Even if you know some of them, you would have to pick randomly again if you used Tharja. The only randomized hand picks are Tharja and Leo, and you have to do the same for both (pick without looking).

Okay, that's awesome to know and clears a ton of stuff up for me.  Thanks for all the feedback on this!

Already answered but, face-down bonds don't have attributes yeah. Only apply when face-up.

Already answered again, but I have a decent example for this - For a skill to proc on specific supports, like Nino only activates when an ally is supported by Nino, because it's a failed support, the check doesn't go off and Nino is already in the Retreat Area by that point. Same situation with Nah.

All the cards of the stack go into their Bond Area. This means if you target a unit who is Class Changed / Levelled up, all cards, the top card and any cards underneath are sent to the Bond Area.

The effect is a bit off on the Wiki - the exact effect is referring to selecting a card from the opponent's hand without looking at it, so basically revealing a random card (or making them discard a random card). The card is only discarded if the Deployment Cost is 3 or less though of course.

When the Main Character is destroyed, they must take an orb, just like as if they were attacked and as a result of the battle were destroyed (in this case it's by a skill, so it can't be evaded). If they don't have any orbs at all when their Main Character gets destroyed, you win the game.

Thanks for the responses and the info, that helps a ton! (And woah, using that two-bond Arvis ability could seriously backfire. XD)

Also, apology for getting super specific with the question on Tharja, but if I know some of the cards in an opponent's hand from previously having revealed them, would I be able to pick them out from memory or identify them by name, or would the discard have to be just randomized via dice or something of the sort?

Tinni's question is a no - Face-Down Bonds are considered as having no attributes to them whatsoever, and therefore don't count as Tomes because that would be an attribute for the Bond.

Any effect on any card that requires a specific kind of Support won't trigger on a Failed Support - I had another example, but I forgot it. Either way, Nah won't trigger on a Self-Support.

Patty's skill means they take an Orb if they have any, yes.

I know I've had Arvis used against me before, but I can't remember what the ruling for that was. Let me check with the people I play with and get back to you on that one. I'll also need to go check the Tharja card and figure that out for you, but I've got work now so I can't check that yet.

Awesome!  Thanks for the response on the first few and yeah, if you can let me know on Arvis and Tharja later that would be awesome.

I just saw the new update on Lacky with all the new cards and I'm wondering if a horse emblem deck is possible?

I've actually looked into this (sort of) for a while because there's a few cards in B08 that I feel like would be useful for this.  If you're into cavalry cards, Frederick from B08-009SR is a really good way to bolster your main character on a class change with a minimal cost.  By flipping one bond when you class change another card you get a free 4/3 70 attack unit and on top of that he keeps enemies from critically hitting your main character and moving him or your main character.  So...if you have 3/2 cards in your deck, which you can run as early as Turn 2, you can hit your opponent with a 4/3 Frederick really early in the game.

Also if you're considering "Horse Emblem" anyways and building on a lot of cavalry, the 3/2 Ares (B08-082N) could work nicely, where the bond skill basically gives a horse unit 20 extra attack for the turn just by placing Ares in your bonds.  You can also combine this with the 4/3 Ares to bolster the number of bonds that you have to work with anyways.

If I had to guess, and like depending on how competitively or casually you're playing, there's a bunch of cards from B08 you could probably run as Horse Emblem because it's got so much emphasis on cavalry.  And some of them are niche cards or maybe not the best in terms of viability - like B08-026 Tharja for niche effects, or B08-010 "Run and gun" Virion - but depending on the deck you're running you might be able to find a place for them or a way to use them effectively.

(That's all I got because I've only ever bought en masse from B08 series, and I know those cards better than I know any of the other sets - the more experienced players might be able to make other suggestions on this too.)

  5. Hi all,

Still a relatively fresh player, and for the most part I only play casual games with a couple local friends.  Most of what we have to work with are B08 series cards and a few others, but I had a few questions come up on rules/errata surrounding certain cards.  A couple easy ones and few head-scratchers.

    Easy:

B08-085R - Maiden of Purifying Lightning, Tinni - Do bonds that are consumed for the "critical hit" effect need to be face up to be sent to retreat, or can face-down bonds be used as long as they're tome cards?

B08-038N - Serious Manakete, Nah - For a stone support to trigger Nah's effect it has to be a successful support, right?  So a failed support with Nah herself wouldn't trigger the effect?

    And the head-scratchers:

B08-096R - Emperor of Grannvale, Arvis - For the bond skill effect, which sends an opponent's unit into their bonds, how does this work with class changed or levelled up units?  Does the top card go to the bond area or do all individual cards in the stack go into the bond area?  Just curious because this could really throw the viability/non-viability of this ability.

B08-026R - Searing Envy, Tharja - This one's confusing specifically because I'm seeing different translation on Lackey and on the wiki here concerning this card.  Lackey's translation is that the card that is selected and possibly discarded is a random selection, where the wiki translation is that the player gets to select.  Again, curious because this affects how viable the card is.

