  1. Figure out what constitutes a weapon-lock and how to make new ones
  2. Since you felt the need to edit your original response, I edited my own. In summation, this isn't a hug box and if you don't want to be criticized for your work then make your work not-shit. If you didn't want to be criticized at all, that's fine. You don't need to post your project, just work on it for yourself. Enjoy your own stuff. But you put it out in a public forum, so sucks to be you. And I am sick and tired of the quality of the work on this place, I'm sick of bad writing, of horrible stories, of horrendous ideas. So if I have to play quality police until someone bans me or I finish my project (In which case I'm just gone from this place and I can hope, just a little, that people grew up) I'll do that.
  3. Sure I'm helping, here are the flaws in your project, either take steps to fix them or don't. But if you don't then it will be a flawed, horrible mess of a project. I'm not giving suggestions for additions because my own idea of what redoing FE7 is would require a complete rework, and I do not trust you or your team to be able to handle that, and on top of that it's simply my personal feeling of what to do if you reworked FE7, how I would address the flaws. I'm not sorry I'm ruining the premise or hurting your feelings, this isn't a Hugbox, this is hacking. I am a critic and am sick and tired of people not getting the subtle hints that they are doing something wrong so I'm being blunt. And if it hurts then good, the truth does hurt. Your headcanon doesn't interest me, what your opinion is doesn't interest me. You can "not like Nergal being Ninians dad", but thinking it's canonical is in fact you just being wrong. Tough break, it's canon. Get over it. And I don't care that I insulted you, get better and I wont have anything to complain about, then you wont be getting insulted. I understand why you're getting upset, because I had the gall to be blunt and to the point. And that's not going to change. You think I'm self-righteous and high-and-mighty? I'm a terrible hacker, just as bad a writer, I can't sprite, my maps are hilariously large and I had the insanity to smash my head against the grind stone for going on 4 years now. You know what I have? people telling me where my problems are, and me fixing them. They are not always nice, sometimes they can be very blunt. And in turn, when other people who work with me help out, and I am blunt back at them, they are okay with that. Because dressing up the truth in a pretty pink ribbon and hugging it out doesn't help anyone.
  4. So in short, you're not addressing any of FE7's actual flaws, such as the pacing, the structure of the arcs, the general amount of faffing about, and are instead going to add superfluous things, such as a playable Ninian Manakete despite her being dead, and the big crux of the game being her revival, expanding the backstories of the characters who already have extensively explored backstories, a new playable character that nobody could care for and... TBA And your aiming for early 2014? Let's analyze that shall we, if you want to bring the rest of the Divine Weapons in (Why? The S rank weapons are already as powerful if not more so in this game) you're going to need to get Apocalypse into the game. Apocalypse is a horrendously insane monster of ASM and magic that would be extremely difficulty to move over. and the other divine weapons are literally just weapon icons. You wont make early 2014, if this even gets off the ground. And on top of all that "Make more links to FE6"? Are you fucking nuts? FE6 and FE7 shouldn't have anything to do with each other, they are about two separate conflicts, any ties you could make between the games would be superfluous and only exist to stick out like a sore thumb (much like the games current references) as "LOOK! LOOK! THIS IS TOTALLY A PREQUEL CAUSE THESE GUYS SHOWED UP!" It's not going to work, it wont naturally flow without stripping FE7 down to its core and completely rewriting it, and if you're doing that I would rather not trust a writer who actively substitutes what is canon for what is in their head. I would love to see someone go over FE7 with a fine comb and fix its problems, they exist, they should be fixed. This is not that project, and this does nothing but fill me with dread. Or it would if I had any faith of this getting off the ground, which I don't. Thank god. The last thing the world needs is another terrible FE7 hack.
  5. I just... I can't... I know that I was the one who said that the point was going to be missed but I'm still a little shocked. I can only be thankful that I don't actually drink, otherwise I would be dead with rage and alcohol together killing me.
  6. Well if you're still awake in about... 6 hours I'll try to run a stream and you can see for yourselves. EDIT: Late but up http://www.twitch.tv/orpheusnilus
  7. Oh I removed weight. I took a long time to come to that conclusion and since the enemies are plenty challenging I just did it.
