More people are using this thread than expected so I decided to add a bonus question and see how you'd design their kits.

For my suggestions, obviously the Crusaders and Legends would get buffed versions of the weapons they're known for (Roland could pull an Altina and dual wield Echesachs and Binding Blade) and the Messenger would be an insta-demote with Atk/Spd Clash 3 Swift Sparrow 2 if IS was feeling generous. Nada Kuya on the other hand would have a Falchion. Considering how much Saleh praises her, maybe she could have a kit that turns her into a one-woman army, like an even more oppressive version of Lucia's Nihil sword?

Just a small correction, Roland is the Durandal guy, Hartmut is the dual wielder, and yeah, I can see it happening, in fact, I want to see it happen

(I totally forgot to update this thread despite updating my mods regularly on Discord and GameBanana)

But I released a new version of this mod a while back with custom models for male Pegasus Knights and Falcon Knights ! These 2 models are probably the models I'm most proud of, and they took me quite some time and work to make so I'd really appreciate if you guys could check out the updated mod !

Also, with the inclusion of these new models, I also changed it so that Conrad is now recruited as a level 3 Falcon Knight as opposed to a level 11 Pegasus Knight in the original release of this mod.

Here are some screenshots of the new models and textures !

Wait I thought people kinda liked Ganondorf this time around.

Ganondorf is lacking results, and despite all his buffs, he still has some of the obvious problems of his archetype and the fact that Namco still wanted his recovery to be meme.

But at least using him isn't instantly losing like in the days of Brawl where using Ganondorf was like using a maze that you can barely move.

He's the worst character in the game for results but in many cases you can get away with using a lot of stuff in tournaments even if it's considered "bad" in comparison just because Smash Ultimate is a lot more balanced compared with other Smash games.

After nearly a year and a half since Ultimate’s final update, UltRank has put out the first official tier list. I know it sounds pretty weird to just now get a tier list, but keep in mind the constantly changing metagame during Ultimate’s life and COVID having screwed over in-person tournaments.

Yeah, it takes a while for a meta game to solidified, so I can understand that with COVID messing with events.

About the tiers themselves, I fully agree with the Top Top and the Bottom Bottom.

The Top Tier has two characters with a ridiculously high skill ceiling, but also a lot of good tools even in the mid level competition. And Pyra/Mythra, well, they have great tools, and tons of them, they basically have two movesets, and unlike the other characters that are like that, both characters are actually High Tier by themselves, and they also have some other traits, but I'm not so familiar with them.

And the Bottom Tier has the two characters that need to be weak for the newbies' sake (also K. Rool applies to this design philosophy, but to a lesser extent because he's definitely better than this two).

I dunno. There's hardly much wrong with Bastian, Sigrun, Lucia, or Goffrey. Even the snobby Sanaki's much better than she appears to be. There's a scene midway through where they theorize the Begnion Senate is the true embodiment of nobility and that Elincia and Kurth are different only because she was raised in secret and he's a Laguz, but after meeting Sigrun and Elincia's retainers that line of thinking loses a lot of its ground, yet when RD rolls around Ike and co pretend as if they never met all those decent nobles.

In Crimea its even a plot point that the upper class are vastly more open minded towards Laguz than the lower classes. The upper classes makes alliance with the laguz, the lower classes try to lynch them for the lulz.

Well, makes sense, the highest of highest class from Crimea (the Royal Family and probably some close families) were friendly with the Laguz from even before Crimea was a thing, it was basically the reason of Crimea's existence as far as I'm aware, like how Daein was created by some nobles that developed a completely antagonistic view of the Laguz instead of the more "loose" one that Begnion has.

I imagine the lower classes in the other hand, have barely changed from the times when their lords were the Senate, they just changed boss.

Given what Tellius' upper class is like, can you even blame him?

Anyway, Ike is divisive specifically because a bunch of people weirdly think Nintendo wrote a homosexual protagonist all the way back in 2005, in the same game series that was still using gay stereotypes for humor. And then people get really angry on both sides of that non-issue for no good reason. I think we all know that if PoR/RD got a remake, Ike would officially join the franchise's growing list of bi characters, and people would briefly be toxic about it, before it eventually gets largely accepted as good for the franchise.

Engage is already preparing us for that possibility; I didn't think I could see discussions about Ike's sexuality becoming something again in 2023.

I really hope they do make a special banner for rising heroes. As it would encourage people to actually vote for their niche picks for who they really want in the game and not just jump on the bandwagon of characters they think have a shot of actually winning.