B08-079SR - The Just Master Thief, Patty - This one's got me really confused.  The third ability in the chain that Patty gets specifies that if the card in the opponent's hand is the same name as the main character, the main character is destroyed.  If your opponent still has orbs left, does that mean you would just take an orb, or does that mean that the main character is destroyed regardless of orbs?

If anyone knows any of the answers/rulings/translations or would be able to help me out on this I'd greatly appreciate it.

This depends on how willing you are to level grind said characters.

If you're willing to put in the effort, Henry gets Warrior and consequently Counter, while I don't remember if Gaius gets it. Either way, give Noire Counter and Pavise as Tharja can become a General. Olivia would of course want to pass along Galeforce to Inigo if you put in the effort, and you can then give him either Counter from Henry or Lethality, Pass Astra, or Acrobat from Gaius, all of which are at least decent Skills. Basically, ignore Virion as he only gets the Archer, Mage and Wyvern Rider Class Trees, all of which are generally not as useful as Henry, who gets Thief, Dark Mage and Barbarian Class Trees, and Gaius, who gets Thief, Myrmidon and I believe Fighter Class Trees.

If you don't want to put in that much effort, Gaius will pass along either Lethality/Pass or Acrobat/Lucky Seven depending on whether you go Assassin or Trickster, while Henry can give either Vengeance/Tomebreaker or Slow Burn/Lifetaker.

    Also,

Don't know if you still wanted the help or not, but I gave you some draw support ideas on your old Cipher post.

Thanks, just looked it over and that helps a bunch! I dunno why I didn't get a notification on that, might have just missed it. Life/work stuff has had me pretty swamped of late.

  7. When I saw the title of the thread I thought this meant you were getting Tharja and Olivia married to each other. xD And I was like "No idea how you modded the game to do that, but that sounds cool." xD

Gonna agree - Gaius and Tharja are a solid pick, especially since you can end up with a Noire that potentially has Lifetaker if Tharja goes Dark Knight, and you can combine that with Lethality from Gaius as an assassin, and...I've found it to be a pretty solid combination before.  Noire can be a horrifying unit to face off against depending on the build.

  8. Hi all!  Just finished a fic earlier today that I posted on AO3 and so I thought I'd provide a link if anyone wants to check it out:

    http://archiveofourown.org/works/10962279/chapters/24403257

It's a four-parter, which is my take on the C, B, A, and S support conversations that Hector and Tharja would have in the Heroes mobile game if supports were a thing.  I'm hoping to do a ton more of these fics down the road with different crack pairs, but went with my fave Heroes crack pairing first because I wanted to start off strong.

Would love to hear any feedback on content, writing style, etc., or any other thoughts that y'all have.  It's been ages since I've done any actual fanfiction so the help would be much appreciated.

    Thanks!

I might have to take a break from the community (SF's Heroes subforum) soon. The boasting and jeering are honestly grating on my nerves.

Honestly this has been me with other social media surrounding the gauntlet.  I've found that there's been a lot of negativity floating around and...as much as I'm enjoying the new gauntlet mechanics, I'm finding a lot of the discourse in different tags, etc. to be pretty toxic.

With Serenes I don't feel like it's been as bad, but...yeah.

  10. For my Team Tharja dudes, I still have 2K in flags left and I'm just waiting on an opportune moment to drop 'em.  Hang in there!  It's not over till it's over!

Speaking of which, anybody on Tharja's team have any thoughts on strategy going forward from here, where we're down by close to a billion?  Part of me wants to wait for us to get the multiplier but if Team Robin just holds us even like this for a while, and if we don't make headway, we could end up losing just waiting for the multiplier to kick in.  I'm thinking I'll probably going to try for a moderated approach if we haven't had multiplier by partway through tomorrow, save like 400 flags in case of a multiplier and just burn everything else.

P.S. Congrats to Team Robin for the wild ride this gauntlet round has been so far - you're tipping our scales hard!  (But It's still anybody's game!)

P.P.S. If anybody wants to use my Hector or Tharja (and I kind of alternate between them as main), add me at 1227575257!

  11. Hi all,

Still playing around with deckbuilding and I hit I've hit a bit of a roadblock - trying to figure out good draw support cards.  So far I'm coming up with Azel, Tinni, Patti (who works because of some of the supporting cards in my existing deck well) but I'm trying to find either other gold cards that will do decent draw support, or blue or violet if I can't find others in gold.  I've poked through the wiki and so far I'm not coming up with a lot - anyone have suggestions?

    Thanks!

  12. Admittedly (and y'all could probably guess by my forum avatar) I'll be backing Team Tharja.  She has been a fave for ages and I'm stoked to be able to be able to use my 5* Tharja for the event.  I'm also hoping to use mage battles as an excuse to dust off my art skills and do some Gauntlet-themed art pieces too...Might actually finally graduate from traditional art and get around to using my tablet. xD

    (Salty tho because no Nino.)