  8. The current balance is that pre-promotes have higher growths than unpromoted units, but average out as essentially a 20/10 character. They will never be the best . But there is no penalization for using them essentially. Think Camus or Titania when it comes to growths.
  9. Hmm, I don't know. Theoretically it could all be reverse engineered but not all of it would be applicable. And of course notes would be included along with explanations. A lot of it is FE6 specific though, after all the ASM to make it so paired endings work isn't needed by FE7 or 8. The ASM to make it so full endings play for everyone isn't needed but will be apply-able to anyone wishing to hack FE6 of course. Then there's stuff like the Magic Expansion Project. Yes there's going to be ASM involved there but that's a project across all 3 games that's just also being showcased in my hack. There is one thing that I can think is applicable across FE7 and 8 that's under Important not Vanity (the distinction is that Vanity is not necessarily in the scope of the project, but I would love to have it if time/patience permits him) and you'll see it if/when it's done.
  10. So how about an update. Always fun. I went through and fixed all the broken supports. At the same time I wrote new supports for Thany/Juno, a new A support for Niime/Jodel, A new C for Noah/Karel (combining the old C and B into a new B) and did some overall editing on all three Chad/Ellen supports. Also went through with some name changes, the Juno/Jodel/Jahn trio, Oujay to Ogier, making sure Lott is consistently called that (as it was the script flip-flopped) Ward to Wade (though I feel like reversing it, since Ward is more flavorful if less correct.) Dragon Knight/Lord to Dracoknight/master and Wyverns to Drakes. Dark Dragon to Demon Dragon, Dragon-Human War to Divine Crusades. If any of you have a problem with that, as I've said multiple times the hack is open source once released, go nuts and change it back. I don't care at that point. I've separated the Drynwyn and the Rapier, the former is Roy's Tier-1 Prf, the latter is the old Rapier with no lord-lock. Drynwyn is one of the Thirteen treasures of the Island of Brittain White-Hilt, the Sword of Rhydderch Hael (Dyrnwyn, gleddyf Rhydderch Hael): "if a well-born man drew it himself, it burst into flame from its hilt to its tip. And everyone who used to ask for it would receive; but because of this peculiarity everyone used to reject it. And therefore he was called Rhydderch the Generous." The in-game plot of the blade is that it was Cecilia's graduation gift to Roy. I had originally wanted to call the blade Hauteclere due to the reference to the Song of Roland, but IntSys already turned that into an axe. Probably because there are no legendary axes... The Al Sword has become Joyeuse, Roy's 2nd-Tier prf weapon, the blade of Etrurian Prince takes when they come of age. Elphin for whatever reason has it and gives it to Roy. And the Gant Lance has fully become the Heavy Spear now down to the name (though not weapon icon). Now Leygance is truly an utter joke to the Triangle Attack. Should see about renaming the Triangle Attack the Jetstream Attack for the armors. Finally, I've sent the wizard responsible for the ASM wonders being bestowed upon my hack the list of important and vanity needs. He's busy, as he is what with all that he makes, hacks, creates, destroys, and rends common sense to shreds. But that should be wonderful. By the end of this we should have a lot of stuff not just for my hack, but for the community too. Other than that, I've been plaything through the game on Development Streams, going over balance and character placement and enemies and items. So if you ever wanna see that happen, go to OrpheusNilus on Twitch and you should be in for... well... wonderful insanity. There is still a lot left to be done for a brief rundown 6 animations 7 map sprites Lots of item sprites magic animations in relation to the Expanded Magic Project Portraits (4 Player Characters, then incidental NPC/boss stuff which doesn't worry me too much) Text/map event correction (So we don't go from Ilia to Etruria and fight Roartz and Arcard twice). Ending editing, getting the new ones for the new PCs, Writing up the Supports for new units. Optionally, there is coding up the new chapters the game will have so that the pacing all flows how we want it too. Renaming/numbering the chapters. Which, I should pose a question. If I were to type the name into FE7 and then save the graphic there, would that be a fast way of transferring them to FE6? With that, everyone will be in their correct place for recruitment and the games length proper. and basically the only thing left to do will be to go through and change old maps/the script Also, a question, not a poll because ultimately I'll do what I want anyway but a curiosity. Would people prefer if saving Hector was HM only? The same saving method would apply (Get Ellen into his cell before the turn event that kills him) but it would only be accessible on Hard Mode. The reason I am against this is that the game will be looking for everyone to be alive and in the party when it runs its extra plot stuff. If Hector isn't savable then Erik can't join. meaning you don't get any extra plot bits after a certain point, simply cause you're on normal mode. Anyway. That's that for now. I'll leave you with a few images Thank you generic paladin for filling in for Erk while he gets his new clothes Some name and class changes. I figure female soldiers having the same map sprite as males was perfectly fine. A better description for the Rapier. I had a much longer one written up but it got cut off after the first line. So better making them to the point. Ahhh, now I know exactly how to do all the different victory conditions, I'm going to have a lot of fun. The latest version of Lyn is on the right. She... has not had a good time. Welp! See you all when I have a new update!
