  1. I'm gonna say Corrin's prolly gonna win all things considered, but could be wrong ofc. I thought Robin would win vs. Tharja hands down, but I got straight up told. Lol. Accepted! Glad to see I'm not the only person in the world with a 5* Fae XD
  2. Yup, sounds good! Alisha ID: 4543074166 Fae leading
  3. Just sent a request. Alisha, Fae in the lead. Sweet, thanks, ^^
  4. I'm leading with my Fae in particular right now just so that every single team that she goes to will have an anti-Reinhardt unit no matter what, just in case. Just sent you a request, cause the more the merrier. and Nino is always appreciated. Name's Alisha with Fae in the lead.
  5. Woot, thanks! Yeah, same. I think this was the closest set of first rounds ever, which made playing the gauntlet more fun. Not one complete, sad, sad roflstomp for a change.
  6. Hey, I'm on Team Leo and just sent you a request. The name's Alisha and my lead is Fae.
  7. Woot, Team Leo victory against Team Xander! Tomato mage world order! He doesn't have a chance of winning the whole thing, but I can enjoy my victories while they last.
  8. Yeah, Corrin's dragon form is water-based. Makes sense, because eastern dragons are generally more associated with the sea/rain, while western ones are more associated with fire and brimstone and the like. I always thought Corrin breathing fire in Heroes was really out of place and weird, incidentally.
  9. All this dragon talk makes me remember how much I want Kurthnaga, Nasir and Ena in this game. ;-; Nasir would definitely be a blue I think, Kurthnaga and Ena being reds. That does make me curious if and how they'd implement the beast or bird laguz, or even the taguel, wolfskin or kitsune. Would be interesting to see.
  10. Because all magic being the same except "x magic hits harder. x magic is lighter" is stupidly uninteresting. Heck, there are times where I might need to kill a magic-using unit with another magic-using unit. Not to mention, the physical weapon triangle makes gameplay a lot more interesting; not hating on games pre-WT, but it added a whole new element. With the weapon triangle, you at least have to macro around "okay, this weapon isn't great against x, i should use y." I mean, if you're saying that the magic triangle has no effect, the weapon triangle isn't much better. Unless you're playing Heroes, you can flat out ignore it and go about your merry way. Does it give you small bonuses here or there? Sure, but there are plenty of units and situations where it's irrelevant. There's plenty of physically attacking units with high defense that can render the weapon triangle null, but that doesn't mean it should go completely. Not to mention, it adds to the lore of magic. Light strong against dark? Cleansing, divine energy against unholy, mysterious energy. Unholy, mysterious forces strong against the primal elements, etc. I really like that angle.
  11. Oh, yeah, don't get me wrong. I'm not saying that we've conquered racism, classim, or sexism in the present day. Far, far from it. I'm not that naive, haha. I was just saying that FE worlds have their share of medieval biases, even if they're slightly different than the medieval biases of our own world. "Ye olde tongue" is an exaggeration, I think. We're not talking Shakespearean English or Middle English here (unless you're Bastian, and the whole point of his character is to sound flowery and high-handed), which, yeah that would be jarring as hell and awkward. It's slightly formal modern English, something you'd read out of a novel from the 19th or 18th centuries. Whether you like that writing or not comes down to personal opinion, of course. I enjoy it in period pieces and fantasy pieces, because it gives a bit more "realism," or maybe better said, believability to the world. Considering a ton of modern slang/sayings evolved very, very recently, they just don't make sense in old-world fantasy type setting in my opinion. It may not strain credibility/believability or take you out of the story, but it does for me. When I read something like Beowulf, it's not written/translated in our modern language with our modern sayings. It's a high fantasy epic with the language to go along with it, which I tended to read FEs pre-Awakening as and enjoyed. With the other fantastical elements, it comes down to suspension of disbelief, and yes, in a lot of ways suspension of disbelief is cherry picked. It's what "sounds" or "feels" right to you. With any media, you have to accept inaccurate/fantastical elements to enjoy it and get immersed in the world. With FE in particular, It's always been implied that there are nameless, faceless allied soldiers that the plot doesn't bother to show us, because of course 20ish people couldn't win an entire war by themselves. We do have siege weapons in balistas, and also siege tomes like meteor and bolting. Our characters are far better looking than the average medieval soldier, because it's a video game, which wants to market attractive characters. Not to mention, starvation/siege tactics that were common in the real world aren't conducive to interesting or intriguing play in a video game. I can accept all of the above, because I can either explain it away as a necessity of marketing or gameplay, or because it "fits" within the world that has been created. Your saying that the scripts of Blazing Blade and Sacred Stones is stilted I heavily disagree with. I got plenty of character, funny moments, and good writing out of both of them, while not being taken out of the setting by an off-color slang remark or meme. I can appreciate the well-spoken characters a lot more because of it. Contrary to popular belief, you can be funny and well-written without writing in a modern tongue.