All that being said, I feel like it's kind of inaccurate that Monica is even on that list. Because, in truth, CYL6 Monica and CYL7 Monica are actually different characters. Because we had Three Hopes released in between. So anyone voting in CYL6 were voting for Kronya disguised as Monica (or random cute red head they know nothing about), while in CYL7 there is an actual Monica character.

Also my man Bloom is number 4! Long live Mage Armourers!

Oh yeah, I know, I just mentioned it because "Monica" actually was around the lower middle, instead of being like in the bottom like most of characters in Rising Heroes, while her case is a bit special, it shows that is possible for a character in the middle to appear here.

So everyone thought it was a bit strange we got Elice, Nyna and (Good) Hardin all at once in the last banner. The best theory I heard being they were seeding future ground for legendary versions. Which, fair enough. But then we got Legendary Gotoh. Which changes the way I'm looking at things a bit. Even though Gotoh was always a shoe in for a mystic, it does change my perspective a bit. Because honestly, what's left for Archanea now that Elice, Nyna, (Good Hardin) and Gotoh have all got in in such a short amount of time? What shape will future Archanea banners take? Because it feels like they have used all their heavy hitters despite only having half it's cast in the game. All the characters that remain are, mostly, plot irrelevant niche picks. The most popular Archanea characters not in the game now are Yuliya and Arlen, which coincidentally probably are the most relevant characters not yet in the game, along with Jubelo. Lorenz is also pretty important with his role in the first chapter of New Mystery. So my prediction for the next banner would probably be Yuliya and Jubelo on a banner with Lorenz as a GHB, Jake to round it off as a Grust banner and then perhaps Ascended Camus as the alt (or someone with tits). Either that or a heroes OC so they can drop someone no one cares about as a free unit. Beyond that, Arlen as another GHB sometime, but I really don't know how they'll mash together many characters people would be excited about. There's still base Xane, I suppose, though how to implement him is always going to be a weird question to consider until they actually do it. Despite having a bunch of characters on paper not in the game, Archanea is actually kind of done as far as Heroes  is concerned. Any future Archanea banners will likely be trying to gather steam entirely off their Ascended/Rearmed and Heroes OCs. Which I guess is the state for a lot of titles, but it just feels particularly odd for Archanea given ho w many characters it actually still has, but how few of them really matter.

To be fair, Archanea's character is filled with well... filler. Characters that you only consider their existence because of a gameplay role they fit (like Caesar and Radd). The remaining Archanea's cast isn't just filled with characters that aren't plot relevant, but they also only exist as replacements for the actual characters.

Besides the characters you and Othin mentioned, the only characters that I see appearing that are actually remarkable enough to well, be characters, are like Midia (she is still one of the female characters from Archanea and well, she's kinda relevant for one of the big names), and Malliesia (also one of the only women).

There are a few other characters that could stand out (the other remake characters, Ryan and Samuel), but I'm not so sure with them.

Archanea is in such a bizarre dilemma that besides the very next banner (that at least has several women to choose from), as you implied, Archanea needs to be part of the months with OCs, in order to make sure half of the banner is marketable characters (an OC and a Ascended/Remared) and getting to do two demotes.

Haven't got base Rudolf for Shadows of Valentia either, which feela sort of weird given how complete Shadows of Valentia's roster is. And yeah, Desaix too.

I hope Desaix winning the Rising Heroes thing allows him to appear as the CYL7's GHB, it could alleviate some of the pressure from the remaining Echoes' cast when it comes time to make a banner, which unironically has more villains available than playable characters now.

I was slightly hoping they'd go creative with it and make Ludveck an Axe Knife unit, since he has a throwing weapon.

I really hope they give Griss his Brave Tome Nova. We need another Brave Tome after, like, six years of just Reinhardt. But they won't give that on a Grand Hero Battle. It's not impossible we actually get a Four Hounds banner down the road though. On the other hand, Engage is completely devoid of minor boss characters, so if they're not using the hounds for Grand Hero Battles, they don't really have anyone else.

I wonder how they'll handle Almedha. Canonically she can't turn into a dragon, but they're so few dragons in the series (and despite being a drgaon focused game, Engage actually didn't help with that, surprisingly) they might not be able to resist making her a dragon. Maybe we could see a younger version of her on a banner with a young Ashnard, as some kind of subversion of the child banners. Or they'll just have her fight with a dagger or a tome or something.