  11. no i wouldn't, it just shows the weapon rank for the type of weapon you use.
  12. Well I have no idea when that is. I'm shooting for some time next year for 1.0
  13. So my Wizard got everyone's full endings showing up in FE6's credits (or more specifically after the credits). Just thought I should let you all know. We have 6 animations to go and one current animation being refurbished. So I'll see you all with the next bit of update when I have it. Oh, and nothing to concern yourselves about but I finally went through and removed _0x40 from every event, since we appropriated that for escape chapters. It all works fine, but it's basically something I don't have to do at release time.
  14. 17 would mean that Eliwood was born the year this game took place, which yes, would put Isadora and Harken basically in the 10-12 range. 13 would put them at 30. Marcus would be... 23+, seems reasonable. Vaida would be... maximum 22? Depends on where you think she falls in the "30s" scale in FE7.
  15. Just for clarification this isn't actually 20 years before FE7 anymore, correct? because the logistical problems of that are numerous and mind boggling. Like how Isadora and Harken would have to be in the single digits, and Vaida would be in her teens. Also, of course I don't have a script to go through so simply from the video, minor thing. "By the Sky, Uther." This is odd to come from Elberts mouth, since he isn't Sacaean and the whole Earth/Sky thing is theirs. On top of that they have a church, it's monotheistic, so "By the Gods" wouldn't work either, singular deity. "By Elimine/For Elimine's sake" may work, since she is a saint. Although it would be the equivalent of going "By Peter" when you actually think about it. "By God" is the only way to go if you want to keep the line the same, if you have problems with references to a deity in speech for... whatever reason, not sure why considering that actual FEs don't mind talking about Gods and Goddesses with the noun "God/Goddess" Then I would suggest altering the line entirely. "For pities sake, Uther." for example. I'm going to go over this a couple more times, make a few notes about any problems I see, and then report back here. The story here is 99% well written from what I can see and I don't spy any major problems beyond the potential age thing making it a potential nightmare, the vulgarity can be annoying for some but personally I feel so long as the person saying it fits, there isn't an issue. An annoyance for me was that Lyn spoke so properly in FE7 despite having lived on her own in Sacae for most of her life. Yet she already spoke like a noble, a confusing bit of writing, since she should have developed to speak more nobly, and started blunt and... well "Savage". But yes, the swearing doesn't bug me, if I see something massively wrong I'll post about it. EDIT: The conversation between Eagler and Uther has Eagler's like "... I assume it must be a matter of grave significance." followed by Uther saying "I imagine so." I would recommend "I'd imagine so" as it sounds a lot more natural. "Leal" I had to look up this word to get its definition, while I understand flavoring the setting, you want something to be conveyed to the player without them having to go "Okay time to pull up the dictionary" This line "I would be your escort, my lord. With your permission, I will accompany you to Ostia." is perfectly fine, but it doesn't sit well with me. maybe consider rewording it. But if you don't it works. Okay now I know this can't be 20 years in the past. Eliwood wouldn't have been born then. I'm still unsure of the time frame, because Marcus is in his 40's and Harken and Isadora are in their 20s and they look close to the same age here. Actually Marcus looks a little older than he used to, though not quite in his 20's/30s and it would seem odd for Uther to call him a Kid.
