  1. Bumping this topic, and also, if anyone has any feedback or suggestions on my first rom-hack/mini-project, I'd appreciate it. I know there isn't a lot of changes aside from the character growth rates and base stats, but I'm still very new to the world of rom-hacking. When I get more time in the coming month or so (been busy with school and life currently), I will be learning more in the world of rom-hacking.
  2. Unfortunately, no. This patch only increases all (or just about all) character's base stats and growth rates to make them more viable and there currently isn't anything beyond those changes. My original intention is to make FE6 easier as a whole while retaining as much of the game's elements and other features as vanilla. I may consider doing other changes into the patch in the future when I learn more about ROM hacking and get better at it.
  3. Looks good and I like your custom graphics and sprites as well as the descriptions of the characters. I am a bit busy right now, but will play it sometime soon.
  4. Yes, I believe so. I started off with the original vanilla FE6 game, then edited it. This was while the game was still in Japanese. After my edits, I used gringe's patch over my edits. Finally, after that, I created my own patch after the translations. I'm still pretty new to patching and patching over a patched rom, so it could get a bit confusing at times. Also, sorry about having it in the wrong subforum and thanks for putting it in the right section.
  5. Hey this is Milanor here and finally, I have my first, albeit small, FE project out! I've borrowed gringe's FE localization patch in order to get the translation of the game, but most of the gameplay mechanics, and features are the same (basically vanilla FE6), the only differences are that every character's base stats and growth rates have been buffed. My inspiration for doing this is that I figured FE6 was quite punishing towards new players of the Fire Emblem series, but not only that, I wanted to make just about all the units viable and allow people to be able to use just about every unit and have an easier time with the game. I myself have played through FE6 (over a decade or more ago) and I just didn't like the unforgiving aspects of it, particularly the difficulty at the beginning of the game, midgame, and late game, so having better bases and growths will then make units that are nearly useless at least see some usefulness and the characters that are already good won't receive much of a boost. Milanor's FE6 Easier Mode Let me know what you guys think of it, I will be playing through the game myself and trying different characters on each run. If there are any bugs, errors, or oversights, feel free to post here. Also, any feedback, suggestions, and constructive criticism is appreciated!
  6. Thanks primefusion, I will go and do that and will let you know if I have any problems while doing so. :)
  7. Hi Milanor here, I'm new to the rom hacking community and I'm trying to figure out how to create a completely new ups patch file from a clean rom and an hex editor. My first mini project would be to create an easy mode of fe6, from the original vanilla version of the game. I have the original fresh copy of FE6, and I plan to use the nightmare editor to modify all the character's bases and growths (essentially buff them), and then creating a patch on that. The program that I'm using is NUPS which should create ups files, however, when I go to create a patch, it asks for the original file, edited file, and then the New UPS file. I'm confused about what it means since I've already have a fresh copy. Does this mean that I would first have two fresh copies of FE6 (respectively A and B where B is the edited file), then edit the B file with nightmare, then after making the changes to B, create a patch from both files A and B? Then the next issue I have is that since the game is only released in Japan and no English version of the game exists (except for fan translation patches), I have to find a way to get the translate the text and menu items. I'm thinking of either two choices: A) Use an old translation patch that already exists from 2006 or whenever (I will make sure to have permission from them as well as credit them), then apply it to my newly created patch? In other words, I don't know if I can tack on a existing patch to another existing patch together? Or what about applying two different patches to the same rom? (One is a translation patch and the other one is the modified base/growth rates patch.) B) Rewrite the entire game script (which includes the menu items, item descriptions, character texts, and all of that) which is A LOT of work for just a mini project. Let me know how I should go about doing these things and I hope this isn't too much for someone who is still a newbie in the world of rom hacking. I also hope I did not sound too confusing as my wording can be awkward at times. -Milanor
  8. Hey YouSquid, thanks for the welcome! :) Hi Eclipse, yes I will. Also to answer your question, yes he is one of the main characters from the game, Yggdra Union.
  9. Hey everyone, I'm Milanor, or Mila, whichever you want to refer to me as. Anyways, here is some background info about me. I'm a graduate student studying software engineering and I've first been introduced to the Fire Emblem series over a decade ago, back when Sacred Stones first came out. One of my friends told me about it and after seeing him play it, I got interested in learning how to play an RTS game or tactical strategy game of the kind. On my first time, I was really bad at the series and didn't really understand strategy or grasped the concept itself. I remember sending Seth, the main pre-promo unit just slaughtering all the enemies including the boss and not training my lords (Eirika and Ephraim) at all. I couldn't finish the run at all, and it wasn't until I've played Fire Emblem - Blazing Sword that I've learned how to properly play an RTS. Over the years, I've watched LPers, tried strategies all around, as well hints and tips from all over the Internet and became proficient at the Fire Emblem series. I consider myself a highly experienced player of the Fire Emblem series, but not somewhere around the expert level (I tend to avoid hard mode mainly because it's quite tedious and of course, difficult.) - in other words, I'm more of a casual player. Anyways, I found out about Serenes Forest many years ago (probably as far back as 2010), but never really thought about joining until now. I've played through many fire emblem games, mainly the GBA series and Geneology of the Holy War (FE4). My favorite FE game based on the ones I've played is Sacred Stones, mainly because of the usefulness of almost all the characters, the difficulty is friendly to newcomers (at least in Normal Mode), has a overworld map (really like that), has places to grind (newbie friendly) such as the Tower and Ruins, and finally, lots of usability between character classes (each character can choose to promote to either one of two classes), pairings, and gives you a lot of leeway in the late game. As of now, apart from school and IRL stuff, I'm interested in getting my foot in the door towards fire emblem rom hacking, starting from the most basic level. I've played Blazer's FE rom hack "The Last Promise" and it was very enjoyable indeed. After playing through his rom hack, and seeing the additional part of the Fire Emblem community here, I'm inspired to create an easier mode for FE6, which would be me gateway into the FE rom hacking world. Feel free to ask me anything else you want to know about me. -Milanor
