  1. Up top! Definitely prefer the design over most others because of the focus on raw baddassery which is rare in anime female character designs which usually go for a cutesy look. Luckily thanks to romhacks I've seen some fanmade supports flying around with her and other unfleshed out characters. These are better than the official supports in writing quality, I highly recommend checking 'em out. Such dynamicism and nuance we were never destined to have... Allegra Clark imitating Danny DeVito is the true golden route. Personally I imagined something like a Dimitri transition where she has a scared face, unkempt hair, and the baggiest clothes and armor imaginable. Bonus points if her hair is cut to look boyish. @Saint RubenioSo just in case you needed some inspiration for a sketch... Bespoke: anyone who holds the Ragnell is gay That's good. If you as the player still like Dorothea as a character regardless of what she looks like then it helps conclude her issues. Of course it's still weird to date her since she's your student technically but that's a whole other discussion. I think it's a fitting arc for her. In the base game you can romance her with the knowledge that you'll never actually see her grow old so you don't have to care about her insecurities of not being loved. But with this alternative she can have that assurance within the story which like, never happens with this character trope. Besides, I actively encourage straight men to find the attractiveness in unconventionally attractive women. Most girls I know will go absolutely feral for the wildest looking men while straight guys seem to struggle with anything that isn't an hourglass
  2. I mean if it's not already obvious my favorite female character designs tend to be women who are red and could kick my ass. See Edelgard, Titania, Minerva, Rinkah, Cordelia, and so on... Too true. Still, I appreciate Reina for being the closest we'll get to an unconventionally attractive woman in Fates. Which is ironic considering she's actually pretty similar to Camilla in the bloodthirsty personality department but at least you can imagine she's ripped under the uniform. As an aside I had a thought about this concerning Dorothea the other day and how her whole deal in Three Houses is that she's afraid for being only liked because of superficial reasons and she'll lose companionship with age once she loses her beauty and voice. ...And it's like, in a game with a 5 year timeskip. TH had one hell of an opportunity to follow through on that. Could you imagine a post TS war scarred unconventionally attractive Dorothea who lost both her looks and her voice as fuck you towards any player who only romanced her in the beginning because of those things.
  3. The clothes being draped across thin city streets from high apartments aesthetic is unmatched so I get it. Wait who's Phero- *sigh* Why do all the hot men and women get regulated to unplayable throwaway boss... but seriously, that is an incredible character design, I never noticed till now. Also counterpoint. Walhart marries Priam instead because the homo-erotic tension there is insane. There's no alternative dialogue in Fates at all depending on who Corrin marries I believe, which is strange considering Awakening did that to some degree. I thought at least Azura would have some different dialogue but nope.
  4. Come to think of it, I did play Dream Land all in one sitting at some point but I remember little about it. Hispanic mysterious swordsman, my beloved. Thanks for the write up, I'll keep this in mind. If he is, that makes it all the more fitting. Too bad he failed to use the power of frienship like his grand-pappy did. Also if it's been a thousand years wouldn't that mean like most of Valentia would be distantly descended from him Also what is that Virion support anyhow, I can't seem to find it. Doesn't have to be a direct sequel. It could just be like "Hey it's been 100 years or less since Marth's empire crumbled 5 seconds after he died, let us explain what happened" Or something.
  5. I have a headache And my appetite is wavering The meds are working. Also I got back into Tears of the Kingdom finally. Still pretty early in the game before the first dungeon, got to the Nazca lines. It is so goddamn cool that boss Bokoblins form a regiment of normal Bokoblins like an army and when I jumped out and fired a bomb arrow at them I felt like I just did a political assassination. Exactly. FE doesn't have enough pragmatic villains. Hmm. Well other than Return to Dreamland I've played Adventure and most of Super Star though I definitely preferred fleshed out nature of the abilities in Return to Dreamland.