  12. So. I have a new appreciation for Draconic Aura... This most recent VG battle I had my Karel, an Ike and an Alm team against with a team with Lukas alongside a Kagero and Minerva. Ike literally couldn't scratch Lukas at all after killing Minerva. My Karel was nearly killed by Kagero, but took her out with Reprisal, and Fury left him at 1 HP. Alm was doing 1 damage to Lukas...until he activated Draconic Aura. I had no idea that it completely ignored Weapon Triangle, holy crap. Two Draconic Auras won the day.
  13. I think it's the difference of Gaius being far, far more popular in Japan than Frederick is. I'm not sure if Frederick has the edge in the west over Gaius, but considering Gaius is one of the top Awakening characters in terms of popularity in Japan (so much so that he got a clone in Fates), I'm not surprised at all. EDIT: Damn, ninja'd.
  14. > innocuously goes to VG battle > ends up with an all-red team versus Reinhardt, Sharena, and Linde > flies into the sun while 'how could this happen to me...' starts playing
  15. Ah, thanks for this! Would you say Eirika is worth promoting to 5* to get Sieglinde along with her supporting capabilities? My next promotion is 100% lined up to be my +Atk Reinhardt, but I'm trying to plan for the future. I'm currently using my 5* Karel as my main red sword (Wo Dao+, Fury, Reprisal, Desperation, Threaten Def). For 5* red swords I also have Alm (L&D, Swordbreaker, Threaten Def) and Seliph (Brave Sword, Armored Blow, Brash Assault), with 4* Chrom (Brave Sword, Death Blow, Swordbreaker, Threaten Attack) as backup. I could get to training 4* Xander up and am considering training up 4* Lloyd, but I'm unsure about the latter case. In the first case, In the first case I'd also need to finish training up Horse Emblem (Reinhardt, Xander, Gunter, and either Abel or Jagen, unsure about which one of those) to get the most use out of him.
  16. I agree with all of this for the most part. Light magic may have low might, but if they give it chances to shine - versus monsters like Sacred Stones, or dark mages, for example, then it'll fit back in nicely. Weapon triangle has never exactly been make-it-or-break-it in the main series like it is a lot of the time in Heroes, but I think the magic triangle makes using magic a lot more dynamic. Radiant Dawn's magic system was basically perfect for me - the anima mage characters could use all three, but specialized (SS Rank) in one element. Bards/dancers/songstresses should come back, or something like them like the herons from Tellius, especially if their buffs are as diverse as the herons' buffs are. They provide more depth and diversity to the gameplay, and more strategic options. I liked ninjas, but I don't see them returning unless we get along Japanese-inspired setting. Outlaws are interesting take on thieves, and I wouldn't mind seeing them return, especially if they could provide the utility of staves. I'd also like another hybrid physical-magical class in the vein of Dark Knights or Basara (Basara taking the edge over Dark Knight for me, which I found to be decent, but not great), or Jugdral mage knights, because I enjoyed a bit of a tankier alternative (sacrificing a bit of magic power) to regular mages. Bring back the Tellius-style soldier/halberdier as well. I've just always been fond of their look, and having them be off-tank, moderately fast to the armor's full tank, but slow as molasses thing is cool.
