Nevertheless, knowing my tastes and preferences, somehow I feel I won't be quite so thrilled about Gigachad Rex and his harem shenanigans as you all. Armagon once described XC2 as a "boy meets girl" story, and well, I like romance best when it's not the focus.

Eh, Rex and Pyra/Mythra's relationship is pretty important but it being romantic isn't emphasized much, if that makes sense. Heck, there's barely any handholding.

I would like to say you're wrong about the harem shenanigans, but I will say that it's only in the next game.

he appears to get blown up early in the game, but he inexplicably appears alive later. His mustache must make him invincible.

I mean, I'm not sure if you're in a position to remind people to finish things.

  2. No way... I can't believe Link will be voiced by Chris Pratt in Tears of the Kingdom (not really).

I think I reached one of the Leonardo DiCaprio pointing places in Future Redeemed. I'm already midway through Chapter 3, somehow.

Character note my beloved... There's no time for giving out student notebooks (again), I must talk to everyone first. A brief comment about the plot:

    Spoiler

It looks like Osborne vs. Ouroboros will be a main conflict of this game, and since I doubt Rean will fight Osborne directly yet, the society will probably be a recurring threat for most of the plot (hopefully). It would be a change of pace from them being supporting villains for the past few games.

  3. I can't believe all of Armagon and Shrimpy's posts are just spoiler tags now.

How long is Future Redeemed? I'm less than three hours in and I'm basically at the end of the second chapter (out of five or six, I'm guessing). I imagine the chapters will be longer once every character joins, and there will probably me mandatory sidequests like in Torna.

I knew Rean would be a teacher at Thors' branch campus in this game, so I was wondering why it wasn't mentioned in the previous two games. It turned out to be because it didn't exist yet. The developers thought of everything!

I was also wondering why this new school had only four teachers, but it turns out there are only twenty students. Veyle... I mean Towa is Rean's coworker, and even Randy is here, it feels like I last saw him just yesterday. Though I don't remember Towa's hips being so wide...

If I hadn't already met Juna in Azure, I probably would've made a joke about her being Lloyd and Noel's daughter from the future. I knew beforehand that Kurt was Mueller's younger brother, which I thought was odd because he doesn't look much like the other Vanders, but apparently that's the point. Any relation to Vander from Engage is currently unverified, however.

  4. 9ReqfjO.jpg

    The teehee begins...

I can see now why Duvalie is head of the Stahlritter, she needs to babysit the other two members.

Also, I started Future Redeemed. When is A being added to Super Smash Bros.? FR is probably pretty short, so playing it alongside something else shouldn't be too troublesome. It should be shorter than Trails to Azure's final dungeon, at least.

  5. Trails to Azure has the final boss of all time. Some general thoughts on the ending:

    Spoiler

Grimwood was fine as a villain, I suppose, but I think he should've been built up as an accomplice rather than the mastermind to end all masterminds. As is he's convinced to stop his plan almost immediately and is promptly betrayed by Mariabell, makes you wonder why he bothered showing up.

The stuff with KeA and Guy was good. When I started this game, "Lloyd defends Cecile's honor from her dead fiancé" wasn't something I was expecting to see. The whole thing about "Zero's in medias res was an alternate timeline where everyone died" was unexpected, but it tied into KeA's motives so it made sense to reveal it now. Though her pseudo-omnipotence makes me wonder when exactly she remembered that she made an alternate timeline... Wait, was Cold Steel's in medias res an alternate timeline too?

Everyone gets a happy ending, except not because Erebonia takes over. Additionally Mariabell rather casually reveals that she's joining Ouroboros as an Anguis, Weissmann is rolling in his grave. She's the first person to join Ouroboros during the series, which is an idea I was interested in seeing, and it makes sense for the new Third Anguis to be the main villain of this game. She doesn't explain what exactly her plan was, so she fits the crypticness job requirement. Now I know the identities of four out of seven Anguis, which I wasn't expecting for this point in the series.

I rewatched Cold Steel II's Divertissement to figure out what I was supposed to be spoiled by. It was nice of Lloyd to remember how Rixia saved his life twice within 20 minutes of joining.

The game was pretty good, and after seven months the Crossbell arc has been conquered. Wait, that means I can't use Rixia again until Reverie...

I think it comes down to people expecting a big lore event that both Xenoblade 1 and 2 had. Cause the connections are there, it's just a lot more subtle.

