  1. And the funniest part is that there's already a horror movie and video game coming soon. I know stuff like that is planned way in advance to capitalize on the news (the same was done with Winnie the Pooh, after all), but it's hard not to find it somewhat comical, especially since horror is always the first thing to be done with it. About the scariest thing (and this is not even mildly scary) done with Mickey Mouse in (my) recent memory is Epic Mickey from over a decade ago. It'll never happen, but I'd love to see a rerelease of that game.
  2. There was a really good pairing planner that I loved to use and recommend, and it's still technically around on the Wayback Machine, but there's a calculator that's just as good and is actually still operational. I'd play around with one of those if you haven't already at some point; they're extremely helpful. As for recommendations, if you're planning on recruiting everyone (and assuming you don't have Anna, who isn't available anymore because Nintendo), M!Corrin's best option in Birthright is Scarlet, Flora in Conquest (who's the only option, lol), and Reina in Revelations (who's effectively the only option because Flora comes too late to really be viable, "plot" happens, and Nintendo). As for F!Corrin, you can pair her with just about anyone based on your personal preferences and the kids will more or less be fine. You'll miss out on pairing one of the other female units, but it's really not that big of a loss. If you don't care about magic, +Spd/-Mag with Laslow theoretically isn't a bad idea. I know luck is usually considered the "dump" stat a lot of the time, but Kana and Soleil won't have magic with Laslow as their father regardless, and their luck may not actually be too terrible. Talent is up to you, but you can never go wrong with Wyvern Riders (Dragon). Just throwing some ideas out there.
  3. If DLC counts, then I would say Future Redeemed. It puts together everything I love about Xenoblade and wraps everything up in a neat little bow. There isn't anything negative I can really say; it was short, but it was a full experience. As for "full" games, I would have to say Engage and Tears of the Kingdom... but only because I didn't really play a whole lot of other "new" games.
  4. I would like to start exercising a little more, for starters. I know that's a common one that not a lot of people stick to, but we'll see how it pans out. Second, I'd like to write a complete story that I've had in mind for a couple of years now, but never had the motivation to really tackle. I think this year would be a good time to start it since a lot of the plot points I have in mind have evolved beyond what I initially came up with. Those are my two big goals that I'd like to achieve, if I can.
  5. There's something I really love about stories or games that have that generational aspect to them. Not as in, "Oh, I used to play that game as a kid and now my son is playing a new game in that series!" but more like a passing of the torch from entry to entry kinda thing. In my mind, Castlevania and The Legend of Zelda are the perfect examples of that (in both ways, lol), which is partly why they're my two all-time favorite video game franchises. I can pretty easily point to them as my quintessential video games. Great gameplay, phenomenal music, and enough lore and untapped potential to keep people interested for years after they've been past their prime.
  6. I actually took a drawing class this past semester. I don't wanna preach, but if you don't have one already, definitely get a sketchbook. You can also find plenty of tutorials online, but a good starting point to would be to sketch out objects as you see them, a couple things here and there every so often to get a feel for it. And then, I dunno, draw the rest of the owl or whatever. but with a remake we can get Al
  7. Happy New Year! I wish you all the best. I know resolutions don't tend to stick for most people, but do you all have any ideas you'd like to at least try?
  8. From what the trailer showed, I think "Action-Adventure" is applicable enough, but we probably haven't seen everything the game has on offer. If you're hesitant about getting it, I'd wait for a review and see what they have to say regarding gameplay and mechanics.
  9. Well, let's see... I'll start with the obvious; my first Fire Emblem game was Blazing Blade, but I'd say SoV or PoR are my favorites. My first Zelda game was technically Four Swords, and then Ocarina of Time right after that, so I usually say OoT was the first real game I played in the series... not to say Four Swords is bad, but OoT kinda stole the thunder after that for me. For my favorite series, Castlevania, the first one I played was the original and I binged through the rest of the series from there. Bloodlines is my favorite of the classic style (with ReBirth in a close second if not tied), and Portrait of Ruin is my favorite of the Metroidvania style. As far as Halo goes, the first game I had any exposure to was Reach at a friend's house. The first one I actually got around to playing on my own was Combat Evolved in MCC, but Halo 2 is my pick for favorite. For Need for Speed, the first one I played was Carbon. That's probably still my favorite, but I'm sure nostalgia has a lot to do with that. For Xenoblade, X was the first one I actually played, but 3 is probably my favorite. I could probably go on, but generally, it seems like the first game in a series I play doesn't tend to stick if I play other games.