  16. I did not know that about Ryru, all anyone ever said was that he knew how to do all these things and they didn't have any notes. Still, and I know this is an obvious thing to say. Had nobody tried Way-Back Machining where he posted them in the first place? I mean you very well could have and not found anything but it seems a shame to leave such valuable research to the dust. And not to pass blame, but I think this would have been less of an issue if others had thought to back it up themselves. I realize that's hindsight speaking, and isn't meant to be a shot at anyone who was around for that era. It's just one of those things we think to do now. I have made sure that I don't contain the only documentation to my research, even simple things like fixing a broken data stream. I realize that we can't spend ever moment working on new features, at the same time if a problem emerges, especially in the tools we all use. The response shouldn't be "Oh well the tools work fine the rest of the time so screw it." I mean, Nightmare can still break FE6 roms if you go "Save" instead of "Save As" Why? I have no earthly idea. One day I'll sit down and have a gander and try to see what's up I guess. But at the same time, the funniest thing, and probably the saddest thing, about the FEditor bugs regarding FE6? People in fact did know what the cause was, but they simply never equated it to the bugs. In the thread where I posted the fix, Arch asked me "So, did you fix the save patch?" Which just prompted me to blank because I wasn't aware of any bug. And when Arch explained to me that the hack for FE7 and 8 which changes how the save routine saves stats didn't work for FE6 it became one of those "And no one thought to bring this up?" moments. Because that was the exact problem, that the save routine had been ruined by the auto-patch. And the double funny thing is that Cam knew that it was an Auto-Patch causing the problem. And Arch and I don't know how many people knew that there was an Auto-Patch that flat out didn't work right... but that apparently never dawned on anyone! I have to stress I'm not insulting Cam or Arch, but it just becomes one of those hilarious in retrospect things, like one person knew one piece of evidence, another person the other. And that was the solution to the mystery, but somehow it never came up! It's both so sad and funny! And yeah, when it comes to helping people, I have always believed that a person has to be willing to show that they are completely devoted to their project. And secondly, and this was always personal. I would never ask someone to do something that - Had I there skills and they mine- I would not personally take on. An example of this is that Cam explained to me about a non-threatening bug in my game, I asked if it was fixable and he answered me honestly. Yes, but it would be such a massive undertaking it would take about a year to complete. That's a no brainer, I would not be willing to undergo a year for someone elses project. Especially since it's not critically in need of fixing. Asking someone to deliver you the moon on a whim should always lead to you asking "If it was the opposite? would I be bringing them the moon?" I have always lived by the idea that people would help you, and cover your weaknesses, if you were willing to help yourself. When I started my project I couldn't anything. I had to learn to event, I had to learn to mess around in HxD. And while I'm not good, or even great, at what I do. I can at least help myself. I believe myself to be bad at Map making, but I can make them. And I truly believe that so long as I show that my project is not in fact, something that's just going to die out. And that I'm putting in all the effort I can. That when help is asked for, someone will oblige. Maybe they wont do everything, and that's fine. But I know that I've looked at other peoples projects and thought "Man, if I had known this was going to turn out like this, I would have offered to help." No jokes. I would seriously have gone to them and said, "Hey, listen this is how I honestly feel this is turning out. I would like to help you if you would like me to." I thank god for the kind souls of people like Temp, who is another person I found off site. Who is so willing to put in the effort when it comes to animations, out of the goodness of his heart. I am thankful for people like TactHack, who isn't just willing to help when it comes to eventing or testing. But when it comes to his own hack is so willing and open to accepting criticism and improving upon them. So yeah I agree, people need that desire to help themselves. But at the same time, no man or woman can do everything on their own.