Like i get why they'd be upset that's not there but at the same time, it kinda became a "judge the game for what it isn't" situation. Which is kinda annoying.

It's true that I enjoy big infodumps, but XC3 doesn't have much payoff to a few of the mysteries. They never explain what off-seeing actually is, what Riku's... anything is, why [REDACTED] is queen somehow... Future Redeemed might explain some of those, but DLC shouldn't be necessary to understand the base game to begin with. Torna enhances XC2's main game, but it isn't necessary to understand anything about the plot.

4 minutes ago, Shrimpy -Limited Edition- said:

The big issue i have is Moebius/Z, and FR just reminded me how much i hate them.

I don't mind Moebius in theory. I like anime evil organizations, hence why I am an Ouroboros apologist, which is mostly predicated on their members have varied appearances, personalities, and abilities. Moebius being samey is apparently the point, but that doesn't make them individually interesting. If they all had different colors like the Testaments, they would be better.

    As for Z

    Spoiler

him being a Persona final boss is fine, I suppose, but him admitting to making the world horrible for no reason doesn't really fit him being a manifestation of humanity's fear. Is everyone like Griss and they want to live in eternal torture? Maybe he decided to torture everyone because he got sick of being humanity's babysitter or something. If he wasn't such a jerk, the endless now might not have been too bad.

  7. J5h7DUC.jpg

I can't believe this is the last chest message in the whole series.

Anyway, the final barrier has been gotten over and we've tied up most of the remaining mysteries. Right now I'll revisit Crossbell for some last minute NPC talks and do some preparations for the final boss, then I'll finish the game tomorrow. After that I'll probably start Cold Steel III... I mean, Future Redeemed. Or both?

    5 hours ago, Armagon said:

Takahashi did say way back that it was a thematic sequel. People just let their theories run wild.

Maybe FR will change my mind, but I don't think XC3 was entirely satisfying as a standalone game or as a sequel. It isn't 99% standalone like XC2 was but none of the connections to previous games are very important.

    Spoiler

In particular on the "theories run wild" thing, they shouldn't have shown the queens before release, much less in the first trailer. It would've been more effective if we didn't know they were "Melia" and "Nia" until we met them in-game. Them being robots was also kind of a copout, but that's a different discussion.

  12. I am now old enough to post this:

    Bo2YkdW.jpg

If I had a nickel for every final bonding event achievement name that was a pun on "more than a feeling", I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice.

    Spoiler

In the interests of time, I only viewed Elie's, Wazy's and Rixia's events so far. It was nice hearing Wazy and Rixia's full backstories and Elie's was cute. Plus, it would be weird if KeA's parents weren't a couple. Now I just need to find a way to get Randy and Mireille together...

Wazy says he is "a vessel for one of the 12 Stigmas". It seems like there are twelve unique Stigmas, maybe they jump to a new host whenever their previous user dies? It would explain why Kevin got the position of Fifth Dominion specifically, if each Stigma corresponds to each number.

Something I enjoy about Trails are the scenes where all the allies you've made join forces to fight the villains. That happens here with Kevin and co., the CGF, CPD, Heiyue, the bracers, Lechter and Kilika, and even the Brights make a return to help out just as I was thinking they wouldn't be in this game. RIP Pater-Mater, the true hero of the series.

Resolving another mystery from the last game, the names on the faded grave are identified. Since the last name seemed to end in "-es" I assumed they might be a relative of Cecile's, but the grave turned out to belong to Grimwood's wife and children instead. Of course, there's a reason the game waited so long to reveal who the grave belonged to...

Back when Misty first mentioned Orchis Tower in Cold Steel, I assumed it would be Azure's final dungeon. I was wrong, though it did turn out to be the second-to-last dungeon. I should've known they would build a supervillain layer in there...

As for more reveals, Arios is most likely innocent of killing Guy, and my initial impression of Dieter (him using the Sept-Terrion as a means to an end for his goals, rather than being a crazy cultist like Mariabell) was correct. Dieter turns out to not be the main villain and we find out the true true mastermind behind everything. There's not much indication there is a true true mastermind until Lechter and Kilika bring up the idea (in hindsight, Sigmund mentioned that Dieter was working with "that other gentleman" who I assumed at the time to be Wald). I probably should've expected that the true villain was an unassuming side character (my eyes were just on the wrong unassuming side characters), but they hid Grimwood's full backstory until you're expected to figure it out.

Remember me, Lloyd? When I killed your brother I talked just... like... THIS!

