  1. I've heard it was one of the better Tales games. I may end up giving it another go at some point when I'm less burnt out.
  2. I'm not sure it would remain recognizable as a Fire Emblem game, but here goes: Lower the movement of units across the board, whilst also giving every unit 'super canto,' or the ability to move again after any action, including attacking, as mounted units are able to in Path of Radiance. The idea here is that you would be able to 'kite' with ranged units, or employ hit-and-run tactics. For example, if the base movement was 3, you could have an archer 3 tiles away take one step forward, attack, and then retreat 1 or 2 steps back to safety. You would be able to do something similar with squishy melee units as well. Take your low durability swordmaster, have him run up, hack away, then retreat back to safety. It would make units with low durability but great offense viable in long duration battles. High durability, low offensive power units would similarly benefit from the system, as they could frontline for your damage dealers without ever needing to do a tremendous amount of damage themselves. Currently, if the unit can't take damage or dish it out, it's not considered a particularly good combat unit. This system would allow for unit specialization beyond things like flier utility.
  3. WOW! This idea is so cool! That would be a really mature way of tying the standard bandit chapters into the overall plot, as the bandit subplots are usually goofy and not related to the main storyline. I can't understate how interesting this idea sounds. I'd love to see you implement this in a ROM-hack, or story of some kind. Something I would love to see in Fire Emblem is a re-imagining of the Knight class. Knights in Fire Emblem are awful, both in design and in gameplay merit. The Fire Emblem wiki refers to Awakening Knights appearing similar to "cauldrons," as in cooking pots. Cooking pots! That's not at all what a knight looked like. In fact, knights in the late-medieval/renaissance era were very slender. Take a look: Nice waist. Now I understand that knights were typically mounted, and that Cavaliers/Paladins are analogous to real knights, while Knights are analogous to cooking pots (lol). But knights fought dismounted as well. As I understand it, dismounted knights wielding poleaxes were a staple in the late-medieval era. Really, the Knight should be my favorite class. I love knights. But Fire Emblem Knights are exceptionally different, and as I understand it, not all that popular. So I would love to see them change to something more in line with knights of the late-medieval era.
  4. Chrom is the Fire Emblem character who has grown on me the most. Now I'm cheating here a bit, as Chrom has always been a favored character of mine. However, even though I liked Chrom as a character, I have come to like him more and more as I grow, to the point where he may be my favorite character in the series (I like Marth quite a bit, but that's mostly due to Smash Bros.). One of Chrom's distinguishing characteristics is his willingness to do good, without being foolish. Mild spoilers ahead. Chrom knows the risks of doing good, and chooses to do good anyways. There are many things I like about his character, but as the years go by, his selflessness has grown on me the most.
  5. The most disappointing game I've played recently was Tales of Xillia. I was a huge Tales fan ever since I played Tales of Symphonia on the Gamecube. I went out of my way to play every Tales game I could get my hands on, even a spin-off game on the PSP (would not recommend that one!). I didn't own an Xbox, and the Tales of Symphonia 'sequel' was somewhat disappointing, so there ended up being a huge drought of Tales games to play after Abyss. When Namco decided against localizing Tales of Graces, I was devastated. I remember doodling the main character and watching combo videos from the game waiting for it's localization announcement that never came. At that point, I sort of gave up on the series. A handful of years later, they re-released and localized the game on PS3, and I picked it up, although what excitement I had for the game had faded. I few months ago, about 8 years after the re-release and over a decade since it's initial release, I decided to play through the game to see what I had missed. I was quite surprised with the game, and it's description did not match the game whatsoever. What was described as a light-hearted title, I found it to be dark, compelling, and full of emotion. About half the game was filler schlock, and it's clear they cut corners in both story and dungeon design in order to stretch a 15-20 hour game into a 40 hour one, but there was no denying that the high's were exceptionally high. As a side note, I consider the "Lineage and Legacies" after-story mandatory, as otherwise the ending is quite lackluster. In short, I was surprised at how much I enjoyed Tales of Graces, and immediately aimed to play another entry I had missed out on, Tales of Xillia. Now mind you, I've only played about 90 minutes of Tales of Xillia. However, what I have played has been rather dull. Whereas the characters in Tales of Graces felt sincere and heartfelt, the characters in Tales of Xillia so far have been either card-board cutouts, or lewd card-board cutouts. Without getting into spoilers, someone is brutally murdered in front of the main character's eyes. The murderer happens to be female, and also happens to not be wearing much more than lingerie for an outfit. The camera makes very very sure that you are aware of this, and whatever epic standoff was supposed to happen between the protagonists and her either didn't happen or wasn't visible, and the camera was wedged firmly between her legs for the majority of her screen time. Ignoring the 'plot,' the gameplay felt like a huge step back from Tales of Graces, reverting back to the old formula rather than innovating or expanding upon the system Tales of Graces had used. In Tales of Graces, it was a thrilling moment both story-wise and gameplay-wise when Asbel casts his first B-Arte, and a whole new layer is added on top of the combat. No such moment has arisen from Tales of Xillia, and I doubt such a moment exists in the game. I may revisit the game, I've certainly played my fair share of great games with terrible openings. But it's also fair to say that I found the game's opening extremely lackluster, especially hot off the heels of Tales of Graces.
  6. I'd say my favorite video game is League of Legends. League definitely gets a bad rap for it's community, which is understandable. Most matches go by without any negative interaction, but it is frequent enough to warrant mention. The game itself is fantastic. It's the perfect mix of approachability and depth. The various characters are easy to pick up and play and the core gameplay loop is pretty simple. However, each character and aspect of the game can often take years to master; whether that be knowing when you can all-in your opponent with a given character, to knowing where the enemy jungler is going to be at any given time without actually seeing them. My biggest gripe about the game is the balance, or lack thereof. Often, Riot Games, the creators of League, will opt to forcibly cycle characters in out of the meta in order to 'keep the game fresh.' In essence, no matter how poorly designed a character is, they will be shoved into relevancy at one time or another simply because they have been out of the limelight for what Riot believes is too long a time. Unfortunately, fan-favorites and characters that are well designed are almost inevitably going to remain terrible forever, as they are popular. Whether the character is weak or strong is irrelevant: if the character is popular, they are on the chopping block.
  7. I don't believe anyone has posted any music from Chaos Code (assuming the search bar hasn't betrayed me), so here's a link to my favorite piece: Chaos Code OST - Eleganza (Cthylla Stage)

  12. Welcome to my Changes-Lite Patch for The Sacred Stones! The Goal of this Patch was to make the least amount of changes to the base game for the greatest positive result. I’d recommend it to anyone who enjoys the base game, but is looking for a tighter experience with a handful of quality-of-life patches sprinkled in. If you’d like to learn more about the patch, I’ve created a video detailing what I believe to be some of the more important changes found within the patch. If you want to try the patch out yourself, or just learn more about it, feel free to click the links below: Changelog UPS Patch How to apply a UPS Patch (Thanks Arch!) If your interested, I’m also making a Let’s Play using the patch, so be sure to check it out. To those of you who made it this far, thank you for your interest! If you have any questions or comments, feel free to let me know. Enjoy!