  6. I also find it interesting that Walhart and Emmeryn were basically after the same thing. An eternal peace and unified people, just that their methods differed and neither succeeded. They even talk a little about that if I recall. Chrom mentions how Walhart is like Emmeryn in that he can rally several people to his cause and inspire fierce loyalty in his subjects. Also side note, it's interesting how Valentia, the continent which 1000 years prior killed their gods and supposedly freed humanity from their control, later has a guy who's whole goal is to kill the gods and achieve true freedom. Part of me wanted to theorize that it says something about Modern Valentian culture being impacted by the historical events of Gaiden within it's people buuuut Valm is also apparently obsessed enough with Tiki as the voice of Naga that trying to unify the continent under her was a plot point, so I doubt that was really intended outside of just referencing Gaiden. Makes me wish Awakening tried to do more worldbuilding off the Archanea games instead of skip a thousand years and not even mention them. If there's ever an Awakening rewritten hack they should do that. Our pharmacy is usually pretty good with supply and is pretty strict with making sure you have the prescription for it, so I'm too worried yet. As to document the affects so far, I don't feel that different but I have felt slightly more productive than usual. At work today I was a lot less exhausted doing the job and felt less of a need to take a break for 30 minutes to scroll on my phone. And in general I feel more energized but I'm not as focused nor motivated to apply that focus onto anything I don't immediately need to do as I'd like to be. This is a classic, and a genuinely beautiful show of solidarity admits the horror that these two peoples were dealing with at the time. Oh I love Kirby's Return to Dreamland! I should play the other kirby games at some point. I used to think I wasn't in to platformers, but lately I think I'm just not into Mario.
  7. Hey. I got a prescription for adderall yesterday and I've taken my first capsule just now This is 6 months in the making of me jumping through medical hoops to get to here, and now I'm finally here Hopefully it will have been worth it. I'm fine with a Greek Tragedy, but in the case of Awakening it's like that tragedy sort of already happened which is the whole point of the plot. If it happened again in the main timeline I feel as though it would've just been unsatisfying. Still, it's good to be conscious of my nostalgia even if I shouldn't care to stop it. I think once I've finished going through every other Fire Emblem I'll return to Awakening in full, that might be fun as a circle back to the beginning. Conquest was my first FE technically but I only ever beat for the first time like a month ago so it doesn't count. For the villains specifically I thought it was a nice way to flesh them out a bit more than they could while they were in the story. Gangrel wanted to be a good king for his people who were suffering because of the previous war and wanted to bring justice, only to fall into madness and hatred. "Even a dog like me knows the pangs of remorse. I laid legions of dead at my feet. But when I climbed that mountain of corpses... I found the vantage empty of any meaning. I failed to change anything." " I was supposed to be the one to... to fix everything... But these hands that I dreamed would shape the future... They reek of blood. And the blood won't come off... My hands were clean once, I swear! ...Weren't they? Or did I just never stop to notice?" And Walhart being a slightly more pragmatic villain, which is rare of fuck for Fire Emblem even though I love them so much. Edelgard is my icon for a reason. "Look at you! Are you not ashamed? Your mind is filled with nothing but secondhand beliefs. You dance upon the stage of your gods like a mindless puppet! THAT is what I reject: being a slave to tradition, to obligation. The old ways. Damn the gods! Damn their fates and their destinies! I will have true freedom! And man who offers less is my enemy." "Think bigger! If we were to succeed, we would eliminate all future wars! What is the sacrifice of even a million people if it builds a golden eternal future? What are they when weighed against peace and safety for future generations to come?" And while we're talking about Walhart I feel like I must bring attention to this one exchange that I just now learned existed. Say'ri: Walhart! Walhart: Hmm? The princess of Chon'sin? It's a wonder you still live. Say'ri: I have survived your gauntlet of betrayal and death, tyrant. Shall I describe to you now the searing pain of it all? The torture of watching friends, family...my entire kingdom perish? The fresh hell of each new day with no respite in sight? Walhart: Pain is a concern of men. And respite? Beg that from your gods. Your concerns are not mine. I have risen to a higher plane of existence. Say'ri: Then today you come crashing down to the hell you've made of this one. Like that goes way too hard for an Awakening quote. Aversa is more of a cheap "Oh I was evil but then I realized I was brainwashed so I'm okay now" and her backstory and motivations come out of nowhere because of that but I do find some of that reflection interesting. "I've just been thinking lately... I really don't have a place in this world. I was played for a fool by my father. Now I fight for my former enemies... I'm a slack-eyed puppet that dances to music everyone but me can hear." And her end card mentions that she basically went back to her home village to try and relive the life that was stolen from her. Ultimately these are sympathetic qualities that really did not need to be given to the villains, especially since I think they work best as pure evil villains, but I still found those reflections compelling. I like Walhart more than most people but yeah I see what you mean. Honestly thinking about it could've been very interesting if Chrom did actually die when he was supposed to but the story continued on anyway with Lucina taking more of a prominent role.