Although Mariabell is busy with her evil plan, it's nice of her to take the time to play Pom Pom Party with Lloyd whenever he asks her to.

Completing sidequests gives you experience points, so they're worth doing if you feel like you're underleveled.

All those generic monster hunting quests might not seem like they're worth doing, but you get the rewards automatically for completing them (i.e. you don't need to report back to the quest giver), so it's worthwhile to accept all of them and defeat the targets as you travel around since they're marked on the map.

... How do you misspelled Kali as Curly!?

They must be a fan of the Three Stooges, clearly. Otherwise they would've misspelled it as "Kary" like Final Fantasy did.

  13. Having cleared Stargazer's Tower in the final chapter, Trails to Azure should almost be finished...

    Spoiler

Though they didn't get portraits like Duvalie did, it was cool fighting the other two members of the Stahlritter. It turns out Fiora was wrong, some girls don't mind being called stout. Duvalie gets to showcase her... unique personality despite her limited screentime (and she still gets bullied, as usual).

Arianrhod is yet another boss you're not supposed to win against, but in a variation you need to get her HP to half to progress the plot. That doesn't mean she's easier to fight than Sigmund and Arios, since she can use her S-craft to wipe out your party whenever she wants. Apparently she gets even stronger when her mask breaks, but I didn't get to see it for myself since she used her S-craft immediately after. I'm interested in seeing a strategy against her that doesn't involve Zero Field...

Arianrhod is unmasked to reveal that oh no, she's hot! Even if you don't win, she basically says "you did well enough, good luck rescuing KeA" and peaces out. It's indicated that Ouroboros's business in Crossbell was basically finished when the Sept-Terrion of Zero awakened, so I wonder how it factors into what's happening in Erebonia...

Elie seems to have an idea as to who Arianrhod is (presumably Lianne Sandlot), but she never discloses her suspicions as of now. Clearly Arianrhod is Elie's mother, we don't know what she looks like so it can't be disproven.

Now I can view the final bonding events, since I probably met the conditions with everyone.

  14. 17 hours ago, Acacia Sgt said:

Well, for the subject of my fanfic, as I mentioned, I was looking up regarding Elusia's events shortly before the start of the game.

Looking up has yield me that:

Hortensia, and by association Rosado and Golmary, were at the Academy when Sombron was already at Elusia Castle, as it was after that that King Hyacinth called Hortensia back to the castle.

But the thing I was trying to look up specifically was in regards to Ivy. In her own words, Hortensia had catch up to her at the Academy. But then unlike Hortensia who still talks about needing to finish her education, hence wanting to get Lindon to teach her while the events of the game are happening, there's no word regarding Ivy needing the same. So when she said Hortensia had catch up, did it meant only in certain classes and Ivy had by now fully graduated, or not? Though, I suppose it could be the case. There's no specifics as to how Hyacinth handled appointing retainers to his daughters, but considering Ivy already had Zelkov for some unspecified time already (Kagetsu is more recent, considering he can celebrate the anniversary during the events of the game), then unless he had to follow her to the Academy, I would think the appointment was made after Ivy graduated. Hortensia still not having retainers in an official capacity (as Rosado and Goldmary just followed her for not wanting to separate from her) while still attending the Academy could imply this too.

But well, it's fine if I have to tweak or make up things for my fanfic to work the way I want it to go, but still...

If your primary question is whether or not Ivy graduated the Academy already, I'm guessing she did if you want a second opinion.

Like Shrimpy said, Nintendo Dream's readership consists mostly of women, so Fogado being male would presumably benefit him in this case (especially since the other male royals all made up the top four). This isn't FEH, after all.

  15. Campanella is the funniest battle in this game. Fighting him was worth the four game wait.

At this rate I'll probably be at the final dungeon by the time Future Redeemed releases, and it doesn't really matter if I'm not. It wouldn't be the first time I played a Xenoblade and Trails game at the same time, this truly is the endless now.

I'd say, trying to find the defined timeline of events in Engage can certainly be a bit hard. Like, I'm trying to look up what happened over at Elusia before the game began, for TDatP, and while there's certainly stuff, it's still not enough to piece a full sequence of events.

I'm not sure if Engage has enough significant past events to warrant a timeline. Though if you're looking for something specific, I might be able to offer my thoughts on the matter.

  17. Future Redeemed

    Spoiler

On closer examination, it seems Nikol's hair and eye color (orange-blond and blue-green) are between Shulk and Fiora's. So yes, he's probably their son.

