  1. I don't actively hack SS, but I think what Tuvy said is right. But to be more specific: What you have done so far is tell the game what you want Soldier to promote into, but not what items it uses to do so. I am assuming the reason it works for Recruit but not Soldier is because by default Master Seal is able to promote any class, but not soldier because they do not have a promotion in the GBA games. As I said I don't hack FE8 so this is conjecture, but: in the FE8 modules there are 2 other modules other than the one you used. There is also the Promotion Item editor (under the item modules), and the Promotion Pointer editor. So backup or whatever if you want to try this because I do not know but I THINK what you can do is: Go to the Promotion Pointer editor and use one of those blank pointers, for example 0x8E70200, and include every class that you want to be able to promote with Master Seal (or do this for any promotion item, up to you). This will tell the game that using this pointer, all of these classes you have listed there can use that item. Then you can go to the Promotion Item editor for the item you want to use, ie. Master Seal, and set the Promotion Pointer to the one you just edited in the Promotion Pointer editor. EDIT: I just tried this and it worked for me. I have Seth here as a Soldier lv. 11 who can use Master Seal to promote into General or Paladin.
  2. The most straightforward way to do just that, in my opinion, is to use FEditor which has a text editor. You just search for and find the string of text, for example "Iron Sword" and just replace it with something else and save. If you want to make sure you are editing the right text index for sure you can use Nightmare and its Item Editor module to find exactly which string is used for the item name and then look up that index in FEditor to make sure you are editing the right thing.
  3. Ok! So everything you want then can be done in nightmare easily. Change all of the movement and terrain pointers to exactly the same ones that pegasus knights or wyverns have and thats all you have to do for the movement. And the icons are under the Class Ability 2 list. Also just to note if your class is promoted you will have to add 01 on to that, so Pegasus icon for example is 0x10, so if your class is promoted, pick 0x11 (even though nothing is listed there) and it will give your class 0x10 + 0x01, (Pegasus icon + promoted status).
  4. I've never done this but I am pretty sure you can just give the class all of the features individually that a flier has. I am guessing you want it to have flier movement, give it the pegasus or wyvern icon, and be weak to bows and such. I don't think there is anything else that makes fliers different? The icon you can do in Nightmare in the class editor - you have probably already seen that. The movement you can as well. Just give it the same movement pointer that all the fliers have. You will notice pegasus knights/falcoknights/wyverns all have the same pointer. Use that and it lets them move over terrain. (Again pretty sure but it was a long time ago that I messed with this stuff.) As for weaknesses, the way that I would do this (not sure if there is another way) is to create a new Effectiveness somewhere in free space in your ROM. I think weapons are marked as being 'effective' against specific class IDs, and not a general 'flier' status. You might have to do some digging on exactly how to do this but you can specify a spot in your ROM where you list the classes you want an item to be effective against. Make one with Lyn Lord class included (which from memory I believe is class 0x02?) and point all of the weapons that you want to be effective against your Angel Mage class to this new effectiveness. Sorry that I can't explain it any better. But here I found a link to an old post that might help: https://serenesforest.net/forums/index.php?/topic/27014-weapon-effectiveness-question/
  5. Nightmare in my opinion is very easy to use. It also can help you to understand how hacking works, but you will quickly realize that for a full scale hack like you have planned, Nightmare alone is not enough. You can technically use just Event Assembler for everything, and you will definitely need Event Assembler later anyway. But my advice since you mentioned beginner-friendly would be to forget about your hack for now and just start messing around in Nightmare a bit. Change a few units, edit some stats, edit some classes and items. Learn how offsets and pointers and all that stuff works first. There are also lots of guides around. Maybe some people would disagree with this advice, there are more seasoned ROM hackers than me out there. FEditor has fairly straightforward text editing and portrait editing, but most people these days recommend you stay away from it since it is a bit unstable and can mess up your ROM randomly and cause weird errors. But I still use it from time to time, I just keep lots of backups. By the way those .NMM files are the modules that Nightmare uses. Idk if what you downloaded has Nightmare or not but check if there is a folder called 'dist' and the program itself might be in there.
  6. Actually I think as far as player controlled units go, their class in the GBA games also had nothing to do with their Luck. Luck as a base stat is not related to the class, but entirely by the individual unit. Luck is actually I think the only stat where a base stat is not assigned based on class in the GBA games. If you ROM hack edited a characters class, I think I am right in saying that their Luck would be the one stat that definitely would not change. But anyway I personally prefer characters having unique individual stats that can make them interesting to use over other characters of the same class. Lords seem to generally have pretty good Luck stat but I would rather see it tied to characters than class. Although with some of the changes people have talked about so far, if crits were far more common it could be cool to see units with high Luck sort of act as crit tanks, where you could safely throw them up against units with killer weapons and swordmasters and such, the same way people often put knights or generals up against high physical damage. Though I don't know which class I think would play the role of high Luck crit tank archetype the best.
  7. I've actually been thinking about this recently as well. DLuna above me mentioned that buffing MT on weapons are a pseudo-nerf to STR. I agree and I think that the opposite is also true, where the lower the Hit on weapons, and the higher the WT (in the games where it applies, but unfortunately this also buffs Speed), the more value that Skill and Luck have. I think in games like FE6 where weapons are significantly worse makes Skill and Luck already more valuable in those games than they are in later games. I think to make them good, they just need to contribute more to your hit and avoid in comparison to your weapons, since the amount they contribute comparatively is so small. So while people generally hate the weapon balancing in FE6 for example, I think that it maybe is too far in the other direction in games since then for Skill and Luck to have any meaningful value. Maybe it would feel more meaningful if your high Skill units were significantly more reliable at hitting than low Skill units, but that isn't really the case since they are carried by high weapon hit rates anyway. Also as you pointed out, crit dodge has almost no value in practice, since not only are enemies with significant crit rates pretty rare, most (or all) of the time, your strategy will revolve around trying to kill them without giving them a chance to attack. So Luck just doesn't do enough per point. I honestly don't have much to add about resistance right now.

    Hello!

Hi there, I'm new here. I'm a long time Fire Emblem fan. Been playing since FE7 in 2003. I used to be a member on FEPlanet a long time ago, maybe 2008-ish*, been meaning to sign up here for a long time. My interest has been on and off over the years, but FE is one of my favorite series, and the recent hype from the direct and stuff has me back in the mood. I've currently played FE 6 right up to 14 as well as FE4. My favorites are the GBA games, probably because they originally got me into it. I also play around a bit with ROM hacking FE7/8. Been working on a personal project once in a while for a year or so. Nothing I'm gonna release or anything, just for me and maybe a couple friends, but its a full scale hack and I've been starting to get the hang of it, and I find hacking very fun. *Always found it kind of funny, many years ago I used to use the name Nintenlord on the internet until I discovered there was a prominent member of the Fire Emblem community who had been using the name even longer, so I stopped using it.
