  1. Hi, everyone. I've been playing my Thracia game off and on for over two years now. I've been sitting on chapter 18 for about a month and decided to do it today. I took some screencaps I wanted to share since it is a pretty daunting chapter. I was indeed able to recruit Xavier and get the member card.

    My team:

(Left side) Leif, Asbel, Hicks, Karin, Salem, Lara, Safie, and Marty
(Right side) Lithis, Fergus, Sarah, Dean, Tina, Osian, Dagdar, and Miranda

Marty (promoted) was my tank to hold off the generals while the civilians came to talk. I used Hicks, Salem, Dagdar, and Dean to hold down the stairs (I initially was bringing Dagdar to give Marty a boost, but decided early in the fight that it wasn't going to be necessary). I used Tina to steal the parchment, body ring, luck ring, and the four weapons belonging to the four Friege knights in the center. I made sure to capture and release each of the 16 Leonster soldiers (I got the member card, but it was too quick for me to get the screencap) as I went. I used Lithis and Fergus to lure the four Leonster soldiers in the middle to the east side (semi successfully). My plan was initially to have Marty hang out just outside the northwestern door and bring the generals out, but during that initial turn everyone, including the weaponless Friege units, moved to the west wall. I decided therefore to bring down Asbel to kill all the Friege units from over the wall (so maybe I didn't need to steal their weapons, but I wasn't turning back), and then I had the idea to see if the Leonster generals would follow me down the outside corridor to meet the civilians. It ended up working, but it took a long time to get it to work properly since they clogged up the area pretty good. By the way, one of the Leonster soldiers inside with the javelin did try to kill the civilians when they got next to the wall (contrary to what I've read online), and Xavier also tried to shoot his bow into a civilian when I accidentally triggered him to come down early, so watch out for that (some online say he won't do that). Overall I didn't need to bring anyone in to distract Xavier since he didn't move until I stepped into his danger zone. I took care of everything on the west side, and then brought in Lithis to steal the final boss's gear before Asbel minced him.

I still have the save if anyone wants to know more about unit growth or gear.

If by boxes, you mean packs containing multiple DLC content, you can buy them after chapter 6 at the Dragon's Gate in Fates.

Personally, I wouldn't buy the DLC's because if you mod your 3ds with CIA, you can just download the DLCs for free (roms too if you don't have them) and play them with the physical cartridge. I can't give you any links because its against the forum's TOS it's pretty easy to find online.

I'm not interested in that. I only buy stuff legitimately, and I want to buy everything. Thanks for the advice though. At this point I'm just curious about the bonus box stuff in Awakening, whether I'll be able to get it after the eShop closes. It seems to be unrelated to the shop, so perhaps it won't go anywhere. To be clear, the bonus box is not the same thing as purchasing DLC bundles. It's free characters and items through the spotpass.

  3. Hi, have been taking a break from Fire Emblem things but got the bug to come back recently (started doing them in order a few years ago, but only halfway through 5 at the moment). I own physical copies of all of the 3DS games, but I want to make sure I get all of the DLC before they close the eShop. Can folks who know please confirm some of the following so that I can make sure I don't miss anything?

Fire Emblem Awakening: I read that I can purchase DLC after chapter 4 (although I saw one web site say chapter 5). I am working through these opening chapters now and skipping cutscenes, since I don't want to experience the story yet. I also see, however, after chapter 3 that there is this bonus box where I can download characters and items? I don't really want to get too deeply into this right now, since I'm not planning to play this for a while, but are these things we think will go away? Should I start a serious file and grab it all?

Fire Emblem Fates Conquest: I understand that I can buy birthright and revelations without playing, but I read that there is additional DLC after chapter 6? The same questions as above as far as bonus box (if any).

Fire Emblem Echoes: I have actually already played this game and bought all the DLC, but perhaps as a reference to anyone coming here with a similar question so they don't have to open a new thread.

    Thanks!

  4. Hi! I've been playing the Lil Manster translation, and am loving it so far. I'm at the beginning of Chapter 4.

Out of curiosity, I recently got a Japanese 3DS, and I noticed that there is a big community for making English patches for Japanese games on the 3DS. I saw that they have Thracia in the virtual console on the Japanese eshop, so I can buy the game legitimately. Has anyone considered putting the Lil Manster translation in a CIA somehow to be patched onto the 3DS virtual console version? I am kind of a novice, so I don't know how it works, but I have successfully applied some English patches to other games (like Great Ace Attorney).

Sorry if this is discussed elsewhere, I did a search but didn't find anything.

Thank you to all who worked on this translation and project!

Yes, they stack. Combat boosts stack, it's the buffs that last throughout a turn and show up on the stat screen that don't stack. (Ex. Hone, Wave, Rally)

    Everything stacks except:

    • Anything that specifically says it doesn't stack
    • Persistent status effects of the same type (anything that shows up as an icon on the unit's map sprite)
      • Field buffs and field debuffs will only use the highest value with each stat calculated individually. You can tap a stat on the top banner to see all field modifications to it.
      • Field buffs are separate from field debuffs and therefore do stack with each other, even if the field buffs are reversed due to Panic.
    • Triangle Adept-like skills
      • If two units have a Triangle Adept effect, only the larger of the two will take effect.

