  1. Honestly, I liked the two I've played thus far. But then again... I did cheat enough to look at what the map looks like on the wiki. Also recruitment methods. But right now that's kind of about all I know for sure. Save states are off the table because I'm working off a cartridge. So far my worst incident was forgetting how enemies can capture units with no weapons in chapter 4. Possibly because it was the first time it was relevant.
  2. As I said "play with". It's more the "messing around using a fragile thief to steal a sword knowing there's probably a bunch more enemies in the shadows" that bugs me than the map's challenges itself. That and the amount of screwing around it'd be.
  3. Good to know I'm not the only one who didn't realize. I was kind of out of the place by turn 15 and only found out because I decided to have a look at the wiki for some idea of when I'd be getting more swords. Turns out... they start spawning from the south staircase on turn 12... with iron swords I could have actually stolen as opposed to capturing due to Lifis actually getting a point of con. But then again... reinforcements in an escape map with fog of war doesn't sound fun to play with even for weapons that I could need later.
  4. So questioning anyone who has more knowledge of the situation than me, playing Thracia 776... how screwed am I if I didn't wait around at the end of chapter 4x to steal some new swords off the myrmidon reinforcements that apparently appear? Should I be going back to the save before the chapter to redo it and steal some swords? Or should I be fine to hold out through the next so long until I get another shot at some? I think the biggest consolation I have is the fact I apparently didn't need it. But then... that's not a surprise. Obviously people beat the game who weren't me, and it obviously didn't function for them either.
  5. I've read that's what it was supposed to be... it's just not functional in the SNES version of YS III. I've heard it works on the Genesis (Sega does what Nintendon't jokes write themselves), but I can't confirm it. All I know is I wished it was functional at times.
  6. That's the remake of Ys III isn't it? I played Ys III at the tail end of last year. Only game in the series I actually own... and I've had it since I was in the third grade and bought it. For $2 according to the price tag. I imagine it's gotta be a much improved version over the one I played. Because I recall there being an item called the fairy necklace... that did nothing. And cost a ton to buy. I can't imagine that not being fixed in a remake.
  7. Enough to justify it given his brother's not exactly stellar either. And as said, he's better at funding himself.
  8. You've not been to the third one yet have you? I personally quite like the locations. The section where you go through the butcher shop in Ye Olde London Street is great. I do wish that the locations didn't all just get a variant with the same setpieces later though. Yeah but he also gets Julia the Nosferatu tome without any screwing around letting castles get seized. Which when you consider the fact she probably contributes more than either of them... kind of helped make my choice.
  9. The unit I'm finding funny to use is Johalvier. He's got a 10% speed growth, no pursuit, and lacking movement. Though his strength and defense are really good. I know he's the worse pick because no horse. But I want to use the bad one.
  10. Oh crap. I got to stop assuming people finished the games they mention. I also found Sigurd a bit over-rated. You always hear how he can solo the first generation.. and while I have no doubt he can, I came to the conclusion it's be very, very tedious. Guy kept not getting used on chapters like two and three because of the fact he had to seize, so I could set up the rest of the army somewhere before he seized and they'd be done before he got to the objective. Eldigan's cross knights fell before Sigurd was anywhere near, even with the return band. Reptor was dead and the battle over before Sigurd could cross the desert. Sigurd was good, don't get me wrong. He had capped strength, skill and speed, 62hp, and 19 defense. But end of the day I was getting more use out of Lex because he didn't have to seize and thus could be wherever I needed him to be (like guarding a castle at the other end of the map), and paragon let him still hit max level. It reminds me of the classic Ike versus Keiran argument, with "enough" being suitable compared to "overkill". Plus Lex totally capped defense in chapter 2. Sigurd's performance was more consistent, because Lex was kind of lacklustre until he got the brave axe. But damned if I didn't get some use out of Lex.
  11. But the final boss is literally an Omega Metroid. Which is the "directly".
  12. Yeah, but even Fusion specifically requires you kill Metroids, both directly and indirectly to complete the game. So hard not to think of it that way. Hell even Other M where she won't shut up about the baby Metroid's death... also has her killing it's clones. Something about dangerous alien parasites that look kind of like jellyfish just seems to lead to Samus killing them.
  13. But isn't that the overall goal of Samus when you think about it? Neither does my experience with my niece. But her mother's is a different story. Also welcome back. Huh. That's weird. After the whole Lionel Hutz references relating to a certain minor villain in Three Houses I could've sworn you'd have known more. Go figure.
  14. I can't tell if you want the copypasta about the sign in one episode of the Simpsons, or if this is more sarcasm.
  15. Could be worse. It could have a store that was formerly Chuck's. All the same now I feel like someone must when you point out a Rick and Morty joke isn't as obscure as they assume it was.
  16. There's also a boss that makes use of the partner mechanic, and basically there's a trick to beating the boss without hassle. The joke is that by reacting that way to being called a child, she proves she is in fact immature.
  17. Yes from an aesthetic point. The character designs can be pretty damn anime. The gameplay in Portrait of Ruin is really good though. Moreso if you enjoy the sidequests (which I actually do mostly, though the "level this subweapon fully" ones can be a bit grindy). Enemy design is pretty top notch. Locations are really good (you're not just exploring the castle). The weapon variety is great, as is the subweapon variety. I really like Portrait of Ruin. Though that could be bias from it being related to Bloodlines, which was one of my first games in the series. Or killed the inventor then used the technology
  18. Yes. It's a little known loophole used to get away with murder in Fire Emblem Fates. First, you clone yourself. Then you kill a guy. Then you S-support the clone. Now your bloodline is different to the clone's, so any DNA at the crime-scene is traced back to the clone as it has your original DNA. The clone gets arrested, and you go free. Peri has done this 26 times
  19. You know, I took a break because I thought Gen 2 was going to slow down Genealogy by being back to unpromoted units.. but the combination of inheritance and improved growths just makes things feel off. Like I got to the first Arena of Gen 2 and everyone cleared it (well everyone who's in the castle. Shanan, Patty, Leif, Nanna and Finn aren't able to do it because the allied Leonster castle apparently doesn't have it, which is a shame because Finn would totally dominate it because he has 27 strength and a brave lance)
  20. These days I just keep a save file from the end of a run before the start of chapter 11 and just make a copy which I start from if I want to play Fe7 with Lyn mode done... and Nils at level 7. If you think about it.. that does make it hard to play... just not in the intended way. Kind of like the Yied desert in FE4. You know by the time I got Sigurd through it, Reptor and his goons were already dead? He got to use Tyrfing in literally one fight all generation 1. 1 damn fight. I paid 50,000 for a weapon that I didn't even really get to use.
  21. There's something to say about the fact that I know a few people who were put off entirely from the series because their first encounter with it was Lyn Mode. I should note, given the fact I got bored and didn't give the series a second chance for four years... I was very close to being one of them. Because the enemies on the higher difficulties prioritize staying alive over doing damage.... which always turns out painful. No exceptions. Who wants to spend turn after turn chasing down an enemy while they run away to heal?
  22. The image only gets funnier when you think about his promotion. Good luck with your travels,
  23. In Fire Emblem terms it's be a lot like not recognizing a harbour. Or maybe a stable. Then again...
  24. Fallen Edelgard cloned a guy, made the clone kill a dude, and framed the original for murder so none of his friends would talk to him anymore.