  17. :O I thought I was the only one! It truly is a glorious day! I'm...surprisingly agreeing with this. I dislike Camilla just because she's used for shallow fanservice and pretty much nothing else, but exploring more of her trauma during the Concubine Wars and why she's so...disturbingly attached to Corrin would be interesting. I think she has potential to be a good, or at least interesting character, but they go for the lowest common denominator with her instead. But yeah she 100% needs a better design first.
  18. After much debate I finally joined Team Leo, because he's just too darn adorable to pass up. I'm impressed by just how close these battles are, which I think makes them a lot more fun. During one of my recent battles, I fought against a team with a 5* Odin. Now I have seen everything... Funny thing, my team had a Reinhardt, so it was one of those "Look what you could have had" situations. Really, I can only imagine the love that person must have for Odin in order to grind out enough to level him and promote him to 5*...that, or they have worse luck than anyone I know and don't have better stuff then him. That, or they're completely ignorant of the meta. That...or they're just trolling. Lol.
  19. Speaking of GHBs, I'm still holding out for that inevitable Black Knight GHB, and I would love a separate red-armor Zelgius GHB, since seems like villains/antagonists only get released through those. BK with Alondite, and hopefully Zelgius with a fancy spear, as a nod to how both BK and Zelgius could use both in PoR and RD. Also, Julius GHB, with Loptyr. I am ready. Huh, that's pretty interesting. I have a question about Seliph! So his Japanese name, Celice, I heard that according to the Japanese characters it's supposed to be pronounced like "Sell-ees," rather than "Sell-iss." Is that true? I always pronounced it like the latter pre FE13...
  20. It's pronounced "horrible waste of space that shouldn't exist" I always pronounced it like "Eel-ee-ah-nuh." But looking at it now it looks like "Eel-yah-nuh." Question, is the hard "c" also true for people like Celica and Cecilia? I'm really curious now. Yup, that's probably it. I had never heard the official pronunciation of the faerie queen's name in Midsummer Night's Dream (we didn't read it in high school like a lot of people did, and it wasn't until I was an adult that I got a chance to read it on my own). Sothe's name is said aloud by Micaiah in the opening cutscene of RD Part 1. If I recall correctly, it's like "So-thuh," with one syllable and the stress on the "So", though the Micaiah kind of whispers it underneath loud music so it's a little hard to hear. Not sure about the others. I'd have to go through and play/watch Radiant Dawn again.
  21. True, I forgot about Tobin... And then there's Faye, when archer is one of the few paths she literally can't go down. Here's hoping for a badass mage Kliff, who becomes S+ tier because I adore Kliff and he's like my second favorite villager aside from Gray. Ah. Huh, guess I heard it wrong. See ms a little weird that they'd pronounce the "c" as a hard sound instead of a soft one. But yeah, the original pronunciation is probably the officially correct one from the name's origin (the faerie queen Titania), but I always liked the second one a lot better. Sounds more natural to my American ears, I guess, lol.
  22. Kliff's probably gonna be a mage. It's pretty much agreed on as his "canon" path, and the Cipher has nothing but mage!Kliff.
  23. Yup, it's "Tih-tahn-yuh," according to the narration of Radiant Dawn. I hated it, ignored it, and substituted their reality for my own. I much, much prefer "Tie-tane-ee-uh"... Sounds so much cooler.... :/
  24. Pronunciation debates and arguments in FE won't go away until we literally have a site or an app that pronounces every single name, person, place, and item in the series for us. And even then, there will be arguments. I'm one of those people that stubbornly pronounces "Titania" as "Tie-tane-ee-uh" rather than "Tih-tahn-yuh," because that's how I pronounced it before I heard its actual pronunciation in RD. You can't change my mine on that, IS. I do kinda wanna do a Mage Emblem and take it into the arena, just for the fun of it. See how well we do with like Nino, Tharja, M!Robin (I don't have a Linde, and I want some form of tankiness on the team...), and, like, Azama or something to be another physical tank/healer with the free Pain staff damage. That sounds horrible, but fun in the stupid sort of way. Reinhardt counts as a mage right? So I can put him on the team?
  25. @MrSmokestack Thanks, this is extremely helpful!
