  1. The following thread is for Kartal's Advance Wars 2 ROM hack, Fire Emblem Wars, which features Advance Wars gameplay with Fire Emblem units and characters. Kartal was unable to start a thread himself so I'm doing it in his stead. He will post details shortly.
  2. I beat it today. The final boss is way insane. [spoiler=Final Boss details]It's a dragon with 37 attack that ignores defenses, and he has 37 defense and 27 res. Since all magic units in this hack are crap it came down to my Warriors with Basilikos and support bonuses. I actually wonder if it's possible to make it that far and wind up not being able to actually win because your units got bad levels. Which would be a real shame as the rest of the game is mostly designed very well. I think we've got a superb hack here.
  3. That's the defense map in Pherae with Eliwood right? If so I was able to recruit him with the Mercenary that joins you automatically in that chapter. That Mercenary is very weak, however, so there's a level of risk to it. In general I'm pretty sure if you see a boss shield or hear a boss theme there's nothing you can do to recruit that character. I might be wrong though.
  4. It's quite an interesting hack, though it did take a whole 20 chapters for anything difficult to come out since the enemies are stupidly underpowered. The cool thing is, you almost always recruit a character by either talking with the main character or with a character you get in the same chapter. (I never figured out how to recruit the Wyvern Lord in Chapter 12 though) That's really good design especially for foreign players.
  5. I finally got to play this so it's time for me to weigh in~ Okay, I REALLY like it so far for the most part. I love enemies having items for Sothe to steal. I've always loved stealing in FE, in fact if more enemies had secondary weapons I'd probably take 50 turns stealing them all XD I also feel the difficulty is much nicer; I got into trouble when I lost Vika and Volug, but I never liked characters with V-names anyways :P That should tell you that Laguz and BK are no longer auto-win characters which is very good. I also like BK leaving most enemies with 1 or 2 HP, makes kill feeding easy. I think Nolan was nerfed too far, though, because he's barely scratching most enemies. I'm at 1-F and I haven't promoted anyone at all yet so that might have something to do with it. I also like having a lot of bargains even though my brain tells me I'm terrible for not buying all of them :P If possible I'd like Master Seals to be sell-able like in PoR since I try not to use them, and I'd like Paragon to only cost 10 since the characters I want to use it on don't have nearly the capacity for it. Would help out with leveling some of the units that start to fall behind later on in Part 1. Edward, Leo, Meg and Fiona were originally useless, now they're pretty good...at least for a few chapters. On my run they're still stuck at level 10 because even though they're better now, everyone else still has them outclassed, pretty much. That's really a problem with RD as a whole that I'm not sure could be fixed unless I shoved a heap of BEXP at them. The only bad thing so far is 1-F, it's completely awful. The map itself is already bad because you either take the long way or climb walls, and if you climb walls, your hit rates against the enemies are very low since it's an uphill battle. Couple that with annoying reinforcements, Thieves who are too fast to be stopped, and a Meteor sage (oh come on >_< ) and you've got a chapter that I can only see anyone beating by turtling it. I'd honestly unpromote most of the enemies, at least so the player can climb the walls faster or something, it's just too slow at the moment. Other than that, I'm looking forward to what Part 2 ends up like.
  6. Could you list which files on the disc were modified? That way they could be taken out of the ISO and loaded on a real Wii through Riivolution; I presume you wouldn't want to upload the modified files for copyright reasons.
  7. Behold the Ragefest timeline! (Spoilers for my submission inside)
  8. Oh hey a new thread! I suppose I should post a newer version! https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/69192380/FE7Randomizer.zip This update: - Fixes a couple mistakes with specific inventories - Has better randomization. Eliwood and Marcus don't get the same classes anymore. - Allows you to view the numbers generated for the first few characters by typing "the SECRET WORD" when the program asks you to. This is just in case we notice another pattern like before.
  9. Haha sure why not? Also when EA gives an error when assembling the file can you post the line that it seems to be complaining about? That way I can pinpoint where the error is better. Dunno what happened with Monk Dorcas though...
  10. Ah, perhaps I forgot to autolevel her. Thanks for catching that. For the whole Lord promotion problem it's simplest to simply not promote them with items. Later on I'll include an option for non-lords to not be able to become lords. For Karla...I did not consider the game might check for one specific class when making her appear...there's probably no way to avoid that either, not that anyone liked Karla at all. Also yes, Renault just happened to wind up as a Bishop with that inventory which I was too lazy to edit. I'll have to make the program also disable custom animations due to the problems that occur regarding that. Klok, you sniped my Golden Axe reference. Also, Brigands and Soldiers not promoting is not a bug; you never could promote them originally. I'll need to add in a few quick hex edits for them to promote. Also kurthnaga, thanks for the testing! There does seem to be a pattern there, perhaps the method I'm using for generating a random number isn't so random after all. This is Visual Basic though. At any rate I'm glad people seem to be enjoying this at least. Anyhow, I recently made a few changes to the program: You can now choose to not change Eliwood and Hector's classes. That way you can avoid the problem with Chapter 11H. https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/69192380/FE7Randomizer.zip <- Download Link.
  11. Right, I forgot, Fiora tries to walk past water tiles to appear on the map. The way to fix that would be to edit this section of the text file: Changing the bolded parts to [3,4] [3,5] should make Fiora spawn past the water tiles; it'll look strange but it'll be playable again anyway.
  12. HEY GUYS I GOT OFF MY LAZY REAR FINALLY https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/69192380/FE7Randomizer.zip This zip contains a save with Hector mode unlocked for your convenience and the program itself. To use it, run it, type in a filename for the text file and hit enter. Then take the text file to Event Assembler and use it on your ROM. This tool gives each character, including lords but excluding thieves, Ninian, Nils and Athos a random class from a selection of twenty as well as a different inventory and weapon levels to match their new class. This can cause the game to become extremely hard or even unwinnable - it is random, after all! Note that Lyn mode is unaffected because I hate Lyn mode. Please try it, and if anything strange happens, let me know~
  13. If anyone's wondering why I'm using VB to output an EA file instead of editing ROMs directly, well, call be bad at VB but I never figured out how to do that :\ This is the next best thing, though.
  14. Klok has a thing for jumping the gun. >_<; Anyways yes I'm making the tool even though it probably interests a whole four people. Currently it picks a random class for each character and then gives the character weapons the new class can actually use, with the new items being a rough equivalent to what they originally had if possible. If the character originally started unpromoted, s/he stays unpromoted. I'm also planning to have everyone's weapon ranks adjusted accordingly. Matthew, Legault and Jaffar are unnaffected by this at the moment in favor of not having to pray you get a Thief soon enough to opens doors and such. (See: Chapter 11H. In fact that chapter probably makes Hector Mode undesirable anyways.) And since one Thief is enough the other characters can't randomly become Thieves. Athos, Ninian, Nils and Merlinus are also unaffected because it might break the scripted battles and such. Lords are affected, but remember, they can still promote, they just need a different item. (The main character only promotes through the cutscene shortly before getting Durandal/Armads) Mostly I'm focusing on FE7 for now. I know FE8's going to make things way complicated, but we'll cross that bridge when we get to it. In my opinion that defeats the purpose of seeing how a character does as a different class with the same stats and growths which is what intrigues me in the first place. Also, the effort needed to pull that off scares me :(
  15. Hello, Ephraim225. I noticed that you didn't have any profile comments, so I thought I'd be the first to leave one to be nice! Welp, see ya!
