  1. Chapter 1 5/5

Considering I didn't have any units besides Marcus and Roy, 5 turns was really the best I could do. Standard charge up, Roy got a lucky critical which saved a turn, and Marcus killed the boss with the Silver Lance.

    Chapter 2 8/13

Standard affair, Marcus sweeps the bottom, got a few lucky dodges with Ellen since I was trying to get her exp, Dieke kills almost everything on the right side, Merlinus gets Armorsword, gives it to Shanna who moves it across the mountain to Marcus who one rounds the boss. Roy capture took a turn longer due to bandits getting in the way.

    Chapter 3 8/21

Charge through, Marcus grabbed Roy turn 2 and dropped him turn 6. Dropped him in the wrong spot so that cost me a turn. Merlinus got the Mend, and everyone else ran as far and fast away as possible. Dieke killed some foes with healing from Ellen.

    Chapter 4 11/32

Starting my trend of taking way longer than others early, good for me. I can easily cut a turn or two off of this, but Roy, Marcus, and Dieke got such good levels that I really don't mind. I wish Marcus had gotten one point of speed for the next chapter, but him already getting Strength twice is fine by me. Killed Rutger, which I didn't really mean to do, nor want since Dieke would've liked his Killing Edge, but mistakes happen.

    Chapter 5 9/41

Got some really poor bandit placements here, and then Marcus couldn't double the boss. After two turns of attack though, he gained one speed with a level up and then could double. The boss easily died that turn, and then Roy captured. Also, they got a C support with each other, how sweet. (MarcusxRoy is the OTP). Dieke went north and took care of everyone there.

    Chapter 6 8/49

Finally, the battle menu. After a while of preparing, I blitz the middle, and then move on to take the throne. Ellen almost dies, but more lucky dodges made sure that didn't happen. Gave Roy the Angelic Robe, since I figured he needed all the help he can get, and it gets him out of two shot range. Not like he was doing anything turn one regardless.

If someone told me that a unit is as good as Marcus, that would be grounds for me to bench him. Marcus is good for early game and a portion of midgame and that's it. A unit that falls off can never be best unit, since his stats are not good at all past that point. the best unit would be Hector with his overkill STR and DEF.

Except for the fact that Blazing Sword's early and midgame are the hardest parts of the game, and the endgame is piss-easy due to lower-level enemy spam as opposed to higher level enemies. Marcus is great early game, with reliable ORKO's being dished out left and right. His amazing bases carry him the whole game. Midgame, he is still viable due to decent growths and his mount, and endgame he is only slightly below your other units. Cavaliers and Paladins are the best units in all of GBA Fire Emblem, so even if he slightly falls off he is still better than the majority of your units. Not that it matters since the endgame is so easy you can bring practically anyone and still be fine.

Also Hector is not the best unit. His promotion is the worst of the three lords, since while he does get swords (better than bows), he doesn't gain any move, meaning he's stuck with 5 move for the entirety of the game. Is Hector a good unit, yes, but he is far from the best unit in FE7. You're well aware the general consensus is that Marcus is the best unit in FE7, and at this point we've all become thoroughly used to your staunch disapproval and hatred of this idea, so if I had to pick some other best unit, it'd probably be Sain, since he is the more powerful of the cavalier duo, and that extra speed with Kent doesn't really amount to much.

    9 hours ago, DiogoJorge said:

Sain is better than Marcus, since he has better growths and stats as a Paladin, and Kent is better than Sain, since he's more balanced and doesn't have accuracy issues with axes and throwing weapons. Sain is almost as good as Kent, so I recommend using him if you have the slots for him, but Kent takes priority.

if using Marcus works for you, that's fine, just remember there are better picks for Paladins than him. Even Lowen is better.

Let's take a look at 20/20 stats. Those are by no means actually going to happen without serious grinding, but I'm lazy and it's an easy endpoint. Before we start, they all have equal con upon promotion, except for Lowen who will have one more con upon promotion.

We'll start with your favorite, Kent.

    HP

    54.3

    Str

    22.2

    Skl

    26

    Spd

    24

    Lck

    9.6

    Def

    16.5

    Res

    11.5

Kent is mostly balanced, however he has overkill speed. 24 is not necessary in Blazing Sword, and while it is nice to look at, every other cavalier can double just fine without it. His hp is the second highest, strength is second highest, skill and speed are highest, luck is the lowest, his defense is barely the second highest, and his resistance is the second lowest. In conclusion Kent is a terrible unit since he has the worst luck and luck is the best stat a very good unit who is solid from the get-go and grows into a competent unit, although he has the personality of a cardboard box.

