  1. I myself haven't watched too much of the show but my brother was obsessed with it back in high school and since our TV room is also my bedroom I usually just happened to be there whenever he watched in on the television. But on average he would just watch it on his computer so I only saw a few random episodes from various seasons.
  2. Christ, I remember watching the first black and white Dalek episodes ages ago.
  3. Oh hey we both went for the South East Asian country route in our historical strategy games! Currently Siam in my Vietnam game of Victoria 3 is going...uh... It could be better.
  4. This reads like a poetic rhyme. "Mother" "Father" "Thank you for conceiving my amazing brother."
  5. Shout out to Vietnam for being so down for women that passing women's suffrage as a law single handedly solved the unemployment crisis in the country. I remember hearing from my brother about this Brazilian politician who is apparently a big fan of Avatar the Last Airbender... I don't remember their name or influence but that's what we need in our politicians.
  6. Nintendo give us a Latin America course you cowards.
  7. It's hard to imagine what any generic Zelda movie would look like when it's a brand not nearly as commercialized and many games have completely different aesthetics. At least with Mario they had the excuse of using a game that rarely has much story, while with a Zelda movie I can't imagine watching something like that and not walk out thinking "Thanks, but if I wanted a good Zelda plot I'd play a Zelda game."
  8. It's incredible how much I've felt like this the past few months after I started working again. Employed life not that great, huh Micaiah. Oh...Oh no. Oh thank fucking god, I was afraid Fire Emblem was about to write an actually good story for once. There's a political metaphor in here somewhere. You know there's this one guy who killed his sister after saying something like that. *sigh* I've been very up to date with the news as of late... It's hard to not make some comparisons. Old habits die hard, huh Daein? Listen, when the Vietnamese used guerrilla warfare tactics surrounding the natural geography to end French rule in the country after world war 2, they sure as hell were going to use those refined skills to defend against invading forces in the latter half of the century. I love making comparisons like this. Why doesn't FE do more wars like this instead just having "Bad country invade good country." Fiona is somehow both the best and worst unit on this team. Oh...biochemical warfare that is both horrific on the living targets and will likely scar the ecosystem of the region for generations to come... That's...not great... Also there's something hilarious about Three Houses having an implied "Black liquid substance that sets on fire easily." while RD is just like "Yeah, it's oil, what of it?" "I was the one added to Smash Brothers, and so I'm the only true protagonist." Fucking hell, do you cease to exist if you mention it to others too? "Wait what do you mean it's to write a better conflict to get the plot moving?" God I wish I was him ...I wont say which one. Apathy creates itself. Which is why it's so frustrating. When people in your life our out are apathetic either to you or to the world at large, it is what causes you to feel apathetic in return, and so the wildfire of apathy spreads from person to person. I hope we can make it out of it together.
  9. When it comes to specifics it can depend on who you ask but in general the idea is to make reservations less neglected from the rest of the country while still retaining it's autonomy. The hope is to make it so people can have a little bit of a greater say on how their local region is developed and managed.
  10. Holy shit I forgot to respond to this ages ago. So if you believe that to give the land back to Indigenous hands means Instilling a racial native regime with no non-natives allowed then no, you probably couldn't do that without a massive displacement crisis, but that's not what landback is about. Right now, the land we are on has historically been stolen away from the people who have lived there for the explicit purpose of exploiting the land's natural resources to increase the power and influence of the white men in charge. And to this day, middle and upper-class white people are benefiting from that invasion and genocide. The landback movement is about ending that centuries long exploitation and let land be cultivated and taken care of by the communities that live within it and work in service to their land and community. This includes non-natives. That's what landback is about...or at least that's what it should be about. I've seen self-proclaimed leftisft white people on twitter claim that they would be totally fine with Native Americans rising up and killing them because of their imperialist perception of what landback means. And I have also seen some Native Americans unironically say white people should just "Go back to Europe" which is pretty sus.