  17. I'm not going to lie. I intended -and in fact still intend to- leave once my project is done. While I've met good people here the overall feeling of the community was pretty damn disgusting, compounded by the fact that I've been working pretty darn outside the box there was a combination of no help, and pretty much all requests for it being distilled down to "Go work on FE7". Then I left, and I found someone else, and he helped work with me and we got it done in less than 24 hours. Now I know why I was getting the bugs I was getting. Now I can proceed forward after 3 years. Hell the responses off site have generally been more positive and helpful than they ever were on. Off-Site people were welcoming to enter discussion about potential flaws, while suggesting improvements, with a liberal freedom to swap both criticism and help. I still meant what I said in my own threads, the animations, the research notes, everything I've done for my hack is going to be free to use once said hack is done. It's going to be there to help other people. So when someone goes "Hey, I wanna do an escape chapter" Someone can tell them "Here, these notes detail how to make an escape chapter in events." Or when they're looking for animations, they have them. Or if they simply want to modify the rom from my hack, with all the changes I've implemented there. They can. If I've learned one thing over the past three years it's that nobody succeeds on their own. People have flaws and weaknesses, and sometimes we need other people to cover those for us. And really I don't want to leave. I want to see this place change for the better. If I can give an example, Ryru apparently found out how to put Manaketes into FE7. Everyone knows this, but nobody apparently has the documentation that explained how this was done. It seems to be a "We know, but we don't know." And I find that to be a disheartening flaw. I feel like each hacker should definitely be documenting, and that these notes be released for everyone. And then backed up. So that this doesn't happen. After all, Information is only as good as your ability to use it. For example, in FE6 if you want to use Event Assemblers definitions, all your events have to have their co-ordinates be double digits. 1 is no good, 01 is what has to be put in. For the longest time I didn't know that, I don't think anyone did. But now it's documented for the future. I still realize how hard it can be to help people who are getting into hacking however. It can be so frustrating to be helping someone without direct visual communication, since you can't simply tell what's been messed up. But the effort should be put in. Not simply because it would make the community a better place to be, but what's to be gained through being guarded and hostile? We should try our hardest to be open, giving and above all else work together. I dunno, that's just me. I don't think I wanna see someone who winds up in the position I was in. Waiting 3 years to do something and not being able to proceed because of something they couldn't control.
  18. Correct, and if I don't pull them from the hack, no skin off my back.
  19. Not a problem. Thank you, Temp does good work and I'm lucky to have someone who's taken on more responsibility than he should have had to due to other animators bugging out. Not a problem. I don't do things without reason, even if sometimes the reason is silly, and while I can understand worries or confusion, I trust that it will all make sense in the end. Thank you, and yes progress got kickstarted when someone finally tracked down what the problems with FEditor and FE6 was. Only took him a day too, and since then we've been gearing up for 1.0 which for the record, will be the new classes, characters, gameplay mods, and a slightly fixed up story that makes it so that traversing across the route splits doesn't suddenly jump you back to Etruria. From then we'll begin working on handling each arc individually, remaking the chapters as we go along, some way more than others. I'll then release the patches at the conclusion of each Arc, so that you can continue to play the game through to conclusion once you've gotten through the new content. From there we're looking at "beautification" all the little, definitely not necessary things that I want to do to simply clean up the game. Emotion variant portraits, music, and so on and so forth. The hack will never reach a "Final" stage I am unfortunate to say, since there will always be one major bug that, while solvable, is a horrendous amount of effort (Simply put, you'll be save stating once you've acquired 52 units. since while you recruit more than that, the game will delete them on a hard reload.) Again this is solvable, but it's a tonne of effort, and thus would likely be handled absolutely last if ever.
  20. It is not, while me and Arch have talked about a few things that we share across games, the truth is we both have different visions as to how Elibe continues onwards, and we each take our separate path. You know up until we form the Two-Man Power Trip and remake FE6 in FEXNA. THEN shit's going to get cray cray A multitude of reasons actually. The first being the body thing that was mentioned. The second I'm a big proponent of themeing and gameplay/story integration; the addition of Axes from the warrior promotion could potentially complicate supports, also it really doesn't fit within her character, which I've very much tried to remain faithful too. The third is that I didn't think of it, and the fourth is simple. This hack may be my design, my celebration of FE6 and my love for it, giving it treatment I believe it deserves, but at the same time it's other things. Like the expansion of community knowledge about hacking, and the additional new resources and techniques discovered as we progress through. What I develop is for everyone, and by choosing to insert a female soldier and halberdier, along with female fighter and warriors, I have the ability to create those for any future hackers who wish to use them. Because really, helping other people, be it now or in a future situation, is something a hacker should aspire to do, not be insular and lock down the knowledge they have, but to spread it and attempt to bring others to their level. to share tools and resources where they can. After all, one man didn't make this a reality, it's the people who've been at my side and supported me, helped me, taught me, and in turn worked with me that will make this project real. And it would be poor repayment to simply say "And this is all mine now, no one else can have it." So the fourth reason is to support the hacking community. I do not, and - for the record it is Onmi. I know it's a subconscious thing but please try. By having a completely custom portrait and no just being a generic character? Sheesh it's like you think of me as lazy and not completely insane.