    Thank you both!

I would use her as an enemy phase unit to tank mages and dragons. You can technically salvage her physical bulk and jack up her Def, but similar to Altena, she got teammates to take care of units that she has trouble dealing with, so I would not bother. You can use her as a dual phase unit with Divine Naga to patch up her Spd; she still would not be able to go toe to toe with super fast enemies on the enemies' prefered combat phase, but she should be able to outspeed some of them on the phase that they are vulnerable in. For example, instead of having Julia initiate on Ronan, you can have Ronan initiate on Julia instead.

2 hours ago, Ice Dragon said:

Julia is slow, meaning she absolutely needs Quick Riposte to function on enemy phase. Her Def is also pretty awful, meaning she won't be able to deal with physical opponents that can double her on her enemy phase, unlike Sety, who can at least avoid the follow-up due to having a massive 20 points more Spd.

Thank you both! This is very helpful.

lease use this pinned thread at the very top of the forums in the future for questions.

Team composition is dependent on the mode and your playstyle preferences, and generally speaking, I strongly discourage mixing player phase and enemy phase units together.

For Aether Raids, the most competitive PvP mode, restarting is not an option, so you need a team composition that will give you consistent victory with ideally little to no unit losses depending on how high you want to rank. Player phase strategies rely heavily on nukes and Dancers/Singers, while enemy phase strategies rely heavily on tanks, buffers/debuffers, and healers. Due to limited team slots, it simply is not possible to fit both play styles into one team without severely reducing the team's effectiveness on both fronts. It is best to craft and focus your team around either player phase or enemy phase tactics, and then incorporate elements of the other playstyle via dual phase units.

For PvE modes, you can keep restarting forever, so consistency in winning is not an issue, and you can you use any type of team you want. However, if you want to complete Abyssal maps in a short amount of time, it is still best to follow the general team composition guidelines for PvP modes.

Since you are limiting yourself to gen II, I would run a team that consists primarily of dual phase and/or enemy phase units, so I generally would not run player phase units like Ced since there simply is not enough Dancers/Singers to run an effective player phase team. However, since he is the only green unit you have, it is better than nothing. If you get Julia in the future, I use her instead since she is a much better enemy phase unit if you plan to give her Flowers and Resplendent stat, and she can somewhat dual phase with Divine Naga.

I have a few follow up questions, if you don't mind answering.

    1. I totally forgot that Julia is available as a Resplendant Hero. I was taking a break when they added her. If I was to nab her now, would you give her a similar build to what you are doing with Ced here?
    2. A lot of people in my original thread were suggesting Ares, who I can +10, so I started building him too, but since I still don't have a good grasp on the different skills that work for different phase types, would you mind discussing how he would work? It seems like he can be a good enemy phase unit, but I'm not sure. I basically gave him the Distant Vantage build from game8.
    3. Are there any good alternatives to Spurn for Larcei? It looks like it only comes from the Kris units, and I have one female, but I don't want to lose her.
    4. You mentioned synergy, but I don't understand what you mean by Candy Cane and Sturdy Stance both having "Guard." I didn't see that word in either description. I don't really know how to tell what stacks and what doesn't. I've seen builds described that list Savage Blow both as C skill and seal on that site. Are those stacking?

    Thank you for your time!

Thank you for the thoughtful post! I started putting some skills on my units last night, but I am looking forward to going through your notes here and adding them to my spreadsheet! It looks like I have a lot to learn.

It's possible to access the online shop and other online functionalities if you use a custom WFC. I recommend Kaeru WFC. After you successfully connect it, you can download the DLCs.

So I was able to put my ROM on a flash cart and connect to wireless using this method. I was able to select "Shop Online" and connect to the shop to purchase items for units, like in the Shadow Dragon, but when I tried to select "Download," which is where I assume one gets the bonus content maps, it gives me error code 31020 "Download failed." I did some searching online, and this seems to be a error that a lot of people get for several games. I see that Kaeru has a Discord server, so I might go in there and ask. I'm guessing there is just nothing to download from the replacement server, so of course it says download failed.

Just +10 Ares not too long ago and I absolutely adore him as a character and a unit. I definitely recommend him on a team.

For your green slot, Ced or Lewyn make a good option.

Erinys or Altenna for your blue option.

For your last slot, have Lene or Nanna, depending on whether your favor dancing or healing. Or you could interchange them depending on the level. There's definitely levels where it's much more efficient to use a dancer and other levels where the healing is much needed.

Thank you for the advice! I love Lewyn and especially Erinys, but I think I'm just going to do second generation for this team, and they are the old folks!

  11. 2 minutes ago, Fabulously Olivier said:

It does, and that's worth considering, but it does come at the cost of any bulk or damage you could gain from a stance/solo/brazen seal. As a high investment, you'd also benefit more from Guard Bearing B/QR Seal than you would from QR B/Iote's Seal.

    Thank you!

