Animations off never feels right for me in any game. I skip or fast forward sometimes, but it never feels right to turn them off entirely EXCEPT to avoid that glitch.

    "that glitch"?

    Now I'm afraid. What glitch?

edit: Also, I'm totally with you on the animations. My wife turns them off, but they add so much flavour to the experience for me!

  2. I had the same problem. In fact, my pro-controller began to fail before my joy-cons, which was very disappointing.

Thankfully I've had success cleaning the joysticks with a q-tip and some isopropyl alcohol. The problem definitely returns after a while, but this seems to work as a short-term fix for me. I find it hard to justify buying replacement controllers, since I imagine the same exact thing will just happen in another year's time...

What really pushed it over Awakening for me was the near-univerally well-written, likable cast of characters and the rewarding gameplay. And the final chapter alone was enough of a satisfying challenge to overcome to make me appreciate the game even more. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!

That sounds fantastic!! I hope to be able to chat with you about it when I've played through it!

Welcome to the Forest! If you're going to play Blazing Blade, some of my favorite characters gameplay-wise are Karel, Louise, Hawkeye, Canas, Hector, Oswin, and Florina. Some great units you get early on, some mid-game, while others are late game pre-promotes.

    Nice to meet you!!

Woah, so many characters. I've got a lot to look forward to! I notice that FE7 is top of your list in your signature. That bodes well for me 😊

  5. Hey everyone!

I'm enjoying my time here at the Forest so far, and look forward to getting to know you all even more!

I was just wondering, does anyone know of a casual hangout/chat thread? I've seen a couple that are hangouts for a specific subject, but I'm curious to see if there is a place for people to gather and chat about anything in a thread. I always enjoy that small sense of community such places can harbor!

I've considered making one of my own at some point, maybe themed after a meeting place or crossroads in a forest. I assume this kinda thing would be posted under Far from the Forest. I'm going to spend some more time in the forums in general before trying to create such a thing, just in case anything already exists, or it clashes with something.

Let me know if you have any recommendations, or if a neutral hangout place is something that appeals to you! 😊

Oh BTW, at one point you should play FE6, it's actually quite hard thought it eases into the lategame, but earlygame FE6 is so thought provoking for that perfect first turn, I think you'll enjoy it!

I’m definitely gonna! All three GBA games are high priority for me

When you say you need to get Conquest, was it because you played someone else's copy of Fates, or you need to download it?

I swear I responded to this earlier! I must not have posted it..

I haven’t played Conquest yet! I’ve been holding out until I pick up a physical copy.

For FE7 please keep Rebecca alive 🙂

Hope you enjoy your stay in the forest!

Rebecca looks like a fun character! I’ll do my best 😉

My FE7 recommendation is to play it twice, since after you finish it the first time, you'll unlock Hector mode. It has some cool and exclusive characters, like Farina! If you like the animations in FE7, FE8 Sacred Stones is also in that style and is a good time.

Anyway, hope you enjoy your time here, we're happy to have you 🙂

Thanks for the recommendation! I’m so excited to finally be able to play this game. I hope it arrives soon!

It’s lovely to meet you 🙂

Welcome to Airport 1001. Please remember to wake that slugabed up.

How many FE games have you played?

    Hi!

I've played Awakening, Fates (Birthright. Need to get my hands on Conquest), Echoes and Three Houses. I've played a bit of Sacred Stones on 3DS, but I'd like to play it physically.

I'm looking forward to playing some of the older games!

Also, thanks for teaching me a new word. Slugabed!

Hey, welcome to the forest. It's good to see another literature enthusiant, illustrator, and Mila fan here.

That is quite a lot we have in common - I hope to see you around the forums!

Please, for the love of everything, turn off the animations in Shadow Dragon, once you get around to playing it.

Anyway, welcome~!  Don't forget to read the rules and all!  The Edit button is your friend, and that little plus sign next to Quote enables Multiquote, so you can quote multiple people at once.

    (end generic greeting)

Thanks for the multiquote tip. I was wondering about that!

And thanks for the Shadow Dragon tip. It's definitely on the list of games I'd like to play this year!