Well, at the beginning of the game there are actually like 3 named bosses that appear before the Four Hounds are properly introduced which are definitely minor bosses (the armored girl from Chapter 3, Waluigi and Mitan), and we, of course have Morion and Hyacinth, but I guess they classify as non-so-minor bosses.

As usual, I'd like to thank the Edelgard stans for literally nothing. Summer Edelgard & Altina are perfectly fine but screw off with the Adrestian Abomination.

We could've had Embla (who was the first one out at 9th) instead, but no.

Nah, I feel this time isn't Edelgard stans, they managed to get Summer Edie to the top very easily, the biggest gap between position (4k from Top 2)

No, I believe this was the job of trolls.

Oof! Ludveck only got like....eight votes. That's a shame because he's actually a pretty good antagonist for Elincia. Also Lekain just has 16 votes.

That could be a good thing in retrospective, depending how the Rising Heroes stuff ended up working out.

  13. I imagine things are very clear cut out with Radiant Dawn and Three Houses anyway; considering in the case of Radiant Dawn the two main characters can each represent a game on their own, and with Three Houses there is a clear neutral option (Byleth).

About the other characters, I feel like prioritizing the women makes sense depending the idea of the game, like in Engage feels appropiate considering the fact the game is very serious in having a near 50/50 distribution of playable characters and the games have to deal with the fact 4 of the chosen characters are gonna be guys by default regardless of how you stretch things (Marth, Sigurd/Seliph, Leif and Roy).

So I overall like the approach that Engage took in the context of the game, but besides the cases where is the logical choices for other reasons (Micaiah, Female Corrin), I want to highlight Eirika as the character that needs to represent Sacred Stones, not only is she the first character that you get in Sacred Stones, she also has the distinction of being the only female lord that is playable the whole main game that isn't an Avatar.

She is a better figure to represent Sacred Stones than Ephraim for anything besides weapon type (though, she being the swordie of the two also connects her even more with even the main lord of the two).

I really hope they don’t run CYL this way next year. I don’t like waiting almost a month for the results, and the fact that they didn’t announce the Top 3 makes the wait even longer.

I speculate the results will be announced on the 27th, since it looks like an update is happening, and that often means something significant will happen after.

Don't worry, is quite obvious that the CYL votes had to be made early to avoid conflicting with Engage's release, this had been basically the only year where the votation didn't start around the 20th.

  15. I feel like how major a villain is can be a bit of spectrum unless they're very obviously the main villain.

For example, with Petrine she feels like a minor villain because she is below Black Knight and Ashnard (which are The Dragon and the Big Bad respectively), but considering her presence in the story is actually quite noticeable, I feel like calling her a minor villain could make a bit of a disservice to her role? Personally I feel like the term "Secondary villains" feels more appropiate, specially when we're in a context where we have villains that only appear in a chapter or two like Shiharam and all the bandit bosses.

Precisely. I said I would die on this peninsula, and that's what I'm going to do. Truthfully, Michaelis would've been a better example from Shadow Dragon.

Seems like an "agree to disagree" moment. I really enjoyed Tomas in the monastery, and seeing him actually be a villain broke my heart. Monica... I felt nothing for. And even if Solon was an ineffective villain, he was a gigantic ham. Which I personally appreciate more than Kronya's "e-girl killer clown" vibe.

Technically, Thales is the most competent Slitherer, because he knocked Teach down a crevasse for five years. But he's also the most boring one, so.

It was a weird take, going from Alm's father figure and mentor to a faceless dark mage. But hey, this is the same game that turned a wicked stepmother who burns kids alive for fun into a spunky axe-user who's too lazy to get anything done. So go figure!

Also I agree, Thales was VERY convincing in his role as Tomas, he only did like one or two that could be considered mildly suspicious, but he did his job really well in revealing that this old man was actually a heretic sorcerer this whole time!

Wait, so, if Alear isn't actually Lumera's child and isn't related to her in any way, then does that mean that Alear isn't actually a Divine Dragon and that's just a lie she made up to protect their image? (Or do they still have some kind of divinity in them?)

And if that's the case, then does that mean that them being her child is also a made up story that she tells everyone (even Alear themselves) to better mask Alear's true nature? (or like, did she actually adopt Alear?)

Also, I'm curious, did Lumera ever actually sire children of her own? (or is it never stated?)

    Spoiler

Maybe whatever thing she did to make Alear less evil ended up giving them Divine Dragon blood an partially overwrote the way Alear's ancestry worked?

I could need to check the script to be sure xD.