    Then we'll go to Sain.

    HP

    51.4

    Str

    25

    Skl

    18.3

    Spd

    22.2

    Lck

    17.2

    Def

    15.6

    Res

    8.6

Sain is by far the most powerful of the four, with stats that lean into a heavy offensive focus. Even so, his defenses aren't that bad, so he should be able to take a few hits while dealing them back out in spades. His HP is the third highest, strength is the highest, skill is second lowest, speed is second highest, luck is second highest, defense is third highest, and Resistance is the lowest. Now, I have found that while Kent would most certainly be the better unit in a game that is better optimized, Sain's stats are much more suited for the kind of game that FE7 is. His speed is high enough that he has no problems doubling, his defense is high enough that nothing will really dent him, and though you bash his skill by saying he has accuracy problems, his high luck stat mitigates this quite well, while also ensuring he won't be prone to criticals and the like.

    Next we look at Lowen

    HP

    58.3

    Str

    19.1

    Skl

    17.1

    Spd

    19.1

    Lck

    21.5

    Def

    23.8

    Res

    12.1

I'm going to outright say that Lowen is the worst of the four cavaliers. This doesn't really mean much since he is still a cavalier, and a good unit in his own right, but for the sake of comparison we're going with it. His HP, Luck, and Defense are the highest of the four, Strength and Skill are the lowest, Speed third highest and Resistance is second highest. He'll barely take any meaningful damage, but he'll occasionally struggle dealing it back out. At the end of the day, he is a tank on a horse, and pretty useful at what he does.

    And lastly, Marcus

    HP

    43.35

    Str

    20.7

    Skl

    24.5

    Spd

    15.75

    Lck

    13.7

    Def

    12.85

    Res

    14.65

You take a look at Marcus's final stat spread, and you think "That's it?", but remember, that's in comparison to everyone else's 20/20 stats. A more apt comparison would be to 20/10, but I'm only just realizing that now and I'm not going back to re-write my entire post and get those stats again, so here we are. HP lowest, Str third, skl second, speed last, luck third, def last, resistance first. Marcus is a magical wall, who can easily double any mage since they start to carry heavier tomes. He will consistently hit and deal great damage. He can take plenty of damage and dish it back out.

So if we look at these stats, we can see that yes, a trained Sain, Kent, or sometimes Lowen will indeed beat Marcus, but notice that word, "trained". Marcus is immediately good, and immediately usable. Sain, Kent, and especially Lowen rely on their good growths to reach the heights that they do, and at this point we should all know that Bases are much better than Growths.

You didn't have any Smoke Machines in your inventory? Enemies sometimes drop these and they're always worth having on hand in case of Savages.

I did, I just forgot they existed since I never really use items outside of a few healing ones, and maybe a stone during a boss-fight.

47 minutes ago, Interdimensional Observer said:

Savage encounters always give one of your characters the first turn, an act of mercy so you can try escaping.

That's grand and all, but you see, I was over-confident from three hours of grinding and easy fights where I swept the enemy in one turn, so I thought I could take them.

50 minutes ago, Interdimensional Observer said:

Or, if you want to fight, if the character who got the mercy action was not Itsuki, and Kiria isn't in the main cast or it was her who got the action, and if she has completed her second quest and has acquired Pastel Power, and you have the SP for it, then use that. Whereas bosses shrug off the ailments of Pastel Power, I've noticed random foes, including Savages, are easily crippled by it. With them wasting a turn or three each while ailed, you can begin chopping them down in quick order.

    Good to know

  4. I think I only get one more unit, so let's go through my last 4 choices. I can't get Dayan, he's out, so I either get another magic user, another axe user, or an armor knight. I don't have the guiding rings for another magic user, so Hugh is out. I'd rather have a good axe user, despite my team already being very axe focused, plus I already have Lilina so getting him should be easier. Why not, I'll choose Garret.

  5. Suppose I'm going to want a healer, and Ellen is the only one left, as for my other unit, uhh, since I don't have Sue, Shin, Shanna, or Tate, that means I'm automatically going to Ilia, so I suppose a bow user would be nice. The general consistence seems to be that Klein is the best of the bunch, so I'll go with him. I probably just made a huge mistake and I don't care. I was going to pick another magic user, but then I realized I'd be in Guiding Ring hell like my last draft, so decide that I shouldn't do that.

