  1. After 200+ hours, I'd seen just about every level of stupidity that game had to offer by the time I finally lost the game chip. Between that game, Fire Emblem, and Civilization, I've learned to never underestimate the cruelty of an RNG.
  2. I've heard good things about that one and liked the demo, but I don't ever see it go on sale. I hardly ever buy games on sale, I'm way too stingy. Yes! The one DQ game that I played to the very end was IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies. That crap got really frustrating. Iirc, one of my dudes had a skill that blocked the enemy from running so I had to bring him along for some of the "defeat X" quests, especially the ones with metal slimes.
  3. Hi there! I play games across a lot of genres, everything from Fallout to Tony Hawk to Stardew Valley. Right now, the non-FE games I've been playing the most are: Morrowind Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel Mass Effect 3 Dragon Quest VIII Madden 18 I'm also super into Elder Scrolls Lore and have been making art and stories based on my most recent Skyrim playthrough. My character has a Tumblr and everything because I have a lot of free time right now. How about you, what have you been playing? I'm a little sad to hear that she doesn't have a big following! Yes, I also wish there were more supports. It would have been fun to see her interactions with Orochi or Kagero...they could have reminisced about serving Queen Mikoto or something.
  4. Thanks for the warm welcome everyone, and Merry Christmas! Just thinking about that last mission at the Black Gate is enough to make me curse out loud at the RNG...Frodo always took his sweet time destroying the ring and all my units would die in the meantime. I am a Reina fan; she's my favorite Fates character so far! I like the Kinshi Knight class to begin with, and Reina owns it! I enjoyed her supports with the avatar and how they showed her tendency to soften in demeanor when she's off the battlefield.
  5. I sure do! Aside from my humble amiibo collection, I've got quite a few figures from comic books, video games, movies, and WWE. I'd love to post a picture of them all, but I'm in the process of moving and packed most of them up a few weeks ago. Unfortunately, I broke one of my nicer ones in the process, Leviathan from final fantasy, but I might end up replacing it. My favorite figure is my elven warrior from the prologue of Lord of the Rings, and the figure I bought most recently was Becky Lynch from Smackdown.
  6. I like pairing Lissa with Frederick because they're both available from the beginning and I like to think she's been (maybe not so) secretly admiring him all these years. I also like how Frederick!Owain turns out, including unit-wise. Next playthrough I'll be pairing up Lissa with someone different to shake things up; I'm thinking Lissa x Donnel would be cute and produce an interesting Owain.
  7. I'm a big fan of permadeath; it teaches good habits even on normal. I played my first FE game (Awakening) in normal/casual mode and picked up all kinds of terrible habits like spreading my units too thin. If they died, no great loss. When I started a new game in hard/casual, I got destroyed because I would never have enough units left by the end of a map. Playing in normal/classic helped me bridge that gap by forcing me to put value on every move and now I play Awakening on hard/classic. I would definitely keep casual mode as an option, but I would discourage new players form using it unless they care about the story more than gameplay. As for improvements, I wish that death was acknowledged off the battlefield as others have said. As it is, the only thing that happens when a unit dies is they're not usable. If there were other changes resulting from unit death, even aside from gameplay, I might feel more inclined to accept the consequences of my mistakes and let a character die once in a while instead of resetting.
  8. Dandy, I see your Yee Haw and raise you one Boy Howdy! I come from a rural area, I think that's part of why I like Donny so much. He reminds me of some of the boys I knew growing up!
  9. I'm not going to say lose weight because method-wise that's too vague for me to bother to take action. But I do think it's reasonable to try to improve my eating habits and cut my sugar intake. I'll be going into a new job soon, so that's a perfect opportunity to develop some good work habits, too. In the next year I'd like to have better posture and take more stretch breaks when I'm at the computer to prevent repetitive motion injuries. Finally, in the coming year, I would love to finish both Birthright and Conquest, and maybe beat Awakening on Hard/Classic.
  10. Thanks Captain, and I'll keep that in mind. I can usually see past crummy stories if the characters are memorable enough. I'm probably going to do normal/classic like I did for Birthright; I'm anticipating it being just the right level of challenging for me!
  11. Hello there fellow FE fans! Thought I'd take a moment to introduce myself. My name's Des, and I figured I'd make an account since I lurk here so much. I got into the series a few years ago when a friend saw me playing Lord of the Rings: The Third Age on my Game Boy Advance. She was so right when she said I would like Fire Emblem; since then I've beat Awakening and started both Sacred Stones and Birthright. I'm waiting for my download of Conquest to finish as I type this. I play the games for the story, but I find few things in life as satisfying as cooking up a crazy strategies and seeing if they work out the way I imagine. Some of my FE Favorites (based on the games I've played thus far): Game: FE 13 Character: Donnel (but Eirika is a close second) Boss: Candace Class: Kinshi Knight Weapon: Levin Sword Item: Boots I've been playing video games since before I could read, so they're kind of part of my identity at this point. In terms of favorite series, Fire Emblem is second only to the Elder Scrolls. As for real life...I recently graduated from college with a BA in economics and am eager to start my new job as a data analyst in the next month or so. Happy Holidays everybody! I can't wait to get involved in the forums here!