  8. I remember hearing something about a coin shortage that was causing it but I don't live in LA or anywhere close to it to really understand. All I know is that when I was in the airport then it was this odd case where you could pay in cash but only if specific people were running the cash register. I've always looked at Awakening with rose tinted glasses as it was the first Fire Emblem game I properly completed when I was 14 and I haven't really gone through the story in years. The linked run doesn't count since I was skipping cutscenes. While it is true that if I played through the entire story today I would probably recognize it as a whatever story, I can't really think of anything in it that's hugely offensive that would be the cause of people saying outright that it's an awful story. At worst I'd think it'd just be boring and forgettable. ...Which is arguably the worst thing a story can be, so I guess there's that. Fates may be terrible but at least it's entertaining. People talk about the Hierach but that's literally only one chapter and barely relevant to the plot. It was a sloppy lazy way explain why the team was being ambushed, that's pretty much it. And Gangrel is pretty fun. Best attempt at an actually fun pure evil villain from FE if you ask me. Garon being only fun ironically.
  9. Ain't just the prices either. A lot of big airports don't let you use cash to buy food and your bank is going to be very reluctant to allow use of your card if you just came back from a foreign country. Hanneman honestly has some of the best supports in that entire game, I wish he had more of a story presence.
  10. I have a doctors appointment todayyyy, here's hoping to finally make some progress. As someone who was at LAs airport fairly recently, it gets insane, and the prices are even more insane.
  11. There was a little flickering glitch of the screen on the bottom right corner, though I can't tell if that's because this laptop has a significantly less powerful graphics card or for some other reason.
  12. Come all ye, and let me tell you my story of woe... It stared off simple, more than a weak ago my computer laptop's screen flickered in an odd way. Horizontal lines pierced from edge to edge, blinking on and off so quickly it blurred the entire screen. It started off as a mere annoyance, eventually fading once the laptop was left on long enough. But as time progressed, the flickering was more and more persistent. The screen would blur in such a way that it was difficult to discern what you were even looking at. The screen would melt across and sometimes freeze completely, the only thing that seemingly stopped it was by opening up the task manager, but even that soon fell to the flickering. Many ideas came to mind on what it could've been about, perhaps a virus? Yes that was the most obvious conclusion, though my malware detector failed to find anything, I went and uninstalled several apps in hopes that one of them held the putrid virus that plagued my computer so, but none helped. I massacred entire programs yet all were proven innocent, the crime haunts me to this day... It was then that I figured that the real problem had to have been within the laptop itself. A frail thing my laptop was. Powerful though it may have been, it was small and could only handle so much. I thought that perhaps the fabled graphics card within the motherboard was damaged, needing to be brought to a smith to reforge it so it may shine yet again. However opening the laptop cover proved not an easy tasked, for two screws avoided my sight by hiding underneath the rubber stands of the laptop. Not knowing that they were there and also needed unscrewing, I attempted to pry the bottom open, believing that it was stubborn plastic, not steel screws that kept from being opened. I believe it was through this event that I killed my laptop, pains me to say so but it must be the truth. Upon realizing my mistake and opening it properly, I cleaned out any debris I could find, however the permanent scars I gave the copper when trying to pry it open would be the cause for true tragedy. The laptop died then and there, unable to turn on aside from the light that flashed from the power button, as if it's soul was still crying out, begging to be freed. The blood was on