Quick question. I'm up to Chapter 18, bough a bunch of Iron weapons without the Silver card, and I still feel uncomfortable economy-wise.

Please tell me it's not possible to screw myself up this way, so far it looks like I'm going for a true ending.

    R.I.P. Chapter 21 Boots.

If you're playing the game casually, there are a lot of valuables that you can obtain in Chapter 20, though some of the items you'd need to steal. Also if you hate yourself and really tight on cash, you could bring a thief to Chapter 21 and attempt to steal Murdock's Knight's Crest.

If you're feeling tight on cash, I'd highly recommend selling the Eclipse tomes you get. They go for 2,000 each (more than the cost of buying a Killing Edge), and it's a really worthless tome. If you're in Ilia you get one in Niime's inventory and in Sacae you may have gotten an additional one from the village in Chapter 17. Also, if you haven't used it already, you also get a Goddess Icon that sells for 4,000.

While buying a bunch of Iron Weapons this late into the game is certainly questionable, I'd say you're probably fine.

Being more accustomed to rating the characters without their recruitment costs I don't have too much input on the list overall, though on its own terms I'd contest at least Shiida's and Tomas' placements.

Silver lance (being just a heavier and less accurate silver sword) doesn't net Shiida any ORKOs other units couldn't easily reach. Doubling thresholds are lenient enough to the point that her speed won't give her a distinctive advantage and the low strength starts to show; promotion by C19 at the earliest is a bit too late to really remedy her issues.

The thing with Shiida in non-full recruitment LTC is that she's likely going to be your only flier. Recruiting Minerva, Paola, and Katua wastes turns and you're probably going to Warp-skip Chapter 18, not that you'd be using Est anyway. While I'd agree she's not as good of a raw combat unit as Abel, Hardin, or even Cain, she's certainly usable, especially with Silver Lance, and with flier utility I'd say she's still a solid top-tier.

This is the one game where Tomas can actually be really good, given just two level ups and the C12 bolt to cash in on those delicious Sniper bases. That means decent combat in general, capacity to ORKO all enemy Dracoknights and tasty riverwalk capabilities. Mid tier hosts a few others with more questionable utility.

Agreed. Tomas also has the added benefit of being one of two viable Partia users, and Wolf is by no means irreplaceable. My issue with Tomas is that he has pretty late availability and though it's very easy to get him to Sniper, he still has to deal with two levels of being an Archer in the game where they (arguably) suck the most.

I'm curious as to who in Mid Tier you consider to have questionable utility.

  3. I decided to post an FE1 tier list because I tended to disagree with what I found on the web. A few things of note:

Firstly, this is a LTC/Draft tier list. When playing the game casually, certain units get a lot better and certain units get a lot worse. FE1 is a really easy game so you could theoretically use anyone you wanted to, but for LTC/Draft it gets a little more complicated.

In addition, this tier list does not take into account full recruitment LTCs. As such, I do penalize units for wasting turns to recruit.

    Pantsless Tier:

    1. Marth

    Top Tier:

    2. Rena (Lena)

    3. Sheeda (Caeda)

    4. Abel

    5. Hardin

    6. Wendell

    7. Cain

    8. Merric

    9. Boha

    High Tier:

    10. Julian

    11. Ricardo (Rickard)

    12. Jagen

    13. Oguma

    14. Navarre

    15. Barts (Barst)

    Mid Tier:

    16. Wolf

    17. Roshe

    18. Kashim (Castor)

    19. Maji (Cord)

    20. Midia

    21. Astram

    22. Fresh squeezed bench juice Matthis

    23. Doga (Draug)

    24. Saji (Bord)

    25. Thomas (Tomas)

    26. Chainy (Xane)

    Low Tier:

    27. Radd

    28. Caesar

    29. Gordin

    30. Maria

    31. Minerva

    32. Biraku (Vyland)

    33. Zagaro (Sedgar)

    37. Darros

    38. Dolph

    39. Macellan

    40. Roger

    41. Bantu

    42. Tiki

    Complete Waste of Time Tier:

    43. Riff (Wrys)

    44. Beck

    45. Paola (Palla)

    46. Samson

    47. Arran

    48. Katua (Catria)

    49. Linde

    50. Jake

    51. Est

    52. Jeorge

Feel free to discuss placement below.

  4. I'm probably the only one here with this opinion, but I absolutely LOVE FE1. Yeah, the interface is really clunky and unit balance is not a thing (Saji is literally strictly worse than Barts in every way, WHY?), but the reason why I like FE1 so much is it's map design.

FE1 has some of the best maps in the franchise imo, my personal favorite being Champions of Orleans where you have to juggle between protecting Hardin and the Wolfguard, stopping two thieves from destroying a village, and recruiting Wendell. Also shoutouts to Oasis of Magic for being the only Desert map in the franchise that doesn't suck.