  12. I have a couple of good (terrible) moments from when I first played Pokemon Crystal as a kid.

    - I didn't know shiny Pokemon were a thing. I encountered a shiny Butterfree and casually knocked it out, not realising I wouldn't encounter a shiny Pokemon again for 20 years.

    - Threw a master ball at a Kangaskhan, which I proceeded to never use. When my friends asked me why I wasted it, I told them my dad did it...

Fast forward a number of years and my little brother (ten years younger than I) was playing Pokemon X. He encountered a shiny Basculin, panicked and handed me the 3DS so I could catch it for him. This was my chance to be a cool big brother! ...And I knocked it out in one hit. "You'll probably never see another shiny pokemon..." I told him.

The very next day he encountered another shiny pokemon.

Can you find me a girl like your wife?

    Joking aside, welcome!

Haha!! I wouldn't even know how! I'm only where I am now due to absolute dumb luck 😛

Thanks for the welcome! Nice to meet you 🙂

  14. I was a Gaian for YEARS! I was very proud of my 13000+ posts (even today, 14 years after making my account, that averages at 2 and a half posts per day haha!)

I have such fond memories. I made friends in a thread called Gin's Spoony Day, which was a quest thread as well as being a chronic illness awareness thread. I imagine a large majority of my posts were made here!! It was wonderful to have an online space with a small community of friends around the world. I loved it so much, I even remember loading it up on the internet browser on my Nintendo Wii so I could make posts from my bedroom!

I've tried returning to Gaia a number of times in recent years. I tried reviving my own quest thread, and reconnected with a good friend from the Netherlands, but it has never come close to capturing that precious sense of community I had once found there. Without the people I had met in Spoony Day, my life genuinely would have taken a very different route.

Anyway, I'm glad to hear you're enjoying Gaia online!! I'm not sure if the items I own hold much wealth anymore, but maybe I can help you with some of your wishlist items!

  15. I wasn't going to reply to this thread, but then I saw that the OP is from my home country, Wales, and it brought such a smile to my face!

I'm from North Wales, and I now live in the US (she's American and one of us had to move to make it work). I don't think I realised how much "home" meant to me until I left, and so now whenever I meet anyone who is from Wales I feel instantly delighted!

Also of note: Lyn hard is basically Lyn normal, Eliwood hard is a little harder than Eliwood normal, Hector normal is a little harder than Eliwood normal, Hector Hard mode is much harder than anything else the game has to offer, as I found out the hard way. Regardless, have fun!

That is very useful information! I definitely enjoy a little more challenge in my Fire Emblem games (though I've not braved lunatic levels!) so this is great to know!

Welcome to the Forest, Tylwyth Teg!

Glad that you're enjoying the series. I second Benice and would recommend you to watch out for Canas but you're free to play however you feel like!

Anyway, have a nice day and enjoy your stay!

Canas has an amazing monocle, so he'll definitely be on my radar 😛

    Great to meet you!

  18. Thank you Benice! It's nice to meet you!

And thank you for the suggestions! I look forward to getting to know these characters. And I'm sure that, before long, I'll know exactly what Hector mode is 😛 It's cool to know that this game will offer reasons for multiple playthroughs

  19. Hi everyone! Nice to meet you all.

I'm very excited to become a part of this wonderful Fire Emblem community! I've spent the past week or so slowly exploring your forums, and they seem like such a wholesome and united place to be. I've long been searching for a corner of the internet to call home, and I'm hopeful that such a great community as yours will be the place!

I'm 28, and originally from Wales. I now live with my wife in the US. I'm an illustrator and, when the world isn't in lockdown, I work at a bookshop. I would love to be a librarian, and illustrate alongside that!

My Fire Emblem history began with Awakening. I had very little knowledge of the series before then, but I bought the game upon release and immediately fell in love. My wife, who was not a gamer in the past, has recently become VERY into Fire Emblem and I feel my enthusiasm growing once more.

I've just ordered myself a copy of FE7, and I'm really looking forward to delving into the series's history. I'm already infatuated with the sprite animations for the battles. Any recommendations for favourite characters in that game that I should keep an eye out for?