  10. Well, if you wanna go absolute worst case, there would be no banner and the game shuts down. Next worst scenario would be the 3H Lords and Byleth again right after their Christmas alts. STOP POSTING ABOUT 3H. I'M TIRED OF SEEING THEM None of that would realistically happen, of course. Seiðr is guaranteed to be on the banner, at the very least (probably as a trio unit like the young Whitewing sisters). The only characters that have shown up for New Years outside of Heroes' OCs are from Radiant Dawn(/Path of Radiance), Awakening, and Fates, which also (correct me if I'm wrong) have been the only titles to pull beast units from (no, I'm not counting F!Edelgard). However, if what @Tybrosion mentioned turns out to be true, then you can expect New Years Tiki in a worst case scenario. Given Fates' track record with New Years banners, though, I'm inclined to believe Kana might show up.
  11. I would tentatively agree with you on that; in New Mystery, Awakening, and Fates, I think it's fine since the avatar is fully customizable, and you still have the option of going with the canon name and appearance (which is what I personally do anyway). Three Houses and Engage have more "story-involved" avatars, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. The way I see it, it's like being able to name Link (and Epona in Twilight Princess) whatever you want in older Zelda titles. It's just an option to make the player feel a little more connected to the main character that they're playing as, if that's what they want to do (or to make a funny name). Byleth and Alear are counted among avatars since they more or less follow the trend that's been set since New Mystery (barring Shadows of Valentia).
  12. Hey, this is neat! If I could make a suggestion to help out with the spacing in Njörun, maybe you could snip off the bottom right swoop of the N (assuming you keep the letter J as it is)? That might also help bring some of the other names starting with N closer together. Do you have any other sprite work that you're thinking of doing?
  13. I'd be down. So it's basically like how you play Mafia in real life, but online? I might need a quick explanation of how it'll go, if that's alright.
  14. Yeah, I getcha. It's just frustrating cuz it's Claude again using his standard weapon type.
  15. From the silhouette teaser, I saw people mention elsewhere that Balthus might have been the bow-wielding unit... but man, turns out it was just cope; why would Balthus use a bow anyway? I think Yunaka is perfectly fine as a character addition, but it's just the House Leaders and Byleth(s) again otherwise (and for a moment I thought, "Wait, doesn't Byleth already have a Christmas alt? No, that was Halloween Sothis").
  16. This is gonna sound dumb, but maybe it has to do with training? Marth's a prince, so it he probably would have been taught how to effectively use it given it's fancier style, and Phina's a dancer, so she would have enough precision and grace to wield it as effectively as Marth can. Of course, that probably wouldn't explain why literally no one else can use it (the royalty explanation is probably the next best thing), but I digress.
  17. This can be further backed up by Tyrfing's Awakening design, which is suspiciously akin to that of Falchion's Awakening design. DS Shadow Dragon's Falchion is also reminiscent of Leif's Light Brand, too. Now I'm curious how many other Legendary weapons look like each other?
  18. YOU GET A FALCHION YOU GET A FALCHION EVERYONE GETS A FALCHION It wouldn't be too farfetched to guess that they may have the same "artificially made" status like Aymr, being made to replicate the original weapons in corrupted forms. After all, Nemesis was resurrected by TWSiTD, who may or may not have been the ones to forge Aymr (but they probably were). If they can make a weapon specifically for Edelgard, it would absolutely be within their power to create Dark Heroes' Relics for the other elites. That's a great term for that, actually. I hate to keep using Falchion as an example, but it can technically fall into that "family" weapon category since it's only ever used within Marth's family (and Alm's, too)... or whoever has an Emblem Ring, lol. Also, would you be able to explain "edge cases"? From your OP, I figured weapons like the Three Regalia could be edge cases since, while they're still technically legendary, I think there can be multiple in existence (or that can be forged into existence), which would kinda ruin that "one-of-a-kind" quality they have, not to mention almost anyone can use them. I could be entirely off the mark and completely wrong, though; I guess they're legendary in status, but maybe not so much in nature?