    Ellen and Klein

    @Carmine Sword

  6. Well, it depends upon who you have the highest level, and what you really want. Do you want a anima user with staves, a dark magic user with staves, or a light magic user with staves? IMO, Erk is the best of the three, followed by Canas and then Lucius, but that's mainly due to Light magic being the worst magic. As for how, get'em on or above level 10, and use a Guiding Ring

No you don't want to sell her weapons, how about having her just keep all the bows in her inventroy and not deploy her? The reason being is that weapons have value per use remaining  but if you sell them you get them at half value so say you bought a weapon with N value and now if you want to sell it it's worth N/2 value but say this weapon has 100 uses and it is now at half durability, well now it's value is N/4 this is why you don't want to sell too much stuff, because it lowers your fund ranks where it might have been better to just have some bad unit hold it in their inventory forever.

No you don't it is super valuable and selling it lowers your funds rank a lot. It might be the best thing for a player that doesn't care about ranks but saying it's the best strategy is wrong.

The item you're talking about is Earth Seal, Ocean Seals are only for pirates while Earth Seals work on everyone except Lords, Thieves or Pirates. And again the ocean seal is very valuable so just keep it, Dart is ok but Hector is better.

Since this guy is asking about more of a casual playthrough, I was thinking more along the terms of that. Of course, if you're doing a ranks run, then you'll want to do that, but for a regular run having more immediate cash is better.

Best strategy was arrogant and wrong of me to say, mistakes were made. I do more casual runs whenever I play FE7, so I never really take ranks into account when giving out strategies.

I have a better question, if they think this is funny, what the hell is their problem? For me it doesn't look cool, doesn't look funny, or good so Hector with flower needs to go down.

They have no problem. Comedy is inherently subjective. Notice your own language there, "For me". Yes, for you it looks bad, you don't find it funny, you hate it. But for someone else, it could look great, or it could be hilarious, and they could love it. I always give my Legendary Ike the most ridiculous hat, no matter how bad it looks since I find it hilarious. I've given the bunny ears to Hector, although those got old after a few months, switched it to Lucina's mask. The reason that Accessories got put into the game (Aside from IS having another reward to bait us with and to make it seem like some events have a purpose), was for customization. To take something down because you don't like it ruins that customizing aspect. Sure, it is by far not the games driving appeal, but it can easily be one of them.

    2 minutes ago, Garlyle said:

Does this topic really have to turn into analysing me and how I play the game? You guys need to take it easy, seriously... it's not like I said I would beat Hector in real life if I see a flower on him, jeez [which you physically can't do]

You kinda brought this on yourself with your insistence that this specific thing not occur. And you're right, you didn't say that you would beat Hector in real life, you said you would beat the hell out of the person who did that. (Or at least that how I interpreted your language, since the "Them" in your statement was clearly referring to the people

But if I see people put feminine accessories on the most masculine characters, I just feel like beating the hell out of them [Them being the players, not the characters].

    Case and point.

  9. If I want someone with a nice balanced moveset that also happens to be my highest leveled unit, I go with Rowan.

Lyn/Navarre if I want to feel like a badass doing all of those flips.

Camilla/Minerva for any crowd clearing mission.

Azura since she is the best waifu in this game by proxy of actual best girl not being in FE:W, and also her moveset is just overall the most fun to play with, even if she isn't the best by a longshot.

Archers for duels since they can basically just use pot-shots and still be safe due to their range

Chrom/Lucina if I'm dueling and deciding to not be a coward

Elise if I want to get somewhere fast and use magic.

  10. The demo is literally a chapter long, which is meh. Didn't really get a chance to dig into gameplay, and what I played was really easy (It was the first mission, but still, the first mission in FE1 could kick your ass if you were an idiot, Gaiden could have bandits gang up on one unit and they die, FE3, I have never actually played, FE4 had villages being constantly attacked, and the absolute fuck-ton of reinforcements from the castle which pass through the bridge choke point and it's basically reverse turtling, where the enemy is the turtle. FE5, I honestly forget what the first chapter was.

  11. Just now, Dragoncat said:

She hates it when I wear pajama pants in public in general.

Well this is America, and you have the right to wear pajama pants in public if you want to. Unless you live in the U.K. or somewhere else, in which case you may or may not be screwed

  12. First of all, you put this in the wrong sub-category. This is Blazing Blade/Sword. Not Binding Blade/Sword of Seals.

Anyways, luck is the best stat is a stat that determines many miscellaneous factors, like helping in hit, dodge, ect. Decent stat to have, having low luck really only screws you on weapon triangle disadvantage.