  12. 3 minutes ago, Fabulously Olivier said:

Altena would do just fine with a standard enemy phase flier melee tank. She lacks the mixed bulk to make great use of DC, and she's weak to arrows anyway. Any Stance 4 skill (Bracing or Sturdy preferred), Quick Riposte/Guard Bearing, Flexible C, Quick Riposte/Stance seal would work for her.

Doesn't using Iote's Shield nullify the arrow weakness? Perhaps I don't understand it well.

  13. Hi everyone.

I'm relatively new, and I've only played the game off and on since it was released, so I have some decent units, but haven't gone in depth with many of them. I noticed a lot of people here make themed teams, which I think is really cool, and I wanted to do something similar. I just finished Holy War a couple of days ago, so I'm feeling slightly obsessed with it (going through the novelization now). I thought it would be fun to put together a team of second generation Holy War kids.

I'm looking for advice and feedback, since it seems like there are some very experienced players here. Here is what I think I want to go with, trying to go for balance:

    image.png.8fd9f41cc05a008a0d5fb8a5c3565bf5.png

Here you can see all of the units I have from Holy War, and I will also show here my combat manuals, for reference:

    image.png.8b70c16ff11f226772357caad080ba6e.png

So, as you can see, the other options would be Lene, Julia (Legendary or Fallen), Leif (Legendary), Ares, and Seliph. There is also Julius in the Heroic Grails section. The reason I went with the four I did was partially based on (1) I like those characters the most, (2) I wanted to try to use "normal" units without relying on legendary or fallen, and (3) balanced party composition (movement, weapon type, and color). With the exception of Larcei, I think I could easily +10 all four of them (maybe Seliph would be a substitute if I want to +10 all four units).

I guess the first question is, would you select a different party comp based on what I have available, and why?

Second question is, if I stick with these four, what recommendations do you have for builds? I've mostly been relying on game8.co for guides on how I should build my characters, but I want to really get things nailed down before I start using and farming resources. For Larcei, there is a Galeforce build. I'm not super experienced, but I know a lot of people use Galeforce and that it is strong. It looks like I can get it by promoting Cordelia to 5*? That build also suggests Fury 4 and Atk/Spd Oath 3, but I'm not sure I can get them, since I'm not necessarily willing to sacrifice my Fallen Ike.

For Ced they have a spiral build, but again I'd have to sacrifice a couple of my 5* units, which I am hesitant to do. Perhaps I shouldn't be? I'd have to sacrifice my Keaton (or Lewyn) for Special Spiral 3, and Edelgard for Rouse Atk/Def 3. I don't use either of them too much, and I have Legendary Edelgard already.

For Altena there is a DC Shield build, so I suppose she would be my tank. I'd have to sacrifice my Hector for Distant Counter, which is fine (I never use that unit because I have his Brave version). For Quick Riposte 3 I have a 3* Subaki that I can promote, and I can get Atk Smoke 3 from Kaze.

Last would be Nanna. I was debating whether I wanted to have a healer or a dancer in the last slot (Lene would be the dancer). If I go with Nanna, which I assume would be more fun and challenging, there is a Savage Wrath build. I would have to sacrifice my Hinoka for Atk/Spd Bond 3 and Genny for Wrathful Staff 3. Savage Blow 3 should be easy since I have so many Bantu manuals.

I guess that is it. Any flaws in my logic? It will take a lot of effort to make this team, so I would appreciate feedback from anyone who is willing. Thank you!

Armors have recently-introduced C Skills called "Near Save" and "Far Save", which let them enter combat in place of a nearby ally targetted by an enemy -- Near for melee enemies, Far for ranged enemies.

It refers to the relatively recently introduced line of Armor exclusive C-skills that allow them to enter combat in the place of an ally within two spaces, meaning there is actually a huge area around them where your attacking options are severely limited. It appears on the Lance Armor in this map, and can be incredibly annoying to face.

Thank you very much! I was quite confused. Yes, I do remember seeing that recently.

Also, thank you for the welcome, Jerk!

@Matrograde Nice clear. I tried to use Shamir myself, but ran into a bunch of problems and dropped that idea. Looks like you figured it out.

Thank you so much! Also, I love your video, how you introduced the characters. Sometimes I switch over to Japanese, but my reading comprehension is just not there yet, so I have to switch back most of the time.

Is it ok if I follow you? I'm not sure what the protocol is on these forums yet. 🙂

I cleared it with Gustav: Majestic Love, Henriette: Overflowing Love, and double Flayns. Took me like one try. I could have just spammed end turn too, but I wanted to speed up the battle a bit so I had my units attack on player phase.

I also cleared it with ITM!Lyn and three Dancers/Singers. Had to restart a few times, but it did not take too long to figure out. Have not used her Duo skill either.

Oh, I just have to put End Turn for myself, because I have the options set to not end automatically if there is still a Duo/Harmony skill unused. Not sure if that was in response to me.

  17. Hi! I've never done this before, so sorry if I'm stepping on someone's toes. I was able to clear the Abyssal of this new fight this morning, and wanted to show off.