my hands, and with it, so too was the fear that I had lost everything. All that was in that laptop that I failed to save to an external drive, wiped from existence. As it turns out, that's not how hard drives work. With hope in my hear, I had brought the corpse of my beloved laptop to the smith, who in turn safely and securely gave me the still functioning hard drive, the essence and soul of my beloved. An older laptop of mine that I never used was still in my possession. It was empty and soulless, a perfect husk for the surviving essence of my dead beloved. Days had passed and I waited anxiously until finally, finally, they had managed to swap the hard drives, and I could live with my saved files once again... ... So yeah that's why I haven't been active much at all lately. I got the fixed laptop literally today and it was great to finally get back to playing Radiant Dawn as I had lost access to it for that entire week. This laptop isn't great but It'll make do until I get a for-real new one later down the line probably next month or so. For now all that matters is that I had all my saved files. Also yes I played the lava chapter of RD, buuut I don't really have any quips or interesting reflections to make other than "The plot thickens" I did nearly get a chunk of my team killed during the map because I forgot it a route map and I sped past to kill the boss instantly, not realizing that it would end the chapter and all my heavily damaged units would now be in danger, but it worked fine in the end with no casualties. ...Also I'm so glad the hot dragon guy with tied hair is back.
  13. Fun fact, I learned recently that Kissinger is canonically a templar in the Assassin's Creed universe apparently, which is fucking hilarious considering the bastard is still alive. I kind of like the drama of them being on opposing sides (Not to mention the Dawn Brigand needs all the help it can get) but also I'd love to see that conversation. Tips would be nice, but part of the fun of Breath of the Wild was not knowing anything going into it, so I'm doing that here too.
  14. I started playing Tears of the Kingdom very recently and while I've purposefully avoided the discussion on it because I don't want to get spoiled and haven't gotten very far, I just need to say this The fucking beginning part where dry Ganon says "And to think Rauru placed his faith in you." Got me wide eyed thinking they were actually about to directly tie the plot with Ocarina of Time somehow. Course it turned out this Rauru was a goat man seemingly unrelated to the sage of light in games past, though light does seem to be a theme in the Zonai civilization. ...Though so far I've only just gotten on the surface and have learned little. Oh Reyson, you've pretty much contributed nothing to the plot so far but I love you so much I don't even care! And better FE protagonist did not live... Nonlethal conquest Micaiah encounters another party with plot armor for the first time in her life.
  15. Considering this guy used the S word early on I'd say it's more of a flip side of the same heart. Shout out to France during the Algerian war of Independence, or I suppose for a much more well known example, the United States in general. ...Basically what I'm saying is that historically "Freedom for all" turns pretty damn quickly to "Freedom for just me" in violent revolutionary uprisings. Oh boy! I hope in the fight against Ike, Micaiah does an attack that Sothe jumps in the way of, killing him and creating extra angst for both Ike and Micaiah but they forget about 10 seconds later and fight anyway. SHEEEEES BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACK!!! Oh...I have to use all of the Dawn Brigand units including the ones I benched? Oh... *Gasp* The tragedy!! Jill on one side of the conflict, her cat girlfriend Lethe on the other. What a beautifully tragic Romeo and Juliet plot line! Wow that's never happened in this game before Pfft This is really the devs screaming at me like "Please god don't let people die because it's going to really suck later on for what we're planning." Is good to ya back "By the will of the Goddess, I bestow upon thee the powers of the Bisexual flag" Thanks, it's called "Parking up in the choke point and wait for the enemy to kill themselves."
