  1. Well, at least they did have that thing saying "there are no plans to give out the seals that can be created in the Sacred Seal Forge as a reward for an event, so if there is one you want, you should probably go ahead and make it."
  2. As an alternative to the multiplier, I am in favor of having puppies wearing each character's costume and play soccer or something, and whoever's pup scores or has the ball or whatever gets a bonus.
  3. Popularity contests are dumb. The voting gauntlet is dumb too. Come have some dumb fun with the rest of us instead of being upset over something with crazy low stakes that nobody can individually control.
  4. Anyone wanna bet that the margin of victory will be less than 22,000 votes?
  5. I binged all of season 2 of Stranger Things late last night and just assumed there'd be regular multipliers today, so I'm stuck with using 400 flags per hour til it's over. Whatever.
  6. "I don't like this politician's changes and I heard some other person call him a 'communist' and sound more credible than me so I'll call him a communist to validate my complaint" would be a case of a meaningless insult. The person they heard it from could have said "zamboni" instead of "communist" and it'd be equally meaningless. It's poor communication because they don't even know what the word is supposed to mean other than something negative, and few others would understand why it was said. Within the context of taxonomy, which as a field of terminology is separate from most people's everyday use and has clearly defined the rules in an objective way, yes, you'd be wrong (unless you're referring to the entire genus as "crow", which would be acceptable but potentially confusing). Talking to a bunch of random people who don't know any better, you'd be "correct" because you and your listeners are sharing the same context of a little black bird. Both you and your listeners lump both birds into the same group because you wouldn't need a word to distinguish them. Well, that's one way to look at it. People are certainly emotional over the impacts, which isn't helping. I think the issue is that the term "power creep" is too broad sounding. and we have a need for more terms to describe what different people are saying. It's definitely a problem if we are using the same terms but different meanings, that's a straight up communication failure. Words that most people rarely (if ever) use aren't really at risk of having their meaning change. People in a given field, particularly with technology, tend to have a strong grip on their terms since they use them the most. There's nothing inherently bad about a change in meaning unless it causes a communication failure.
  7. Getting people to accept your definition of dog house or bear trap is giving meaning to a term, no matter how ridiculous it seems. Calling someone a communist can have a variety of interpretations and it depends on the intent of usage. There's a big difference between misconstruing meaning, using figurative language, using a term as a meaningless insult, etc.
  8. Actually, if you did get other people to accept your definitions, then your definitions would be correct. Language changes based on the needs and trends of those who use it. That's why we develop new words in the first place. Here's some info on semanticss of some English words changing over time.
  9. You misunderstand, so allow me to elaborate. Math and science (net profits, vaccines) are empirical and results cannot be changed whether people understand them or not, while language (a definition of power creep) is practical and can be explained and interpreted in any number of ways. In the context of Heroes (or games in general), tier lists are another example of something that is practical, since they are based on what people value in skills/stats/etc. I do agree that using a term wrong can complicate things and there may be a need to teach others the proper terminology, but the stakes are lower here when compared to something like vaccinations, and anyone has a right to challenge the definition. Those guys you mention may have years of experience working in the gaming industry, but the context and their message is more than clear and comprehensible for anyone to get. It's subjective because you can view the concept(s) through greater or smaller lenses (ie: the entirety of Heroes or a specific category of units), deconstruct it, add to it, etc. Also, I am in agreement with you regarding the impact of unchecked power creep in Heroes.
  10. Net profits are an exact measurement and nobody is contesting it's meaning. Power creep is contextual and ambiguous, and depends on your definition of "power" and other variables. The fact that there's even a disagreement over its meaning makes any use of it subjective. All language is subject to the potential for change, no matter how old or new. That a large number of people have a different interpretation of a term shows that there's a need for an alternate way of expressing that idea (ie: more terms). Some guy on Youtube who has experience designing games is using what very well may be the proto-definition, but he can't do anything about people who collectively either misconstrue that explanation, or come in to the conversation with an alternate understanding. You can argue that someone is "wrong" if you want, but then you're not addressing the that person's point, which matters more than the semantics.
  11. If you have to ask people if they think something is objective, it's not. And also something something the evolution of language and blah blah blah blah it's usually those internet whiners who make a big deal about blah blah blah
  12. Going Shanna cuz she's grooooooovy. Bringing back bowkiller Boey 3589968470
  13. Did it with the same team as before (Felicia and Cherche), and only a few changes to skills/seals: Alf repositioned Cherche close enough to hit the Lance Cav, Sharena pulled him back, Felicia took out the Red Mage using Guidance from Cherche Cherche and Felicia backed up into a corner, and Sharena baited Cecilia, bringing her down to 3 HP Sharena hit Cecilia twice, Alf finished her off. Cherche moved in with Wings of Mercy to kill the Lance Flier. Pulled everyone back a bit to get a better shot, while using Guidance to bring Felicia in safely Sharena wipes out Lilina (Bonfire wasn't necessary), and Cherche swooped in to finish off the Archer (Draconic Aura WAS necessary)
  14. Calculator redesign is good. Only other stuff I could mention are things I've talked about earlier in the thread, which are largely design thoughts.
  15. Well, let's just see how my feathers are doing and Anyway, going to Soren. 3589968470
  16. Not a hard rule per se, but generally the most popular characters are the ones that people would genuinely enjoy spending time with were they real, identify with, or want to be like. After all, your audience is going to be spending a lot of time with these characters. Making a good villain is important for your story's central conflict to work, and gives your main character more to work with (actions & reactions between characters). Bear in mind that realistic villains aren't evil for evil's sake, and if their motivation isn't something totally selfish (ie: greedy person exploiting others), they often see themselves and whatever they're doing as right (ie: restoring order through violence).
  17. Unless I'm violating forum rules, I can jump into any conversation I feel like and say whatever the hell I want. The whole power creep definition argument is silly and you should feel silly for engaging it for so long, and so aggressively to boot.
  18. Not my problem, I'm not here complaining about what constitutes as power creep. I also don't give a shit about any of the characters being discussed. After all, "better" is subjective, impermanent, and kinda arbitrary when you could potentially beat anything with just about any character/group.