If Alvis apparently wants to destroy everything, it makes sense that Z would oppose him since maintaining the endless now is his whole thing. Making Z an ally of circumstance to the heroes would be an interesting direction to take his character in.

    18 hours ago, Armagon said:

What's curious is that Alvis is namedropped in the trailer but his art has him as "?", suggesting the "Alvis" we see isn't Alvis actually. He does look a lot more emotionless too.

Glimmer is also flat out Rex and Pyra's daughter. Her design takes elements from Pyra's beta design, which i think is neat.

Unless "Alvis" is something else impersonating Alvis or it's another robot, it's possible they're making a distinction between Alvis and Ontos. In that case he would be Alvis, but not as we know him.

If Glimmer is Rex and Pyra's daughter, that means Matthew is technically her great-grandnephew. The picture was a mistake.

    Spoiler

More Trinity Processor lore? I have been waiting... waiting for this day!

Our six characters are Matthew (maybe N's great-grandson?), A (Alvis's "daughter"? Seventh founder?), Nikol, Glimmer, Rex, and Shulk. I was expecting the two mystery founders to be playable, but it appears we won't see them. The last founder is called Na'el (maybe Matthew's sister), who appears to not be playable.

Glimmer is probably Pyra's daughter and she inherited Pneuma's hairstyle, all is right in the world, while Nikol may or may not be related to Shulk.

    Behold the true chad king

    img_secret-02.png

Oddly Z appears to be on Shulk and Rex's side? Hmm...

Additionally, Pyra and Mythra's amiibo will release in July (and give Noah their respective swords), while Noah and Mio are getting amiibo at some point in the future.

  19. Continuing Trails to Azure's finale

    Spoiler

Rixia's been in the party for 20 minutes and she already saved Lloyd's life twice. The SSS really should've recruited her earlier (though that would necessitate knowing she's Yin).

They seemed to have gotten the short end of the stick. When you think about it, the Solm chapters don't really focus a whole lot on them, unlike with the other royals. Heck, you have the whole Hortensia thing happening in Solm itself, so it robs a little to Solm's own focus.

I can't believe Timerra's relevance peaks during her introduction scene. Though if relevance to the plot mattered that much, Alear and Veyle would be the only characters on the poll.

  20. When the Mario movie has a Pikmin reference for two seconds

    leo-pointing.jpg

My sister couldn't tell that Mario was voiced by Chris Pratt, so I think that means he did a good job.

Also, I have started Trails to Azure's final chapter.

    Spoiler

Surprisingly enough, Garcia returns and helps Lloyd escape from prison. Getting to use unexpected characters is fun.

Now we've caught up to Cold Steel II... maybe, Lloyd was imprisoned for a few weeks so it's hard to tell if Rean is still unconscious. There are a few new plot points established:

Zeit is a Holy Beast: technically not a twist since it was established in chapter 1 of Zero, but what that means isn't explored until now. In fact, he even has a book about him. Are there any works of fiction in Zemuria? He gets along well with Cecile, so maybe she's descended from St. Ursula.

KeA is an artificial Sept-Terrion created to replace Demiourgos, which erased itself from existence in the past: previously I thought she was either a vessel for D or D somehow incarnated as a human, rather than an entirely new Sept-Terrion. I wonder if Demiourgos will return somehow...

Wazy is the Ninth Dominion, the Sapphire Testament: any relation to Xenosaga is currently unverified, however. I was wondering if he had a Stigma back when he fought Wald earlier. Additionally we learn Kevin's new title, the Thousand-Hand Guardian.

It seems the first part of the finale will involve reassembling the party. Even Zeit becomes playable, since his non-interference policy expired when Demiourgos disappeared. So that means Rixia will hopefully join soon, though Dudley probably won't join until we return to Crossbell City.

  21. The ending of Trails to Azure's fourth chapter proves that Trails and Xeno are the same series. Does Takahashi have writing credit?

    Spoiler

If I had a nickel for every JRPG with a mecha called Aion that's powered by a divine artifact, I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice. I intended to make this joke back when I played Cold Steel II, and it turned out to be more apt than I expected at the time. Though one of them looks more like Xenogears than Artifice Aion.

The only previous mention of the Sept-Terrions within the last two games was an offhand comment by Joshua, but now Mariabell appears in full supervillain getup to explain how one of them was passed down her family for generations. It turns out the DG cult was more or less created by the Crois family, which I didn't expect. I thought Dieter would be primarily motivated by Crossbell's independence and he would use the Sept-Terrion to accomplish that, but it turns out he's a crazy cultist. He and Mariabell being evil and crazy all along makes their previous friendliness unnerving in hindsight. I hope Bleublanc knows just who he was stealing from.