Neither Bartre or Dorcas are particularly good, but Dorcas is the better of the two and is also an A+ class meme.

Rebecca isn't worth using, still very weak. Have her chip when you're forced to deploy her or just have an open slot that no unit is going to take, then bench her and sell her bow for cash. None of the archers in this game are particularly good, Rebecca is trash, Wil is trash, Rath is decent at best, Louise is decent at best and Lyn rarely ever has a reason to use Bows upon promotion. You don't need a bow user at all to beat this game.

Matthew doesn't need experience points too much. You will most likely never promote him, and his utility is in stealing things and opening chests. Even if you do promote him, he'll just be a worse Jaffar. You know you f-ed up if you're relying on Matthew to deal meaningful damage (Outside of the first few chapters).

Oswin, or BOSSWIN, as he is often called, performs basically the same job as Hector, but normally better on average. He's basically a mini Jagen (or if you don't know archetypes, a slower Marcus). His main early game utility is weakening down units for other people in your army to kill. Unfortunately for him, Knights require Knights Proofs (Or crest, it's been a while since I played GBA Fire Emblem.), which most cavaliers call pretty good dibs on. Speaking of cavaliers

Lowen is the defensive cavalier. Sain is the strong one, Kent is the fast one. Marcus is OP as shit, and Isadora is all-around. Those are all general assessments, and not always true, but take that as you will. There are no bad cavaliers in FE7, so use any of the ones that you want. In fact, use any unit that you want, the game isn't that hard.

Crits, or critical hits, are attacks that triple your damage. So if Sain was fighting a brigand, and would normally be dealing 7 damage, but activates a critical, then he will now deal 21 damage. Crits are mainly effected by skill, and a bit of luck. I assume you know that hit rates are the rate that you will hit, as attacks aren't guaranteed like they are in Heroes.

Each class has a promotion item or an item that allows the to transition into another class upon reaching a certain level. You see, there's a level cap of twenty, promoting resets the level cap, gives you a fancy new sprite, often new weapons, and stat bonuses. The items are as follows Knights Crests are for Cavaliers and Knights, Guiding Rings are for Mages, Clerics, Monks (or Monk I guess), and Shamen (Shaman), while Hero crests are for Fighters, Myrmidons, and Mercenaries.  The Fell Contract is for thieves, you get exactly one and the best strategy is instantly selling it. Ocean (might be called Earth Seal, I kinda forget) Seal can be used on anyone, who isn't a lord or a thief, above level 10 unpromoted, but is intended for Pirates. Lords have to use Heaven's Seals, well, two of them can. I am going to assume you're playing Eliwood mode, which means that Eliwood is your main lord. He won't promote until a certain moment in the story. Lyn and Hector will have to fight over who gets the first Heaven Seal, and I'll leave that choice up to you.

That enemy thief stealing items is a way to make sure you move. Same goes for Brigands going to destroy villages, and green units you need to save. The developers don't just want you to slowly advance through the map, or turtling it. They want you to experience risk, face danger, maybe lose a unit or two, but then also have another miraculously survive. That's part of the Fire Emblem experience, and although you may not like it, it is really good level design.

Your weapons aren't melting, they're breaking. The weapon durability system is a way to add realism and ensure that OP weapons don't just reign supreme. The better the weapon, the worse it's durability (generally). Don't be afraid to use any weapon, they should be used to the fullest extend instead of rotting away in your convoy. As for better weapons, well, you get Steel weapons. Don't expect this to be like Heroes, where every unit can get a cool refinement, and a unique-ish weapon. Most units will all be using the same weapons, iron and steel swords/lances/axes. Get javelins and hand axes, and get loads of them. They are single-handedly the best weapons in this game due to their 1-2 range, allowing units to be very versatile. This isn't to say you won't get cool stuff. Killing/Killer weapons that increase critical, effective weapons (Which are kinda bad in this game due to only 2x effectiveness), and eventually Silver weapons do come along.

  13. I found the game to be quite enjoyable. One big flaw with it is the lack of an autosave. That alone is why I haven't finished the game, as one time I hadn't saved for three hours, and a savage enemy encounter just popped up, wiped my party, and sent me back three hours in progress, or basically three side quests, a few levels, and a lot of weapon grinding. I haven't picked the game up since, but I really want to since I loved what I played. Just need to find the time to really dig into an JRPG.