Plus, FE1 is both pretty easy and relatively short so you have liberty to use basically anyone you want. I use Daros on literally every one of my playthroughs and sometimes he turns out pretty good.

If you want the true FE1 experience, I'd recommend playing the game as intended: ironman. The game's still pretty easy, even if you do lose some of your best units and it allows you to use some unconventional picks. Roshe, Radd, and Caesar may not be as good as Abel, Navarre, and Ogma, but they can do some work.

  5. Wow... I was not expecting this good of feedback... Thanks for all of your suggestions.

Sorry that I used wonky translations, I play a lot of the old TCG and that's how they're translated there. Old habits die hard I guess...

I originally was going to try to stick to Mono-Red just because I figured one color would make things easier to understand, but now I see the obvious holes that a deck like this runs into. While I thought the idea of running Mist could've been fun because it probably wouldn't be hard to hit a 4 stack with how many copies of Navarre and Samto I'm running, I think a White splash is more along the lines of what I was trying to do.

Based on your suggestions, this is what I came up with:

    Decklist:

I'm not sure how much of an improvement this second deck is, but hopefully it's not as bad as my first deck allegedly was. If there's anything else that could be done to fix this one, I'd greatly appreciate the advice.

  6.      After playing a lot of the old Fire Emblem Trading Card Game, I decided to start learning how to play Fire Emblem Cipher and wanted to build a casual deck to get into the game. However I'm a complete n00b and have very little idea of what I'm doing.

I wanted to build a deck based around Samto who is one of my favorite characters in the franchise and I thought the fact that you can have Navarre transform into Samto was a really cool ability (even if Samto's card itself is pretty weak).

This is what I came up with, any suggestions would be much appreciated.

    Decklist (old version)

    Spoiler

x1 - Scarlet Swordsman, Navarre (MU)

x4 - Blood Sword Wielder, Navarre

x4 - Scarlet Death God, Navarre

    x4 - Navarre Impersonator, Samto

x4 - Wielder of the Killing Edge, Samto

x4 - Prince of Rigel, Alm

    x2 - War Lady, Clair

x4 - Princess of Talys, Caeda

x4 - Student of Wendel, Marich

    x4 - Aritian Archer, Gordin

    x4 - Steel Swordsman, Oguma

x4 - Heir of Aura, Linda

    x4 - Innocent Priestess, Maria

    x4 - Radiant Hero-King, Marth

    Decklist (version 2)

Because Navarre can promote so many times thanks to Samto, I tried to build a deck based around getting critical hits. The idea is to use Navarre in the earlygame, promote him into either Navarre promotion, expend a bunch of Navarre cards on critical hits and evasion, then promote Navarre to Samto and finish the game with him.

I use cards like Prince of Rigel, Alm and Heir of Aura, Linda so that I can draw into Navarre/Samto cards and Innocent Priestess, Maria lets me reuse the ones I've expended. The rest of the deck is meant to support Navarre/Samto.

I know this deck in it's current form is probably pretty bad seeing how its the first (and only) Cipher deck I've ever built. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

  7. Hey y'all. Thanks for responding!

I think I went into my second playthrough with the wrong mindset expecting to hate the game again rather than giving it its fair shot. All your feedback has helped me view the game in somewhat of a different light and I hope that I can find just as much enjoyment as the lot of you have.

I'm sorry if this post came across as "I hate this game so everyone else should." It's just that I never understood this game's cult following until now. Understand that if this is your favorite Fire Emblem I have no animosity towards you and I'm glad that you were able to get so much enjoyment out of it.

    “But what about you?”

    Fergus:
“Probably we’ll get captured again. But I don’t mind as long as you’re able to escape.”

    Leaf:
“I can’t do that! When I escape, so does everyone else!”

I didn't notice that in the script... Guess when I was playing I was so used to Radiant Dawn escape maps that I just figured it worked the same.

  8. I recently started my second playthrough of Fire Emblem: Thracia 776. To put it gently, I don't think the game is very fun.

The new mechanics (Fog of War, Capturing, Fatigue, Dismount), while adding additional complexity, are designed to put the player at a disadvantage and don't enhance the overall enjoyment of the experience. The maps are also riddled with beginners traps, most infamously in Chapter 4 where the game doesn't tell you that if Leif escapes first, the entire rest of your army dies instantly.

This is normally where the characters make up for things, but FE5 has among the least developed casts in the entire series. A lot of characters just don't have any more dialogue after they're recruited which makes the cast feel bland.

However, despite this, most people who have played FE5 really seem to like it. When it comes to worst games in the franchise, most people usually talk about FE1, FE6, FE11, or FE13 and Thracia usually doesn't receive too much hate. I'm just wondering what it is that makes FE5 such a good game to so many people.