  21. Sure Noah - Mercenary Treck - Soldier Zealot - Halberdier Dorothy - Soldier Lilina - Duchess (Working Class name) And the new characters Nino/Lily - Sage Erk - Mage Knight Lyn - Blade Lord Hector - Great Lord Eliwood - Knight Lord Erik - Halberdier Guinevere - Princess (Working class name) Mary - Fighter She's kind of completely unsuited to be a fighter body-type wise. Where as Marys design is more Echidna-Lite. Where as she's perfect to be a Soldier both storywise (She's protecting Saul, a squishy monk, so she soaks up the hits and dishes them out, but not as great as an armor knight, while maintaining an armor set that works with her body type) and gameplay wise (When we're introduced to Saul and Dorothy, she's in a perfect position to team with him as a soldier, as an Archer she's horrifically out matched)
  22. Because as you said, there were 4 archers, I needed to balance out the classes. It makes more sense for a squishy monk to have a study soldier to protect him, not an archer who needs as much protection. Mary is in fact Lott's sister and comes as a Fighter. I cut down on how many Cavs there were, I pumped up the more lacking classes, I set about to give them all something unique about them so your choice isn't just Growth Rate but "Hey Ogier gets his nice unique sword. But Dieck has a good Axe Rank, and a unique Spotlight Mission, But then we have Noah who's also got a Spotlight, and he's very sword focused" You know, give the player a reason to experiment on repeat playthroughs. Keeping the spirit of FE6 alive while changing it up. No she's a Soldier
  23. Dorothy and Mary. Also he's perfectly fine, music guides his soul, if he can sing and dodge he can play "Holy Lonely Light" long enough to cast. This is partially addressed on page 1, I do every now and then update it. EDIT: I mean cripes the Soldier was specifically made to invoke Dorothy...
  24. Thank you? I'm not sure what you mean about Guy since he's an FE7 character and this hack is very much a celebration of FE6, so the FE7 characters who return in some way are very limited, such as direct relatives or close characters therefore of. As for Guy, yeah he's probably dead. In fact if you don't see them appear you can pretty much assume they died if they didn't live in Etruria or Bern. Anyway, have this nice image of Elphins new battle animation, his promoted Animation when completed wont be posted here, but that's because it's a massive surprise and I like to have a few of those in stock. If your curious as to the Changes in the Bard, they are a Light-Magic class, and you can consider Elphin to be a Semi-Lord, he can't seize thrones and he can technically be killed, but he has a unique promotion item (one of only 3, the other two being for Lilina and Guinevere) and a unique class. Though functionally he acts as a Monk, his promotion gains and weapons are different. He also can't sing, two Refreshers is an utterly absurd concept, so Lalum is taking over full refresher roles, and thus doesn't promote or have the ability to attack... For now you know, I could always change my mind later on. But really the desire is to just get 1.0 out as fast as possible. I would also like to inform the thread that female Armors and Generals will no longer be getting unique attack animations. It's not that we didn't want to do them, but it added 6 extra weapon animations to the backlog, for frankly something that doesn't need to be done. Much like Lalum promoting or having a weapon, I'm not ruling out that we wont ever go back to the idea, but for now the focus is on the classes who need it, like the Female Soldier and the Female Warrior. Both of which have been completed and work in game. Thanks to Lowen and Geitz, who took the time to crossdress so we could show these off. Again, these work perfectly fine in FE6 and 7, so despite them being shown off in 7 they don't cause any issues. Well then, I'll see you all when I have the next status update.
  25. Merlinus, who's might was so powerful he had to be folded into Roy. On a completely unrelated note I figured out how to turn Roy into Storage proper, it's not just a simple ability change either, since there's a bit of ASM that looks at the character slot not the class slot. Don't mind those Armor Knights and the General, I was just testing something.