  16. Oh finally, he starts asking sensible questions. Again, very familiar. It's actually incredible how this game has managed to get me hooked on the stakes at hand in a way that makes me genuinely tense when news like this comes up. Like Three Houses just never got me at that same level. Imagine having a story where the villains actually get to win over the heroes for a bit and there is a clear struggle for control. Listen, you can only show me the whole "Camus general fights for his country even though he doesn't want to" trope so many times before they just start looking like idiots. Oh hey it's the main character. I'm glad Wormtongue whats-his-face isn't around yet to pry on the insecurities of the king- Aw, fiddlesticks... I've made enough revolution jokes at this point Then again...
  17. That's a funny comparison but not entirely accurate. Edelgard's whole deal is that she's chasing after the church and conservative members of society who want to keep the status quo. Trump is a God fearing American, Edelgard's route ends with her killing god...or at least god's child. And while declaring herself Emperor is a very trump thing to do I'd argue it's also a very authoritarian communist thing to do, like she's their glorious leader and everything. And to discuss stuff that requires some story spoilers, well... Doesn't he still get possessed and thrown away at the end anyways? Correct me if I'm wrong.
  18. Whoops I forgot this one Uhhh, some generic republican law maker probably.
  19. I have no idea who that is but I'll take your word for it I did but I don't remember it as much as Eirika's route. Lyon does do the do on his own free will which is nice but I don't remember everything about it, I don't even recall his motivations for doing it exactly beyond wanting to save his dad. And the comparisons don't end there. For example the characters. Hilda is definitely the stereotypical white Scal girl. She's lazy, is casually racist without knowing it, and has a very narrow view of the world. Raphael being the big beefy guy who eats at American chain restaurants and works out at the gym makes too much sense. Leonie is like your typical goddess fearing country gal. She likes to hunt for sport and is up to her neck in student loan dept, which is very American. Marianne is depressed and living in this country sure is fucking depressing. Lorenz is totally one of those "Trickle down economics is totally real guys" rich people. Claude is a second generation immigrant gay theater kid. Wants to end racial discrimination and everyone thinks he's Latino for some reason Lysithea is one of those poor kids who thinks all they need to do to make it in this country is work hard and be honest but soon finds out the country never accommodated for her autism. Idk what Ignatz is. He's like a femboy or something, the twink to Raphael's twonk.
  20. My gut answer is Iraq and the various wars between the Alliance and Almyra being like the gulf wars. Though that's Leicester not Adrestia. It's hilarious really, it started off as a joke but Edelgard has really grown on me, she's definitely my favorite antagonist of the series so far in that she's like only antagonist who isn't just a generically evil forgettable bad guy. Lyon is close but his whole thing gets overshadowed by the fact that he's possessed by the real big bad. But you know what, fuck it, I'm diving straight in. Is Edelgard really American? She always came across to me like one of those dipshit tankies who calls themselves a Stalinist and unironically thinks there needs to be a violent revolution right now to install a vanguard dictatorship. Personally I feel like the American comparison fits more with the Leicester Alliance, as it's the only country with an elective monarchy and they like to butt heads and be really racist towards their mid-eastern neighbors.
  21. As the resident Edelgard fanatic, I choose not to engage in the Edelgardian discourse. ...For now Yeah I have no idea how I'm gonna do it but I'll bloody well will try.