  19. A common thread among legendary weapons, which is kinda obvious, is that they're usually one-of-a-kind. Of course... there are exceptions to this like Falchion, which has a twin in the Valentian Falchion (there's also the Parallel Falchion that Lucina brings with her from the future, so you could make an argument that there are at least three distinct Falchions), as well as Ragnell and Alondite since, while technically entirely separate entities, they are functionally identical. There are also weapons that share a name, but are different in function or form. For instance, there's the tome Mjölnir from Jugdral, and the axe Mjölnir in Thórr's possession in Heroes (which both possess lightning properties, so they're not that different, but one is a book and the other can chop wood). They're essentially just different forms of the same weapon; that is to say, they're separate entities, but represent the same weapon from different worlds, kinda like how there's different Spider-Men or Batmen across different continuities, but they're all still Spider-Man and Batman in their respective worlds. Aside from all of that, if a certain legendary weapon shows up in a particular game, chances are it's the only one in existence... typically. I think there's also a distinction to make between Legendary and Personal weapons, as well (even if it isn't necessary, but I'm gonna mention it anyway). A lot of the time, Legendary weapons end up being personal weapons for certain units, but like with Radiant Dawn or Three Houses as mentioned in the OP, that's not always the case. Personal weapons also aren't always Legendary, either, despite what Hector's Wolf Beil or Marth's Rapier might initially lead you to believe. To add onto Exhibit J, FE4 also has a unique situation where certain Legendary weapons can end up being wielded by multiple characters. For instance, a weapon like Tyrfing is technically Sigurd's Personal weapon, but it also ends up being Seliph's Personal weapon later on as the weapon isn't necessarily tied to either character, but rather that they meet the criteria to wield it through having Major Baldr Holy Blood, which functionally makes Tyrfing their Personal weapon. Balmung is kinda funky, though; Shannan is meant to be the sole wielder of it, but if Larcei and Scáthach's father is Chulainn, they end up inheriting Major Od Holy Blood, meaning they can wield Balmung just like Shannan can, assuming the player means to trade it over. I think that's about all I wanna mention without this getting too long. I'd love to talk about "edge cases," but I'll leave that open for now.
  20. New book music is a banger as always, and Anna has a 3D model. I forgot the last time she was ever used, if at all. It's nice to see Inigo as a demote; I might actually have a viable chance at building him up to +10. Maybe. I hope.
  21. I don't expect to see much of anything I'd be too interested in, but I'll throw out a suggestion for something Castlevania as I desperately cling onto the sliver of hope that the animated series garners enough interest for that. Maybe a follow-up to last year's Transformers game announcement, though I kinda doubt it.
  22. Yeah, that's about what I expected. I really can't keep up with all these new metas anymore. Poison Strike upgrade looks nice, though.
  23. As this is a Fire Emblem forum, I'm inclined to go with that, but I'd feel remiss if I didn't say Team Fortress 2. Valve trolls us enough as it is, so it would be a courtesy to do so in kind... but there are also plenty of other people that already troll consistently for TF2, so I don't think it'll ever be necessary for me, lol.
  24. I think a lot of SoV's gameplay criticisms stem from it being almost faithful to a fault, which is about what I'd expect from a remake anyway. Yeah, they took infinite warp away from the player, but at least we have a new unit that can refresh once she hits level 14 depending on if you picked the right class for her! Oh, and the turnwheel! That's not a bad addition, imo, but I remember a lot of players making it out to be the death of classic FE. That's kinda how it is with some of the older titles; not everyone gets the chance to be as fleshed out as others, especially with a game (Gaiden) originally designed around the idea that not everyone is going to survive. SoV mitigates it that somewhat with GBA-style supports and other story/character additions, but I can see how it might not seem like enough given what Awakening and Fates offered in that regard. I don't think he's meant to be useless; he's only weak compared to the rest of Celica's army since by that point they'll more than capable without him. He can't exactly carve out a place for himself unless your units are weak or dead. He's almost a Gotoh, but not really. That's lowkey a trademark of the series. You can relate nearly every final boss to a dragon in some way, shape, or form. Not at all. I'd argue it's at least one of the best games in the series, but that may be my early 2000s bias showing. Frederick Fazbear?