  11. Me personally so far in playing through this franchise, I've felt like the music has only really gotten, I don't know, memorable to me from Awakening onward? I haven't played FE12 and I'm still going through RD but that's how I've felt so far. Normally I would just chalk it up to nostalgia and exposure since Awakening and Fates are games I've played a lot and have been listening to the music of for a while but when I played SoV and Three Houses for the first time just in the past two years, I definitely found that music just as memorable and still listen to the tracks often while almost never returning to listen to music before Awakening. Sure I found some previous tracks really good but I never seemed to return to them. Though that could be in part just because Awakening is the first game where the music doesn't sound like the file's been thrown into the shredder several times over just so the music could actually fit in the old game cartridges. Like for example I never got the hype for FE7s "Truth, Despair, and Hope" track until I found a fanmade orchestral remake of it. That Shadow Dragon preparation theme may be catchy but when I listen to it I feel like sandpaper is being rubbed in my ears. IS needs to remake that a third time for me to start liking the music. That being said I do agree with you that Awakening in particular doesn't have that much standout music. A lot of it is good for background ambience which I appreciate for relaxing but not many songs I'd snap my fingers to. In fact the song I listen to the most from Awakening is probably "You have power like mine" Which is just a remake of a Shadow Dragon song, a good remake and the one I prefer because again, sandpaper, but it doesn't really count as an Awakening song even though it does throw in some unique elements. There are some songs though I'd like to point out. Mastermind is the only boss theme in the entire franchise so far that I actually remember and actively enjoy. Most other boss themes I can kind of recall, either I straight up just disliked the sound of because they were so overly bombastic that they ended up sounding like nothing, or they were just sort of generic and boring. This one strikes a good balance. Shame you'll only hear it for two seconds. The song Conquest is really nice to listen to. I like my relaxing music and since it's hard to convey that with digital sound fonts Pre-Gamecube, it's so far been Awakening onward where I've been scratching that itch. And Awakening's Id Purpose, which is probably my least favorite final map theme out of the four major ones between it and God Shattering Star, but I definitely prefer it over Apex of the World and actually remember it compared to previous final map themes before Awakening. That choir part is incredible. I guess there's Twilight of the Gods. Only existing in Gaiden at the time of Awakening's release so it was in a sound font that makes it feel like my ears are being punched and poked with needles and it's only 45 seconds long. But good melody is good melody and SoV gave it a place to shine. There's also the tracks Chaos and Annihilation, which are a bit of an acquired taste but I still really like. Chaos is the catchiest song in the game in my opinion as I love the harpsichord, and it's descend into madness with the heavy organs is really fun. And Annihilation I appreciate for actually making me feel anxious which pretty much all enemy phase themes in previous games I've played have failed to do which the music alone. The mix of strings and odd shifts between time signatures make it sound uncomfortable and amazing. But other than those songs, I agree. It's only until Fates where the soundtrack is actually something I listen to on a daily basis. But who knows, I haven't played the Jugdral games or FE6 yet so maybe their 16 bit soundtracks have something incredible in them that I will fall in love with...and hopefully find orchestral remixes of online so that it actually sounds good.
  12. I just love that it's literally the only American language on that list, I'm curious what prompted the Quechua community to adopt the Japanese original word for Japan that it would be put on such a list, especially since Spanish uses JapĆ³n.
  13. My personal theory is that the Mushroom Kingdom annexed Sarasaland 23 years ago and has been keeping Daisy as a political hostage to the point where she lost her melanin in the cooler climate of the Mushroom Kingdom. I can't find a good source that details what exactly it might be about but in looking through wikipedia I learned that apparently Quechua has it's own word for Japan (Nihun) which is just absolutely lovely. Long live the Japano-Incan Empire of the Rising Sun. Bless it be to Amaterasu and Inti.
  14. I actually did buy Mario Wonder which should be arriving today. I know I've gone on about not liking Mario games but from the way people have been talking about it and since Mario Odyssey has so far been like the only Mario game I really liked and completed, I wondered if mainline Mario games from here on out would be more my speed. I definitely vastly prefer the look of it compared to previous games, and you can play as Daisy which is great! Even if she's still whitewashed.