KeA reveals her true identity, KOS-MOS! I mean, the Sept-Terrion of Mirage... I mean, the Sept-Terrion of Zero... I'm sure it'll be explained eventually. There are still two missing data entries after all.

Of course there is a mostly-unwinnable fight with Arios, I'm getting rather tired of those. I wasn't expecting him to take an antagonistic role, even as a "I must use dark power to resurrect my wife" kind of villain.

I was thinking between games that "Guy's killer" and "whoever brought KeA to the auction" were the same person, and it seems that was correct (unless Arios just blames himself for Guy's death and didn't actually kill him). I previously thought Cecile was a suspect and that she was secretly an Enforcer (for some reason), but I dismissed that thought by the intermission. I owe her an apology. My prediction back at the end of Zero that Ouroboros was behind both those things was also wrong, which I expected at this point due to their downplayed role in this game.

I expect the finale chapter will involve the party revisiting the three temples a la the Tetracyclic Towers in SC, maybe fighting an Ouroboros member each time. Only then will Rixia join the party...

I'm guessing it will have Detective Pikachu invite Mario to the Super Smash Brothers initiative.

  22. I will finish chapter 4 of Trails to Azure tomorrow, we're reaching levels of wild ride that shouldn't even be possible!

The new Tears of the Kingdom trailer was the most exciting one since the game was announced, I'm not sure if I'll get it at launch but I'll get it eventually. It's good to see Ganondorf again, it's been 17 years since his last mainline appearance. For reference, that's roughly the time between The Wind Waker and the original Zelda.

    Ganonchrom

I will see The Super Mario Bros. Movie in a few days and I hear it has a post-credits scene. Is it anything important or just a joke? I'm asking because my family will be annoyed if I make them stay for the entire credits.

  23. Midway through chapter 4 of Trails to Azure, the ride does not slow down. It's a wild ride, this passage of fate.

    Spoiler

Just as abrupt out-of-universe as it is in-universe, Mayor Crois is now President Crois of the Independent State of Crossbell, and Arios is his secretary of defense. Given his increasingly fishy behavior, it makes me wonder if Dieter has some dirt on him. Dieter is acting pretty fishy too, I wonder if he's being manipulated somehow... probably not directly by Ouroboros, since Arianrhod (who I can call by her name now) seems to be taking a hands-off approach. KeA is also acting pretty fishy, maybe it has something to do with her conversation with Mariabell at the end of the intermission...

Despite what Dieter said, I'm not fully convinced Erebonia was behind the Red Constellation's attack, maybe because it seems like the obvious answer. Not that I can guess who they're working for, but whoever it is is presumably the main villain. They stole the bell that was in Central Plaza, which is probably significant given all the weird things bells do in Crossbell.

Per Cold Steel, the declaration of independence happens on October 21st, and [REDACTED] happens on October 24th. What will happen between then?

Lastly, Wazy and Noel have both left the party. I wasn't sure if Noel would actually end up leaving (but she'll probably return sooner or later), and Wazy being gone is likely related to Dieter somehow (because Wazy joined the SSS on his recommendation, remember?). I was wondering if Rixia would end up joining to take Noel's place, but I doubt that'll happen until next chapter at least since she's hiding out at the Ancient Battlefield.

    Clearly he's blond...

This is a Japanese game, so its hair could be any color of the rainbow.

this is probably my favorite final battle in the series.

It looks like you didn't get the Hylian Shield. Did you not feel like going through the Lightning Round for it?

Also, if BotW is the last game in your Zelda marathon, I'm interested in seeing what the final ranking turns out to be. Maybe BotW aged poorly and will be below Adventure of Link.

Actually, I don't recall if you played Tri Force Heroes. It is canon (for some reason), but I would understand if you skipped it.

Now that I actually know what Testa-Rossa means, I wonder why the Erebonians named a demon "redhead"...

Thanks for the offer! We do get a lil' free time to spend in Rockefeller Centre, Central Park, and Times Square, but that's about it.

Nintendo New York is right there.😉

You should take a picture with Bowser if you go there (assuming the line to get in isn't too long).

    Good adaptation this time around?

It'll take seven years to make. It won't happen, but they should cast Adam Driver as Snape.