  22. I decided to start a new file with some changes. Originally I made Poland Adrestia because I liked the idea of going from small Kingdom into big empire but I realized that it might make more thematic sense to make the HRE Adrestia, that way Edelgard has her Empire like she did, and we have direct access to the church authority in the region, like she did. And I guess being the HRE has plenty of useless nobles that Edelgard has to deal with, which is also fitting to her game. I guess I could've started at the earlier date as a Wilhelm Paul Hresvelg to have founded and slowly form the Adrestian Empire but I wanted to get Edelgard as the ruler and getting any female ruler in this game is just as rare as it was in real life, and I'm impatient. So what would be the goal? Well crests aren't a thing in medieval Europe but crests and how they dictate the nobility in the world of Fodlan is remarkably similar to how gender dictated nobility in the real middle ages. It's mostly random, has no impact on one's ability to be a competent leader, and yet every noble family seems obsessed with securing either a crest, or a male heir. So the goal is to make Europe, or at least central Europe, a more gender equal place, and also include some of Edelgard's ideas of class and meritocracy where possible. But how do we do that? IIIIIII...don't know. Well, I have some idea. Essentially male preferences laws are locked to culture and faith and the only way to get rid of those is to become extremely prestigious to reform the culture and extremely pious to reform the religion. Once I achieve those legs I can theoretically create a new sect of Christianity which will accept equal gender rights and upon doing so, declare myself an enemy of the entirety of Catholic Europe. This is where things could get fun and be an exact parallel of Crimson Flower where we chase after the pope while being attacked by his lackeys, and then we annex all of western Europe and force it to accept the new gender equal reform...somehow, I haven't necessarily figured that part out yet but lets be honest, neither did the writers of Crimson Flower. I would like to do all of this within Edelgard's lifespan if possible.
  23. Unfounded slander But actually I kind of regret choosing "Just" because while my interpretation of Edelgard was a pragmatic leader who is willing to do morally dubious things to achieve greater societal justice, CK3's Just trait makes them more into an idealist, shifting them away from the grey area I wanted them to be in, but what can you do. I guess it still fits in that Queen Edelgard can still do personally unjust things while gaining heavy amounts of stress from it, something that arguably happens to her in Three Houses. My current roleplay goal scenario thing I'm thinking is that while crests don't exist in the real world, the next equivalent of crests, gender, do. So the long term goal would be to do what she does in Three Houses, IE conquer and reform the current religious authority to accept a more equal society. Can't exactly create a full blown meritocracy like she wanted to do in her game but gender equality is close enough. The only problem is that I am not at all competent at this game and am currently slogging through tutorial videos. In my defense this is like my first time creating a custom character, and also the third campaign I've ever done after two others that I never finished or got particularly far in. That was a case where I forgot how they displayed names in the game, I renamed it soon after. ...Well I didn't add 'von' to house Hresvelg because that would have the same problem but reversed, so I had to let go of the von part of her name. Shame.
  24. So I got kind of bored and- I completely forgot how to play this game but here's to making a continent wide spanning Empire.
  25. So just today I received a copy of Tears of The Kingdom, a game I have purposefully avoided all kind of conversations on to keep myself blind to it's experience. But who needs genre defining Zelda games when you have old ass strategy RPGs that cost over 100 dollars on amazon, lets keep going. >16 hours into the game >Chapter 4 Near the end of Tsar Nickolas's reign, many army regiments within the Russian Empire mutinied against their commanding officers and created solder cooperates in where soldiers would vote and decide collectively on action as opposed to being told what to do by a superior. ...Just throwing that out there, Zelgius I like how Titania has basically just become the mom of the group I get less and less on board with the animal people race allegory when they start introducing actual animal instincts in said races. See being paid is one thing but I can't see why Shinon couldn't find decent pay in the Begnion Empire fighting against the race of people he hates so much and their supporters. Perhaps deep inside he harbors a heart of gold! ...Or is just too lazy to really think about his personal beliefs I love how coins are literally just worth a single coin, kind of implies our entire gold stock is just these coins See on one hand archers are whatever and this bow is expensive but on the other hand they gave me an entire cutscene about the fact that it exists and gave me the needed funds to buy so I feel like the game really wants me to get it. Oh boy I can't wait to eat some rocks Jesus, I forgot that promotions in this game have the literal cosmic deities come and envelope them This is poetic justice in that Haar achieved this promotion by dodging and then killing a guy with a Wrymslayer Big major complain of Radiant Dawn so far is that Reyson is not in every single cutscene. Hey! Happy Birthday!