  15. Fun fact, the name "Japan" itself is supposedly the Portuguese bastardization of the Malaysian word for Japan, (Jipong) which in itself is a bastardization of the Chinese word for Japan (Jih Pun) But also this makes sense and happens to all languages. Likewise in English we have borrowed words like Tsunami and Emoji from Japanese that are the most common words used to describe the thing that they are describing in English. Also in double checking, I found that apparently there's a word for stuff like this in Japan. Wasei-eigo words that are from English and were borrowed into Japanese, usually given a Japanese flair like sukinshippu being from the English Skinship. ...I don't know if Portuguese has any Japanese borrowed words but I wouldn't put it past a colonial empire to have a lot of foreign words in it's home language. it is where the name Japan came from.
  16. I've tried that before but in scheduling any hobby of mine I found that it was the best way to get me to hate that hobby. >Me, who starts failing on the fourth world of these games, gives up and never picks it up again.
  17. What am I practicing? My attention span? The issue for me tends to be that for any game, regardless of how much I enjoy it, I get exhausted from playing an hour of it and it takes four or more days for me to feel like playing it again.
  18. I heavily respect and envy people like you. It takes me months to simply beat a game, let alone 100% one.
  19. My opinions on Rev have definitely soured since I played it for the first time but in replaying it recently on my own I still enjoyed it, it's far from being the terrible tedious hell that part of the community says it is.
  20. This is why I haven't finished most Mario games, as fun as they at first I always get more frustrated with them than anything.
  21. Thinking about it I feel like marrying the child units in Fates is far more icky than in Awakening just because the Fates children don't have the time travel explanation for why they're adults, and many of them don't feel like adults. In Awakening the children are all around the same age as the adults because they might as well be from a different world, but the Fates children are born, raised, wedded, and parent their own child if they marry Corrin, within the events of the story in the time span of what I assume is a year. Corrin marrying any of them is like a sped up version of a friend of the parent trying to get with their child that they knew as a baby. Chrom and Lucina always felt to me like the intended love interests for the Robin's depending on what gender they are, and by extension, what the developers assume the gender of the player is. So if you're a straight guy you marry Lucina, but if you're a straight girl who wants to marry someone like Lucina you marry Chrom. Azura and Shigure in Fates follow a similar path, they both look similar and act similar, And one is voice by Matt Mercer but marrying Shigure always felt weird to me because there is no way in hell that guy is of legal age. Shigure: It's strange... I can't seem to hit the right notes. I used to be able to sing this song perfectly. I remember the lyrics and the melody. How can this be? Azura: That's a part of growing up. Your voice has changed. We used to sing the same... But now that your voice is lower, it isn't possible for you to hit those notes. Shigure: O-oh... That makes sense. Hmm... I guess there's nothing I can really do. It's a little bit bittersweet. kid is still going through puberty yet can still be Kana's father. And this is for the majority of Fates child units, they are significantly more child-coded in design and personality than in Awakening, yet they can all still be married to either each other or to Corrin.
  22. When I was a kid I always wanted to eat these things. My family would make them and have to keep them away from me and the other kids. ...Honestly even though I would probably throw up because it's pure sugar, I still kind of want to eat one. It's dependent on your avatar's gender which you decide before the game starts and before you meet any of the characters. Female Robin can only ever be Lucina's mother or friend, and Male Robin can only ever be Lucina's husband or friend. And I'm pretty sure most players don't pick their avatar's gender based on whether or not they want to either marry or parent a specific character, nor do I think the developers had that thinking when giving the possibility. Ultimately it seems like an observation that is only worth for the single shock line "Oh Robin can be both Lucina's mother and Husband!" because both of those things can only happen in their own timeline separate from each other with different circumstances, and it's only really weird if you use information that is neither relevant nor known about to the characters involved and their timeline. The game clearly doesn't want you to think about it as it's never mentioned or hinted at once and so it's only something that the player can realize by themselves, anyone trying to fetishize it has to try really hard. No one at IS was cackling to themselves about being able to realize their highly specific multiverse information required incest fetish. Compared to the step-family incest in Fates, or hell, the explicit cousin to cousin incest in Awakening, it's nothing.
  23. Catholic Priest That can't be fun. I hope you're doing better now, take care of that thing.
