragon Quest XI).