  13. I just promoted Sharena the other day.  No regrets. xD

The next promotion is going to be harder to figure out, I think.  I've got Tharja and Sharena promoted, and...now I'm debating between Narcian and Michaelis next - having a flying unit would be nice, and I don't have a green 5* yet so this would check both of those boxes.

  14. This one's probably going to be an odd question and I don't know if someone's already done this, but thought I might throw this out as a question to any math/probability nerds around (and all glory and honor to thee, math nerds, because even though I'm a university history major most high school math lies far beyond my grasp) but I was trying to work this out for a friend of mine who's been stockpiling her orbs.  She's waiting on some of her faves (one blue and one green both in the 4*-5* group specifically) and I'm trying to figure out if it works out better from a probability point of view for her to just stick to summoning blue and green or if it works out better from a probability vs. cost point of view to just keep doing a full summon each time.

So, trying to work it out myself, I started with identifying the number of each unit in-game by color and star:

    5* - Red 18, Blue 12, Green 9, Colorless 9

    4* - Red 26, Blue 19, Green 15, Colorless 20

    3* - Red 15, Blue 12, Green 9, Colorless 13

And then I tried to break each down to a percentage chance per unit by color:

    Red Orb:

    3% for Focus (if applicable)

3% for 5*, 1/18 of 3% which would basically work out to 0.167% per character

36% for 4*, 1/26 of 36% which would basically work out to 1.38% per character

61% for 3*, 1/15 of 61% which would basically work out to 4.07% per character

    Blue Orb:

    3% for Focus (if applicable)

3% for 5*, 1/12 of 3% which would basically work out to 0.25% per character

36% for 4*, 1/19 of 36% which would basically work out to 1.89% per character

61% for 3*, 1/12 of 61% which would basically work out to 5.08% per character

    Green Orb:

    3% for Focus (if applicable)

3% for 5*, 1/9 of 3% which would basically work out to 0.33% per character

36% for 4*, 1/15 of 36% which would basically work out to 2.4% per character

61% for 3*, 1/9 of 61% which would basically work out to 6.78% per character

    Colorless:

    3% for Focus (if applicable)

3% for 5*, 1/9 of 3% which would basically work out to 0.33% per character

36% for 4*, 1/20 of 36% which would basically work out to 1.8% per character

61% for 3*, 1/13 of 61% which would basically work out to 4.69% per character

But this leaves me with a few questions that I was hoping anyone who's been working with stats for the game so far would be able to clarify: If the color isn't in focus, does that 3% just not apply?  Is there an equal chance of getting the four different colors in a five-summon group or is it distributed based on the number of units in each category? (With higher chance for example of red showing up in a summoning block than, say, green?)  And if one could work out an overage or a percentage of the number of times that a color would appear in the summoning group, could one then use this to more or less predict, if dumping a set number of orbs in (say 100 orbs in one batch for example), what the probability would be of coming up with certain characters?

Most of what I'm managing to accomplish with this is hurting my brain at this point, lol, but I'm wondering if anyone could either fill in some blanks or make corrections to where I'm making any wrong assumptions or guesswork on this.

  15. Thanks for some of the suggestions on this!  And for some of the pointers relating to MC selection, that definitely helps point me in a few good new directions.  I've started looking over these and over a few cards from the new set and I hoping I'll be able to pull something a little more effective off now.

EDIT: Not as an MC but I'm definitely looking at Patty as an option for support as well.  The ability is risky and very conditional but looks like it could pack a lot of punch under the right circumstances.

  16. Hi Myst, thanks very much for the response!  The frankness is hugely appreciated and yeah, given the relatively low attack from what I'd gathered from other tutorials and such I figured she wouldn't be great as an MC.  I'm definitely going to consider shifting the concept of whatever deck I run around slightly, but knowing that there's some synergy with Thief class cards helps too.

I've seen a couple deck concepts that work the Series 1 Tharja in really well, so I'll definitely look at possibly switching over to that as an MC as well.  Thanks again!

    EDIT:

    B04-070.png.9cb227b049f4a585972e1456b9a20b4a.png

It occurs to me that this particular Gaius might not be a bad replacement MC or supplementary card because of the ability:

Door of the Treasury - At the start of your turn, you can pay the cost. If you do, reveal the top card of the opponent's deck, and add 1 card from your Retreat to your hand with a lower cost than the revealed card.

Depending on the cards in the other deck I could see that lining up well with 3/2 Tharja, and could give me some effective card recovery options.  Plus would definitely help me keep more cards in my hand than my opponent if there are cards that hinge on that.

  17. I tried this with a bunch of my own units and got pretty thoroughly ROFL-stomped. xD The suggestions I've seen here look awesome though, and I'll definitely try and work something new in next time, probably training Narcian up.  I'd meant to do that a while anyways!
